This is a really nice Courtyard! If you want to be in the Cultural District or near the Convention Center, you can't beat the location. Market Square is about 1/2 mile away. The building is old but rooms appear to be freshly renovated. I was on the 9th floor and my ceilings must have been 15' high! That meant my room was full of natural light - just gorgeous. I personally did not hear any street noise or noise from other guests but I was staying during the week. My room was clean, comfortable and had everything I needed to work, rest and make myself presentable. During Covid it appears that the restaurant is closed, but breakfast & coffee are available at the connecting Standard restaurant. My breakfast there was pretty awful (super limited options as well) but there's almost nothing open nearby for breakfast or coffee. Dinner is another matter with dozens of cool places within a block or two. Staff was great - really friendly and helpful. I'd happily stay again.

We checked into room 528 for three nights. It was a basic noisy room facing the inside courtyard. There was a very funny chemical smell in the room made it very difficult to sleep through the night. The window was small and the room was dark. We opened the black out curtains and put on all 6 lights yet it still felt difficult to see. Our king bed was comfortable, the water pressure was good, And the air conditioning worked well. We didn't have housekeeping and we had to keep going down to replenish tissues, toilet paper, towels, cups .... We had a bottle of soap, shampoo, and conditioner in the bathroom. We didn't have moisturizers, cotton balls or any other toiletries. We wanted a central location in the Cultural District . When we checked in we were told that this was a walkable city and that everything was a few blocks away. Restaurants, theaters, and the convention center were walking distance. The strip, Andy Warhol Museum, ball parks,Point State Park were about a mile in different directions. During the night we heard conversations through our vents. At 7 o'clock in the morning the doors around us slammed and we heard talking in the hall. At 7:30 the smoking and screaming started in the courtyard. I was surprised at how unfriendly the staff was. When we walked in the morning and in in the evening nobody looked at us or acknowledged us. There wasn't any complementary coffee or water. We had a small old drip coffee maker with a couple of paper cups. We purchased our own coffee and water that we kept cold in the refrigerator. There didn't seem to be a pandemic here. Staff & most guests were not wearing masks indoors and we got out of an elevator when people got inside without masks.

The lobby and staff were very friendly. However upon walking into our room there was an extremely strong smell of cigarette and scent mixed which I didn't like especially having a toddler. But other than that the stay was pleasant.

I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott in downtown Pittsburgh for a few nights recently. Pros: The staff; kind, quick service and friendly. Valet was quick Location (many great restaurants right outside the door) Safety- you need a key to enter the lobby Rooms- the rooms were really nice, seemed very modernized and clean. The beds were comfortable Cons: I did not enjoy the shower pressure Your only option really is to do valet so it's an additional charge you might or might not be anticipating The hotel got noisy at night which I was surprised by due to COVID On top of that I did feel like everyone was getting off on my floor which made me wonder if they put everyone on the same floor. I've never been on an elevator with so many people since COVID which was a little odd COVID- because of COVID there is no room service or any food options available other than ordering in or from the little stand next to the front desk which only has chips and microwavable meals. Overall it was a pleasant stay. The staff really goes above and beyond. One thing to note is in the lobby I dropped $10 pulling out my valet slip. On my trip back in the guy stopped me and gave me my money back. I at some point knew I had misplaced it, but had no clue where. I was really impressed by that.

I was up in Pittsburgh for a conference that was planned near the Convention Center and was looking to spend less per night than what the conference hotel rates were. I booked elsewhere for a much lower rate and was thrilled it would have been only about half a mile away as I prefer getting some movement in before all-day meetings. Another friend/colleague who had different meetings had booked for a week at this Courtyard and reminded me that Pittsburgh could be quite cold during November. She had booked a year prior and received a great rate per night. We decided to share since several of her nights she was covering on own and this place was only a block away. I'm grateful that I did switch over as it was ridiculously cold in November and was close enough to the Westin & Convention Center. Other attendees had choice of also the Omni Penn which was further (and some even took Uber due to how cold). When I arrived to the hotel, I had discovered that my friend was not there though she flew in the day before. Apparently when she had arrived passed midnight, she learned there was plumbing issues and along with other guests, be moved to another hotel. The plumbing issue was addressed but I then saw her message to me asking me to let her know when I arrived as she had to repack and switch back. Fortunately the front desk attendant was very professional, pleasant and friendly. I had to show that my friend who had made the reservation did indeed want to allow me permission to check in. Initially I was just going to wait in the lobby but after sitting on the couch and saw I could either watch TV or read the newspaper available, I realized that I was also exhausted since I had left my house wee early. I did get to provide my ID, credit card, rewards number and receive the keys. Overall, the room was nice. I thought it was spacious even with two full beds. When my friend arrived, she said the place she just left had much larger rooms. There was table desk and a cushiony chair and ottoman which was useful as the room was missing the valet foldout piece that I'd normally stick my suitcase on. I let her use the chair and I simply used the space in the corner. There was a mini refrigerator but no microwave (I believe there may be a public one near the lobby). The armoire allows you to hang your clothes yet I had a long dress for the Honors Dinner so it dragged at the bottom of it for days. Still was fine with that. Day I was checking out, they were going to show split costs for bill. I was there for 4 nights and with the split, the bill was much higher than what she thought it should be. She was going to speak more in detail with her email from booking her original reservation. She had heard at the other hotel, some sharing how much (or actually much less) their reservation was so this was pretty mind boggling. Overall, nice location especially near the Convention Center. Many restaurants nearby, can walk to the river and see the bridges. Place is clean, nothing extraordinary, no special amenities though the staff were all friendly. The hiccup of plumbing issue and reservation cost which ended up being more than what it would have been with Conference rates were reasons not higher rating.

I always hate staying at downtown hotels (any city) and you get nickel and dimed for everything. While this chain/hotel was not different, it was not quite as bad as I'm used to. For example, I had to pay to valet park there, but it was incredibly convenient. I pulled up on Thursday evening/late afternoon - right to the curb/front door. I only had a couple bags as I was staying just one night - but it was nice all the same to hand someone my keys and not worry about finding a spot and walking a distance with my bags. The hotel did not look promising from the outside. I guess there's not much you can do in downtown Pittsburgh to improve curb appeal. At least it was not at a bus stop or have bums hanging out nearby. The check in desk is a few steps inside. There were 2 clerks working so I didn't have to wait at all. The lady helping me was quite pleasant and efficient. Within 3 minutes I had my key and was on my way to my room. When I opened the door to my room and I WAY SURPRISED. The room was huge and rather elegant. Granted, I'm used to staying at these types of chains of hotels - Marriott, Hampton, Holiday Inn, etc. So I have been in nice hotels. But to have a large room with new fixtures at a downtown location - I just didn't expect it. There was a fridge in the room and coffee machine. Shampoo and conditioner - no lotion. The TV worked well - Directv I believe - and most importantly, they had NFL network so I could watch Thursday night football. The room (711) was very quiet. I don't recall really hearing anyone else on the hall. I requested a wake up call and it came as ordered. Check out again was easy. The only bummer was that I called down ahead of time and requested my car be pulled - but the message never got to the valet so I had to wait after check out for my car to come. I also found the valet and his long, blond, loose, man bun a little disturbing. I guess it's different strokes for different folks. I would definitely stay here again and maybe try out the exercise room next time around.

Zoom in to see the mold and mildew.

Not even worth close to the price we paid. Aka - waaay over priced. The "alternate" cheaper parking option was closed and the charter school a few buildings down was letting out upon our arrival. Kids were running around everywhere and the handful of valet parking spots were being taken by very rude, ignorant folks picking up kids. The hotel, nor the valets didn't seem to care that paying customers were left out having to drive around the block 5-6 times waiting for the insanity to end. The parents parking in the valet spots were feral and not to be messed with. All that for a $38 valet spot finally. One out of three employees were professional and seemed to appreciate their job. The rooms were ok, a little outdated. The shower was in bad shape. Sadly we were too afraid to use the shower because of the stained tub and large amount of mold and mildew. Aside from being close to many areas of interest, this hotel isnt a good choice - never again for us anyway.

This was first trip since COVID-19. I was not prepared to pay full price for a room without housekeeping. Yes, except for arriving to a clean room, house keeping never re-enters your room to restock anything, vacuum, nothing. We had to go to the front desk to get clean towels, washcloths, soap, and toilet paper. The staff was polite, no issues there. Although, our bill was wrong and we and our friends were to be placed near each other. We were spread out over 3 floors.

I stayed at the Courtyard Downtown for three nights- I enjoyed my stay and would absolutely stay here again. However, I found some of the service to be uncharacteristic of a Marriott (see below). Pros - Great location, close to the Megabus drop-off, convention center, and bars/restaurants. - I had a large corner room with high ceilings and of natural light looking out onto Penn Ave. Very comfortable beds/chairs. - Fridge with a legit freezer (and ice tray!) - I received 500 Marriott points for waiving housekeeping. - I ate breakfast downstairs (a la cart) 2 out of my 3 mornings and the food was good. I also loved that they offered different blends of Starbucks coffee, including blonde/Veranda (my favorite). Cons - I specifically requested a room with a microwave before I arrived, but my room did not have one. - None of the rooms have safety deposit boxes, which I found to be odd. They do have them available for use at the front desk, but not all of the staff seem to know what to do with them (insert the key and open the box?). - The floors in the rooms are very creaky, and also have the black stains that other reviews have mentioned. Sounds from other rooms, including bathrooms travel very easily through the air vents. I was also able to hear sounds from the hallway. My biggest complaint however has to do with the inconsistent customer service that I personally received. First and foremost, many front desk staff members appeared to be college/grad-school aged (young to mid 20's). Normally this wouldn't phase me, but I felt some staff were not as professional towards me or others close in age. I also found two female staff members at the front desk to be particularly unfriendly. For instance, when I attempted to retrieve my belongings from my safety deposit box, one female attendant behind the counter completely ignored me and wouldn't even look up- I could see her computer screen and she wasn't doing anything, and she would also check her phone. The valet/bellhop attendant standing next to her finally asked what I needed, and he then looked at her to respond, but still refused to acknowledge me, and instead told the him to go get someone because she "didn't know what I was asking" or "how to do it". The attendant who eventually came out was helpful and I interacted with her several times throughout my stay. She seemed annoyed to help me, but would then be very friendly to the next person after me. Other staff members were very friendly and helpful, though.

I stayed here one night because I thought the trendy Bloomfield neighborhood would provide a nice change-of-pace from the more established downtown area. I was also planning to drive to upstate New York and thought this would be a convenient location for a faster getaway. Well, a sudden winter snowstorm forced me to cancel the side trip to New York, and I ended up spending very little time exploring Bloomfield because I took a long nap in my room after a sleepless night in the previous hotel. Even though it was bordering on pointless to shift to this hotel, I still enjoyed the studio I reserved for $152. There was a comfortable king bed, a fully equipped kitchen, a corner sofa, and a 360-degree swivel flatscreen TV. It was a lot of amenities I didn't need, but hey, it was freezing cold, so the apartment set-up made it feel cozy. One other advantage was a sizable lot to park my rental SUV. Even though they offered a happy hour and continental breakfast, I skipped both. Instead I braved the cold and just strolled on Baum to find a decent greasy spoon for dinner and a quiet gay bar for a drink. Not a bad stay, and I'd consider a return to explore Bloomfield. This past weekend (checking in Friday, June 12; checking out Sunday, June 14) was the end. When I checked in, another guest was at the front desk requesting a fan. The person checking me in seemed involved with that, so they didn't seem concerned with filling me in. It turned out, however, that the air-conditioning was broken for the entire hotel. After around a half-hour, I really started to notice the heat and humidity in my room. My wife was arriving later (after a difficult air-travel day), so I went back to the front counter to inquire about the AC. This time, there was one couple checking in with the person I had spoken to. and that couple was given extensive detail about the AC issue. When it was my turn, I noted that I had just checked in and got none of that detail. She told me then that there was no way of knowing when the AC would be fixed, but if it wasn't fixed by 6 p.m., there would be a discount; or, if we chose to leave, there would be no charge. Something, at least. A little while later, the AC kicked on. Excellent! I set the AC as low as possible to cool things off. The AC was actually set to 62 degrees from Friday evening to Sunday morning. Despite that, the coolest it got was 68 degrees on Sunday morning. Midway through the day on Saturday afternoon, it was around 77 as we were trying to get dressed for a wedding. (There were actually two wedding parties staying at the hotel for the weekend, all dealing with poor AC at a supposedly "luxury" hotel). We called back to the front desk about 1 p.m. Saturday, and they expressed shock that our room was not cooler because the AC had been fixed. A few minutes after our call, the room began to cool to a reasonable temp (though, again, never anywhere near the actual temp it was set to). My wife decided the hotel was intentionally turning off the AC to try to save money. I decided that they weren't being intentionally malevolent, but rather they were just inept. Either way, the hotel absolutely failed to live up to what it had once been. We won't be recommending or returning again. Also of note: - The hotel website notes its Spirits and Tales restaurant is open for lunch on Saturday and Sunday. But don't be fooled into thinking that means you can order lunch on Saturday; they only have their brunch menu (which is almost identical to their breakfast menu. The salads and sandwiches on their lunch menu are not available.) That said, at least we could get into the restaurant this time. On a previous stay, we arrived to discover the entire restaurant and bar had been booked by another party, so we had to go elsewhere for a drink. - The hotel's other restaurant, Cork and Crust, is also not open for lunch on Saturday or Sunday. So if you do want lunch on the weekend, don't expect to get it at this hotel. (The pizza I purchased Friday night was fine; I wasn't a big fan of the non-traditional Margherita pizza (with pesto and slices of garlic), but I'm picky about pizza.) - The carpet in our room was fraying. The mini-bar refrigerator was empty. - Apparently, the hotel was used as an overflow space for students from the University of Pittsburgh in recent times. That may explain why things are a little worn. But the idea that I'm paying luxury hotel prices for a glorified dormitory is a little much for me. The one positive is the man working the desk downstairs at the Lower Lobby. He's been there for a number of years, and he always remembers my wife and I (even if it's been a while since we were last there). He's kind, friendly, and helpful. The parking valets are always fast and friendly too, but the main guy at the desk really does an excellent job.

The hallways were incredible! And still had their old charm! I even picked up the old fashioned telephone and it rings the front desk! You can use it shall you need something ... if for some reason you cannot enter your room, just pick up the black phone in the hallway and they will come to you (this didn't happen to me, but just a tip if it does). I stayed in room 1470 and absolutely love my view of the gothic architecture of the Union Trust. I looked out my window a million times! The size of my room was huge! I could have done cartwheels all over the place! The WiFi is complimentary for guests. There's cable TV. Maybe other options too but I didn't have my tv on much to know. The water pressure deserves its own special shout out! Holy moly it was heaven! And the brand of washes they had was nice! Usually the conditioner isn't good enough in hotels for my hair but this was just fine! And there's a good blow dryer on the back of the door (I still used my own because I have a lot of hair and it's long BUT had I forgotten it, their hair dryer would have been just fine at 1875 watts. There's a tag on your door that you can hang if you'd like to skip housekeeping for a day and the hotel will donate a meal for doing so .. check out the tag for more info! There's also cards you can put on your bed if you want your bedding changed. I was never bothered in my room by housekeeping. I was never bothered by noise. I never experienced a phony phantom call to my room. (All things I've experienced at other places). You will get a free drink at checkout you can get a beer at the tap room or a coffee at Mellon Square (on site). It is not good for the speakeasy ... and yes, it's a real speakeasy that existed in the 1920s you could access thru tunnels under the city! So cool! On checkout day, the event I attended was going to start early and finish after checkout time. Since I was up late the night before, the front desk said I was welcome to bring my bags down now for bellhop to hold, but they also put me for a late checkout at 1pm so I could come down late the next day too. So partway thru the event just before 1pm I brought down my bags and they held them for the next 90 mins I was there. I parked across the street at the Mellon square parking garage ... Apple GPS marks the garage in the wrong place FYI ... it marks it about a block away but it is directly across the street from the hotel, with the entrance to it being on the cross street. I paid $44 to park there from Thursday around 5pm to Sunday around 3pm. Not bad. They do have valet parking at the hotel too but that is $55 per day I believe. Leaving was sad. I would have liked more time to enjoy this place. I would love to come back sometime! I have nothing bad to say about this place. Wonderful staff and incredible hotel! Thank you for this amazing stay!
