Turns out, backdoor service means they'll pick up your trash only from a spot they like and only if there isn't a speck of a snowflake on the ground). Wish we never switched from curbside service.

Choice also only picks up recycling every other week, and GFL picks up weekly. So despite receiving poor service from GFL in the past, I switched back. Issue #1 - They said they would begin at the start of the new quarter - July 1st. The bins arrived the last week in June, and the trash bin was placed at the end of the drive at night on July 6th for collection on the 7th. They did not pick up. A call to GFL on the 8th provided me with the answer: My service was not set to start until the week of July 13th. I'll let you think about that and decide if it makes sense to you. It did not then and still does not to me. Issue #2 - Bins were taken to the street the night of the 13th for collection the next day. That evening, I went to collect the bin, and it was full. I called GFL on the 15th and was told there are no route notes and that they would have the truck pick up "sometime later" that week. I put the recycling out on the 16th and the regular bin on the opposite side of the drive. Both were picked up. Issue #3 - Trash bin was put out on the night of the 20th and not picked up by 4:30 pm on the 21st. There had been storms that day, so I called GFL. I was told the truck did have delays that day, but they do pick up until 7pm. I left the bin out all evening. It was not picked up. I called GFL on the 22nd, and it was picked up for recycling on the 24th. Issue #4 - I put the trash bin out the night of the 27th--no pickup on the 28th. I called today to cancel the service after returning to Choice. I was told that my service was changed last week from the Tuesday trash/Thursday recycling pickup schedule to BOTH on Thursday now. I had not been notified. GFL has one of the worst communication systems of any business I have ever come across. I did not bother asking for a refund. I did not want to waste another moment on that company. And I don't want you to, either.

My wife came home to find a crew of 3 not even looking at the damaged area, but going through my friends personal belongings in other rooms. Missing after they left was a wallet with credit cards and over $200 in loose change. I helped my neighbor often with his personal affairs and placed these items in a secured room. These 3 came out of that room and was nowhere near the space that needed cleaning. I'd call cops or press charges, but it isn't my space and his brother is too distraught to focus on it. It's a shame that a company such as this can't have any ethics when it comes to treating the deceased and their family with dignity and respect. Stay FAR away from these thieves!
