About 4 years ago, the church underwent renovations that topped out at about $1.5 million. It really made a huge difference. The church was nice before the renovations, but now it is just absolutely beautiful. I could sit in there all day and just look at the stained glass windows. The priest's that do masses here are pretty good too. All in all, it's a good parish and an amazing church. If you live in this area and are looking for a church to get married in, you absolutely have to see this church if you haven't already. It's stunning.

There are several churches in the Lakeview / Mid City / Bucktown area and we went to every single one of them. However, we truly like Our Lady of the Rosary on Esplanade Avenue. Father David Robicheux is a young energetic priest with a passion for his job and also for the community in which we live. I'm not trying to be a "holy roller" but he actually translates the gospels into real world scenarios that we can all relate to. Auxillary Bishop Shelton Fabre is also in residence and often presides over the Saturday vigil mass as well as the Sunday evening mass. The church itself is beautiful and the few pictures that I have posted do not do it justice. If you are a visitor to this city or just looking for a catholic church in the Bayou St. John area, then check it out.

The main thing that I enjoy is that the priest is young and keeps his homilies relevant to what's going on in society. He also allows the deacons to do the homily which I think is very progressive and I enjoy quite a bit. Another major plus for me is that they have candles in the front that I can light and pray to the Virgin mother as well as St. Joseph on the other side. As the name of the church suggests I appreciate that there is a dedication to our lady as well as the rosary. The choir sounds absolutely amazing! It's funny because the choir director heard me sing one time in the congregation at 6 o'clock mass is trying to convince me to join the choir. The congregation is very friendly and I felt welcomed the first time I enter the church. I also enjoy that the congregation is very ethnically diverse. There's also very sweet ladies were trying out who asked me to join the Legion of Mary that meets on Monday nights. They even have field trips for example they went to St. Joseph's Abbey on the North Shore to visit. One of my girlfriends got married here and it is an absolutely beautiful church. As a bonus one time I saw the renowned chef Leah Chase and her husband and daughter at 9 o'clock mass in the first pew!

The church was originally run by Vincentians Fathers in conjunction with the Daughters of Charity. Today it is a Diocesan church which was merged with the parishes of St. Henry's and Our Lady of Good Counsel in 2008. The church building is the 2nd largest in NOLA. Last weekend I returned to attend the St. Joseph's altar at the church and was informed that this was an Italian church so I immediately called my mother upon exiting. And her response was since when? I'm guessing the 1960s. So that's an interesting change. I last attended services here on a Carnival Sunday (Dimanche Gras?) before the miserable Napoleon construction and it was amazing. Clearly many families were camped out on the route waiting for the first of the parades to roll but first they all went to mass together, in their carnival finest. The priest that day welcomed all the visitors to the church and gave a lovely sermon on family and joy. It was perfect. Th school sells food and beverages during the carnival season as a fundraiser AND usually sets up an ATM outside so that's helpful. Random family fact: My grandmother was not allowed to be married in the church in 1938 because shockingly she married a protestant. Instead the priest walked over to my great grandmother's house (a block or two away) and married my grandparents at her home.
