I had an intake appointment that went alright. The receptionist was fine; the tech was rushed, didn't really listen to my answers to her questions, and generally unpleasant; the nurse practitioner was fine. Since that appointment, [[HIGHLIGHT]]I have called twice to schedule appointments one different days about a month and a half apart. I didn't receive an answer either time, but I left a voicemail[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. The voicemail greeting stated that the would return calls before the end of the business day. I have not received return calls on either occasion. I don't want to have to hound my doctor just to get an appointment. Looks like I'll be scheduling an intake appointment elsewhere. read more

You go in for a visit and six months later you get a bill in the mail and you call them because it shows as late or you don't get a bill and they tell you well we mailed it to you it's not our fault you didn't get it. Wow. Yikes. I am not sure where to start writing this review, as there is so much spectacularly wrong, both from business and medical perspectives at this practice. From the feckless non-greeting at the front door to the Nascar pit crew treatment by the doctor, I will never visit this establishment again. First of all, you should know that the doctor does not EVER respond to portal messages. I'm not even sure why they have a portal when this is the case? When I called and complained to the front office about that, they admitted that Dr. Pete Coury's "style" is purely in-office consultation and that he would address all my concerns at my visit. Fine. I saved up my questions to ask him in person. He breezed in late, and 10 minutes later, we were wrapped, whether I wanted it to be over or not. As I was getting to my questions, he stood up suddenly and ushered me out of the door, wreathed in an angelic smile. But before I left, he managed to squeeze in that my condition will never improve! A terrible thing to tell a patient, and, worst of all, not accurate in the least. There's an embarrassing amount of empirical literature out there, accessible even by grunts like me, that has widely proven that my particular condition can be reversed. After this cattle call of a visit, several other things went wrong, of course. I had put in for imaging, prescriptions, and the rest, and never found out that my prior auths and prescriptions went through. No text, call, email, portal message or anything. Additionally, two authorizations for the same imaging appointment went through to two locations, further confusing matters. Unbeknownst to me, my prescription sat at my local Albertsons for weeks, as well. When I called into Dr. Coury's office to complain about their total lack of follow up, the staff said they would notify the doctor of my concerns, and that he would call me back. I called twice regarding these and other problematic issues, and he never returned my calls. I also mentioned that I had held back from writing poor reviews online, as I wanted to give the practice the benefit of the doubt and have the doctor explain how things work there. You know, for optics' sake, if nothing else. Because I have never received such poor treatment in any medical facility in all my life. In the meantime, I received (incredibly) two notifications to fill out surveys on how my time went at this lovely place. I filled out both. In detail. No response. I made up my mind to fire this doctor because there was no sense of urgency (or anything, really) on his part to rectify this dumpster fire relationship. As an entrepreneur myself, I would loathe for any customer to have a bad taste in their mouth, and would bend over backwards to correct the situation. So to continue receiving radio silence from Coury and Friends, was appalling. A few weeks later, I got a letter in the mail saying that the practice was terminating their care of me due to recent "staff interactions" and that I would be better served elsewhere. I have been nothing but respectful of the staff and the doctor (although reasonably frustrated), and 100% of my interactions have been over the phone. I had to laugh. I would expect nothing less than gaslighting as the cherry on top of this multi-layered sundae of gross incompetence and total disregard. read more

This is a medical practice that is nearly immune to communication. The doctor will absolutely not take or return a call. Information has to be relayed through numerous people and SOMETIMES, they respond, often they do not. I had a simple request. I called and gave it. After a couple of days, I called again. On the third call I was informed that the office manager, who apparently only works a couple of hours a week, had not read my request yet. As I was doing my taxes, I needed that very basic information, and they still would not provide it. I realize I am old fashioned, but I expect more from a doctor's office than this one provides. When even the simplest and most basic request gets lost in the labyrinth of uncaring impersonal people, and those in charge are simply unavailable, it is doing an extreme disservice to their victims er patients. read more

This clinic is the worst. Their staff and doctors do not follow up with their patients. I had to call 10-15 times over 2 weeks to check on a prescription. I originally requested to be seen for my annual physical, they said I had to schedule a new patient consultation first, which was just gathering general information. Like the same things they could ask during a physical. I'm guessing they didn't want to do that because the physical is covered under my wellness plan. Nice staff, but it's not enough to make up for their confusing and unfair billing. ------Beware a sneaky extra test----- How much do you like getting unexpected extra bills on top of insurance-covered annual checkups? My wife and I went in for an annual checkup. We were seen by Dr Mary Andrews. Without telling us, she ordered an extra test to be added to our routine bloodwork: Vitamin D Hydroxy. From a discussion with the billing department, it's clear that this is something they routinely have to explain to patients AFTER the fact (because it seems that they add this test *on top* of routine checkups frequently). In our case, they did not tell us. The lab charges $82 for this extra check (per person), and then insurance gives a discount. It sounds as if insurance companies never completely cover this, because it's extraneous to the whole *annual checkup* thing that people come in for. Asking about this, I was told by the front desk that the office will take care of it. They did not. I got a much higher bill from the lab because of some sort of coding error and what then ensued was a series of calls between the insurance company, the lab and the doctor's office. What is clear is that the test was ordered by the doctor's office, and they have a "doctor knows best, and doesn't need to tell you what they're going to do" kind of attitude. In the end, they asked us to suck it up and pay for it. -----Thanks for the checkup. Now ya'll come back in for another checkup---- They're a business. They have to make money, but this is frustrating when it's just so painstakingly clear. We were both told to come in for more appointments in a few months to do bloodwork again (to check levels of cholesterol and blood sugar). Sigh. Why the tests can't wait until next year was never made clear. If they were willing to nickel and dime at the annual checkup level, we decided we did not want to see what would happen if we were to come in for an ordinary appointment. -----Overall experience------ Dr Mary and the office are all sunshine and smiles -- which apparently does little to make up for your presumed Vitamin D deficiency. We really would have agreed to the extra tests to the annual checkup if they had asked about them beforehand. Ultimately, both my wife and I would trade in their pleasantries for a more upfront and honest doctor experience. It feels more like a business than it does a clinic. read more

I want to start off by saying I have never found a doctor's office or care provider I felt comfortable with. That was until I visited Coury Family Medicine on Guadalupe and McQueen. It is not uncommon for this facility to be able to get you in same-day or next-day! The front desk staff was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The reception area in general was very clean and comfortable. I was taken back to a room right on a schedule (huge plus!). My doctor came in soon after. Her name was Magda (Meg) Reese, PA-C. Dr. Mag is everything I never knew I could want in a primary care provider. She is extremely knowledgeable, patient, kind, caring, and earnest when it comes to providing her patients with care. The whole process was so simple and reassuring. I highly recommend this office! To anyone that has had trouble finding a primary care provider, look no further than Coury Family Medicine. read more

People, read these stars closely. I've been going to Coury Family Medical for yrs. but my last visit I was told I could only address 2 issues per visit. Can you imagine not being able to talk to your doctor about how your health or medications need to be discussed. Meg Reese my PA walked out right in the middle of my sentence. Only 2 issues per visit now she said. So I had to make another appointment. Guess I need more than 1 Medical practice. It's bad enough that you have to get all your progress reports and tests for yourself and be your own healthcare advocate with proof so you can do the research so you know what to do. There has been 1 good thing about this practice. You don't wait that long and with only 2 issues per visit, you are out of there faster. The front office staff is as cold is ice and their phone etiquette is about the same. every time I went in for a check up I was not acknowledged other than to abruptly pay my copay. the medical assistants in the back are the only reason there are even two stars marked for this review. They had better customer service by far! I was with this office for 1.5 years and never met the actually doctor/owner. I always saw my nurser practitioner who was very knowledgeable and wanted to help. I saw a different practitioner for potential parasites from traveling abroad. she was so vague on the paperwork that the lab was not able to do anything. The lab called Coury Family Medicine and was told the medical staff did not have time to clarify the order for my culture review. I was sent on a wild goose chase just to get cultures submitted which did not happens due to a doctor's office not caring about their patients! STAY AWAY!!! read more

Based on previous reviews, I was getting a mixed feed back from people's experience. This place is so close to my house and also has their own lab, so I decided to give it a chance. Well, I called yesterday to make an appointment and they already got me in today. I went in early to fill out new patient information and was seen promptly at my appointment time. Dr. Mary Andrews is so friendly and professional! I am excited to have her as my primary care doctor. She really took the time to talk with me and listen. I needed to get lab work done and just walked over to the lab room and had it done in about 5 minutes. The lab techs were so friendly! It sounds like previous patients had mixed reviews, but it may have been an off day for the front office. Give it a chance, I am so thankful that I did! read more

When is comes to medical care most people prefer a "give me something" approach to help. I was going to a former practice for over 15 years. They became pushy about tests. Met a Dr at this facility and decided to switch. My first visit was today. It was filled with a lot of discussions and frankly some very thought provoking questions. But before I got to the room, the staff was very pleasant and efficient at what they needed to do. Wait time was small but eh no big deal. So how do you rate a Dr office on Yelp. My thoughts were they showed empathy and actually did care about me as an individual not a billable hour or insurance code. read more

In my previous review I told how my brother stopped going to the Mesa practice due to rude treatment by Dr. Coury and the front desk staff. Personally I have had great experiences at the Gilbert location with Dr. Andrews! She has recommended tests for me on numerous occasions that resulted in me finding issues when they were first starting, therefore I was able to seek treatment before they became serious. Yes it costs money for lab work but thankfully Dr. Andrews requested the tests for me and I got the needed treatments. Believe me it would have cost a lot more money if she hadn't ordered the tests and I had not found the issues until I became really ill. What I like the most is how the phlebotomist's they have are amazing professionals! I have had blood drawn at many places and it's usually a terrible experience. They try in one arm, then the other then a wrist, then the other. Usually I'm poked 4 times. I have had blood drawn numerous time at Coury Family Medicine in the Gilbert location and it has always been the easiest, most painless blood draws I have ever had! Even when I go to Sonora quest in person for blood draw it's a terrible experience. If you are terrified of blood draws from your arm, go to this office. They will take care of you quickly and PAINLESSLY!! I have never had a bad experience with them. read more

I absolutely love this place. I've been going here for a few years now and I'm so glad I moved and had to find a new primary care doctor. I can honestly say I've been very lucky here and have barely had any issues. The front office staff knows me well by now as I come in pretty regularly due to illness, shots, and other stuff (lucky me!) and they always treat me very well. When I've had questions about balances due, they've always been more than willing to discuss it with me and point out why I owe X even though I already paid Y. They really lay it out for me when I'm confused and help me a ton. My doctor is also the BEST! Her name is Mag and she is top notch. She genuinely cares about me and my wellbeing, and she always listens to my concerns and offers her views as well as what I can do about it. She has also helped me find some amazing specialists thanks to her referrals. Mag is very efficient in handling things as well as calming my nerves, and she ensures that any prescriptions I need are always handled too! Mag also managed to work it out with Dr. Coury and make it so I could get a certain prescription here instead of having to go to my (ex -- and very terrible) psychiatrist every 3 months. I was very grateful for that as it makes my life so much easier and makes me feel so much better. The front office staff and Mag have always made a point to call me back when I have any questions. They truly go above and beyond here. Dr. Coury even helped me out once when it was after hours because my prescription was never received by my pharmacy and I really needed it. He sent in a new prescription immediately to be ready by the morning, and he was extremely helpful. All in all, I am a very satisfied patient and I will not go anywhere else as long as I live in Arizona. Thank you for making me feel more like a person and less like $$$ to be made. I have been a patient of Dr Mary Andrews for 6 years and have always been treated very well and she is a good doctor. This year for my annual well women examine I was told that Dr Andrews no longer does the female exams and I would have to see one of the PA's. It's been a mess from there. Test results came back normal but with a concern. The office staff tells me I can not speak to the PA and all they can tell me is non specific seek a second opinion! I feel like I am my own doctor now. New policies will probably push me to seek another doctor. read more

I found this Dr's office last year when I was looking for a new doctor. I read great reviews and it was close to my office, so I called for an appointment. I typically only go to the Dr. for my annual visits and for an occasional issue that may come up, so I'm not someone that becomes a regular at the Dr's office. I don't expect the front desk staff to recognize me or be familiar with me, but common courtesy would be nice. Each time I came in, all I was greeted with was rudeness as if I was interupting their day. Never really felt comfortable by any of the staff, but Dr. Andrews was nice. If she was at any other practice, I would possibly consider following, but will never go back to this office. About 6 weeks ago, I called to make an appointment for my annual woman's exam and made it for this morning at 8:15 am. I arrived at 8 am, before the doctor even arrived and before the doors were unlocked. I checked in and waited. And waited. I was finally brought back to the room after the basic tests and indicated that I had wanted to discuss a few things with the Dr. when she came in. I was confused when the girl who showed me to the office didn't ask me to change for the procedure. I went out to ask about changing and she stated that I was scheduled for a Physical only, with no exam? I explained that the exam was the purpose of my visit, and she stated that I can either have the exam and I was not allowed to discuss any other issues with the doctor or I could remain for the physical and ask the questions that I had, but I could not do both? I had to schedule a separate appointment to ask the questions I had? I'm sorry, but I should be able to discuss health issues during a Dr. appointment? She stated that it was due to the Insurance company and not their office? I stated that I would stay for the physical to discuss the issues and return for the annual exam, but was very frustrated. I sat and waited again and the doctor never came in. I came in EARLY, when the office opened for my 8:15 appt, that was scheduled incorrectly and waited until 8:40. I had been expecting to be leaving, after my exam, at that time, and with my frustrations, I left. When I got to my office, I contacted my insurance company and explained what I had been told and the lady on the phone actually laughed and said she had never heard that one before. "Any doctor should answer any questions you have at the time of any visit and no insurance company would require you to schedule a 2nd appt to discuss other issues not related to the 1st visit you had." I immediately contacted a new office, specifically for women and scheduled a new appt. I will never return to Dr. Coury's office again and will definitely not recommend them to anyone I know. I have noticed in past billings that they are definitely only about the money, and this last visit definitely confirmed just that! read more

I like going here, but am aggravated by my most recent visit. These guys refused to give me my lab results over the phone and forced me to come in for an appt. just to tell me everything was fine. So it cost my 95 bucks, as I'm on a high deductible health plan, just to be told you're fine. I figured if they were making me come in it was serious. My first appt went surprisingly well and I was actually quite please and excited to have found an office that i felt comfortable with, however the 3rd time i went back for a recurring problem I felt like i was basically shoved out the door after being with the D.O. for 5 minutes and then when i went back to the front desk to ask about my co-pay for the follow up they were extremely rude! I had to reschedule because the paperwork was not faxed over prior to my appointment which was not my fault and I would have to pay another co-pay when i came back. Been there a couple of times and so far every visit has been a great one. I almost never had to wait to be called in, the staff is friendly. Doctor Meg has always been friendly and helpful with any questions I have had so far. They have a lady from Sonora quest that does the blood work for them and I have to say that lady know's how to do her job perfectly, She has always taken out blood from me with out a problem, almost pain free!!
