I used the workout room several times and I was always the only person there. I would definitely recommend and stay at the hotel again and would have rated 4.5 stars, if possible. The only complaints that I really had were that the towels smelled overwhelming like bleach (but at least they were clean) and the stairwell smelled very smoky (signs were posted throughout that smoking was not allowed).

Located on the north side of Interstate 10 in Spanish Fort, Alabama , this hotel is not very conveniently located for beach travelers going to Gulf Shores or Orange Beach. But I was able to use my Marriott points for a 2-night stay, so not having to pay anything, made the commute worth it. Other than the Bass Pro Shop, there's not much around with the exception of the Courtyard Inn next door. The hotel front desk personnel were very nice. However, Catherine, was the kindest front desk clerk we have ever had the pleasure of dealing with! She should be commended for her excellent customer service. Like most Marriott's, the hotel is well maintained, as the lobby, fitness center and rooms were all clean. I did not actually use the fitness center on this trip either, but I did check it out. Our room was a little on the small side with only 2 full-sized beds, but hey, we didn't pay anything. There was also an indoor pool and hot tub, and we actually spent quite some time in them both. The pool and pool area were clean and there were lots of towels available. The Continental breakfast here is very popular. There's a decent selection of cereals, boiled eggs, scrambled eggs, bagels, oatmeal and a pretty good coffee bar. There is also plenty of free parking outside. The property was clean, smelled nice and presented well as a family style hotel. The room included a hot breakfast bar. The room was clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. The king room offered a bed as well as a sofa. All of that for such a low rate during Mardi Gras! I would definitely stay here again.

We opened up the room and turned on the AC (in winter) to try to get the smell out. I always carry air freshener when we travel and tried that as well. The room looked fine (see photos) but it just wasn't cleaned well, which you can't really tell from pictures. The smell never went away and actually started getting worse later in the evening. I laid down because of my headache and luckily fell asleep so I didn't have to endure it anymore. It's ironic that they have a placard in the room about this. I added a photo of that too and because it's so close up, you get an idea of the cleanliness of the room as well. It got us through the night but it was not a comfortable stay and we left as soon as I showered in the morning. Based on other reviews, I don't think this was an isolated incident, it seems like this is common here so if it's not something you can deal with, I would recommend staying elsewhere.
