Totally agree with the other Yelp reviewer's Diane B's. comments Our room was very clean and cute. No problems with anything in the room. The hotel's mattress was extremely comfortable. Of course, I had to check the brand. It was a Sealy Posturepedic. The following morning, the checkout went smoothly. The rep. Vasair (hope this name is correct) was very nice. Courtyard Norwich is a very reliable hotel for an overnight stay. The entire hotel is spotless. The adjoining restaurant was recommended by the hotel. It's just good for drinks. However, I would recommend going out of the area for a meal. The area around the hotel appeared to be somewhat sketchy after hours. The Courtyard has a large parking area. read more

The hotel is pretty standard, but the room was recently renovated, the customer service was great (everyone was very nice and helpful), and the location was convenient (we spent one night in Norwich after flying into Hartford and before heading into Mystic). If I could give this dump less than a star I would. I book this hotel more than a year ago and I am a bonvoy member. Our room is in the basement next to the employee lounge and laundry room. The fragrance in the room is so strong I had a headache last night. The room had dirty towels in it, socks under the Bed and a broken coffee pot. When I complained I was told that courtyard is the lowest on the chain of the marriot line and there was nothing the manager could do to change my room. When I called marriot bonvoy they told me to talk to the manager. Has Marriott gotten so big that the brand is now that of a motel 6? I have stayed at Marriott's all over the world. Hotel check-in and check-out staff were quite friendly and personable. The room was okay, nothing special. Some of the renovations were poorly done, such as the door to the bathroom not opening all the way due to floor tile being too high...you get the idea. The price is fair given the age of the place. Front desk receptionist Matteo deserves an absolute raise! That was the best customer service I have ever received at a hotel. He made us feel very welcomed and went above and beyond anything we asked or needed. He had superb manners and was just the best person they could've ever put at the front desk. He kept cookies out for guests, made sure we had extra towels after we used all ours, and was diligent in making sure we were happy. Overall pretty clean and quiet place. As an added bonus this was the first time I've swam in a "heated" pool that was actually heated! It felt like you were in a jacuzzi! Everything was stocked. read more

Their "Courtyard_Guest" WiFi is weak and unreliable, and that's just in my first 10 minutes. Strong signal but next to zero connectivity. C'mon guys - seriously?! No Continental breakfast here - their Bistro is closed due to Covid (then again, what *isn't*?) but a Dunkin Donuts being close by certainly helps. Guests also get 10% off at the nearby steakhouse. The biggest concern is that I was not allowed to insert the EMV chip on my credit card into the payment system kiosk - I had to SWIPE it. This is an invitation to fraud & credit card skimming if I ever saw it. Take a look at the back of an average credit card. The three mag stripe tracks represent technology that is nearly 50 years old. It became so subversive, problematic, and susceptible to fraud that EMV looked at establishing a contingency solution years ago against customers having their identity & their money stolen. Sorry to be preachy here, but you're asking this writer (with a graduate degree in digital forensics) to be ok with this at a higher end hotel chain? Sorry - it is a red flag for me upon a check in at *any* property, and the hotel deservedly gets dinged major credibility points here. Note that you will be charged an additional $40 upon check in as a hold for "incidentals" which will be refunded upon checkout. The rooms are nice and modern enough. Norwich is a sleeping dead enough town anyway. Even though you'll hear the adjacent I-395 traffic humming by all night, the property should get you a decent enough rest. read more

I stayed at this Marriott because I had good experience with this hotel in the past but this trip when I stayed at this location it was a nightmare. There were three live cockroaches during my stay and I mentioned it to the front desk and the guy was showing me rude and didn't do anything about it. I would not recommend this hotel and I will not be staying there again. I ended up staying at a different hotel because of this. read more

Courtyard Marriott is always reliable and this location is no exception. I was in town for a few days and this location was in a great spot. I did my homework and made the reservation. Needless to say, I was not disappointed in any aspect. Some of the rooms have balconies - with half facing the parking lot and trees and the other facing the parking lot and the highway. We had one with a highway facing balcony. No chairs for this one (but others do have), but it was a nice touch to the room. Everything was clean and while I'm not one of those who cares much for the decor, everything was a little more modern than some of the other locations I've stayed in. Probably one of the more modern and better looking internally Courtyards I've been to. There was no tub, just a stand in shower. If there is one complaint, the shower nozzle could use options - there was only one stream available, but the pressure was fine. They could also use another shelf or something in the shower as well. There is an indoor pool and a Jacuzzi, but there was always a lot of people so we didn't bother. The fitness room is actually spacious and among one of the larger rooms I've seen in any Courtyard. Parking is free. Depending on what time of the day you're coming, the spots in the front predictably fill up, but around the back there was always open spots. Staff was generally pleasant as always. One of the housekeepers was a little rude, but otherwise everyone was great as usual. I have good hearing and generally didn't hear too much noise - however whenever there is a noisy guest, it's not the hotel's fault. There was one guest nearby who opted to yell at her kids at the top of her lungs and slam her door almost all of the time - but thankfully it wasn't too late when it was done. When there are noisy people, it's not the hotel's fault or "paper thin" walls as some people like to complain about, but the actual guest(s) themselves. But there was no issues aside from that particular guest. The room has a microwave, a mini fridge, a Keurig coffee machine, ironing board, and more than enough outlets and lights. The elevators are slow, but not as bad as other locations. I didn't try the hotel restaurant, so no comments about that. Overall a great stay and one I'd return to again surely if in the area again. read more

Was uncomfortable from the start as did not look like it was kept up and the so called place to get food was closed at 4 :30 pm.Went to room and got dressed and cleaned up.On way to go downstairs from 4th floor the elevator sounded like it was having issues and stopped wherever it was so we had to take stairs down.On way out door while passing which I find out later is the manager and I said it appears the lights are out and she said not in a courteous way we have a power outage.So I take it the lights went out in the town.Come back after being at a concert and passing the front desk the young man I said and I quote"Are the elevators working"He states no they are not working and as I pass I hear laughing to my right of which was the Lady Manager another worker and as I later find out is the GENERAL MANAGER and none of them say a word to us.We walk up 4 flights of stairs and when we get to 4th floor its pitch black and hot.As we were walking down a long hallway 1 step at a time I walk into a metal luggage cart.We get to the room and it's hot and pitch black.I am disgusted as my wife and I who are over 65 years old now cannot stay here and its around 1:30 am.We go back down the four flights of stairs and when I get to the guy at the front desk I state why didn't you tell us the lights were out?He said he forgot or something to that avail.Anyhow those 3 other people were there and the manager came over and my wife said too gher why didn't you tell us the lights were out and I swear to God she says "How do I know what floor your on"That was a sick response from a Manager so I said they need to call someplace else or something to get us a room.She ended up putting us on the third floor which I had no idea there were lights there.I was livid how we were treated and said to her that your sitting there and don't say anything while we are going up in a dark place.Some wise guy yells out from behind me it was just a misunderstanding.I tell him I'm not 20 years old and cannot be running up and down these stairs in the dark so I don't know what he means by misunderstanding.Another clown im thinking only to find out that he's the General manager of the Marriott Courtyard in Norwich Connecticut who goes by the name Zach.What a shame and to think we use the Marriott all over and they always try to push sales of weeks to us like this is some kind of paradise hotels they have.P.S our phones were dead from being out for awhile and taking photos. read more

I'm sure Norwich, CT is a fine town or city; but, my experience at this hotel is BANANAS! My teenage son and I walk into the hotel to check-in and the hotel check-in staff is distressed. "I'm so sorry - we have a situation - there is an actual physical altercation and they are attacking my staff." The guy locks himself in a room behind a metal door. My son jokingly said "we have three baseball bats in case we need to defend ourselves" - he was joking because something like this should not happen at a Courtyard Marriott hotel. It was like the universe said "hold my beer". Countdown about 7 seconds and in walks two thug looking gentlemen wearing matching Adidas garb - one wearing a ski mask yelling the "N word" and saying how they are going to "F word somebody up" - and they ran around the corner and started punching other people. My son and I immediately left. Minutes later 6-7 police vehicles surrounded the building. We left and went to Mystic. Marriott refused to comp my rooms. I was using a voucher and my points so my stay should have been free. I ended up paying almost 500 dollars for a night in a similar type of hotel under Marriott - like a tier 3 one step above a motel! Marriott threw me 5000 points when I used 26000 to stay. Marriott didn't do the right thing - I'm all good with never visiting Norwich, CT again. Stay away from this Courtyard. I called the hotel the next day to ask what happened and he said this "never happens" - but some young adults rented a room and decided to throw a raging party. When the staff said no parties allowed - the guests let fists fly. Shame on you, Marriott! **** UPDATE **** The manager ended up giving me an additional 25000 points which at least covers a night! That was a much more acceptable gesture and I have updated my rating to a 2 star based on the customer service quality of the management. read more

What can I say! I stay in high end hotels normally for work and vacation. But we were in Norwich for a funeral. The moment we arrived and until we left the staff were absolutely outstanding. My wife even commented about them being really warm and welcoming. We lost my son's fluffy owl and I had to drive back and staff helped me out instantly. If you are in need of hotel in Norwich I highly recommend it. The room was nice for a short term, great staff and they offer breakfast as well. Coming from someone who has worked in the customer service industry for over 20 years, his customer service skills are absolute top notch!! The patience he has is incredible!! I booked with a third party (worst mistake) and had a huge issue with them upon my check in. He took excellent care of me and handled the situation very professionally (even though the third party site was being very unreasonable and unprofessional to him) but he kept his cool and handled the situation for me. Mariott's unending upgrade/update efforts didnt go unnoticed here. As a sign of the times the color scheme was updated. New art work. Showers have been enclosed to look new again. New furniture. Lobby got a make over and this Norwich location followed suit. Friendly check in team! Clean rooms (though the smallest sq footage for sure). Swanky new bathrm sinks. Love the new Paul Mitchell hair care line they provide. TV was small but matched the size of the room. I ask Marriott: can you make a few extra extra large presidential suites for those of us that just want to be boujee? read more

I do not recommend this hotel. They assigned me to room 217 which they know to be a problem. It is right over the lobby and all I heard and felt all night was the door slamming and vibrating. I was also charged for breakfast, and as my dad is an Elite Bonvoy member we were supposed to receive a free breakfast. I filed a case and heard nothing for 2 months. I called back twice and finally got an email response--"no compensation will be given". Unprofessional lack of response and clearly no caring. I cancelled my future reservations. I never been disappointed by any of the Courtyard by Marriott that I have stayed in the past. We needed a room for one night as we were going to an concert at Mohegan Sun. This Courtyard was clean and looks like it was recently renovated. I was glad that it did not disappoint either. The check in experience was quick and easy less than 5 minutes we had our room keys and ready to go. We got a double queen with the breakfast package for 2. Becky, the girl who was our front desk person was very informative. She let us know about the free shuttle to and from the casino and told us about the schedule and even pencil us in. We had reservations at a restaurant and were running late so we did not take the shuttle but it was nice knowing that if we had too many of those free drinks at the casino we had the option to take the shuttle. The breakfast package we had included a hot item and a drink or two cold items and a drink. I got the avocado toast which was delicious and ny sister got the bistro egg sandwich which came with a side of fruit. They also have starbucks coffee which was amazing after a night we had. Definitely always an option when going to an event in any of the casinos. The only thing that they tend to sold out quickly when there are shows so you should always book as soon as you know. read more

I was recently staying at the courtyard. I got really drunk and was wandering around the building trying to find a door to smoke a cigarette outside of. I found one. I was locked out. The front desk agent was so nice with guiding me back to my room. I then was looking for the ice machine, to make another drink, and she came downstairs and offered to get ice for us. Good: - decent rate - spacious rooms - balcony - nice lobby - decent selection at sundries shop - nice front desk staff Meh: - beds (too springy) - gym (small) - location (right off highway, minimal choices walking distance for food) Bad: - cost of breakfast (for this hotel, breakfast should be included. Hampton Inn has free breakfast, costs less, and has nicer rooms) - AC units are barely sufficient - wifi is super slow (using my hot spot) - severely outdated rooms / decor Overall this isn't a horrible hotel and I wouldn't avoid it, but I wouldn't seek it out. Not many lodging options, though, in this area. Expected a bit more from Marriott. read more

I stayed here with my boyfriend for one night. We were looking for a hotel with reasonable rates near Mohegan Sun. I was between this and the Holiday Inn. I ended up using Priceline Name your Price and paid $200 for 1 night here. When I saw that I got this hotel for $200, I was initially turned off. The pictures showed an outdated Marriott that I was not looking forward to staying at. I was pleasantly surprised when I showed up for check in. The entire hotel is being remodeled. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. She told me about the FREE shuttle they offer to and from Mohegan, which I didn't know about when I booked. The room was so newly remodeled that it had a faint smell of fresh paint. The decor was great and everything was super clean. I felt like I was the first person to stay in the room. It was so spacious and the bed was comfortable. I would say the only negative is no free breakfast. There's a great cafe in the lobby but I didn't eat there. I would stay here again and recommend it to friends and family. read more

This was the second time I've stayed at this hotel. I checked in and had an envelope waiting for me stating I was the "Guest of the Day." This entitled me to two complimentary breakfasts in the hotel restaurant. The two ladies at the front desk were extremely warm and friendly. My room was exceedingly warm and humid when I got in. I cranked the AC on but it did not seem to be working very well. It took a very long time for the room to cool off. The room smelled a little funky - like the smell of cigarette smoke had been masked by something. The shower smelled a little funky and the caulking in the shower was stained with mold and mildew. I also hate their pillows - they have no substance. You can stack five of them up and they flatten down to nothing. Breakfast was the only decent part of the hotel. I was supposed to stay for two days - but I finished up early - I checked out at 2:00 pm - they could have charged me for the second day if they wanted to - but they did not. read more

In town for the Red Sox Winter Weekend event at Foxwoods, this place was a 15-20 min ride away. Did a pre-purchase rate for the first time and I probably won't do that again, didn't save as much as I thought and it really RESTRICTS you with changes. I noticed I clicked the wrong number of beds (1 King instead of 2 Queen) and the hotel staff were awesome correcting it. You can't call the toll free number for a pre-purchase rate to change anything. The check-in? Great! The room, Great! The Bistro? Well now there is a reason for the 4 stars. The "Bistro" is just re-heating pre made food and charging prices as if they just made things from scratch. Sure it's convenient, but really? $20 for 2 sandwiches for breakfast? And they were "ok". Service from the Bistro folks was great...so they got that. There are a few restaurants in the area (and one on site we didn't try) so go for those. Parking here can get tight when busy. My husband and I stayed here for an overnight stay during the weekend of July 25-26 for our annual get away. We were welcomed by Matt, who made our stay here fantastic. He treated us as family members. The room was very clean, quiet, secure, and comfortable. I wasn't sure if I wanted to stay at a hotel this year due to Covid happening, but I'm glad we chose this one. The tv worked, there were plenty of outlets with usb chargers. The closet was normal sized for a hotel. The jacuzzi bath tub was very large and easily fit two people. The shower was very large, you could have fit three grown people in there, and we had no issues with the water pressure or temperature. I loved how the room was decorated. It was very modern and unlike any other place we have stayed at. Checkout was easy and a breeze, Nicole helped us with checking out and she was great as well. My husband and I would return again if given the chance or if we were traveling to this part of the state of an extended amount of time. read more

I stayed here the other night after an event for work. Sadly I didn't get to use any of the amenities like the pool, spa or fitness center, because I got out late and they were already closed down. I was very impressed with this place. It was recently renovated and everything is new. I had a room with a single queen bed and the staff left one of the lights on for me because they knew I was coming in late. It was nice to not come into a dark room. There was a coffee machine, a microwave and a fridge in my room. The bed was a nice size and super comfy! The staff was friendly, welcoming, and helpful. This hotel was very quiet. I didn't hear a thing so I had a peaceful nights rest. If I have to stay in the area again I would choose to stay here. Loved this place! read more

With Mohegan Sun Price Gauging 7 miles away is the Courtyard By Marriott and on an evening with The "BOSS" Bruce Springsteen was playing Mohegan we opted for the 299.00 a night gauging instead of the $599.00 the sun wanted. Note: Expedia had room for 179.00 so after doing the Mariott Guarantee via email my room was reduced to $179.00 - 25% which to be honest WAS STILL TOO HIGH FOR THIS PLACE Friendly staff upon check in and a nice lobby plenty of business / computer space / free printer to get your boarding pass done / starbuck coffee shop in lobby as well as some vending machines etc. Free shuttle to and from Mohegan sun every 30 minutes I drove and did not partake. Room itself was OLD Funky like mildew smell and an old time AC unit that cycled every 10 dam minutes. Linens were fine but area for bathroom and sink were barely wide enough to fit in. Shower and towels from the Fred Flintstone age, and bed was so soft UGH! Small serviceable desk but Internet was spotty and place is located in a Tmobile area with very little coverage. Not that I have any interest in returning to Mohegan sun, but if I did this place would not be my sleeping destination. read more

Three other frugal fellas and I decided that forking over $600 a night to stay at the Mohegan Sun hotel was just not in the budget if we planned to have any money leftover to have fun at the casino itself. So, we opted to stay down the street at a Courtyard Marriott and were very pleased with our decision. The room was a large size with two queen beds, plenty of space for our baggage without tripping over it. Our room was on the first floor just outside the lobby area, so I was a little concerned about what the noise level was going to be like. You can imagine that a lot of late night casino goers may be a little on the loud/intoxicated side upon return to their hotel. Well, the door must have been sound proof or something, because I didn't hear a thing all night, or even in the morning when the breakfast area filled in with guests. I've stayed at Mohegan before, and seriously, unless you're planning to take advantage of the hotel services, save your money and come here--our room for four came to about $220 for the night including all taxes, fees, etc. They have free shuttle service to and from Mohegan that runs pretty late, and even if you miss the last shuttle, we were told that a cab ride back to the hotel would only be about $20. A justifiable expense when considering the savings over staying at the casino hotel. Unless I come across an incredible deal on a room at Mohegan, I will probably try to stay here again next time I head down there. read more

Everything here is fine...no real missteps..just middle of the road average. Check in was excellent..employees are very friendly and we had some delicious popcorn as a welcome snack. Room is very modern...but in typical Marriott fashion..fairly small. Shampoos..soaps etc in the bathroom are very tiny and barely enough for one person. Rooms seem very soundproof..didn't hear any neighbors at all. Breakfast served here is serviceable..but cost my wife and I $28! Hampton Inn down the road has a better breakfast and is free. They offer a free shuttle Friday and Saturday nights to Mohegan Sun..why not Foxwoods? Like all hotels in the area..expect to pay dearly on weekend nights. In short..its a nice,quiet,friendly clean hotel...good for a night while passing through. read more

The staff is top notch with a "can do" adittude and understand what customer service means. They have a van to bring you to Mohegan Sun or other local places.. So while trying to just have a nice relaxing get away, without kids or dogs, we just wanted to chill and sit in a hot tub. After working out what to do with the kids and looking over what was offered, we booked here. Upon arrival we went in and unpacked, got our suits on and went down to the pool. Of course the hot tub has been out of commission for months, without any notification on the website. We complained, and asked very politely if we could get a refund, go somewhere else and an email got sent to the manager. After about a half hour, I got a call from the front desk saying that on the website it doesn't say the hot tub is working....I almost died laughing... It also doesn't say our toilet is working either.. Anyway, they flat out refused any refund or offered any other compensation or even an apology from management. Will never use any hotel of this chain again and I advise everyone else the same! read more
