After hearing the history of the vines & the property we wandered freely onto the many patios to enjoy the light breeze and pleasant decks on the enchanting vineyard. Just a lovely place! I was surprised to find that they made a port with Tannat as port is usually very sweet and Tannat is not sweet. I was talking with Gary, the winery owner, and asked about the port. He explained that the Tannat balanced out the port, making it less sweet. He generously offered a taste that I shared with my wife and friends. Even those in our party who don't normally like port enjoyed this one. I would rate this port very highly and would like to see how it does in a wine competition. As locals, we have had the pleasure of watching Cove Mesa Winery grow and evolve over the past few years, and it just keeps getting better! The atmosphere is always warm and inviting, making it one of our favorite places to relax. Their wine selection is outstanding -- every vintage showcases incredible craftsmanship and care. We also love the food, which is thoughtfully prepared and pairs perfectly with their wines. The staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and truly passionate about what they do. We visited Cove Mesa in October 2021. The wines are excellent. I am partial to reds. The Sangiovese is my favorite, my husband likes everything.
