Our suite had a few flaws: the fireplace was non-operational, and the A/C system was incredibly loud, waking us up about every 30-45 minutes it seemed. However the suite was a good size and in good condition, and the pullout couch bed was decently comfortable too. The marketplace in the lobby was well stocked and reasonably priced, and the amenities on site were in good condition. Plenty of parking too, and a stoplight right at the exit to make it easier to come and go! Breakfast isn't included though, and for the price point that was surprising. read more

I stay at hotels a once or twice a year long term for work, and since there isn't much in the way of housing I wanted to utilize, Courtyard was my obvious choice. Middlebury is as cute as small cute towns can be. This hotel blends into the background of that cuteness and offers a great option for places to stay if you happen to be on US-7. Across from a Hannfords/McDonald's/small plaze, you can just get off the highway rest comfortably in small town USA. The rooms were decent. Though I had to do a little shuffling a couple of times because of the way my reservations were set up. Overall, it was a decent room with a king bed. Enough space for my needs. The people are very very nice here. I'm not chatty by nature, but people always asked how I was doing when I'd go down for dinner. Respectful of my privacy and kind. Definitely made me feel welcomed, which is a nice feeling when you're staying somewhere long term. read more

I wish the Starbucks lady in the lobby had just said, I don't know how to make the drink instead of giving me the yuck she made. When I told them it was so bad I had to throw it out, they got defensive and rude. They should have comped me. Very disappointing. read more

This hotel was the nicest Courtyard I've ever stayed in. We were upgraded to a lovely room with a gas fireplace. The lobby was spacious and welcoming. The woman at check in was very friendly and patient with our questions. One thing I noticed was how clean the entire hotel smelled. Oh don't get me wrong, it looked clean too. But it's nice when sight and smells align! Although we only spent 8 or so hours in the hotel, it was a wonderful peaceful stop on our journey. Yes it's pricey but it is a Marriott brand. Had a nice stay. It was Thanksgiving. We splurged and upgraded to a suite. Unique gas fireplace viewable from living room and bedroom. The proportions of the room were a bit....odd. But I think it was wheelchair accessible. Did not have anything like a table with chairs but I'm sure we could have taken the food we brought downstairs (along with our sterling silver and cloth napkins!) Unlike most extended-stay properties of this ilk, there was not a breakfast included--just be warned. Given that it was the holiday, a spendy option ($250 for the night). But if you want something with modern appointments, elevators, lots of room and light, this is a good option. read more

Sorry, Middlebury, you're not a city. The Courtyard is the only chain in town and a good spot if sharing a bed at a B&B isn't an option. It's conveniently located, about a mile from downtown and two miles from Middlebury College so you'll need a car in either case. It's right across from a Hannaford's if you forget something -- may be needed as the front desk doesn't have a great stash of "oops I forgot my toothpaste supplies, however there's a small market within the hotel where you can purchase food items. Didn't use it so didn't take note of the price. The Bistro is overpriced and half of the menu isn't available, but it's ok if you need a quick coffee and don't have time to stop in town -- otherwise there are much better locations in town for food. This was a quick overnight, so we didn't use the fitness center or indoor pool, although both were open and looked nice. Room was comfortable and clean, service was good. No safes in the room, refrigerator available on request. I'd stay here again if travels took me through the area. read more

My wife and I stayed at this hotel last summer. While reviewing expenses for my taxes this year I noticed an exceptionally high charge on my credit card receipts that I had overlooked. When I inquired I was told that they had charged me $250 for a smoke clean up. Number 1: I did not smoke in the room. Number 2: courtyard never contacted me to tell me they were accessing this charge on me. They just added it to my bill after I left. I called and asked them to refund the bogus charge. They would not. This is terrible customer service. Terrible. Do not stay at this hotel. read more

This is a unique Courtyard. I was upgraded to a premium room with a gas fireplace at check in. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable of the area. The bathroom was a little tired, but it was very spacious and functional with good heat/water pressure. The room was also very spacious and clean. The mattress was fresh and comfortable. There is a Walgreens next door and McDonalds across the street. Several local restaurants are within a 5 minute drive. The local public transit system has a stop at the front door but I did not use it. I stay in a lot of Courtyards around the country and this is certainly one of my best experiences. My only complaint is that the tv is way too far from the bed. It is hard to see and the remote didn't work very well because of the distance. Regardless, I will stay again when I return for business. read more

Stayed here for one night. My family of four had two beds which were quite comfortable. Shortly after arriving at our room, I was surorise the Front Desk called and asked if everything was to our liking. We had no problem connecting to WiFi and watching a movie on Netflix was no problem. Great value hotel. read more

Wow - a lot of negative reviews here for a really nicely appointed Marriott. This IS rural VT but I was pleasantly surprised by the amenities and cleanliness and the friendliness of everyone who worked here. I stay at a lot of chain hotels because of my daughter's travel team schedule and this Marriott is a pleasant surprise compared to many. Only complaint as others have mentioned is that the sheets on one bed were thin and scratchy and nearly worn thru from use. Otherwise great stay. I've never had a bad experience I've stayed here. The place is immaculate, spacious, cozy and have rooms that give you a feeling of relief after a long trip. The rooms smell clean and the amenities are top notch. My room smelled like fresh linen. You can tell that this place takes pride in it's appearance. The Paul Mitchel toiletries are a nice touch too. Both beds' sheets were wrinkled and had hairs. Front desk Clare kindly brought new sheets but those were also wrinkled, and altho she & I tugged, they barely fit the bed. Chair was dirty. TP was not cleanly-ripped. Smudges on bathroom faucet. Switches, phone, & alarm clock all had gunk. A/C unit made awful clicking noise. Couldn't switch rooms b/c it was full. They mopped the lobby floor right at check-out, and it was slippery. Seemed like an odd time to do that, maybe there was an issue? Saw housekeeping in AM, seemed like 2 'keepers to a room. A few in halls, too. All smiled and seemed nice. Claire was also nice, but seemingly over-worked (not that she acted that way, but she was the only one to handle ALL issues). Facility was nice enough. I didn't partake in cafe, etc. Front rooms are on main street and can be noisy, if there are sirens or traffic. I could clearly hear conversations of those in room next door. Hotel & rooms have a bit of a chemical cleaner scent. Probably not enough to bother most, but might bother you if you're sensitive. Bathroom and room were large, well-appointed, & well-lit. Shower was very nice - roomy, clean, good pressure, consistent temp, & plenty of surfaces for products. Bed was comfy and pillow selection good. Overall, not terrible, but I did expect much more for $200+/night. I stayed one night in a B&B this trip and it was top-notch. Marriott does most of its business on parents of students at Middlebury College. The place is just like every other Courtyard Marriott in the world. It's clean and friendly. It's but a five minute drive to the College. The staff is helpful at picking local restaurants and is adept at helping parents. Rooms are spacious but nothing special. Breakfast is not generally included but is generally very good. Somewhat pricy during parent weekends so come during off-peak times. read more

straight up, no nonsense three stars. i was in town for work and stayed here. all the courtyard's are EXACTLY alike, which is nice because you know exactly what you're getting yourself into. the staff was friendly and helpful, and even called me about ten minutes after i arrived in my room just to make sure everything was ok (my reputation precedes me, apparently!). the room was totally standard -- desk, love seat and coffee table, queen sized bed. i was a little disappointed that there was only a very narrow wardrobe instead of a closet. also, there was no fridge or microwave, even though there was space for it in a little bar nook. not a make or break for me, but still -- if the space is there, . . . ? one bonus was the fitness room and pool/hot tub. you're not coming to a courtyard to train for a marathon, so what they've got (the basic stuff) is more than sufficient. free parking and wifi are also plusses. on the negative side, towels are super thin. the hvac in my room didn't really seem to work (i didn't freeze to death, but i was a little disappointed). the walls are a little thin, so i heard my neighbors talking all night long. and, the tv was in this bizarro position against a wall, making it easy to view from the loveseat but almost impossible to see from the bed. i literally had to pull and exorcist neck twist to watch cnn! anyway, you get what you pay for and you know what you're getting into. three stars! read more

Usually we like staying at Courtyard but our experience today was extremely unpleasant. We inadvertently left a bag of dirty clothes on the bed before checking out and was told that housekeeping never turned in the bag of clothes. The clothes were left in a beautifully hand-embroidered cloth laundry bag. In any event, some one working at the hotel stole our (dirty) clothing and beautiful laundry bag. This news comes after the receptionist delayed our checkout by 15 minutes because the breakfast counter billed one of the breakfasts in my party to an incorrect room, which she discovered after implying that we were trying to underpay our bill by one breakfast, for a total of $5. read more

Very disappointed in my stay here stayed at Marriott courtyards I middlebury , Vermont when I lived in California when I was working no problems staying at courtyards there. Here in middlebury service staff very slow had to ask front desk to have room cleaned first. Traveling with 2 children age 9 & 6, and 1 adult beds need to be changed early room also had bugs in bathroom. When I complained at front desk ask that I bring bug for them to see?? Food high priced, no lunch hours staying for week. In California Marriott courtyards had free breakfast and happy hour. Will not be staying here again and will not recommend this hotel to anyone! read more

Very few options in Middlebury. They advertise that they have free internet, which I needed for work. However none of our devices, both my daughter and mine, can connect. The front desk was of no help, they gave me the number of their IT people. I waited on hold for 30 minutes and gave up. I have stayed at this hotel several times now, they just suck. I assume no one has internet here if none of our devices (4) work. read more

I had a last minute change in which I had to stay closer to Southern Vermont, so I changed my reservation from a hotel in Burlington to this place. I didn't look at any pictures or anything, when I booked the hotel, I just knew that it was convenient to where I needed to be. When I got into Middlebury, I really loved the town. And I was looking for the hotel on US 7, and I was looking for a traditional looking Courtyard. So, as I'm passing it by, I noticed it. I was SUPER IMPRESSED! I couldn't believe how pretty it was. I turned around and circled back. When I went inside, it was just as nice. The staff was super nice. I had a very nice room with a fireplace (operated by a wall switch, and heated the room nicely) and a whirlpool tub. The room was huge and had a nice living area with a big TV over the fireplace. It had a microwave, fridge and it was VERY QUIET! The room was very clean. I had a couple of beers at the bar and the bar staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. Too bad I wasn't hungry, because the food and menu looked very good as well. The whirlpool tub was rather small and the jets shot straight up into the air and made a mess and I couldn't adjust them, but that was the only issue I had. It was truly a pleasurable hotel experience and I look forward to staying there again. read more

The rooms are standard. Now have a refrigerator, really needed defrosting. No microwave, disappointing. Bed linen wasn't changed once during my 10 day stay. Towels average. Pool area uninviting. Business center a disgrace. Slow computers always having to wait on them. Heard several guest with billing problems, associates at front desk could care less. All they want to do is bill. Accuracy of front desk is probably the worst out of any Marriott I was a guest at. Bistro way, way over priced for what you get. Market too over priced to use. Need a car to get to the college or downtown. Cable out when other dish cable in town worked. this Hotel is only one in area, except for B&B's over wise I would recommend somewhere else. read more
