However, when we arrived, we noticed the hotel sits next to a bar and the parking lot itself isn't secured. It also appears that the property used to operate under a different brand before becoming part of the Tapestry Collection. While some cosmetic updates have been made, it feels like they focused on surface-level renovations rather than addressing deeper issues. Even though we stayed on the highest floor, there were several problems with our room that required maintenance. The phone didn't work, so when we needed basic items like shampoo, we had to call the front desk using our own cell phone and no one ever answered. The air conditioning also wasn't working properly, and the bathroom ventilation was extremely noisy. On a positive note, the bed was comfortable, and the TV worked fine. As Gold members, we received a $15 credit per person that could be used toward dinner or breakfast. Unfortunately, when we went to use it for breakfast, no one was staffing the area, so we couldn't order anything. Overall, it wasn't the most pleasant stay. We reached out to the general manager afterward to share our feedback, but this isn't a place we'd choose to return to. Also, be aware that an "arena tax" was added to our bill at checkout, which wasn't included in the original Hilton booking price.

I live less than a mile away so unless I decide to do a getaway I can walk to I may never actually be a hotel guest. However, I have plenty of insight into the venue to offer that most won't. It's part public space that hosts all kinds of corporate and school functions, weddings and related parties, private meetings, all of which require catering and staffing. Of those I've attended my share. It's also public space with several dining facilities and bars. Head to the rooftop, AKA "The Nest" for the single most breathtaking view of the entire city and campus, one that has no equal in the entire city. Breathtaking. Visit in the evenings on weekends and you can catch live music and a small bar on the rooftop, everything you need for a special night out, and I already mentioned, that view! Not just for hotel guests that are staying, in case you wonder. First floor, The Birddog Bar has a nice selection of my favorite beers and spirits and is a relaxed place to kick back and has a credible bar menu. For fine dining, "On The Hill," their Italian restaurant is turning out the best hand crafted pasta dishes and more in the city. Elegant, and highly rated. And for folks like me wanting to quaff a great cup of joe on a morning walk, that's available ala Starbucks in the morning in the lobby by the front door. Oh, and for the college crowd there's an age appropriate bar on the backside down the hill. I'd consider myself a bit old to visit according to my daughter. Wise advice from what I've heard. I'll stick with that. If you come: valet parking, close to everything KU related, you can even see parts of the football field for game day, and the University promises it'll be a winning team in a year or two. We can only hope, right? One last thing: a neighbor is a lead housekeeping worker in the facility and speaks highly of her employer. THAT gets my attention.

This trip so far has been the extreme opposite. We came to the hotel at 12:30 hoping to be able to check in a little early. We stood at the front desk for almost five minutes before a woman came out and said, "do you need something"? She asked our name and said, "we have nothing available right now". We had hoped to change clothes and freshen up before a meeting with University of Kansas officials and a subsequent dinner with them. There is no school going on at KU as commencement was the previous week. There were only six cars in the hotel garage. We have never been treated so rudely by a hotel's front desk personnel. I also asked when the room might be available and was told 4:00. She made no effort to look anything up or accommodate us in any way. Very disappointing.

The windows open a little, if you want fresh air but be prepared for some major highway noise to intrude and may make it hard to sleep at night. With the window closed, you hear nothing. I would definitely come back and stay again, if the opportunity presented itself.

When I asked the front desk what that meant, they explained the room was simply wider than a standard one. Turned out it had a great view, a true sitting area, two mini-fridges, and a microwave. Thanks to my Bonvoy status, I was also able to check in at noon instead of the usual 4 p.m.--a nice bonus. The hotel, which opened in 2012, still feels fresh. The bathroom had a sleek glass shower (no tub), and everything was in good shape. My only complaints: the in-wall AC unit was positioned right next to the bed, so it blasted cold air while I was trying to sleep. And the mattress was rock hard--not my ideal sleep experience. Before heading out to dinner at Briarcliff, we stopped at the hotel's bar for cocktails. The pours were generous, and the bartender was friendly. The proximity to the Briarcliff shops and restaurants is definitely one of this hotel's best perks.

As others have shared, this hotel also offers made-to-order hot breakfast options daily in addition to cereal, fruit, breads / bagels, yogur / granola, hard boiled eggs. There is definitely something for everyone each morning - even the pickiest kids like mine! It's centrally located with lots of restaurants and retail nearby, and offers plenty of parking. Pricing has been moderate compared to other hotel options as well. We've found the room to be clean enough and appreciate the kitchen, microwave, fridge, silverware, etc.. in the room as well. I had contacted the hotel earlier, and as a platinum elite IHG Memeber, asked if there were any upgrades available since it was a special weekend stay for us. Within a few minutes I was informed we had been upgraded to a king suite! We really enjoyed Hotel Indigo and will be staying here again when we visit downtown KC!

The TV is big and in the wall, it has the streaming software so you can watch YouTube, Max, Showtime and can use your account in Netflix. The bed is very comfortable and the sheets are nice and soft. The entrance lobby is really fun with a kind of Gothic and punk atmosphere. The board games and Pool table makes you want to stay and get a drink in the bar with your friends. The only con that I can see staying here is the cost of the parking, I think $ 24/ night is to steep.

The hotel is within walking distance to several restaurants and the area is really nice. They have gated on site parking. Don't be fooled when you pull in. It looks like a small parking area, but you can go down and around the corner to find more parking and bigger spaces. I love that there is a water station for your refillable water bottles. I wish they had better breakfast options. My bed was very comfortable, and the view from my room was lovely. I will definitely stay here again when I'm in town.
