We were in Jerome and decided to stop at Caduceus. The staff was friendly and gave us several samples to try. I'm not much of a wine connoisseur but the mead was very tasty. We snacked on olives and some bread with muffuletta spread. There's plenty of merch available and we picked up a few stickers for our yeti cooler. We have been wanting to try this place for a long time, my husband is a big fan of Tool and A Perfect Circle, and wanted to see what Maynard had to offer. The tasting room is really chill, the servers were very informative about the wines and the vineyards in Arizona. We ordered a few tasting flights to try out, all were very good. The two sommeliers that were working were kind enough to let us do a red wine tasting and cheese plate even though my boyfriend and I came 30 minutes to their closing. The wines were divine and I walked out buying the first one we tried in the flight of tasters. The very last one in flight was super bitter, and left an aftertaste; but it wasn't bad, just a complicated palate cleanser. The vegan cheese was such a bonus on the cheese plate as my boyfriend could eat the regular cheese and I had the vegan cheese to indulge in along with the Italian olives and Smokey almonds. The dried apricots and dates were a wonderful healthy bonus to the plate. Huge fan of Tool and Perfect Circle and of course MJK. I love the whole thought behind Maynard's local view and support for where he resides...but... I was born and raised in the Bay Area. I have a small place in Napa that I have been going to for over 30 years. I have been privileged to meet some of the most amazing growers and blenders: Harlan, Palmaz, Larkmead, Continum et al. Caduceus is really about grapes that are grown in a terroir that is not conducive to great grapes..and hence not great wines. I am not a Oenologist from UC Davis but I know a bit. Perhaps the soil is less rich, the use of more water in such an arid place that yields wines that are thin and lack depth. Their blending is good but I don' think it can make up for the quality of grapes. The tasting room is really cool and the product mix is wonderful. I only bought three bottles of the higher reds...and when I open them I hope I am wrong. But the two of us had flights of the whites ( just okay) and the reds ( better). Big fan of Maynard, he makes good wine too. I missed this place the first time we visited Jerome so we made sure to stop by this last trip. We did the samplers both white and red and found a few bottles that we liked. I bought one although it was a bit pricey, but good wine usually is. There were also lots of souvenirs so I picked up a shirt, but all the stuff was expensive for what it was, so I took off a star for kind of squeezing visitor's wallets. The stuff must sell for those prices though... This seems very much a tourist destination, but it's a great location to stop and have a glass of wine while visiting Jerome. The Ambiance was small town shop kinda feel. We had a great able by the window. The one weird thing was the staff made a big deal about my flask of water. Not allowed to drink out of your own bottles I guess. It was 104 outside. They brought us some water though so not a huge deal. read more

After learning a little bit about the winery, and being a wine lover and Maynard's talent , I thought I would go out of my way, final destination being in Mesa, to try some wine. The two sommeliers that were working were quite enjoyable and informative. Brian, I believe is the manager, gave me the background on both the Caduceus and Merkin wines. I opted for a flight of red, since I'm not fond of whites, and out of the floor, I found two of them to my liking, 2021 Airavata and 2021 Sancha. A small plate of various cheese, crackers, olives, and dried fruit accompanied my tastings. I thought the prices were reasonable... $14 for a flight of red which included four wines. The cheeseboard was $22. The other sommelier, Alan I think, approached me telling me I reminded him of a certain red headed singer/pianist, which I don't think I do, and we started talking about music of the 80s and he introduced me to several musicians to check out. Of course, there are some accessories to purchase while you're there including T-shirts, hats, hoodies, delicacies for your pallete. I picked up a traveling wine glass and a corkscrew to have on hand in case of emergency. Overall, I will make another trip to this establishment in the fall when it's a little cooler and I can enjoy a stroll through Jerome. The brainchild of Maynard James Keenan (lead singer of Tool and owner of two other wine labels, Merkin and Queen Bee), the space is clean with lots of interesting details. Great tasting room in a cute town. Had wanted to come here after watching a show featuring Caduceus vineyard and made sure to swing on over during my recent visit to AZ. Tons of cool gifts, bar supplies and of course wine! Try your taste of white or red flights or better yet try both! We had 3 of us 2 of us tasted the reds and the other the white so sharing was perfect. If you need a little nosh I highly suggest the charcuterie with the an amazing selection of cheese and meats. He gave us so much information on the building, the history, and basically everything. He had a long experience with wines so he was very confident in his skills and craftsmanship. I visited Caduceus Cellars with my third-grade best friend. We grew up together in Prescott, AZ - me, a cybersecurity jockey and cowboy trying to get through life, and him, a celebrated baritone with the Metropolitan Opera. His voice is so powerful it could knock buzzards off a meat truck, no exaggeration. As if that wasn't enough for a memorable day, we were joined by a member of a wildly famous 80s heavy metal band. It turns out that the opera singer and the metal god were old friends from New York, and so was the kicker. I also realized I knew the rocker from our childhood in Prescott. The small world doesn't even begin to describe it. The only thing missing was Maynard himself, which would've made the day completely surreal. Still, the experience was incredible. Caduceus Cellars, tucked into the rugged beauty of the Verde Valley (Jerome AZ), is a solid blend of sophistication and raw Arizona charm. The tasting room is warm and inviting, the kind of place where time slows down, and every sip feels like a revelation. I picked up/drank several bottles of Paso Robles Primer and Kitsune, both darn good wines, especially for a region not known for wine. The Primer is bold and robust, a red that begs for a big ol' steak, while Kitsune is ideal for savoring over long conversations. We weren't able to make it here before they closed when we stayed in Jerome this summer so we came back to Jerome while in the Verde Valley area to do a tasting yesterday. They do not take reservations. I called when we were on our way there to get their advice on another tasting room we could visit in Jerome after we go to theirs. The woman who I spoke to was not very helpful and said she doesn't really drink wine. Then she said it sounds like you've been to a lot of wineries today already in a judge voice. I let her know that, nope, I had only been to 1 that day. Hah, clearly a friendly voice means someone had too much to drink. Despite this annoyance, the 4 of use still came to taste here. We waited and waited and waited for someone to serve us. It took so freaking long. Just because they were packing up bottles for people who were there and ordered them. It does not take that long to put some bottles in a box. And yet, they took their time. There were 3 people working. And only 2 groups of 4 including us and 2 groups of 2. When we finally did a tasting, I was actually really happy that I didn't like their sparkling mead (too sweet) or any of the reds in the wine flight (alot also tasted too sweet). That means I won't be missing out on anything since I won't be coming back. The only interesting part was the background behind the names of each of the wines in the flight. First, we are huge Maynard fans. We were so excited to visit Caduceus Cellars. Although we were very impressed with Caduceus, Four Eight, the tasting rooms, the wine, the gelato and Jerome, the attitude from some of the staff was bad. Our server at Caduceus was wonderful, bubbly, and happy to be there. The other gal, not so much. She was cold and had a really bad attitude. We chalked it up to maybe she was having a bad day, but then I read some of the other reviews and I guess that's just their M.O. Nevertheless, I spent over $400 there. The "kids" tending to the Puscifer Store were giggling and fooling around. It was hard to take any of that serious at all, but we did leave a cute offering at Puschiva. The gal serving us at Four Eight was wonderful. She spent the time to talk to us about the history of Jerome, the wines from both wineries and we had a really nice conversation. I love that she referred to Maynard as Mr. Keenan - nice touch! We ended up ordering gelato, apple sodas, a can of Queen Bee, and a glass of Four Eight Red. You feel right at home in Jerome with how you are welcomed in. And then... the wine selection from the wine flights is not just beautiful in aesthetic, but amazing in taste. This used to be a great tasting room for the brand when it had first started. My family and I have been a big supporter of the wine from the very beginnings. In fact we still have 3 bottles of Judith (the actual Judith and the original one) from when Maynard was marketing at Whole Foods! We've made many purchases over the year from the Jerome, Cottonwood, Scottsdale (when they were still open) and online. We visited the Cottonwood and Jerome locations this past weekend. The Corronwood's service and quality were still top notch. I can't say the same thing for the Jerome tasting room at all. We visited the Jerome tasting room and were treated so poorly that I will never purchase another product from this company. The brand is dead to me and my family. The bossy server/bar tender woman was so rude and that was not the end of it. I asked for a tasting of the most expensive bottles they had in the store while I purchased some bottles including the most pricey ones. She said they don't have them and they never have a tasting of those. I noticed an older white couple next to me who were being offered the samples of the same wines o purchased and asked for a tasting and was refused! I pointed it out and she said she didn't know and that was the last drops of the only bottle they accidentally received form their manager after a company tasting. I found it puzzling as I noticed a full brand new bottle that the older couple's server had just cracked open and letting them taste among several other wines they tasted. I pointed that out to her. She looked puzzled and annoyed! She said she didn't know and she was sorry. She SLAMMED a wine glass in front of me and said I can taste it and it will cost me 6 dollars per ounce of tasting that wine! I couldn't resonate the fact that the couple next to me hadn't paid anything for the tasting and hadn't purchased and likely weren't going to purchase any bottles either. Meanwhile I made a purchase within 3 minutes of entering the store and I was initially denied a sample and later was asked to pay for sampling! The server was clearly disturbed and annoyed by something about my appearance, not sure if ethnicity, color of skin or what. But that's it for me. Never going back, never will purchase again. Being from AZ, I always felt We needed to support this business. But clearly they are grown so much they don't give any value to the customer base and the grass roots customers. The climate in the store was very toxic and uncomfortable. We were very disappointed. First a little back story that led to one of the worst experience I've ever had not just at a winery, but the service industry in general. My bf is a lifelong tool fan, wait I take that back, Maynard fan because he loves a perfect circle and pucifer too. It was his birthday so I wanted to surprise him by taking a road trip from southeast Tucson to Jerome (4.8 hours) to go to a tasting at Caduceus. Immediately upon walking in, the first thing we heard in a scrutinizing voice was asking if our vested and leashed German shepherd dog was a service dog. My bf Responded, "yes she is a police K9... " to where a nasty retort from the purple faux hawk server that "all dogs are K9's, she again asked (barked) if the was a service K9" to where my bf replied calmly, "yes she is a police service K9..." (which we had stated upfront if she had bothered to listen). But then the server begins to argue again that all dogs are K9s. My bf being a long standing law enforcement professional knowing when when people want to be combative for no reason, deescalated and simply said yes she is a service animal(for the third time) Hoping that the moment had passed and perhaps we could enjoy a tasting we took a seat at one of two available tables(don't plan to sit). But those hopes were short lived unfortunately. When the server brought the flights, I, being from near Wilcox, made the mistake of curiously and excitedly asking if any of the grapes come from that area. Quickly met with a glare and a long pause, the server then seethed through her teeth "if you would wait a minute I'll get to that". Again to placate the server's hostile attitude we quickly apologized. At this point we started to wonder if this was normal treatment or if this was because my bf is law enforcement. Unfortunately with todays political climate it's an unfortunate truth. I could tell my bf was starting to get the same impression and I could see the exciting of finally going to the tasting room of the singer of his favorite band. We had some joking banter to try to lighten the mood, but calamity struck again... With over an hour until closing, the server started to vacuum directly beside us - despite the entire place being empty, which much other space to address instead. it was obvious that we were in the middle of conversation so I can't help but wonder if this was done to further try to antagonize us. Despite all of this, we had just driven 4 hours to get here so we were damn well going to try to enjoy it. So we lifted our chins and dove into our $8.50 olives (of which were 12 small Kroger jar olives). It's not any more complicated than that. The olives were bland and the 8 crackers were stale. Quick on my feet to try to save the day, I remembered that I had a small piece(about the size of my pinky finger)of Gouda cheese from earlier on the road trip, in my purse. Delighted that it added some flavor to the assortment, we experienced about 37 seconds of joy. Until the server ran up and ACTUALLY threatened to call the cops on us for bringing in "outside food". WELP, At this point we were just done. It was clear we were not welcome so we promptly paid our check and left. My bf didn't want me to do this, but after seeing his birthday and excitement ruined by one hateful individual I felt it was my duty to warn others. Take this review for what you will but hopefully it will help someone in the future. Based on other reviews this isn't the first time she's struck, at least I hope so because if there's more like her then definitely vote with your dollar elsewhere. ***PS*** be warned the flights are only 1oz and not the industry standard of 2oz. This is a great wine shop with fun wines, 'not-your-typical' chocolates, snacks, condiments and gift-y type stuff. Because of Covid, prepare yourself for a couple things... 1. wear a mask... not just while walking around the shop... the whole time - between sips of wine, put the mask back on 2. if you are there on a weekend... prepare to wait as they are only allowing a few people in the store at a time... and by a few I think it was max of 6 people.. might have been a max of 8. We each got a tasting.... $15 each. (Note, they do not credit towards your wine purchase, so if you're on a budget... maybe share 1 tasting.) I'm not going to lie... I'm super picky about wines so I didn't care for most of them. However, I really liked their GSM... (aka Chupacabra) and it was very reasonabley priced at $24 a bottle so we purchased a couple of those to enjoy at home. Their Nebbiolo Rose ($40) was pretty good too so we got a bottle of that to take home because honestly... During our families stay in the Sedona area, my wife and I drove up to Jerome for wine tastings before our travels took us further south. Being a fan of MJK, we'd already been steered towards Caduceus by friends who've visited and they couldn't have been more right. The tasting room is well curated with obscure foods, tinctures and oddities that make for an enjoyable experience. Our tasting was very good. A few wines were on the young side, but we were still pretty impressed with the quality and varietals offered. I'd read a few reviews that suggested the service was snooty and rude. This just wasn't true, the two ladies who were running the shop that evening were easy to talk to and interested in sharing their experiences and knowledge of the wines and local viticulture. We'd highly recommend stopping in for a tasting, ask about the animal skulls displayed in the front window and enjoy the subtle ambiance. This is a wine tasting room owned by Maynard James Keenan (Tool, APC, Puscifer). His shop (Puscifer the Store) is right next door. I'll be honest, I wasn't a huge fan of the store (lacking personality, overpriced, unfriendly). However, I really appreciated the tasting room. I did not do a tasting but I purchased a bottle of wine for my boyfriend. I'm on a budget so I was very pleased to find that they had wine at different price points. I bought the Chupacabra (red) at $24. The atmosphere and decor were pleasant, with prominent branding. The space was clean and very organized. They also had a fantastic selection of snacks to accompany your wine purchase. I was particularly impressed with their amazing choices of canned fish and chocolate. Not sure what the tasting situation is but I definitely recommend Caduceus for a bottle or two, along with some unique food items. read more

Overall a great and beautiful location. The overall service was mediocre, I think because it was busier than usual on a Tuesday but there were multiple parties and only 2 servers the whole time. The dates were my absolute FAVORITE (Medjool Dates), and everything else on the board was delicious but I did find it overpriced for the size of it. ($24.95). Maybe I should premise that I do not care about who owns this place. I find his wines generally to be pretty good, and we can agree to disagree on music. It is about wine, not music. So, I was happy to try to flagship of his wine tasting ventures in Jerome, but I have to admit that I was just simply not impressed. The wines themselves were only average. There were blends that I expected to be greatly impressed by, but they fell flat. Now, I know that MJK can make amazing wines. Perhaps it was just the selection on this day. Unfortunately, what I didn't love about this place was the staff. The person who did our tastings had an unpleasant attitude, and we ended up having a strange interaction with another person who worked there. Also, there was a weird sort of hero worship about "the boss," which was literally what everyone called him (also the same at Four Eight down the way) that felt like I was in a video game waiting to meet Bowser. Yessssss - visiting Caduceus was a dream! We didn't think we had time to visit Jerome on our AZ vacation, but squeezed it in between Sedona and Page and are SO glad we did. I love bold, dry, California style reds and was excited to hear the grapes grown in Verde Valley produce similar wines. This was my first experience with Arizona wines, and these grapes are grown in the valley of the desert on Maynard's property. Caduceus Cellars and Merkin Vineyards are owned by Maynard from the band TOOL! He is the winemaker and the grapes for Caduceus are grown on his estate 1 mile from the tasting room. If you love rock music and dry red wines, you will love it here!! We stopped in at 11 am on Sunday (early for wine, but wanted to get a spot). There was only one other couple doing a tasting at the bar. We were greeted by Hanna and she gave us the option to do a tasting at the bar or at a table. We did the red tasting ($12 for 4 pours) at the bar with her and she gave nice tasting notes and details for each of the wines. I loved that the wine tasting notes mentioned soundtracks that pair well with them. :) The tempranillo was my absolute favorite, but it was so fun to try the 4 reds. For a few dollars extra I tasted the carignan which was from the reserves, but it was not my favorite at all. It was super floral. All of the other reds I really enjoyed. We then decided to taste the whites after learning they were aged in cement. My boyfriend likes a CA white that is aged in the concrete egg, so he was excited to taste this one. We both loved the crisp Chupacabra blanca that was a blend of Chardonnay, Riesling, and Sauvignon Blanc. These wines are seriously amazing and I am so intrigued by Arizona wines after this tasting experience. We looked around the store at their cute gifts and specialty food products. I purchased 3 bottles of wine to be shipped home to me in Pennsylvania and they arrived exactly 1 week later. I have them sitting on my rack now and can't wait to open the 2018 Sancha (tempranillo) for Christmas. I am obsessed with this place and recommend visiting if you are in Arizona or ordering the wine online to be shipped to you. SO GOOD! read more

So this stop was the main reason for coming to Jerome. After a 1,809 mile drive, we were not disappointed. Staff is extremely knowledgeable about the wines, the process and the history of these delectable wines. We were treated like the center of attention as soon as we walked in. Lovely tasting room with gourmet bitters, olive oil's, mixers, and an eclectic variety of merchandise. We ended up getting a salami, a prickly, pear, cocktail, mixer, and a coffee. The staff was super friendly and helpful. I would definitely drop in again. read more

Place was closed. Website says 8 pm closure for 'Pandemic Hours' Arrived at 6 (Drove in from Texas for road trip) The door was locked. My sister saw someone in the background, so she knocked on the door loudly. The employee looked up and screamed through her mask at least 20 ft. Back from the front door at us. Unfortunately, we can not hear through a locked door... 20ft back and a woman seething through a mask. She the proceeds to yell louder that there is a pandemic and they are closed. We said thanks and walked away... Since the website said the pandemic hours were to 8 pm and people are literally driving in from out of town of visit this little tourist town: 1. Don't be a rude jerk. 2. Fix your website hours 3. Maybe also consider limited people like the winery 50 ft. Away. 4. Fix the sign on your door that says open from 11-8. For a great experience visit the quaint winery above the vintage police station, east 20 feet and up 17 steps. read more
