Obviously there had been animals that stayed in our room at one point. As you see pictured there's mold the first room they gave us. The toilet was so disgusting. I didn't take a picture, but you can trust me with that. About 4 o'clock in the morning the smoke detector battery decided to start chirping. The breakfast was really bad. my husband was excited he thought well maybe? I told him I wouldn't even try it, but he did. It was supposed to be biscuits and gravy. It was biscuits and water. The bagels were decent. Everything was very sparse so they must've counted how many people were in the place and did one bagel per person and one piece of fruit per person so somethings were sparse at 6:30. The coffee was OK thank God! I feel bad for my husband because he did not get good rest and it's a long drive home. We have about almost 4 hours ahead of us. I'm thinking we might pull over at a rest stop or something and take a nap because we both slept horribly. When hotels except animals they should definitely leave those rooms for animal people and for the rest of us, let us have rooms without the dander. Neither one of us are allergic, and we actually have our own animals, but when they don't clean like they should and believe me that they don't clean like they should! It's unfortunate because we have stayed at a Wyndham before and this is nothing like it! The people that work for the hotel are very nice, but you can tell they get a lot of complaints and they don't know what to do with them. I think I'd rather sleep in my car than spend one night in their hotel! I wore shoes when I walked around the room that's how bad it was. But after we went and got dinner and got back, it was so late and my husband was so exhausted from his medical appointments. Anyway, just wanted to pass this along so no one else has to deal with this

I ended up with this property which was cool because it was right next to my dinner restaurant so I just walked over for dinner and a cocktail. The hotel has a sun room with a pool and ice Machine on each floor. Since I randomly pick a town the hotel is in and I don't know the crime rate of any given hotel area I ask for the highest floor. My room seemed clean and no bed bugs with a little ware on the room but I expect that. The bathroom was clean as were the fridge and microwave. Either this is a very insulated hotel or no one was around me because I never heard another human while I was there, the quietest stay I can ever remember.

It's a simple little motel, but it's very clean and the rates are incredibly reasonable for the facilities and the location. It has wi-fi and a decent cable TV selection. Downside = the mattresses have some sort of plastic protector that crunches and such when you roll over (or really just move) on the bed. And the decor is early 70s chic with thin doors both inside and outside facing. That being said, it's a cozy little place and nicer than one might even expect for a town the size of Iola. While the decor is dated, the rooms are comfortable and the welcome is warm.

The generic chain hotels didn't appeal to me, so I looked to Airbnb for something better. Enter Walker House. From the beginning, my communication with the owner Mike was prompt, courteous, and professional. When I arrived, he was there to greet me, and my private room was cozy, clean, and included some refreshments -- a welcome creature comfort after the 10 hour drive! I shared a bathroom, but it was clean, spacious, and had more than enough clean white towels for myself and the other guests utilizing it. Not to be outdone, Sue made a delicious breakfast in the morning. I enjoyed fresh fruit salad, eggs Benedict, and homemade blueberry muffins. I was super stuffed by the end, but didn't mind a bit! The cherry on top was when I had to leave early to drive home (to the tune of 5 AM). Mike woke up and made me a to-go cup of coffee for the road. I told all the wedding guests about my awesome accommodations and got more than a few envious comments :-) If you're in the area and need a place to stay, look no further than Walker House!

This was by far the most amazing experience and look forward to returning. Check in: Was an absolute breeze. Our flight was delayed and were able to easily access the location through self check in. Room: The room was immaculate. Spacious, clean and comfortable. Had all the necessary amenities. The bed and pillows were incredibly comfortable. Owner: Was attentive and readily available to answers questions and fulfill all accommodations. Area: Perfect location that is close to the town and convenient stores. I stayed in most of the rooms during my time there and all the beds are comfortable. There are iPhone chargers in all the rooms, and there was complimentary WiFi, which allowed for both the ability to work after hours and to surf the Internet when relaxing. There was also plenty of privacy, but at the same time Kerri and Mike, the innkeepers, made me feel at home. Early each morning there was coffee and Kerri always made sure I had a travel mug to take into work. Additionally, Kerri was nice enough to offer me dinner several times during the long bleak winter. I stayed at one of the newer hotels in Waupaca during my first trip, and while I had no big complaints, it was just average across the board, while the Apple Tree Bed & Breakfast had those extra touches of home all in a ultra comfortable peaceful and private space. Thanks Kerri and Mike for making the winter bearable!
