Loved staying in the mansion suite!! Yes it was pricey but honestly we never do things like this without our kids so we had a lot to celebrate. Walking in I was so confused how it looks so modern for such an old building but very well taken care of. The views were incredible of the whole bay (some harbor view but most is just the open water). They let us extend checkout time no prob and we were left a bottle of wine and birthday card per my request to do something special for my husbands birthday. The parking is a bit of a trek, down a steep hill on the hillsides and then you get your steps in going up all the stairs! But it's stunning and if money were no object. We would love to stay here again. My partner and I stayed in one of the two premium suites at Casa Madrona Hotel & Spa, and unfortunately the experience did not match the price point or the expectations. The view from our suite was beautiful, but that was the only part of our stay that felt worthy of the "best room" category. Service throughout the entire town was disappointing, and the hotel was no exception. Staff consistently seemed irritated by even simple requests and frequently hung up on us when we called the front desk. There is no microwave, no room service, and our suite required climbing roughly 70 steps each time we went up or down. Valet drivers operated recklessly, and retrieving our luggage required multiple calls before we finally asked for our keys and handled it ourselves. When they brought our car around, my partner was so concerned by the way they drove it that she photographed her rims. Dining in town was equally frustrating. Servers rushed us, were not attentive, and didn't offer dessert -- we had to ask several times. We're the type of people who enjoy long, relaxed meals with multiple courses, drinks, and dessert, but everything felt hurried and dismissive. DoorDash drivers didn't want to deliver to the hotel, and when they did, the food arrived cold. Overall, the amenities were lacking, the service was rude, and the entire experience made us feel like an inconvenience. For the price of one of the top suites, we expected at least decent hospitality. This is not a place we would return to, nor did it offer the relaxing experience we were hoping for. A fantastic experience with matched service! Every staff member we encountered offered service with a smile (shout out to Glen, the valet!). This hotel has a spa service with a sunny lounge area to relax. The rooms with balconies have awesome views of the wharf and beautiful light. This hotel is nice-ish but not worth the price. I feel the description of the room was misleading. We stayed in the Hillside Cottage with Balcony room. Pros: The hotel has a gorgeous view of the harbor. This is what you are paying for. If you are visiting California for the first time or haven't seen a lot of the California coastline, then I can see how the view would be worth the price of the room. We are Bay Area locals and have seen this view a hundred times, so while it was nice it was not worth the price. The room itself is very nice and clean, and there is a huge shower inside the bathroom. We enjoyed people watching from the small balcony outside of the room. It is easy to walk to shops, restaurants, and the harbor. Cons: When I booked this room, the description made me think is was going to be a private, somewhat secluded, and romantic room. They call it a "cottage," and an, "intimate hillside retreat" in the description. They warn it is only accessible through multiple stairs. None of this is true. It is a hotel room with a small balcony. You have neighbors on every side. You try to not make eye contact with the people in nearby rooms who are enjoying their private balconies. The room is right on and faces the main street, so it is loud and bright all day and night long. Street lights shine directly into the bedroom and you hear traffic all night. There is no keeping the windows open while trying to sleep, which led to a hot, stuffy room. The room faces east and the was bright as day as soon as the sun rose, even through the blackout shades. Between the sun and traffic noise, there was no sleeping in past 6am. The bed was very uncomfortable, felt every spring in my hips and back. Like others have mentioned, the staff is not very friendly or helpful. No room service and no microwave. Overall, pretty hotel in a pretty area. However it is not private, not romantic, not comfortable, very loud and bright, and it is waaaay overpriced for what it is. read more

It was fine. My alarm went off at 6am without me setting it. Then the cleaning lady was banging on my door at 9:30am waking me up again. I should have put the dnd up! I was on the third floor and the smell from the eucalyptus at the spa was overpowering. The EO shampoo/conditioner/soap was just okay. The lavender smell would have been better than the one provided. You have to go to the fourth floor to fill your water bottle. The gym is tiny. The deep tissue massage was pretty awful. They were able to get me in on a cancellation, but the overall experience was disappointing. There is no pool. The lounge areas are small. The location is great! The bed was comfortable. The room was large. Definitely not a luxury hotel, but good if you want a comfortable place to stay in the middle of everything. read more

The Bad: exorbitant pricing for subpar room size and quality (about $600/night). -- keycards failed to open the door a few times, and they had to be 'refreshed'/re-magnetized or something. -- no microwave -- tiny mini-fridge that made the cabinet in which it was housed feel like a sauna -- 'harborview' 'cottage'. as another reviewer mentioned, there are huge trees that block the views. and i don't know what yall think a 'cottage' is, but the images and wording on their site suggest secluded, no shared walls, no multiple staircases for access, etc. it's basically the worst combination of... you can still hear neighbors (except you can also hear other non-adjacent neighbors, roof parties) and it's not accessible via the elevator and a brief, stair-less walk. the main waterfront road (bridgeway) is right under your nose/room, so you can definitely hear and maybe smell the people/traffic noises/related odors. -- balcony was small and had no light -- towels had disgusting stains (see photos) -- bathroom shower barely drained (see photos) -- (note) per their policy they also offer pet-friendly rooms (another $100) but it doesn't include anything other than a crate if requested. most higher-end establishments offer treats, luxury bedding, toys, waste bags, etc. ---- Staff was nice, but did not offer to address the issues we encountered other than refreshing the keycards for basic room access. if we saw the towel/shower stuff before near midnight we absolutely would've left before staying the night. One person at the front desk started our checkout process, seemingly went attention-offline during, and the other front desk person had to tell us that we were 'good to go'. a pointless 'sorry about that' when we told them about the towel stains and non-draining shower, among other things... no offer to make it right. not that we would return... and not that you/anyone should patronize this place, ever (again). read more

Perfect location! Walking distance to restaurants, bars, cafes and ferry terminal. There is a small gym and a spa onsite. You definitely receive great service from the front desk team. Everyone was very pleasant. An amazing view from the common areas and back parking lot. I like that they allow pets for a fee and provide water and chocolate chip cookies upon check in. The firepits are a nice touch also. The hotel is pricey if you stay on a Saturday. I'd stay again but try to go during the week (if not a special occasion) to save a bit more on the rate. I will definitely be back again and hopefully have time to get a spa treatment. read more

I'm not giving five stars because we paid $520 for the one night plus the $100 pet fee and this place has no amenities other than a spa that cost to go to. The room didn't even have a microwave. We booked the harborview king room that had a balcony. It was nice enough, but the huge trees in front of the property. You could only see the harbor if you looked to your far left or far left or right. Nothing directly in front of you. Staff was nice. We would probably come back maybe in the slow season. I would give this place a 3.5 if that were an option. This place is really nice, very clean, but service here was subpar. We were told the gym was open until 10pm, but it was locked well before then. We were also told the spa was open until 7pm, but every time we went to check it out, there was nobody at the spa desk to talk to or schedule with. Multiple times the keys to our room quit working, and we would be locked out. It was not fun to walk to the front desk (that is open to the outside/street) in a robe after leaving the steam room. The hotel seems a bit understaffed, as often the person working at the front desk was in and out working on other tasks. It is very close to many restaurants, and parking is very simple. The yoga class offered on Sunday was also very nice, and well run with everything provided. However, the kitchen area that is connected it to it was in use, which was an interruption to a calming yoga practice. The yoga instructor asked them to quiet down, and they did, but it seems there is maybe some lack of communication for that to have happened. The yoga instructor was very kind and qualified, and the view from the yoga room is great. The good-fabulous location right in the heart of town so you can walk to the coast, shopping, wine and food! I felt like the property was a little older but still beautiful and charming. We had such a lovely experience at Casa Madrona. We discovered this hotel from Passport Heavy's Youtube channel & wanted to check it out. My fiancé treated me to Napa for my birthday & we stayed here for two nights. The location is pretty central in Sausalito. There are tons of restaurants in walking distance from the property. It is a little difficult to find the parking lot. However, the front desk provides maps to help you navigate. We were on the top floor so we actually had to walk all of our luggage up the stairs. The hotel is very unique and has some hidden seating areas with fountains for you to relax outside. The room was spacious and provided us with a view of the marina. The water pressure in the shower was perfect. They also provided us with a complimentary bottle of bubbles. Casa Madrona is also about an hour from Napa Valley which was extremely convenient for our wine tasting & dinner reservations. I would definitely recommend this property! read more

Terrible customer service provided by front desk. Upon entering our room, I knew immediately this was not the room I booked. My reservation noted the room I booked was a "Hillside Cottage Suite". I called the front desk and it was the guy who checked me in and he lacked customer service skills as a front desk agent. When I went down to get my keys, he just handed them to me and did not explain where the room was so we had to ask the parking attendants who were kind enough to show us where to go. The room was nice and fairly clean besides a couple hairs dried onto hand towels. Around 10 pm, there was some noise outside from things being dumped into something and conversation. When we went to check out, the told us we had $100 upgrade fee. This was not explained when they gave us the room we originally reserved. Again, the agent and the guest services manager did not seem apologetic of the situation. They said the room rate code transferred over as a "Hillside Cottage". I understand this can happen if not booked directly as I've worked in a sales office at a hotel before. What I don't understand is the lack of compassion and empathy and the actual blame I felt they put on me for not booking directly. The guest services manager finally told me they can cut the upgrade fee in half but not give us the full $100 refund because we got a "jr suite" which is actually better than the "cottage suite". I knew he was lying because the photos matched the photos of the cottage suite, but I just wanted to get out of there at that point because it was just becoming a displeasing situation. My husband and I stayed in Hillside guest cottage at Casa Madrona hotel, and spa for three nights during our wedding celebration - the bachelorette party, which we held in the neighboring hillside guesthouse where my friends stayed, rehearsal dinner night, and wedding day/night which included hair and make up for 10 to 15 people prior to the wedding in the hillside guest house,. It was a beautiful space. Victoria and Bernadette did a great job managing our stay as well as the block of rooms for our wedding guests. The views from the suite are stunning. The sunroom was a perfect place for make up. There was plenty of space for three hair stations and enough room for hanging around drinking champagne in between beauty treatments. The valet service to bring us up and down the hill was super helpful and the valet's were all so polite and kind. Our wedding guests stayed mostly in Bay view with balcony rooms. The balconies have a table and chair chairs with a spectacular view. All of the guests were thrilled with their stay. Many of us ate at Poggio during the wedding week. It's conveniently located at the base of the hotel right along the quaint part of Bridgeway in downtown Sausalito. Poggio serve delicious food, good wine, street side tables right out of Italy. We hosted our wedding with about fifty guests at Casa Madrona in May (ceremony in Junto ballroom; reception in Alexandrite suite), and couldn't have been happier with how it went. All of the staff we interacted with were very friendly, helpful, and accommodating. I especially want to thank Victoria for helping answer all of our initial questions while we were making our decision, and then Amber, who did a great job helping us plan out all of the details, and then was there on the day as well, and made sure it went perfectly. And it definitely did: The views were amazing. The actual event rooms were fantastic too. Plus all of the set-up and tear-down and logistics and whatnot was all handled seamlessly, at least from our perspective, so we were able to purely focus on enjoying the day. Worth noting that they have a contract with Poggio, a restaurant attached in the same building, to provide all of the food for their events. For us this was a bonus: the food was excellent, and having the two businesses so used to working together really takes one major headache out of the planning equation. We also booked several rooms in the "mansion" for two nights for us and our families, so had some experience with it as an actual hotel as well... again, we really couldn't have been much happier. The rooms were spacious, clean, well-outfitted, and beautifully-decorated. There was an issue with the air conditioning in one room, so they moved two guests to a different room and completely refunded that room, which was really appreciated. Picking Casa Madrona as the venue for our wedding was the first decision we made in a very long series of decisions to plan the wedding, but it may have been the best one we made! read more

A very so-so experience. The good for us: - Pet friendly. The nearest grass is a nearby park, it's not terribly far but is still maybe a 5min walk. - nice location The not so good for us: - the harbor view room we booked was significantly smaller than the photo online. They have a lot of rooms listed as 400sq feet so I wouldn't trust the true size of any of them. The depiction in the photo of that room had significantly more space around the bed than ours did in reality. The closet had half the storage of a normal one since there was a large 3ft tall portion of the wall jutting out into it. - The harbor view rooms face the street and it turns out the city collects trash daily between 5 and 6am. Needless to say, that wasn't a welcome bit of info to find out the hard way. - The hotel doesn't really have any amenities besides a spa if you choose to book something at it. There's no in-house restaurant or convenience options, which is a bummer in a place where everything closes at 9pm. read more

I was worried about my decision to book a night here after reading the reviews but I thought it was beautiful. I did let them know it was a special occasion so maybe that's why we got such beautiful rooms? The views from both of our rooms were phenomenal. The balcony was roomy, I loved I could open all the windows and feel the breeze come in. The robes and slippers were appreciated and well, I just didn't want to leave. I splurged on doing valet parking but my BFF just parked in a lot across the street. So you have options. They give you bottled water and we got a bottle of wine as well. I stayed at this property and woke up to gnats flying in the room and ants taking over the bathroom countertops. For the price per night it was disappointing. Yes, they are located within walking distance of eateries and shops, but I couldn't feel comfortable when sleeping knowing there were bugs. Gave us room 201 that looked like it was located in a back alley and it was freezing cold. The layout was weird. Heater was above the bed and made a lot of noise so it was hard to fall asleep. The fireplace didn't warm up the room so we were cold during our stay. There were also ants in the bathroom. Not sure if we'll be back as there are other hotels in the area to try next time. Pictures online was a bit deceiving. We didn't want to complain as we were just there for an overnight and it could have impacted our already great vacation. First the gentleman out front was full of smiles and warm greetings(wish I had caught his name), but on duty 2/18 and 2/19 earlier in the day. Then Deverrick (sorry if it's misspelled) also full of smiles and genuine, warm friendliness. I'd come back just for the staff, but the hotel was also very very nice. Excellent location, across from the water. Awesome view of the SF Bay; this hotel is walking distance to a lot of shops and restaurants. Plenty of street parking -3 hr parking limit between 9 and 6p and Tues, Thurs and Sat --no paring between 4-7am. The hotel was clean and modern. Staff was extremely pleasant and gave us a nice room with a bay view. We also had a nice balcony with couple of outdoor chaise. Nice hotel curtains, we slept like babies. My only suggestion would be to have more available sockets that are close to the bed, maybe changing their bathroom tiles as it looks worn and putting the trash can in the toilet room where it should be. I was so excited to stay here! I booked the "Hillside Cottage" room. You can see in the pictures attached what I thought the room was going to look like vs. what we actually got. I know they said the rooms could vary, but our room looked NOTHING like what was advertised. I called the front desk, and their solution was to offer me more towels... no I don't care about having more towels, I'd rather have a discount? This room was not worth the $500 a night, they should have accurate pictures as the room we got should have been more like $200/$300. You can tell by the pic, the room had NO view of the ocean at all, even though they called it a "partial view". SO disappointed. read more

I was so excited to stay here; a "luxurious" hotel, in one of my favorite cities, we paid extra for a "private" hillside cottage suite, it was going to be a quiet, serene and relaxing getaway. Unfortunately, it was anything but... When checking in, the front desk asked me if I needed help with ours bags so I asked him where the room was. He explained you take the elevator to the 4th floor and then walk up 2 flights to the cottage so I knew with a carload of items I would need help, which I'm glad he offered! We get to the room and start checking things out, the bathroom was alright, nice big tub but one of those cold European showers, and the windows looked dingy but it was ok. The living room space was ok, nice big window with a beautiful view of the bay, but tiny and hard little couch, and then a small mini square fridge. I had packed some food assuming in a cottage suite we might have more of a half-sized fridge where we could store some food as we were staying for 4 days - apparently not. The deck was the best part, I would've stayed out there all day until I heard the upstairs cottage check in and oh, look, they're right above me staring down at me. The lady like 4 feet away says hello and tries chatting with me for a bit - so awkward! I'm sorry, I'm here to get away and relax and there is someone right above me? Mind you, when I called the hotel to book this room I was sold on the very expensive upgrade because it was a private cottage not attached to the main house. They should have mentioned you are attached to a cottage right above you. The room was fine, decent sized room, Nespresso in the room for coffee, nice views - the room was good. That was until we took as nice afternoon nap (for those of you with kids, you know this is a vacation only kinda thing) and just as we were dozing off THUMP THUMP THUMP! The family upstairs had young children and they were playing out on the deck - their wood deck was our ceiling!!! Oh no... my husband looked and me and we both just shook our head. So... no nap. And I get it, we have kids too, you want to let them play but I would have NEVER booked that room knowing the deck above was our ceiling. Oh also, I mentioned there was a nespresso but there were no mugs! I get because of COVID that services are restricted (no room cleaning) but don't take the coffee mugs! We made coffee in those dinky little plastic cups that felt like they were going to melt through. Very luxurious For the next 2 days we tried to be out of the room as much as possible, just tried to enjoy the city and good local seafood. But 2 ruined naps and 2 early mornings was enough, we decided to cut our trip a day short. I'd rather be home than staying in this hotel. I had tried to call on our first day there and was told the manager would call me back about the room issue but they never did. So when I called to check out a day early the manager was there, I explained the issues we had and that I had called the day before, she explained that since I had pre-paid that she would be able to refund me the day we were not staying which I would assume is expected, why would I pay for a night I'm not there? Ok, rant over, but seriously, unless you're wanting to throw your money away, don't care about a fancy hotel and just want the good location - don't stay here! read more

When we walked in we weren't greeted with any warmth at all, in fact it felt like we were a bit of an imposition to the front desk team. I booked a room with the impression our room might have some view, or there was a public space to enjoy the view, but neither were correct. Unless you book a balcony you will not have a bay view. Also the beautiful pictures of a view with a fire pit? Off limits unless you book their event space. Good to know. Also good to know was the fact I had to drag my heavy suitcase up a few flights of stairs to get to my room. The room itself was nice, the bed was very comfortable. The shower never had hot water, even after asking for assistance. We were also provided one towel for a room with a king bed. Overall, the stay was ok, but I feel that they lean in on the nice parts of the hotel with views which isn't representative of what is available. Maybe the advertising could be clearer? They did provide water and snacks in the room which was a nice touch, but for the price, and the resort fee (for what?), I'm not sure the product justified the cost. read more

Casa Madrona is a wonderful boutique hotel in Sausalito, located extremely close to the heart of Sausalito's main tourist area and boasts amazing views of the Bay. We walked around the hotel, which goes extremely high up the hill with many different styles of rooms and mansion suites. We got a top floor ocean view room with spectacular views off the outdoor balcony of Tiburon, Angel Island, Alcatraz, and SF! We were lucky to get a room during COVID times and felt pretty safe in the room. The hotel provides many sanitizer stations and encourages face mask wearing. Our room was extremely clean upon arrival. The bed was clean and comfortable, the bathroom was luxurious, and the balcony, although small, was cozy and enjoyable to sit and take in the views. We sat outside on the balcony to sightsee, eat snacks, drink wine, work, and read. A few not so pleasant things - The check-in process took extremely long, mainly because the person infront took a long time. Several times coming in and out of the hotel, there wasn't much greeting from front desk people, which is okay, but not extremely warm. Also, no breakfast or snacks were provided. Not sure if that's normal for this hotel or just due to COVID. The internet connection in our room was not that great. I had trouble connecting at first and it was somewhat spotty. Overall, we had a great, quiet, and peaceful stay. It is definitely a special hotel to indulge in Sausalito. read more

Great location but the hotel is tired, for paying same rates as 4/5 star hotels with none of the amenities not sure I'd stay here again. Front desk could have been friendlier, then when asking for some room service items of wine/cheese never got them. Spa was closed while we were there. Hotel just seems tired as the rooms do too. Location was good for walking everywhere though. read more
