The entire staff at this Marriott have been nothing but helpful, professional, and incredibly customer focused. I had a difficult situation regarding getting rooms for a very important and personal event. Everyone on site including Regina and Christina, and especially Tim Howard the GM, were absolutely sympathetic and went above and beyond for us. Their willingness to help and passion for creating a customer experience second to none were obvious and a pleasure to work with. I literally shopped every hotel in Marin, and this is the only one I'd recommend to the people I care about. The hotel itself is fantastic, but kudos to Tim and his staff - they put it absolutely over the top. Thanks again! read more

Had a voucher for a hotel already booked online, drove little over an hour to get there, once we got there the lady told us the voucher didn't work even though we already had a room reserved online, so that didn't make sense. They tried up charging us 4 times what we already paid and we just told them to cancel, since she said it wasn't available then they tried charging us a cancellation fee. While on the phone trying to explain the situation, everyone acted like they hadn't dealt with us and weren't sure what the problem was. Vicki was the lady we talked to on the phone and she was extremely rude, nearly hung up on us and told us to just call back later. I give customer service a ZERO. read more

Very nice, comfortable stay, made even better by Dennis and Vicky at the front desk. They knew all about the nearby sites, and from their recommendations, we had a fantastic time taking the ferry to Angel Island. Hotel is near the freeway, so it was easy to get around. I do wish our room was brighter--tough to put on make-up and my hubby missed a spot shaving. (But this isn't the fault of the personnel at the hotel. I'll ask for a brighter room next time). Won't ever stay here again. We're longtime Marriott Rewards members that were put in an ADA room with a shower head that only reached my husband's torso, was right next to an elevator (people coming and going until 3am) and had a heater/AC unit that was extremely loud. Bad customer service I was yelled at by the receptionist if I didn't pay her more money she wasn't going to check me in and walk away from her counter. I got complementary breakfast but I still pay for it so it wasn't complementary. Then the mini fridge didn't work and on top of that they when to clean my room and my husband found poop on the bathroom floor when we came back. Really bad experience won't stay there again and I don't recommend this place. read more

I had to stay here for a week and a half for work. The night staff are very friendly and accommodating. I was shocked that the most updates didn't go past the lobby and bar. When I made my reservation, I called and was told that there is a microwave and refrigerator in the rooms. When I got to my room there was only a tiny refrigerator and no microwave. I had to request a microwave for my room. Prior to that, coming off the elevator on the 2nd floor, they are many stains on the carpet. When I got to my room they were stains on the arm chair and foot rest and many stains on the carpet floor. I immediately let the front desk night staff aware and they came to see the stain. The staff was willing to change my room or change at the chair. I switched to another room with even more carpet stains and still a stain in the arm chair. It appeared any room that I would go to I would have carpet stains or some form of stain. I was informed by the night staff that they tried to clean the carpet but many stains did not come out. This place is a major need of a remodel and upgrade of all the floors and rooms. It was still clean and the staff is pleasant. To be clear, the rooms are fine and the front desk personnel are courteous and efficient. This review is the result of my experience over several visits to this particular Marriott's lobby restaurant/lounge. I am repeatedly shocked at the poor customer service, especially from a well respected hospitality chain. The service is painfully slow, frequently incorrect and uniformly lacks any interest in pleasing the customer. Today was typical. About 8:30 pm, 4 or 5 people sitting in the lounge, nobody else in line except me. Two servers behind the counter can't be bothered to even acknowledge my presence. I waited patiently while one server watched a quesadilla melt (fully 2 minutes standing in front of the toaster oven) and the other one was fumbling with a stack of receipts, maybe calculating his tips? Finally, after 5 minutes, one walked up to me... No words; no 'hi, may I help you?' He just stood in front of me. I asked for a beer and a wine, also asking what kind of white wine they had by the glass. He didn't know. I suggested that he look in the fridge behind him to see what was open...'good idea!' he said. Unbelievably, he became distracted in the middle of the process and began to help his compatriot fumble through the closed checks. After another minute or two the wine came, but he forgot the beer. My point is simply that Marriott is no stranger to hiring and training. If the service is this bad (I've stayed at this hotel 8 times in the last 2 years) it's because Marriott chose not to spend the effort to get this right. Shame on them. read more

Horrible place to stay. I had a room block at Marriott Novato for my wedding. One of my friends found a spider in the bed. They switched her to another room. My mom fell in the bathtub during my wedding night because the bathtub was slippery, and she suffered a wrist fracture. The front desk told my parents that they should have asked for a non-slip pad. Shouldn't this be standard in all hotels bathrooms? Shouldn't they try to prevent accidents from happening? I also heard that my brother-in-law slipped in the tub as well, but he was able to catch his fall. Everyone hid the accident from me until after my husband and I got back from our mini-moon. When I heard about it three days later, I called Misty, who handles group reservations, to complain about the situation. At that point, neither my parents nor my friend who was helping my parents the night of the accident had heard back from Ibrahim, assistant manager of the hotel, to discuss what could be done about the situation. Misty transferred me to Ibrahim, who put me directly into voicemail. He then proceeded to call my friend to talk about the situation. After he calls my friend, he gives me a call and tells me that he spoke to my friend about this already. WTF! (My friend let me know when she actually got the phone call from him.) I asked him why it has taken so long. Ibrahim said he was busy with other things in the hotel. Shouldn't complaints about accidents take precedence over other matters?! After I spoke to Ibrahim, I spoke to Marriott claims, who then told me that Ibrahim only filed the accident report that day, which was a Wednesday. The accident happened the Sunday before. As of today, I still haven't heard back from Ibrahim about rectifying the situation. I also complained to Marriott Customer Care about the customer service at the hotel. That took a month of back and forth. In the end, they gave me points--enough for a two-night stay in a Category 4 hotel. Whatever. I just don't want this to happen to anyone else. Marriott Novato, safety comes first. Please take this note of advice. You need to hire folks who care about your guests.  Horrible, horrible experience. My poor mom was in the ER until 2:00 am, and she had a flight out at 8:00 am that same morning. Marriott Novato, you may also want to fix the sidewalk in front of your hotel. My mother-in-law tripped and fell on our wedding morning because the sidewalks were uneven. She walked down the aisle with a swollen lip and cuts on her face. Luckily my make-up artist did a beautiful job covering the cuts. read more

Okay so I don't write reviews unless I'm very unhappy or very happy with an experience. In the case of the Courtyard Marriot I was very unhappy. Had the guy who checked me in done it properly the rest of my husbands birthday weekend would have actually not been so bad. My biggest complaint would be with the man who checked us in on Friday evening. I was tired from a long day, and when I went to check in, I explained to the guy behind the counter that I was checking in and he asked for my name. After I gave him my name I asked to make sure that the breakfast that I paid extra for was on my room and just wanted to make sure everything was straight. I asked him if there was anything I needed when I went for breakfast. If he was having a bad day that's not my fault and I didn't deserve the attitude that came my direction. He did not answer my question and gave me this look like I was stupid for asking. Then another lady said yes we were covered. When I asked what I needed he said we just needed to go to the restaurant. I asked where it was and with his wonderful attitude said "It's behind you if you turn around and look". WOW! Who talks to their customers that way. Then I asked can we eat dinner in the restaurant he said if you look you'll see...whatever! I asked if they were open for dinner and he said yes. When we got up to the room and called down to the restaurant we were told they're not open for dinner! How nice. To make matters worse when he asked for the card I used for the reservation, he did not tell me that they were going to take $400 of my account and hold the funds. He did not tell me that because it was a debit card the funds were going to be held, so I had to transfer money when I found a couple days later just to keep from bouncing any checks. Had he told me they were going to hold funds, I would've given him the credit card. Next when we checked out come to find out the jerk who checked us in didn't check us in properly because upon check out we were charged for our two breakfasts! Excuse me I prepaid it! GRRRR! Okay so the reason why I didn't make it 1 star was because the other staff was very helpful in rectifying the problem. However for the price I paid for the room I expected much better service upon checkin! I was not thrilled with the hot tub as it is indoors and the the steam enhances the obscene amount of chlorine in the hot tub and made both of our eyes water after about 10 minutes that is way to much! Unfortunately I will never stay at this hotel again! I absolutely don't recommend this location especially for the price! Recently renovated - clean, comfortable bed. The pullout sofa bed was a extremely uncomfortable. The king size bed didn't have a comforter on it, so I felt cold. I asked on the online request form for an extra towel and pillow, but they weren't in the room when we walked in. I called the front desk and someone brought them up within 10 minutes. Ok stay. We've stayed at marriott's a few times. I can't comprehend why cant' they just include a continental breakfast and have to be so stingy about this. Location is right next to McD's so i was able to get a cup of lukewarm coffee early am on a cold freeze day. Also, next to safeway and some plaza so i guess if you're desperate for some items, you could grab some. I will write to the hotel personally, but what was quite annoying was that we had a couple of cold freeze nights in the b area. Novato weather was no exception. On Sunday am, when i got up and went downstairs to get some hot water for my thermos, to my utter horror, i noticed my car was iced over! My windshield and windows needed to be scraped of the ice. I went to the reception to inform her of this. I'm sure she's aware since this has occurred the past two nights. I asked if they have some tools, ie ice scrapper for me to scrap my windshield. She tells me no and shrugs! To which i asked, well, isn't htere a maintenance man around --i'm sure they've got some useful stuff in his toolbox. She basically tells me no and suggests getting hot h20!! Yes, i drink hot h20 but to suggest that as a solution to dethaw my windshield, it'd crack, girlfriend!! Do not give this advice, unless you want to pay for someone's windshield! Ok, mgmt y'all need to hire some ppl with common sense. Your guests have come on and stayed and there's a freeze. Go next door to the hardware store and buy 1/2 dozen scrappers for guest-use. Problem solved--ok!! read more

Had an AC issue with the room, and couldn't move since our kids were in the adjoining room. The team hear took amazing care of us - Marriott points and comp breakfast for 5! Totally over the top! The room are nice at all. I travel a lot for work and face stayed in many marriotts and this has to be one of the worst ones.

My experience was horrible from the moment I went to check in all the way to days after my check out. I checked in on sat August 18th and Vicki checked me in and everything was going fine until I get up to the room and find that I was checked into the wrong room. I reserved a king size bed not two full size beds. I went back downstairs and she (Vicki) insists that I'm in the correct room. I showed her my reservation email that shows a king size bed and a charge for military rate of $206.20 she then realizes that she checked me into the wrong persons room who also had the same first name of Chad and the same last initial but a different last name who was also on military rates. I also noticed that she charged my card for $230 instead of $206.20 she then says this is because they pre charge for Incidentals. No where on their website nor anywhere on the reservation email that came from their website and no where on any of the forms that I signed to check-in did it say that they were charging me for incidentals ahead of time. Vicky assured me that the additional charges would be returned to my account after check out. Once Vicky checked me in to the correct hotel room with the correct bed I got to the hotel room and I noticed an additional charge for $230 on my account immediately came back out to the front desk and was able to speak to somebody other than Nikki who told me that should not have happened and that person is shirred me that the $230 additional charge would be released on my account the second that I checked out. Come Sunday morning when I'm checking out of the hotel I spoke to the assistant general manager by the name of Abraham. Abraham assured me that the additional $230 would be refunded to my account immediately on Monday afternoon after all of the books have been closed for the weekend. He also told me that being charged an additional $230 never should've happened and I also never should've been checked in to the wrong hotel room in the first place and that Vicky should have looked up the proper last name instead of just trying to look at the first name last initial and military rate. Come Tuesday after noon I noticed that the additional $230 was off my account and that my account was charged the proper rate of $206.20 plus the $3.50 for the bottle of water that I drink in the room. Now come Wednesday afternoon I noticed the $230 hold is back on my account from the hotel affecting my account balance and affecting my livelihood. I then in turn called the hotel and ask to speak to Abraham I left Abraham a voicemail as it appeared he was on the other line. I've been called back to the hotel and a lady by the name of Misty answer the phone I asked Misty if I can please speak to a manager she then said that she would be happy to help me I asked her if she was a manager. She replied with no she is an event coordinator and a Member of the leadership team. I've been begin to explain to her what was happening and gave her all of the information necessary to look up my account. She then demanded that I give her my full credit card number over the phone I tried to explain to her that that was not necessary And that when I was in person they only needed my first name last name and the last four digits of my credit card number. Misty then got a severe attitude with me telling me that if I want her to help me that she needs that information and that is the only way that she can help me. If she is in fact a member of the leadership team she needs to receive extreme retraining on how she handles a customer who is upset and is having a unpleasant experience days after they have checked out of the hotel. I've been called back and spoke to somebody who had a heavy accent that I could not understand their name and asked to speak with a manager she then said that a manager was on another phone right now and that they would be happy to take a message and have the manager call me back or I can wait on hold I chose to wait on hold and at that time the manager name Sophia came on the line and explained why they needed my full credit card number and everything in a professional and courteous manner. I do not recommend staying at this hotel and clearly I am regretting not reading yelp reviews and Google reviews for this location. read more

Made a reservation through Priceline/Booking. Com. Out to dinner for a birthday celebration and I get an email that Courtyard Novato is overbooked. Three hundred miles away from home on a three day weekend( Valentine's Day, President's day,Chinese New Year). Called hotel and basically was told not our problem. Guess when the hotel has a 20% occupancy it is happy to sell rooms through Priceline; otherwise buyer beware. What sleaze bags! No decent hotels in 100 miles:all booked. Driving to San Jose (half way home) to a hotel with s vacancy. I hope the Courtyard Novato's greed in overselling rooms brings them exactly what they deserve!! (Bedbugs would be appropriate). Booking .com did try to remedy situation and found a hotel in San Jose and is paying the rate difference. Overall a horrible experience and a ruined celebration. Super nice staff (except for surly bistro worker :/) and easy checkin/out process. My room was super clean and nice with a little balcony. The bed was extremely hard but bedding clean and lots of awesome pillows. Fairly quiet, too. I felt safe here. Great location and close to gas, food, and my favorite little juice bar (Nekter). I am here now and checking out on Tuesday. Staff is nice, room is spacious. My only complaint so far is that the in-room fridge is not cold. My SO called the front desk to tell them, and the engineer who came to our room offered to bring a bigger fridge. He told us that the smaller fridges don't get very cold, which is what really bothered me. Why do they use fridges that don't get very cold? Otherwise, a fine place to stay. read more

This was a great place to stay in Novato! The hotel itself is very nice. I was able to check in via the Marriott app, our room key was ready for us. The staff is very friendly. Our room was pretty nice, typical Courtyard type room. The only negative I found, was the carpet. There was a huge stain right in front of the television, which I was able to overlook, but I know others are picky about those things. I would stay there again. read more

I've been staying at This Particular Courtyard for over 10 years - Since before the big renovation. In the last 2 years this place has gone down hill BIG TIME. Marriott ranks it as a Category 5 Property but I'd say it's closer to a Cat 2. The facility is in serious disrepair. The last 2 times I have stayed there were serious issues with smell, cleanliness, A/C unit noise/malfunctions, etc, etc. Last stay there was a LARGE crack in the shower wall that when reported to the management was completely ignored. Both nights the A/C unit turned into some sort of freight train at 4 in the AM. My concerns were not addressed in an appropriate fashion and the problems reported were dismissed and never fixed. The staff is aloof and uncaring. The GM and Assistant GM can't be bothered. As far as a nice hotel? Not particulary as it could be a LOT better. Unfortunately it is the only Marriott property in the area so I will now have to stay elsewhere and I will be directing my clients, companions, and friends to do likewise. I have over 55 nights in Marriott properties in the last 9 months and I will NEVER frequent this one again. read more

OK, We have stayed at this Courtyard a couple of times. It is basically very good but not up to new standards. Most people know how important staff interaction is with customers. A caring staff member will adjust when there are issues and most customers will be understanding when they feel there is some reciprocity. I'll get to the point. Upon arrival I was told by a smiling clerk, "Sir you get breakfast with this booking/room". I had not recalled that and it was a pleasant surprise. The next morning when my wife and I went downstairs to have breakfast we were asked our room number and told "You have ONE breakfast". This was somewhat embarrassing and rather than take it we just left. We travel a great deal and when hotels offer breakfast is is for all occupants. We had a three night stay and did not pursue their food options or any other extras. We will not stay there again. It appeared a bait and switch method. Once in a bad mood we noticed their old slow elevators, somewhat dirty parking lot, and no room cleaning or notice of reduced room cleaning. Also, the room layout makes the bathroom area dim. Funny how a negative interaction can change one's view. We also note there is a brand new Courtyard not far north of this one in Petaluma (not sure if open yet). This one claims to be run by Marriott and that does not bode well for the brand. We have been with them for nearly 30 years but notice they are slipping. read more

My experience with Courtyard Novato this July was entirely pleasant, and a post-trip tidbit pushed my opinion and this review to 5 stars. The room was nice and sizeable with a very comfortable bed, flat-panel TV, mini-fridge, A/C and other amenities. The hotel also offers a gym, both indoor and outdoor pool, a restaurant and a couple of vending machines with basic stuff. My room was cleaned each morning, which is no news, but what surprised me was to leave Saturday afternoon at 4PM and come back at 9PM, only to discover that my room had been cleaned during the evening! The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating to my every need, and The Bistro (the hotel's restaurant) was surprisingly fairly priced (which in a way makes up for the cost of the room) compared to other hotels I've been at. Not being too high-class with my food preferences, I picked the Bistro Burger a number of times in the evening, and it was always nice and juicy, with more fries than I could ever down on a single seating. I tasted various of their breakfast offerings, and they were all very nice, although I would usually stick with cereal to stay light. The Bistro also serves various kinds of Starbucks coffee, both hot and iced. The hotel is very close to a McDonalds, which you have absolutely no reason to visit unless you're trying to go cheaper than the Bistro, only to eat less and worse. Plenty of other businesses around, including a Safeway and other restaurants. The hotel also offers a complimentary shuttle to nearby business locations which I would've used every day had I not rented a car. Now, for the after-taste, better than any wine I've ever tasted: On my check-out day, just as I was getting on the shuttle that would take me to the SFO, I realized I had forgotten my phone at The Bistro, but didn't have time to go back. After arriving in Greece almost a full day later, i e-mailed the hotel asking them if they found it and whether they could drop it off at my place of work for when I come back to the States, saying I would be more than willing to compensate them for their trouble. A day after that, I got a response back that they had in fact found it and dropped it off at my work, without asking for anything else. Now that put a huge smile on my face. That alone is worth my recommending the hotel to anyone I know that's going to visit the area and afford a room. On the minus side: WiFi was free and accessible throughout the hotel, although the reception seemed to be a bit spotty at the deep-end of the room, where the desk is at for example, and even on my bed. Not like disconnect-every-now-and-then kind of bad, but speeds tended to fall to 10-20KB/s every once in a while. Getting closer to the door seemed to help. The other minor annoyance was the bathroom lighting. There's no way to just turn on the light in the bathroom without turning on the noisy fan drawing air out of the bathroom to keep it fresh as well, which made the experience unpleasant when I took a shower after a long day while having a headache, or when going to the bathroom in the middle of the night. And then, even with the light on, the bathtub's curtain is completely opaque, blocking most of the light, giving you the option of either being in the dark (slightly), or not pulling the curtain and making it a bad day for the housekeepers tomorrow (which I'd rather not do, and didn't). CONS: June - $339 per night BEFORE TAXES for a room with 2 Double beds though our reservation stated Queen or King bed(s). No complimentary breakfast. Starbucks but does not use the rewards system to earn nor redeem points. THERE IS NO IN-ROOM SAFE AND THEY COME IN AFTER 3PM EVEN WITH A PRIVACY SIGN! (per their sign on your door!!) "Cooler" aka fridge in room that they said is not for milk products because it is not cold enough. PROS: Easy access to 101 and 37. Safeway right behind hotel with a Starbucks that does earn points. read more

I stayed here in late September while on a short business trip. There was a clear race-car theme both in my room and at the restaurant, but I'm not sure if it was temporary. The room was larger than expected. I liked the high ceilings, which were probably around 12". The WiFi was free, although slow and unsecured. Other than a few restaurants and a Safeway nearby (walkable), there is not much else in this area. read more

We chose to stay here on our vacation to San Francisco. I chose it because it offered free parking and was outside of all the city chaos. I am so happy I did. The location was fantastic. It was close enough to the city, plus we got to see a lot of the area we wouldn't have normally seen. The room was clean and spacious. The beds were really comfortable. Stayed here for a night with my girlfriend celebrating our anniversary. Not much to complain about. Place is well maintained and the service is pretty good. People are nice and friendly. Only downside being that they have a non-smoking policy which kind of sucked since we're both major pot smokers, had to result smoking out in the parking lot in my car. I also like how the hotel has many exits, meaning you could leave and re-enter the hotel without the people at the front desk knowing. Found that a little exciting and more private. Definitely would spend the night here again, it's a lovely hotel, pool and hot-tub are awesome. No complimentary breakfast though. read more

My husband and I stayed at the Marriott Hotel in Novato on October 28, 2018 for our son's wedding. The accommodations were outstanding, the suite was very clean and Linda at the front desk was excellent!! She took care of use like we were family. If we needed anything she was happy to get it for us. She always had a smile and remembered our names, why we were there and who we came in with. I would not hesitate to stay in this hotel again. One of the nicer Courtyards I've stayed in. Close to the freeway, Safeway and a very good restaurant. The place is clean and all of the staff I encountered were very helpful and attentive. This property is located pretty close to the Larkspur ferry terminal which will get you to San Francisco. All and all this is a good choice and I will stay here again. read more

Great stay! My family has been a Marriotts member since 2000 so I have stayed at a lot of Marriotts. Although Courtyard is not their top of the line division, this one had the BEST customer service ever. After traveling a long day for work and checking in at 1:30 am the front desk concierge was great and the bed was Very comfortable. The next morning every employee I ran into said hello and asked me how I was in a warm and inviting way. I felt very welcome and comfortable.
