I stumbled across it today while out driving around and waiting for an event I was attending. The mansion is a historic mansion that was inspired by the Governor's Mansion in Williamsburg, VA. It has multiple options for several events and has been updated by Hamilton County Parks. From the looks of things, those updates continue to be implemented. As a historic mansion, accessibility isn't perfect. Things have been made as accessible as possible - Hamilton County, in general, tries to do that. Event space on the main floor has space for 80 people for a sit-down event. If the patio is included, you could have 100 sit-down or 120 standing. There's also a third-floor music room that has space for 40 sit-down. If you need a larger space, Coxhall Gardens has several other options including an amphitheatre. It's super weird to think that this was a home. The land started with the John Williams family (No, not the Star Wars composer). They were early Hamilton County settlers and moved here in 1855. 10 years later, they built the Victorian home that still stands. Bricks were even made on-site. In 1958, a 40-year-old Jesse Cox and his wife would make a bid on the property - it was initially denied, however, a year later the property was still for sale. Finally, they were able to acquire it. In 1999, they donated it to Hamilton County Parks. Due to its historic nature, the mansion is often viewed separately from the rest of the gardens. This entire complex is pretty mesmerizing, however, Carmel has a long history of weaving together luxury, history, and practicality and this mansion is a great example.

The BMW Championship was well executed despite the wacky weather that week. I was able to park in a field a few miles away and ride a shuttle to the course and quickly caught one back when I was ready to leave. The course was breathtaking in the crisp white and black BMW colors, but what else do you expect when BMW is the title sponsor? Crossing my fingers the tournament returns in 2020 so we can experience it again.

Fortunately, they have a prestigious caddie program that offers members a chance to play quickly, and vast community involvement for kids to learn lifelong skills. The members are overall very inviting, and the staff is very helpful - not only in the pro shop, but in the whole (beautiful) clubhouse itself. If you have any chance to play, I highly recommend!

My interest was piqued and I set off to check it out. Turns out, my good Yelp buddy Richard P. has already visited this labyrinth and wrote a way better review of it than this one I'm writing right now. So read his review. Then, go and visit this labyrinth. You'll find it easily when you enter the church parking lot -- just follow the signs for "Children's Circle." I'll have to come back with my children, because I think they'd have fun walking on the labyrinth and getting to the center. It's a nice little spot with some boulders to climb on, and some benches to sit on, if you wish. It's located right off the church parking lot, but tucked into a little nook with trees, so it's definitely a place where you could find peace and quiet. It's really neat that there's a free place in Indy where you can mediate while walking on a labyrinth, and find a little time to yourself outdoors.

A relatively new labyrinth, this labyrinth was developed in 2013 as part of the over 180-year-old church's 175th anniversary celebration. This is an outdoor labyrinth built in concrete within one of Second Church's grassy areas. It's publicly accessible and other than during events held at the labyrinth is open for use. Rev. Gracie Payne, a former Lake Fellow at the church and now Director of Young Adults, led the development of a prayer guide for the labyrinth that is available on the church's website. The outdoor labyrinth is designed in the classic tradition similar to that of the one at Chartres Cathedral in France. While it's just a touch too narrow for full-on wheelchair use, the labyrinth is easily wheelchair accessible with a pathway that is smooth. I've had no difficulty following the labyrinth's paths - I simply go a bit outside the lines (which pretty much sums up my life anyway). This labyrinth is in an inspired location. It's easily accessible within the city, there's plenty of parking, it's a generally safe area (in fact, I often see police cars in the parking lot), and yet it's a fairly wooded lot offering a peaceful place for prayer and meditation. Second Church does periodically hold labyrinth-based events and the website is a great place to look for those. Currently, they are asking labyrinth users to wear a mask if 2 or more are using the labyrinth. There's also a bench where you can sit and reflect here, as well. Otherwise, this is a simple yet beautiful labyrinth and definitely one of my favorites.

The suites were very clean, large and well appointed with full sized fridge, toaster oven, microwave and kitchen. Popcorn and dish soap on hand for you, too. Housekeeping comes quickly (tip them, of course) and does a good job. Plenty of storage, a laundry hamper, ironing board, etc., two TVs, decent lighting and seating throughout. It was quiet and the bed was comfortable. The shower was adequate, the toiletries were fine and the vanity lighting was sufficient; air flow was such that the shower did not steam up the mirror and a fan turned on along with the light in the bath/WC area. There was a lovely patio out back with lots of comfy seating. The breakfast was pretty terrific in a comfy area (ice and drinks available 24/7) and all the staffers we encountered were helpful and friendly. The hallways and elevators were a little shabby, but other common areas were great. I looked but did not find a safe for valuables. After our first night, we returned from breakfast to find our rooms were being serviced by housekeeping; unlike the situation in other hotels, the housekeeper did not confirm our identity or block us from simply walking into the room. We discovered another person - a 9-year-old child - quietly relaxing on the sofa while she worked. It turned out to be no problem in our situation, but the lack of a safe and these security issues would give me real concern had we kept valuables, confidential materials or anything dangerous in our room. As it was, I kept the "no housekeeping" magnet on the doorframe after our second night. With that exception, it was pretty perfect for what we wanted. Not upscale in any way, but with everything you needed.

I stayed at the Drury Plaza Hotel Indianapolis Carmel on Saturday, January 31, 2026, while…read moretraveling from Tennessee to Wisconsin. I arrived around 7:00 PM and checked into Room 707 (1 King bed). After a full day of travel, I specifically chose Drury because I expected a safe, clean, and reliable place to rest. I parked, brought my luggage in, and went straight to the room planning to shower, take my medication, and go to sleep since I still had another four hours of driving the next day. When I pulled back the sheets, the bed was covered in pubic hair. This was absolutely disgusting and unacceptable. I immediately called guest services to report it. I was exhausted and did not want to move rooms, so I informed them I would sleep in the chair instead. For a hotel charging $178.00 per night, this should never happen. Someone clearly did not clean the room or change the sheets. It also makes me question how often this happens if guests don't inspect the bedding before getting in. Cleanliness is the bare minimum expectation, especially at this price point. I was truly disappointed and believe I should be fully refunded for this stay. Drury needs to do better.
