My first time staying here. I checked in at 2:30 pm and was assisted by a polite and helpful lady clerk. She even helped me open my door when I couldn't figure it out. When I came back late around 9 pm after a work meeting, the lady clerk let me in the locked lobby so I could heat up my dinner. Room #6 was perfect and even luxurious for my basic needs. The large bed was filled with soft and plushy sheets, blankets and pillows. I slept like a rock. The spacious room contained cathedral ceilings, large windows with shades, a small futon sitting area, flat screen tv, lots of cabinets and tables, a large heater/air conditioner, and best of all, a jacuzzi/spa bathtub. Parking can be a bit tight but there is enough for guests checked in. The inn was quiet, comfortable and located within walking distance of a multitude of shops and restaurants along Broadway. I recently spent six nights at the Fairfax Inn and loved it. Very clean, big rooms. It's located right downtown where all the fabulous restaurants and live music clubs are. Even though it's so close to the action it's very quite, I was never disturbed by any outside noise. I was there during the most recent 6.1 earthquake and there was no added charge for the early morning ride and excitement. I survived just fine. Everything about this place worked for me. Very comfortable bed, super large tub, big towels, TV and a very nice light breakfast consisting of juice, coffee, toast, buns and so on. The host, Jay Raman was very nice and very accommodating. I enjoyed the place so I extended two more nights and will most def be going back. Also I found Fairfax to be a little jewel. My passions were great place to stay, great resturant options and cycling. It was epic. read more

Location, location, location. Right in the middle of downtown Fairfax. Park your car in the Inn's ample parking and forget it. Proprietress made booking and checking in a breeze. Vaulted ceilings and whirlpool tube make the room particularly inviting. Went out for brunch, so next time I'll have to try the Inn's continental breakfast. read more

We visited in July of 2020, so the property and services were affected by Covid-19 precautions. The property has a great location in the heart of Fairfax. The decor and features of the room were oddly premium, but dated. Maintenance seems largely deferred. With a little more effort, this property could be 5-Star. One of the largest detracting features is a patio area near the front and sidewalk that has become a storage area for broken objects. This area could be a real feature and draw for the property. So, bear with me. I got here while the owner was gone, and her friend was running the store. I had a truck and trailer I could not park there, so she called the owner and asked if I could take up multiple spaces...friendliest lady in the world...the owner said "one room, one space". Nasty response. So I found a friendly business owner that let me park there and got a room. The room, and the grounds, were PHENOMENAL. Although requiring some maintenance, the bed was comfy, the jacuzzi tub large, the grounds had these lounge areas that are PERFECT for summer nights, just a GREAT value for the price. Now I had made it explicitly clear I needed to be gone by 7am. The owner was supposed to be back. You can tell by my tone he wasn't. I waited in the freezing cold for twenty minutes to try and check out of the room, no response to my knocking or ringing of the night bell. So I left my key in the Dropbox and I'm gone, officially late for my morning appointment. The lady before was sweet and personable. I haven't met the owner, but she still managed to make this place suck. I'll let you know if get additional charges for not checking out on time -_- read more

LOCATION (great) Where the action is - right on Broadway between 19 Broadway and the movie theater - can't beat this location. ROOMS (sizeable) The rooms are pretty big and nice. They have jacuzzi bathtubs - ooh la la. We had a king bed and king beds are big. VACATION (itenerary) I like to come here from Sacramento for a weekend getaway. You can hike or mountain bike during the day, hit any of a number of resturants that are within walking distance, and listen to live music at night. It's just a few minute drive to San Rafael, San Anselmo, or Ross. Tennis courts and a small park are two blocks away. It's pretty nice! PRICES (+ discount!) $140 for a regular room. I like the "suite" for $160 - it's a little bigger. Mention their internet ad when you book and receive 10% off. SMALL ISSUES (w/ solutions) (1) The sheets and pillow cases were kind of hard. Solution: bring a pillow case with 600+ thread count. (2) The room has a VCR but not a DVD player. Solution: bring a laptop or DVD player or VHS tapes. (3) Continental Breakfast isn't something to write home about. Solution: go to one of the many breakfast spots within steps of the Fairfax Inn (try Good Earth's breakfast bar). ED K. Not sure why Ed K. was so hard on this place. I'm sure the housekeeping staff isn't cackling in the corner with the hoarded bath towel. They'd probably even give you a couple extra if you ask nicely. read more

This little gem of a hotel is our lifesaver in Marin County. We make frequent trips to the Bay Area for business and pleasure and this is the only place we want to be. The rooms are comfortable and clean, some with whirlpool tubs. It's quiet, charming, affordable, and the location is unbeatable. Parking in the ground floor spaces can be tight, so choose a smaller vehicle to arrive in if you can. There's a nice seating area on the upper floor where you can look at beautiful arching oak trees that surround the place. If you have business anywhere in Marin County, it's worth the extra drive to Fairfax to stay here; with central access to coffee shops, restaurants, movie theaters, and the great outdoors, it's a mini vacation. read more

This is the shittiest, nastiest place you can stay in. AC, Lights don't work in the rooms. WiFi is not available in rooms as advertised. Place is really dirty. The stuff they have for breakfast is old, stale, and gross. The owner sucks. When i told them of the problems were having they just completely ignored us. When I called the owner hang up on me. This used to be a very fine place to stay. I hadn't stayed there in about 3-4 years. I was very surprised at the disrepair. Seems it may have changed owners and the new management does not pay attention to details. I think it needs to be remodeled, needs new blankets, pillows were poor. read more

We stayed here for two nights and loved it! Our wedding party took most of the rooms and between the friendly and very helpful staff, the quality of the rooms and the great outdoor patio/hangout area, we were very impressed and pleasantly surprised, given the low ball by some of the other reviewers. One thing - they charge per person for the rooms so two couples sharing a room is nearly as expensive as just getting two rooms. Luckily that wasn't our case - we had our two small children and there was no add'l charges. Cute room with Jacuzi tub, fireplace, comfortable bed, ceiling fan. Centrally located to two great eateries: Barefoot Cafe and Fradelizio's Ristorante Italiano. Don't let the "cafe" part fool you, the Barefoot Cafe is a top-notch restaurant. Why do I mention food when the Fairfax Inn is considered a B&B? Because their breakfast consists of cold cereal, toast or bagel, and juice. Not much. Housekeeping could be more attentive too. In our two-night stay, they shorted us a bath towel, and we had to ask for more TP. read more

THE NOISE IS UNBEARABLE. I wanted to stay in a nice little town in marin instead of the hustle & bustle of SF. So I found the Fairfax inn on expedia. Its a quiant little town with some restaurants etc. When I checked in the lady at the front desk (I think she lives there) nicely told me the room I booked through expedia was not available on one of the nights I booked it. So she would put us in a different room. Then she said theres a bar next door & you can hear the music. We were a little hesitant but accepted the room as there is no others available in this little town. She gave us the keys to room #1 ( the devils room) .The room seemed nice & pretty clean a while later the smoke detector would go off intermittently. I went to the front desk but no one was ther only a sign saying back in 30 minutes. At 9:30 the music started, it was sooo loud it vibrated the lamps & windows in the room just like when a car with the huge woofer shakes everything. Then the band at the bar on the other side of the room started playing some bad local garage music it just got worse. Its litterally was sonic torture. At 1:30 am I got up & went into the bar & asked 3 times for them to turn the music down....nope on it went until 2:00 am. then the drunks exited the 2 bars with 15 feet of our room with the requisite hooting & hollering. & car alarms etc. I think at about 3:00am I dozed off. The next morning I was pissed off & took pictures of the unmaintained grounds (see photos). Told the manager how bad it was & she sort of laughed with embarrasment but offered no remedy. Shame on the inn keeper for putting us in that room (that wasnt the one I booked) & shame on expedia for promoting this place. Even the guests in the rear of the building were complaining of the late night rukus. The Breakfast is pre-packaged danish or cheerios. read more

I was very excited to stay at the Fairfax Inn. Fairxax is a beautiful little town about an hour northwest of SF. There is a great little downtown street, live music and all sorts of hikes and fun outdoor stuff nearby. Sounds like the perfect weekend place to spend in a cozy B&B, right? Unfortunately this is really a Super 8 masquerading as a B&B. The lady who runs the place really could not have been more rude. I'm fine with that paying $40 at the Super 8. At $120 for one night, not so much. The rooms could be fine but really haven't been decorated. The rooms aren't the problem though. The woman running the place is obnoxious for no apparent reason. I thought it was odd that the woman was so short with me at check-in. Double checks my ID, very demanding and basically barking orders at me. Umm, really? Aren't I paying you? Next she is really rude while serving a nasty breakfast, which might as well have been plastic. Finall, despite the fact we were the only couple staying in the place, we get our first call to leave the room at - I kid you not - 11:03am. Then housekeeping gets sent up at 11:10. I've had a warmer reception from a repo agency. I highly recommend Fairfax and the whole weekend away. Just stay someplace else! read more

Charming town, charming staff, charming room, from large bathing towels, not the little towels that you cant get around your waist, my husband is 6 feet 5 ,,these towels worked for him,, high ceilings , ceiling fan , hand made comforters and pillow cases , large sun deck you can bring up your breakfast and coffee and enjoy the patio outside , stay in the cozy cafe and enjoy the people who are staying there. We met lots of nice people here. I would come here again, and the owner is exceptionally nice too. We were treated wonderfully . Cant thank them enough for our stay ,,and it was 5 days. Cleaning service was great too,,,also had 2 robes hanging in closet to use ,,after your jacuzzi. Treat people how you would like to be treated ,,and its all good!!! read more

LOVE this place! Not only is it the only hotel IN the town of Fairfax, but the last guy was right - location, location, location. We chose this place for our prime location for the stay for ourselves, our friends and our families during our wedding (which was right up the road). Literally we walked everywhere - to breakfast, to the rehearsal, to the bars! This place has a great upper patio deck which was great at night for hanging out with the late night crowd after our bar adventures. Also, we had lots of families with kids (who loved snorkeling in the giant bathtubs!). The owners are really nice and very accommodating - great, kind-hearted people. They are true to their word and very polite. Would definitely stay here again and will likely stop by just to say hi anytime I am in the Fairfax area!
