Two weeks ago when we stayed over for a mini getaway in Ottawa ...we booked our hotel stay at the Courtyard Marriott Ottawa East They are located in the east part of Ottawa nearby the Railyards and right next to the Ottawa Titans ball diamond and are right off the 417 The hotel is well kept and clean inside Staff there are super friendly from the front desk to the maids Our room was clean and tidy Bed was super comfortable Only two things that needed improvement Towels were a bit rough on the skin And the hot tub on the upper level.... It had way too much chlorine in the tub to the point where it was burning your eyes Otherwise I would definitely come to stay here again for another stay in Ottawa read more

We went the past two days for a little getaway in Ottawa-Gatineau We decided to book and stay at the Courtyard Marriott Ottawa East It's near the Trainyards district in Ottawa and right across from the Ottawa Titans ballpark Upon arriving we were greeted by their reception and check-in was a breeze The hotel is super clean inside Hallways in the hotel are clean The rooms match the hallways Super clean and tidy Spacious is what I was really surprised with Big open common area We got the king bed suite There is a kitchenette with a sink and fridge The bathroom is spacious with a tub Only thing I would suggest is the towels are a bit rough Sandpaperish but otherwise nothing else We went to the pool at the top floor where there is also a hot tub and a fitness centre It's small but big enough to enjoy and has a nice view as well of the city Overall the hotel was great No issues Would definitely come back to stay here again in Ottawa for another weekend getaway read more

I wanted to like you, Courtyard by Marriott Ottawa East. I really did. But there were just enough things that were a letdown that this property is a fairly confident 3.5-4 star rating. Rooms/Property: - They are dated. Hopefully, no one is taking their wife here for their anniversary night. The rooms have probably not been updated for 15 or more years. - The elevators... it would sometimes take several minutes of waiting for one to come, and then you were stuck on it when it stopped on every floor up/down. Just annoying enough when you want to move bags downstairs, and need to take a couple of rides. - The AC in the gym did not work well. It was almost 30 degrees Celsius in there. Staff: - Every staff member we encountered kicked ass. They were all awesome and the star of the show. Every person working at the property should get a pay raise. Location: - We used this hotel as a launch point for our visit to Ottawa. It was a very short drive, even in traffic, to get to all of the tourist sites. The short answer: stay here. It's comfortable and the price is right. For the last three visits to Ottawa, I have stayed at different hotels. It takes me a while to find a hotel and part of town that I dig such that I want to stay there every time. I have found it with this Courtyard hotel in east Ottawa. Its location is awesome. It's off highway 417. Getting anywhere, especially downtown Ottawa for touristy things, is close. Blink and you're there. I like that everything is nearby. Next door is Raymond Chabot Grant Thornton Park. It's a mouthful, but a wonderful baseball park for the Ottawa Titans, a minor league team. I got a nice view of it every day and took in a game the first full day of my recent stay. So many of my favourite places to shop, eat, and drink are all within driving distance. Heck, you could even walk to the Starbucks close by. For the avid shopper, you are in heaven. The Ottawa Trainyards are nearby, which includes GAP, LL Bean, Old Navy, Michaels, Skechers Outlet, and more. St. Laurent Shopping Centre is nearby if you crave hitting a mall. If you need a broken zipper on a jacket replaced, Stitch It is awesome and did a great job when I needed it fixed on a cold November day. The hotel has The Bistro. It offers a breakfast buffet and is open fairly late at night (11 pm). The buffet is $23. Breakfast is not included with your hotel rate. I ended up skipping it and making breakfast in my room. The room has a mini kitchenette that contains a mini fridge, coffee maker, microwave, and sink. There are many good places to eat nearby. Kettleman's Bagel has always had my heart. I don't remember not having a bagel of breakfast when I'm in town. There are other cool places to dine at, such as Silk Road Kabab House, Mucho Burrito, The Chopped Leaf, The Magic Fryer (a food truck in front of Canadian Tire), and more. I felt like I ate my way through my stay and made a small dent. I parked my car in front of the hotel and checked in, bringing my luggage and backpack with me. A nice woman greeted me. She told me that her middle name was Mary. Cool! She thought that I had stayed here before. Nope. I got a quick overview of everything. I had a package sent to my hotel. It was placed in my room, which is typically rare. Normally, you fetch it from the front desk. I had another package arrive days later. I got a call and the woman said that she'd send someone "up immediately to deliver your package." Insane customer service! You do need a parking permit from this hotel. There is indoor and outdoor parking. Indoor parking requires using your room card to access it after 10 pm. The hotel shares parking with the Conference Centre. Parking is colour-coded. Hotel guests park in the yellow area. To attend a conference at the centre, park where it's red. Outdoor parking is more of a pain. You have to register your car every 72 hours. Don't bother. Park indoors and use the elevator to get to your room. It's easier. To use the elevator, you need to use your room card to scan the sensor and press your floor number. This hotel has floor 13. This number doesn't freak me or Taylor Swift out. If it does for you, move on. Floor 15 is the top floor that has a whirlpool, pool, fitness centre, and laundry. I normally do laundry, but decided to skip it and enjoy being a tourist. The machines use loonies and you get complimentary detergent. You need your room card to access all areas on this floor. I loved staying here. My room was spacious. My king-sized bed was comfortable with lots of pillows. I liked the sofa that is also a pull-out bed. Air conditioning was highly effective. If you sit on the sofa, you are practically in front of the vent. I was there often to eat and watch TV. You do need to bring USB adapters. There aren't a whole lot of USB port. I have chargers handy because they typically charge your devices faster than using the USB ports directly. The bathroom was insane. I had two showers. I don't need two. It's one Mary. I actually used both. The one with the glass door didn't shut properly. The other one with the fabric shower curtain was my go-to. The water pressure was excellent. You get shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner. The sink has a long handle. I swivelled it around to have it point upwards to solve this issue. There was lots of counter space for my toiletries. The closet had more that enough hangers for my clothing. I used the luggage rack, too. I didn't sit at the desk at all. Instead, I placed my stuff on it. Perfect! A couple of weird things happen during my stay: - On Sunday, a staff member knocked on and rattled the door next to my room so violently that it woke me up just before 9 am. Clearly, the person had the security deadbolt on. I opened the door and let the staffer know that he had woken me up. I don't think his actions were warranted on a early Sunday morning. - There was hammering on a Tuesday morning at 8 am for an hour. Just odd. I'd stay here again. (234) read more

September 26/2021: This was a disappointing experience. Although this is a nice LOOKING hotel it was lacking some serious maintenance. The parking garage was littered with half used construction materials & way to dark. The lobby was nice & clean but it appeared to be window dressing. The elevators opened to a maintenance room that was stacked with semi-used construction materials as well. The room itself was good but there was either a leak or someone had spilled a great deal of moisture in our room. There was a significant wet spot under the desk in our room that I stepped in wearing socks. I mentioned this to the front desk & what was surprising was they weren't surprised! The hotel did give me a $20.00 discount but we'd unpacked by the time we discovered the wet spot & decided not to move like they offered. All this combined makes this a 2-Star! read more

Great hotel located very close to Byward market and the downtown area. I recommend using a uber to get downtown since they only cost about $10 Canadian one way, especially if you plan to indulge in Happy hour. The service staff here is wonderful. There is underground parking for your vehicles. The hotel rooms are large and I found the beds very comfoftable. I like firm beds and the mattresses filled the bill perfectly. Housekeeping kept up with the mess we made. The gym room here is pretty big, plenty of equipment and there is also a pool and hot tub. My two big gripes in this place are slow elevators and a bathroom faucet handle that prevents you from placing your face close to the basin. Good not great. I'll split this review into 4 areas, as not all parts of this stay were less than pleasant. The actual hotel: The hotel was very nice. The lobby had a lot of open-spaced couches, chairs and a nice conference center and business center. Unfortunately actually getting to the front of the hotel seemed to be a mission for almost the entire week. There were multiple large trucks, pretty much permanently in front of the entrance to the parking garage and actual hotel. This made ride pickup/dropoff very difficult, as well as parking to get into the building after a long night out (these trucks were still there past 11pm). The front desk staff: Almost a 50/50 split of good and bad. Prior to my stay here, I'd been in communication with the hotel staff, and wanted to ensure the POSSIBILITY of a room upgrade was at least existent, since I'm a Gold Elite Member (hence eligible for a free upgrade IF available). I am completely aware of the fact, this is based on availability. I'd communicated with the staff 2 weeks before my stay, 1 week before, and a few days, and at that point it seemed like an upgrade was possible. Upon check-in, it was not. This wasn't my issue, as there is a very real possibility the day before, or day of my stay, someone booked the remaining suites. What I did confirm upon check-in (I was staying 3 nights total) was that an upgrade WAS available for my last night there. As I was constantly entering/exiting the hotel due to a conference, I'd frequently check in with the different front desk staff. I was told/confirmed an upgrade was available the night before, and the morning of, and told to stop by between 11am-1pm as they had to clean the room. Completely reasonable, so I packed up all my belongings, went down to the front desk around 1pm only to find out there were no upgrades available. This is my issue. There actually WAS, and I'd come home at lunch during that day specifically to pack up and switch rooms. The evening of my final night there, the person I originally spoke to saw I looked upset and asked if I needed anything. I explained the situation, and she confirmed there was a suite upgrade available, but at that point, it was close to 8-9pm and I'd already unpacked everything and that was my final night there, but the inconsistency was very frustrating and time wasting. The cleanliness (or lack thereof): My stay was on a Tuesday to Friday, so 3 nights total. After a long commute to Ottawa, I'd gone out the first night, then went to the gym (very clean gym, as well as the pool and hot tub). I did what some people do when exhausted on vacation - go straight to sleep without showering. The next morning I pulled all the sheets off the bed onto the floor and left the towels on the ground, only to come back to the room around 5-6pm the next day (was at a conference all day) to find all my towels/sheets still on the floor. I'd asked the front desk if my room was still on the list to be cleaned, only to find out this specific location "only cleans the rooms on Mondays and Fridays". Hence, I had to sleep on dirty/smelly sheets for 2 more nights. Now, I completely understand these were dirty because of me, however at all other Marriott's I've stayed at (and yes these were during 2021/2022) they did daily/nighty cleaning, or would send cleaners upon request. Fresh towels were brought up, but they wouldn't take my old ones and hence by the end of the trip I had a pile of towels in the corner of the room. The restauraunt: Probably the shining star of this hotel IMHO. The tables were socially distanced quite nicely, and space itself was massive and our second night there we brought a very large group with short notice, and they easily accommodated all of us with very fast and efficient service. The waiters and bartenders were amazing. We were initially disappointed as their cocktail list only had 4 items on it, however both the waiters and bartenders had said something along the lines of "if you can describe it, we can make it" and they easily did make every request we had, noting which items they'd have to substitute if necessary. Their burgers and apps were cooked perfectly, and again very fast service. read more

I was not very impressed with this hotel. The staff was not very helpful and the parking options were poor. I had specifically booked (and payed extra for) a room with a balcony to enjoy the view from outside in early August when it wasn't cold yet. When I get to the room and attempt to open the balcony I find that the door is locked with a key I don't have, and I have to call hotel maintenance to unlock it. While he was able to unlock it, the door became stuck open and I was forced to sleep with a slightly open door that I had to move the couch in front of to keep from bursting all the way open in the middle of the night. Not the worst hotel experience I've had, but it certainly could be better! read more

Was on a business trip to Ottawa and family tagged along. We stayed on 13th floor overlooking the baseball field below and view was fantastic! The room size is generous and was clean. The beds comfortable, but pillows - NOT. Too soft. The bathroom had a shower and a bath tub and was of fair size and clean. The maids were friendly and helpful. The underground parking is not at par. The lanes are bit tight and the exit (and entry) is quite steep. When you exit the underground you almost blind of the traffic on the parking road. Very weird. The Wi-Fi very strong no matter what tim of the day and where you are. Would definitely come back, if in Ottawa The pool and gym on the 15th floor is good. If you are looking for an affordable hotel near downtown Ottawa, this is your place. The rooms seem to have been upgraded recently. The bathrooms are larger than other courtyards I have been to with both a stand up shower and a normal tub. The only weird part is the parking. There is an underground parking around, with a very steep incline/decline. However, it is complimentary. No complimentary breakfast though. read more

This is a cautionary tale about how a five-star hotel gets a two-star rating. It is somewhat relevant that the hotel is in Canada and I live in the US. I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Ottawa East in April for a business trip. When I returned home I realized I left two items in my room (shorts and tank top used in the gym). I immediately called the hotel. I got the voicemail for the housekeeping manager and left a message. I received a call back the next day from someone who did not provide a name or that they were from the hotel asking for a credit card to send my items back. I'm not about to hand over my credit card number without knowing how much they're going to charge so I called back, left another voicemail for the housekeeping manager, and got another call back from yet someone else who said it would be at least $40. At this point I called Marriott customer service, who put me in touch with someone at the front desk named Ruth. I explained to Ruth that I was not in a rush for the items and that they did not need to be sent quickly or by courier, Canada Post would be just fine. On top of that, I have friends in BC who were visiting at the end of July, so she could send the items to them and they could bring them. She assured me that Gilles (she described him as the assistant manager) would send my items as requested. About a month later I get an email from my friend saying the items still had not arrived. I call the hotel again and speak to someone at the front desk (didn't get her name). She assured me a GM will call me the following Tuesday (this was on a Sunday). It's now two weeks later and no phone call. All the staff had to do was put these two items in an envelope and toss them in the mail and I'd be singing their praises and giving them the highest possible rating. Apparently that was too much effort for them to put in. P.S. If you live in Ottawa and want to be my friend for life, pick up my stuff and mail it to me. :-) read more

I stayed here for five nights last week for a business trip. I was put in a two queen room on the 10th floor overlooking the baseball stadium. Immediate thoughts were that the hallways were a little wider than the standard hotel, and I liked the proximity cards instead of the swiping cards. The room was in great shape. Two comfy beds, a wet bar, a clean bathroom with lots of space for all of my shaving gear, and a remote that works from almost anywhere in the room. I used the hotel restaurant for 5 breakfasts and one dinner this visit. Please read the signs in the elevators about the wait times for breakfast. They are accurate and will help you plan your morning to make it to your client on time. Wifi was ok. The was enough bandwidth for browsing, but when the hotel was full Mon-Thur night there wasn't enough bandwidth to watch youtube videos. I didn't use the fitness centre or pool here, because my gym membership was valid at a club 5 minutes down the street. The other godsend was the traffic control gentleman. You need to push the petal to the metal to get out, and the man directing traffic was wonderful on Mon-Wed. On Thur and Fri he was not to be seen. The only other tweak I would do would be to provide a coffee bar with access to hot water like the Hampton does next door. I like looseleaf tea and bring my own, but don't trust hotel coffee makers to heat water. read more

I'm giving this hotel 5 stars because of the value you get here, not that it's a 5 start hotel but what you get for the price if you watch for deals it can be really great. Big rooms to start with, clean and current styles and same with pretty much any Marriot comfortable beds. Staff has always been great, treat others like you wish to be treated and they will give it back! There's a pool and hot tub on the top floor, not too big in that area for sure but killer views & if you can get in there without having a bunch of others joining you it's really relaxing. FREE underground parking !! Don't get that often. Wifi works great, can't always say that about other hotels. The restaurant is ok, Not what I'd recommend for dinner really but if it's late and your up for a drink and something to nibble on it can definitely handle that. They have a really good Amber Ale on tap there, same (local craft) beer I had at The Grand Pizzeria. Sorry can't think of the name right now. It's in a location that's pretty much a 10buck Uber ride anywhere you wanna go in Ottawa. "A geographical oddity" as George Clooney's character once said! We stay there quite often when visiting my Daughter. Great hotel but one down side are the elevators. You can end up waiting for some time depending on what's happening, one of our stays there were 3 weddings hosted in the hotel over the weekend & it was brutal !! We had a choice to wait for 10-20 mins or do the stairs so luckily we were only on the 8th floor not the 15th Still I got a lot of exercise that weekend !! Lol Great place as long as you don't expect to be downtown close to Parliament Hill and Byward Market. read more

The Room was clean and spacious with a beautiful view of the city. Very comfortable king size bed. Convenient indoor parking. Overall great experience, highly recommended. We had an outstanding experience at this location! Superb customer service and great food. I've stayed at other hotels in Canada and this was the best. Great room, free fast-internet/parking. We loved the room as it was cozy, spacious, and super clean. The room was equipped with a small refrigerator and microwave which is super convenient if you're traveling with the family. The staff was very friendly, reliable, and helpful. Great pool, gym, and laundry facilities too! This location is very convenient if you want to visit downtown (7-10 minutes drive). Your pretty standard Courtyard, but Canadian style. I was here for a 3-day business trip. Little did I know that several of my colleagues had switched to the nicer downtown Marriott without telling anyone. The few of staying here soon realized there was absolutely nothing to do in this neighborhood. (Unless we were going to the local Canadian Mounted Police headquarters, just across the main road). Being surrounded by highway and parkway, there weren't many places to stroll. Not that it actually mattered. It was one of those trips where we worked all day, grabbed a quick dinner, then worked on the computer until bed time. (That way we could leave in 3 days, rather than 4.) Appearance: Outside - Not so great; Inside - OK Parking - In a slightly cramped parking lot under the hotel. A parking pass was required from the lobby, so it was best to check in first. A garage door closed on the the entrance at night but could be tripped by a car entering the ramp. Rooms: Surprisingly large and roomy. Mine felt pretty new. The bed was firm but not the comfiest I've had. The flat screen TV worked fine, though it didn't get much use during this trip Elevators - The slowest I've encountered in a long, long time. I was only two flights up, so thankfully I was able to opt for the stairs. Prices: Seemed expensive to me at about $190 Canadian ($155 U.S.). But I didn't do any comparison shopping. Restaurant: Surprisingly nice, and it was open late. Had this not been the case, I would consider a lower rating. I may have to go to Ottowa again, and sooner than I think. But next time I might switch to a hotel with more going on nearby. Even if its just to stretch my legs. read more

THis hotel just opened 6 months ago and the designers knew what they were doing! my friend came to visit from BC and is staying at this hotel and i have never seen a room designed as well as this! huge room. 2 sinks (in bathroom and out). microwave. Lots of space. everything is where it should be. Nice lobby, gym, breakfast buffet is great. i highly recommend. the only issue is that it is a little outside of the downtown core. read more

Had a great stay here last month. Rooms were great, very comfortable beds. Check in was easy. Location was perfect--easy parking, and close to downtown and the canal. Pool and fitness area were fantastic too, with great views of downtown at sunset. Would definitely stay here again! read more

This is my second stay at this hotel. The rooms are very nicely appointed and large. The front desk staff is also very nice but the staff that move about the building seem to be in the way a bit. On more than one occasion someone jumped into the elevator as the doors were closing. I did not expect it to be a staff member! Biggest downside for me is that the hotel restaurant isn't up to par with the rooms. I like to eat at the hotel when I arrive for a business trip so that I can easily get a meal and some rest before the next day. The restaurant layout is open and casual and the menu reflects that casual atmosphere but the quality of the food is lacking in my opinion. I've had the Ciabatta sandwich and the French Dip now and neither were that great. The bread was tough, the meats were decent for flavor, and the selection of sides was weak. I ordered fruit for a dinner side and was brought a banana. What? One star deducted for the restaurant, one for the "in the way" staff. If you're looking for a nice room and won't be eating at the hotel, this is a good choice. read more

Note to readers: I'm not usually this negative in any of my reviews, but my potential lack of breathing might have had something to do with it. If I could give 0 stars I would or better yet -5. Upon arrival all looks lovely. A nice modern style hotel with parking and wifi included. So why the negative stars? Ok so I've been to other hotels that, even when I've booked a non smoking floor and room, the room still smells like smoke. Not a problem, usually just call down and let the front desk know and usually you're in a new room pretty quickly. Well not here. We called down to let them know our room smelled like smoke and they sent up a superintendent type looking technician kinda guy. First thing he says. Oh nope no gas leaks or furnace issues. It's just the cleaning products. We explained that nope it's definitely smoke and a TON of perfume. He proceeded to tell us that all the rooms smell like this. Well that's scary cause I'm a little (putting this mildly) scent sensitive. He leaves and we go down to the front desk, all luggage in tow. My now blotched up, hive swollen face is not a happy camper. So we asked them to switch our rooms, which I believe in light of what I looked like and the fact my breathing was starting to falter, made it a quick change. Once in the new room I'm starting to return to my normal self (after various puffers and allergy meds) and no sir not all the rooms smell like smoke with perfume coverup. We then realized (it's on the wifi password card) that you CAN smoke in a NON SMOKING room if you pay $250 extra. now that beats the purpose of a NON SMOKING floor and room huh? Sorry but Courtyard Marriott? Never again. read more

Just stayed here last night and my bed was hard, woke up 4 times in the night with a sore back. Buffet breakfast is tasteless, barely warm and not worth the price. Furniture is getting worn out and isn't comfortable anymore. If you attend a company party here the security has become very strict and you can't even bring your coat with you. I don't believe the 5 star ratings people are posting for this hotel. The tap in the bathroom was even loose and couldn't be closed without pushing on the upper part of the handle. read more

I have to say this has been the best hotel we have stayed in while visiting Ottawa. The staff is friendly and attentive. My loved one is physically challenged and the Courtyard Marriott handicap accessible room is by far the best we have experienced. Personally I love the 18ft ceilings in the room! We stayed for 2 nights. Probably one of the best choices in hotels we made in our entire 3 week vacation. The rooms were spacious. We had the king bedroom with the sofa bed, and we had a roll - in bed brought in. My kids were happy and so were we. The wifi was nice and strong. We took a room on the 12th floor facing the stadium - great view and you could even see portions of the baseball field. The elevators are slow so that was the downside, and the parking was underground with a fairly steep entry/exit ramp. The staff were very polite and helpful. There is an indoor pool on the 15th floor (top floor) along with a gym and a very spacious (and clean) guest laundry room (which really served us well). They didn't have a change machine which was weird so you need to get change from the front desk (you'll have to wait for the elevator). There are a few small eating places in the neighborhood but not easy to find. That's if you don't want to use their restaurant. If we came back to Ottawa, this is certainly the place we would stay. read more

Me and my boyfriend stayed here for Valentines Day. Overall experience was okay. The bed was a little uncomfortable and itchy. I understand its winter time, but the room did not let me use AC. I called and they said its off for the season. I think as a guest, we should have the opportunity to change temperatures in the room. But the price is good for the room and space. read more

We stayed at this location in July 2015 for two weeks and it was great, no problems. This time in Spring 2016 we stayed for 5 days and it was terrible. Room was fabulous but that was it. The hot tub bleached my bikini bottoms and I had to discard them. The smell of chlorine was terribly strong and affected the way my husband and I tasted food for the remainder of the day. The laundry facilities for the guests were being used (all of the machines) to wash bed sheets for the hotel so I couldn't use them. The maintenance was using the elevators with dirty wash buckets, dirty mops, asking us to move over so they could "squeeze in". But here is the worst part (besides my 150$ bathing suit being bleached)... The night before we were checking out we asked front desk when do they slip our bill under our door as we had already paid for our entire stay in advance when we checked in. They told us 2am approximately the bill would be under our door. We had to leave by 6am (with our two small children) to catch our flight. 2am sounded good. When we woke up at 5am there was no bill so we called down to the front desk. They said they would bring it up right away. At 5:30 I called back down as there was still no bill and they said "oh aren't you staying another night?" And "isn't a third party paying for your room?". I had no idea what they were talking about as we had already paid the day we checked in (with debit and left a pre authorized 250$ on our MasterCard for incidentals etc). I told them I was in a rush and I was frustrated with them telling me one thing after another and asked why it was so difficult to provide us with a receipt? She stated that she would print it right away and for me to come pick it up! So at 6am I went down to pick it up and she still hadn't printed it!! She then asked me how I would like to pay?! I demanded my invoice and for the third time told her my room number because she was obviously confused about which guest room I was in!! She gave me a dirty look and the other front desk clerk was yawning and staring at me!! It was terrible. It took her five min to realize that I had paid & finally gave me a receipt.
