Bedbugs If I could give zero, I would I am writing this review with absolute disgust and disbelief after our recent stay at [courtyard ]. What was supposed to be a standard stay turned into a living nightmare due to a severe bed bug infestation and a complete breakdown of basic hotel management and customer service. We discovered bed bugs in our room. When we immediately contacted the front desk (around 1 AM), the nightmare really began. It took an unacceptable 27 minutes for a staff member to even show up to speak with us. To make matters worse, they refused to come up to the room to inspect the bugs and shockingly declined to even view the video evidence we had clearly captured. Their apathy was staggering. We were finally moved to a new room on the opposite side of the hotel at 7 AM. After almost no sleep, we were then woken up shortly after by loud, pervasive construction noise directly outside our new room. When I went to the front desk to complain, the manager was incredibly rude and, in a breathtaking display of dishonesty, completely denied that any construction work was happening at the hotel. Furthermore, we were unable to use the pool or gym during our entire stay as they were closed or unavailable, a detail not disclosed to us beforehand. As we were attempting to check out and leave, our exit was physically blocked. The construction crew was using the only functional exit door, making it impossible for us to leave with our luggage for some time. This is not only unacceptable service but a major safety hazard. The manager has refused to refund us for the night we spent with the bed bugs. We are longtime guests who have stayed here twice a year for years. This experience was not just "bad service"; it was a total failure. This hotel is garbage, the staff is unprofessional and rude, and the management is dishonest. We will NEVER stay at this property again and strongly advise every traveler to steer clear for their own health and safety. I was in town visiting some North Jersey friends, and I selected the Marriott Mahwah this time around. Plenty of parking without a fee. The elevator situation in this hotel is bizarre. Rather than being right off the lobby, you're forced to walk around the bend and down the hallway past the guest rooms. Signage was non-existent. My room was clean, but the bed was the most uncomfortable I've ever experienced in a hotel. The shower left a lot to be desired. The shower lever could barely be lifted, so the majority of the water was flowing out of the bottom spout. Abysmal water pressure. Had I washed my hair, I would still be there, trying to rinse out the shampoo. Pretty limited room amenities, and no hairdryer. Hence, another positive for not having washed my hair! I was happy to be right on Route 17 for ease of getting to dinner with my girls, but this hotel was a one and done for me! read more

Comfy rooms, great service, cozy environment. Loved the fire pit! The breakfast was a bit expensive but surprisingly delicious, we had the breakfast flatbread and burrito. We also had a few drinks during the night. The Black Cherry Old Fashioned was decent but they were out of cherries, which was a shame. Our only gripe with the room was that the pull-out couch bed was very uncomfortable and we had to make the bed ourself, it was just a mattress. We will likely stay here again next time we go to the New York Renaissance Faire, as it's close and affordable with no big flaws! read more

I reserved 2 rooms for a wedding. I called the hotel and added another family member to one of the rooms and gave permission for him to check into the room. I called the day of the wedding to confirm and was told no problem his name is on the reservation. When he got there the front desk said that his name was NOT on the reservation and would not let him check in. I called the hotel and the woman I spoke to was very rude. Eventually they let him check in before I arrived but it was a mess and handled poorly by the front desk. The app would not allow me to check in online. For some reason check in was taking an extremely long time. The shuttle for the wedding was leaving so I told the desk I would pick up my room key when I got back to the hotel. When I went to my room I realized that they had given me and the family member on my other room reservation keys to the same room, and no one had keys to the second room. I had to go back to the desk again late at night to get a new room key. read more

I reserved a spot online using Expedia. Their system was having difficulties online with the reservation process , so I ended up paying twice online. I figured I would go in person and reserve it in person, even though I tried to call and was put on hold for 14 minutes. My wife was waiting for me in the lobby, and we were greeted by a rude receptionist with cornrows that could care less about helping us. He claimed that I was lying about paying for the reservations, and didn't bother to try to solve the issue. I was going to just pay in person for a room, but that man seemed so annoyed and disinterested, that it rubbed me off the wrong way so I didn't even want to bother with getting a room there. read more

We had a frustrating experience at this hotel. I had reserved a room months prior and requested a quiet room away from the elevator. We check in and were told that the hotel was sold out and only a handful of rooms was available. We were assured that this room was what we asked for. We hauled our luggages after a 3.5 hr drive to find it was directly across from the elevator and ice machine!! We were shocked and angry. We went downstairs again and she looked for several minutes and gave us a second room. Again- it was by the elevator this time next to it!!!! I went down one more time and this time trying to control myself asked if she had any idea of the layout of the hotel. I was told there was nothing else available in the whole hotel. Really?? We kept the first room since it was at least on the top floor. The room had water stains on the ceiling and was pretty worn to say the least. It just felt dingy and dirty. Thankfully it was quiet and we did sleep undisturbed. We will never stay here again and I am a Marriott Bonvoy member. read more

Ok Love Marriott and have Essentially Endless points with all the meetings I set up for work & the Travel I do for leisure... So was planning a little get away with the hubby to the City and was looking for cheap points and a friend said this wasnt THAT far from the city... So off we went, headed to the hotel & Yes I guess its not THAT Far, I mean I could have stayed home in Boston & drove back & forth then Yes, its closer than my house but its far removed from the city (NYC that is) get there and it happens to be the beginning of a Blizzard... Get a good room, right off Elevator, Balcony which was a request, got a Fridge in the room (however it never kept anything cold) Room was great size, amenities are great. Staff was overly helpful and accomodating. Then the morning after... Im on vacation, sorry I didnt bring a shovel! And they didnt really do any type of maintenance/shoveling so we were kinda screwed and I didnt plan accordingly with snow shoes so I was wet EVERY time I had to walk in and out of hotel. Am planning a trip back in May because again next to no points and am surprising the kids with a trip for the weekend and lets face it when you stay closer to the city you get Closet sized rooms.. So yeah it is far removed, but there is EVERY STORE OR RESTAURANT you can think of on 17 (Which I loved the convenience of) and Gas stations there are 928475 in walking distance, SERIOUSLY!!! So I originally gave this place 3 stars, but I think I might up to a 4. They shouldnt lose a star for being far for me, because they didnt claim to be, that was just Dumb Google Maps assuming distance with Sky Miles... So yeah, a decent great place, they just need to shovel more in snow, and make sure their fridges actually make things cold, that was annoying but we just put stuff in the snow on the balcony, LOL.. read more

Typical Courtyard experience. Best part about this particular courtyard location is the staff; very friendly folks at the front desk that make you feel welcome. Otherwise, the rooms are just OK. I wish that the Courtyard designers would meet with some feng shui experts. The lack of built in closets takes away from so much space in the rooms. Beds are usually pretty comfortable; this one was just fine. Room was clean enough and it was conveniently located with a courtyard view (which was supposed to be quieter than the ones that are facing the road). My biggest complaint about this room? No power outlet available next to the bed on either side. Not in love with the cafe; it makes the lobby smell like burnt, microwaved food. This location was conveniently located for my meeting; so I'd stay again with expectations that are on par with what the Courtyard has become. read more

The staff at this hotel absolutely cannot be entrusted with any event logistics. Stayed at this hotel for a wedding. They shuttled two buses to the wedding venue completely packed to the point where some people were forced to stand on board. They contracted a third party to bring us back to the hotel at the end of the night. Just one. This left multiple hotel guests stranded at the wedding venue at the end of the night with no way to get back to the hotel room that they paid for. Due to weather conditions and remote venue, no uber and lyft were driving in the area. Several wedding guests ended up having to stay over night at the venue. The hotel staff failed in communicating with wedding guests about the status of the shuttle and the limited seating room and refused to take any accountability for logistical missteps. Those that actually made it back to the hotel on the first shuttle or through paying off wedding venue staff (read: extortion - but that's on the venue and not the Marriott) were offered snacks and beer (if you happened to make it back before the bar closed). I am appalled at the lack of accountability. To summarize the hotel's response, they fulfilled their end of the contract as one shuttle did arrive. At best, this was poor planning and communication on their part. At worst they completely failed their customers. The rooms are fine for anyone actually able to make it back at the end of the night. read more

We stayed in this hotel for a couple of nights for my cousin's wedding. My cousin blocked some rooms and we were able to get a pretty significant discount. A room in this 3 star hotel runs around $200 a night regularly, but we were able to get it for $109 a night, excluding taxes. I'm glad we only paid that much. That rate doesn't include breakfast, and while we were able to get free wifi (pretty good strength), I don't think it's worth it to stay here for $200 a night. The room was pretty spacious with a nice comfortable couch that can serve as a bed for a child and the bathroom was a good size, but our king bed was a tad springy. I prefer a mattress that's firmer. And if you use a hair dryer, bring your own. The one we had in the room was pretty old and useless. It'll take you a long time to dry your hair and forget about styling your hair. That was a bummer since I wanted to make my hair look nice for the wedding. I have a hard time falling asleep at night if it's not quiet. I don't have the talent of falling asleep anywhere (I wish I did), so it's hard staying in a hotel where the walls are not well insulated. I could hear the TV and mumbling coming from the room next to us. You can definitely hear noise from the corridor as well. This is a deal breaker for me. I would rather stay in a hotel that has better sound insulation, and this is why I wouldn't want to stay in this hotel again. I can just imagine how much noisier it'll be in the summer with kids running around and yelling. Yikes. Another issue we had was that our room wasn't serviced much by the housekeeper when we were gone all day for wedding festivities. The toiletries were replenished and our bed covers were fixed, but that was it. My cousin had breakfast set up for wedding guests on Sunday morning in the lobby and though the fruit, granola and other cold breakfast items were good, the hot breakfast is your typical hotel buffet breakfast--overdone scrambled eggs and overly salty bacon and sausage. Stick with the cold breakfast. We live in California, so I don't think we'll be back in Mahwah, NJ anytime soon. This hotel is okay, but if you want quiet and a firmer bed, look elsewhere. read more

I was at the hotel this evening and it looks great. The Manager told me they just finished a $2 million renovation. My guestroom was stylish and clean - simple and soothing colors. The lobby was bustling with people drinking and having dinner. I had a drink and a flatbread which were fine. They have a pool which I didn't use but looked fine and they have a decent size fitness center. They said if I wanted to I could also go to the nearby NY Sports Club complimentary. I scheduled a shuttle run in the morning and they were very accommodating. Friendly, clean and renovated - perfect for me. read more

This hotel shouldn't be a Marriott. The customer service was a average at best. My room had water stains on the ceiling, that was the good part. The bathroom was disgusting. There was black mold all over the walls and at the bottom of the glass. I stayed there for months and had housekeeping once a week. Why I bothered I have no idea. I cleaned my own room. The employees that work there were very nice. The manager was a nasty, self centered, she always had to be correct person. There were parties there with strippers, pot and who knows what else. The police were called fairly often. The trash in the parking lot was a disgusting eyesore. No wonder there was 10-20?? Cars there on a good night. I would guess there's 175 rooms?? in the hotel. I had to change where I was staying. This hotel is spotless and at minimum 75%?? Booked every night ( that's a guess from the number of cars in the parking lot). There a many places to stay within a 5 mile radius. I would choose a different property. read more

Used points to reserve two rooms as we were traveling with family. The hotel staff, without asking, gave us two rooms together that were joined by a door way. Just what we hoped for! They also adjusted our reservation via quick communication via the Marriott app to add a pack-n-play style crib for the 4-month old. I slept on the hide-a-bed couch, while my sister used the private room with king bed and the crib. The sofa-bed mattress was not comfortable, but I did not expect it to be. Our parents got the other adjoined room to themselves. We hung out in our family room space... just perfect for the five of us. Note: Fridge and microwave came in handy. Starbucks down the street. The hotel is right off the highway exit, so it was the perfect place for us to stay on a Friday night and get up the next morning to drive to the United States Military Academy for an Army West Point football game. Nice hotel and worth staying at in the general purposes. The people that work here are top notch and are awesome and work with you to make your stay as good as it can get. Since hotels are my second home with how much I travel I think this is crucial. Front desk personnel like Danielle. Food wise my trip started as it always does at all courtyards. Their menu is not GF friendly. I took the time to speak to their assistant manager and manager of food services. He was able to modify the choices kn the menu based on what they had in house already for other items to make a GF meal for breakfast. So their potatoes and bread are not gluten free, so in answer Chris did some replacements and even went out and got some GF bread I can eat. This is over and beyond. read more

My skating team of four people stayed here for two nights for a competition. Overall our stay was comfortable, but there were a couple hiccups that negatively influenced our stay: - The first room we got hadn't been cleaned or someone was already there. When we entered there were towels on the ground, leftover food on the counter, bed wasn't done, etc. - The layout is initially confusing, especially because of a lack of signage. Half of the rooms are on one side and half are on the other side; you can't access both sides from any floor besides the first floor, and they have separate elevators. I never found a sign in the lobby that said which rooms are on one side vs. the other; you only see a sign once you've chosen a side to try. When we switched to our new room after the terrible first room, we had a hard time finding the room since it was actually on the other side. - When we checked in, we were told we would get two free coffees with our stay. When we went to ask for the free coffees, we were told actually our room doesn't come with free coffee. This is very inconsistent. - There was no room service one time when I asked for towels. This wasn't a huge deal, but I thought usually there would be room service as it wasn't an odd hour and people could very well want dinner delivered at that time as well. The positive: - The hostess at night was extremely nice and handled our first dirty room situation very well. As a result I wasn't too frustrated or angry about the situation overall. - There's a mini fridge in each room, and a communal microwave in the lobby with some utensils and napkins, all free and available 24/7. - The rooms were nice -- comfortable beds, clean shower and bathroom, good lighting. This hotel wasn't bad for the price, but a lot of improvements can be made, especially toward being consistent and improving signage. read more

I really wanted to like this hotel because I went to high school in this town. But after I stayed at the Courtyard Marriott, I was reminded of why I left Mahwah. Aside from your rooms (which are very nice), do not expect anything here to work or the staff to care. It starts with the lobby coffee, which is somehow colder than room temperature and probably was brewed that morning and forgotten by the next shift. A staff person actually watched me try to drink that junk. When I tried to use the pool area on a Friday afternoon, a staff member noticed what I was about to do and immediately taped it up for "maintenance." Maintenance? On the busiest day of Marriott's week? The front desk was no help, understand that these are the same people who brew the 'welcome' coffee. There's fewer staff on Friday night and guests using the hotel services just get in the way of a smooth shift. Maybe Marriott Courtyard's amenities are open on weekdays when nobody is here, but forget about the weekend. The closest you'll get is the brochure. Next time I stay in Mahwah I won't chance getting suckered again by staying here. read more

This was a very nice and clean Hotel. Though, It is a bit hidden and hard to find the location was great. The rooms were a good size and had a coffee maker and mini frig. We did not have a microwave but, you maybe able to request one. I also love the shampoo/conditioner dispensers in shower. The location is near a lot of shops (Kohls, TJ maxx, DSW) and restaurants (Burger King, McDonalds, Panera, Olive Garden) Just to name a few . (within a mile or so) We got a Pizza delivery to the Hotel but, they also have a bistro if you want to eat in. There is a little shop if you forget any amenities We did not use the pool or take advantage of the free breakfast but , the rooms were super clean so I would stay here again. Room was nice (although a bit small). Bed was very comfortable (although s queen and we requested a king). A bit noisy (although we expected that because it's located right off a busy road- Route 17). Staff was excellent (Service couldn't have been better), lobby was beautiful and enjoyed the great cafe. The only real complaint we had was the worlds CHEAPEST toilet paper and tissues! The word thin does not do justice for both. If Marriott thinks they're saving money by cheating out on these two necessary items, they're dead wrong because you have to use a ton of each to make up for the thinnes!! We both commented that we didn't think you could make something so thin and still have it stay together (which it only just barely does)! Come on Marriott, you can do better than that! read more

I didn't get much choice in staying here because I was traveling on business, but it was one of the worst hotel stays I have ever had. Initially, things seemed okay. The lobby seems refurbished and decently designed, and the staff at the front desk was friendly. They have no room service, but you can buy snacks downstairs 24/7. The place was clean enough, but the room was very meh. I wanted to watch TV before bed, but the room was ill-designed and there was no way to watch TV from the bed- you had to be sitting on the couch, or have the TV awkwardly turned, which still wasn't great. I tried to go to bed early because of an early work day, and was woken up at 2am to the sound of people loudly talking/yelling and children screaming. It appears an extremely loud family had just walked into the room connected to mine (with only a door in between). I am a really heavy sleeper, but the noise continued for over 30 minutes, sounding as if they were literally in my room. I called the front desk and asked them for assistance, but their only reply was that someone had been sent up and couldn't hear anything from the hallway. I was up for at least an hour with the whole ordeal and had a 14 hour work day to start at 5am. The icing on the cake was waking up and going to make coffee with the coffee maker in the room and seeing that it was missing a large part of it, making it impossible to brew anything. I couldn't even off-set my lack of sleep with caffeine! If I can help it, I will never stay here again. Heed the warnings of many Yelpers and bring earplugs if you are ever forced to stay here. Otherwise, pick elsewhere. There are tons of hotels in the area and I know I won't be back. read more

This hotel has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. I had point stays here and they ended up authorizing my cc for the room twice which they claim is a Marriott policy. To make matters worse after I checked out the authorizations did not drop off even 14 days later. When I called them about it the claimed I had to talk to my cc company, which is Citibank, not some no name cc. I spoke with citi and they told me the hotel has not released the charge. I called the hotel back and they had no answers. In comparison I stayed at another nearby Marriott property. The Fairfield inn and there was no such problem. So it's this place. Don't stay there unless you want your credit eaten up by their bad billing procedures. read more

Stayed here based on a recommendation from the client I was visiting. Property was clean and had typical Courtyard features. Breakfast offerings were good but not fantastic. The one person manning the area was way too slow with the refills, but otherwise the breakfast experience was good. Front desk service was very good. TIP: Ask for a room off of Rte 17. While the noise is not considerable, it is noticable. If you're a light sleeper, or that kind of thing annoys you, do yourself a favor and ask for a room on the other side of the building. The side closest to Rte 17 is also on the parking lot, so the noise and lights that go along with that are also a factor for 1st floor rooms. Overall a typical Courtyard experience. Nothing particularly outstanding, but a tried and true hotel experience from one of the Marriott family of hotel brands. read more

My husband and I stayed at this hotel last night and it was great! The woman who checked us in and greeted us was very friendly and accommodating. We booked a king bed room, but once we got up to the room it was two queens. We went back down and she changed it very quickly for us. Our room was outstanding! It was newly renovated and it was very clean and nice. The bathroom was beautiful and clean. We overlooked a beautiful manicured courtyard. The only negative was we went to the pool and the pool deck was very cluttered from people leaving trash and towels all around it. Where the clean towels were supposed it be was just empty coffee cups. We did not end up getting in the pool because of this. Other than that, the pool did look nice and there was a nice ping pong table. We would have used this but people left a lot of their stuff on this too. An employee should monitor the pool area to make sure there are clean towels and that the pool area is devoid of liter. read more

The front desk people were friendly and we checked in quickly. I was happy with the room. I thought the bed was comfortable and the bathroom was spacious. There was free wifi which is nice. We were here for a wedding so we got blocked in for some rooms and got a solid discount on the usual $200 a night. My wife said it was noisy at night, but I sleep through anything and was not affected by the noise. Breakfast was typical eggs, bacon and pastries coffee and things so no complaints. No room service though but I usually don't need it. I guess I did not miss having it. The room was nice and clean with a comfortable sitting area next to the window so very functional. We did not get to the pool but i did bring my swim trunks just to be ready. The lounge area downstairs was comfortable and relaxing. We did spend some time lounging there after the wedding festivities were finished. Overall it was a decent place to say for one or two nights. read more

My husband and I stayed here last weekend and had a great experience. When we arrived we told the guy checking us in, David, that it was our anniversary and we were getting away for the night (even though we lived a few miles away). He was very friendly and put us in a lovely room on the ground floor. It had a sliding glass door that opened to a little courtyard where we hung out later that evening. Loud is one word I would use to describe my stay. Part of the reason why I decided to stay at this location was to continue my loyalty as a Marriott Rewards member. Most of my other cohorts stayed at the Sheraton which was about .5 miles away. Unfortunately, that was a big mistake on my part for staying at this marriott since I had very little sleep. The hotel is situated just yards away from a major highway. Imagine the sound of big rigs screaming down a highway in the middle of the night. Times that for two nights and that's what I had to experience. I was not happy. That said, I'll definitely be staying at the Sheraton down the road. It's much larger and far away from the highway. Definitely not what I expected from a Mariott. Rooms are small, have a old school tv, and no down comforters. Make sure to leave a note if you don't want something thrown out that could be mistaken for trash ie a pizza box. The service people were pretty good about that. Front staff is very nice- be sure to ask David the night guy to make cookies for you. FYI You need 5 or more people for a shuttle. Also be sure to tell the front desk where you are going for dinner- they ave tons of coupons up front. read more

The staff was very nice and the room was decent. The location leaves a lot to be desired. If you don't have a car, there's not many food or shopping options within walking distance. The toilet paper...oh my word, the toilet paper. It's literally the cheapest, thinnest toilet paper I've ever used! I seriously didn't know it came that thin. The bistro was out of everything and what they did serve was sub-par at best. There's a reason this place was inexpensive. If you're solely looking for a place to shower and crash...this is for you. I'm a pretty big fan of Marriott and its subsidiaries. We were visiting a friend for her wedding here in New Jersey and we all stayed at the Courtyard Mahwah. There isn't much in Mahwah but this Courtyard really stands out in class in the area. Love the fact that when you step in you are transported into a modern aesthetic. People are polite and efficient. The rooms are clean.. on the small side but comfortable. Their gym is 24 hours and they have an indoor pool which I unfortunately never got a chance to use. It's about 40 min from Times Square and a quick convenient drive down there if you want to live right outside of the city. Stayed at the Courtyard for a reunion. Had a very good experience. Maureen (sp) at the front desk was really on top of things. As a Platinum Elite member, I always hope for good service. Maureen (who was busy with a sport-team check-in) immediately acknowledged me. She said she was waiting for my arrival, and had upgraded me to a large suite. She also made sure I received my extra points and several snacks. Very nice. Thanks to Maureen. The hotel was extremely clean, as was my room. Overall, this was a top-notch hotel. Would definitely stay again. read more
