I gave this place at five star. We tried the dessert wines, the sweet wines and regular wines. My favorite were the chocolate Moyuka wine so good the peach wine and the watermelon wine. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable. We sat outside after we had gone house shopping with my clients and we pulled over. It's very small nice little patio I felt like it was in the middle of the Italian hills somewhere Just so cute. I would recommend it if you're in the area Cove point Park is across the street great spot to grab a couple drinks and try some local wine very good. I would suggest that they add some food, maybe crackers, cheese, and fruits. They didn't really have anything. Luckily my clients brought chocolate and crackers so that helped. read more

We were helped by Shilah, who was super friendly and very knowledgeable about their wines. Definitely recommend this small Winery, just be prepared that they have VERY limited parking. read more

We've come here a couple of times. Beautiful views and decent wine. However, they are not equipped to deal with large crowds, so if you come on a busy weekend, you may have to stand in the hot sun for some time in order to place an order. The cheese platters are impressive. read more

We bought the groupon for 11 dollars for two tastings. The Groupon includes 12 tastes per person, 2 souvenir glasses, chocolate paired with the wines and a 15% discount on purchases. They only allowed us 10 tastes which were barely more than a drip, no chocolate, and told us we did not get glasses with the Groupon. When challenged they did give us the glasses but made no offer to provide the additional pours. They had no chocolate and offered nothing as consolation. The wine is ok but the experience was rushed with no explanation about the wines. Worst Groupon I have ever purchased. There are many other wineries and we won't bother with this one again. read more

I was extremely disappointed with my visit to this winery, the wines I tasted were all oxidized and vinegary and when I pointed this out to the girl doing the tasting, she tasted it herself and said it was alright. The Chardonnay didn't taste like a chard at all, it was actually a bit tart almost sour, considering I was the first visitor of the day the wines should have been fresh bottles but none of the ones I tried were fresh in any sense of the word. The young girl was a wealth of information and knew her product (they use grape juices purchased from MD and other areas) but that's about it. They also do an array of sweet "Mist" wines that are more like wine spritzers and taste like one base wine was used with flavoring added. When I tasted their "award-winning" Raspberry Port, again something was off with it but she was just like... "well... its good for baking brownies." I want to drink wine, not buy baking ingredients... *heavy sigh* I really tried to give this winery a chance especially after visiting a similar winery that was sort of the same ramshackle cheap setting... but my open mind did nothing for the lackadaisical unprofessional tasting. BTW, did I mention they like to say they are the oldest winery (making wine for more than 10 years) in Southern Maryland... then why do they look and taste like a start-up?? Overall, just another tourist attraction, not a serious winery obviously, so don't use this winery as a basis to judge Maryland wines. read more

I found these wines at a little farmers market on the University of Maryland campus. I got to sample about 5 of the wines. The sangria, the pomegranate wildberry, and the strawberry are the ones that stand out in my mind. The pomegranate wildberry was deliciously amazing and for $11 I bought a bottle. The sangria was very good too. My friend for that one. I liked the vast majority. The only exception was the strawberry wine reminded me of watered down cough syrup. I'd probably get the sangria one at some point. read more

A very small boutique winery. We used a Groupon, bought for $11 for a tasting for two, tasted 12 wines, and got two free glasses. What a deal! We had a great time. Only had a few tables outside but at least they were undercover. They have 3 whites, 6 reds, and at least 12 fruit wines. We thought the reds were better than the whites, but the fruit wines were excellent. We actually bought a bottle of white raspberry and white sangria. This was our stop after a morning of hiking Calvert Cliffs State Park. the winery was minutes away and our visit could not have been better. Melissa served us 10 samples each of our choosing - there was a great variety and the wines were excellent. I had packed assorted meats and cheeses to complement our tasting and it certainly did. One wine, described as "Smoky" by the very knowledgeable Melissa, was definitely a match for the hard salami. The prices of the wine were amazingly reasonable compared to most small wineries. read more

I had gotten a Groupon for a tasting here. The Groupon included a tasting for two, two take home wine glasses, two specialty fudge pairings, chocolate for each person and 15% off bottle of wine. Unfortunately there was no chocolate or fudge pairings. The venue is small (see picture). I wouldn't come here in big groups. The red and white sangria are delicious! Also, if you're into ports and dessert wines, the cafe mocha port and Black Forest port are to die for! Almost missed it. The wine tasting location is in the same drive as a private residence. Very small; limited parking. The fruit wines were delicious. They had a very large selection and the prices were very good-$11-$18. I give it four stars because the wines were very good as well as the service; however I give the location 2-3 stars. The manager said they had a difficult season due to the heavy rains and need to make a decision about continuing the winery. read more

Went to Cove Point as part of a loop of the area wineries. Here is our review of the winery: Wine: There were over 30 wines to try. You could try 4 for free and then for an additional $4 per person, you could try up to 15 of their wines (and you kept your glass). We had difficulty choosing just 15 of the wines because they had so many that we actually wanted to taste! Overall, the wines were very good. The white wines were average, the reds were stronger, and the star of the show were the Lighthouse Mists. We purchased the Cove Point Red--a nice red blend that we could have with dinner and two of the Lighthouse Mists--which we will be definitely be drinking this summer! We picked out the Acai Raspberry Cabernet Sauvignon--probably the best "fruit" wine we've ever had. We also picked up the Pear Mist, which had a more unique flavor. We probably could have picked out at least 5 more to purchase from the red and Lighthouse Mists collections. The prices were also fantastic for the quality of the wine. Service: The service was average. Nothing that stood out that was positive or negative. Ambiance: When you pull up to do the tasting, it is located in a barn-like building next to the owner's house. The tasting room is small and could probably fit about 10 people--but it would be extremely tight. It did not appear to have an area that you could enjoy a class of wine inside or outside, which is disappointing because they were so good! There were vines on the property behind the house and tasting barn, so they do grown grapes on site. Overall, a great experience. Wines are great, but we wish they had an area where we could enjoy sipping on wine while potentially listening to music and enjoying they day. read more

Loved this winery. Small and private, with a knowledgeable and friendly server, unique and interesting wines made entirely on location, and the tasting came with a glass. They have a series of light, fruity wines (the pomegranate wildberry and blackberry are exceptional) and some dessert ports (try raspberry mocha and cafe mocha). Cove Point Winery is a small, independent, family-run winery that has a variety of inexpensive but flavorful wines. They have their own grapes, and make their own array of white, red and port wines. Their specialty is definitely their Lighthouse Mist wines, which are creatively flavored wines with a wide variety of fruit flavorings, such as Green Apple Gewurztraminer, Blackberry Merlot, Strawberry Riesling, Pomegrante Wildberry Zinfandel, Kiwi Melon Pinot Grigio, and many others, all light and delicious and $10 a bottle. The staff, including the owners, are friendly and fun, and the tastings are free for 4 wines, $4 for up to 15, which is a great deal because you'll want to try them all. For how small the winery is, they produce way too many wines. It really should be about quality kver quantity. Their wines were all very vinegary and sour or way too sweet. I did like the mocha port. It was decent. I'm all about supporting the locals but I don't think I can drink their wine again. We bought a Groupon which included two tastings, some chocolates, and fudge. The "chocolates" are Hershey kisses and the "fudge" was some dried up chocolate balls with a fudge substance inside. It was not at all what I was expecting. It was not part of our tasting but we were told we would get a free bottle of Chardonnay. He joked and said even if you don't like Chardonnay, you need to take this so my inventory isn't off. We took it home, chilled it, and poured it. The color was way off. I took one smell and taste and dumped the entire bottle. It was horribly wrong. Resembled nothing like a Chardonnay. It was extremely sour and vinegary. I was trying to be open minded and support local but I'd rather take my money elsewhere. If you like super sweet wines they did have a few decent ones. read more

My fiance and I recently stopped by Cove Point Winery for a tasting on a Saturday afternoon. (We're working our way through the Maryland Wine passport.) It felt like we were driving up to someone's garage, and there were no vineyards in sight, so they must ship their fruit in. The tasting was a great value for the money compared to other local wineries -- I think it cost us $4pp for 15 wines we could select off their list -- but the overall experience left a bit to be desired. They have many unique fruit flavored wines in their Lighthouse Mists series, but none of them wowed me. The young woman working there accurately described them as wine for non-wine drinkers. Great if that's your thing, but then why would you be visiting a winery? Unfortunately that was about all she could tell us. She was quite friendly but unable to answer any of our questions about the wines (and they weren't esoteric questions either). I don't know how new this winery is, but there's quite an opportunity for improvement. read more
