I have had pedicures at Coventina and have always been satisfied. Scheduled a pedicure the end of February 2025. My appointment was not with the person I scheduled with. No explanation as to why there was a change. Tara was nice enough, very inexperienced. Spent a good amount of time telling me (after I asked how long she had been at Coventina) that she didn't really like her job, especially did not like doing nails and was hoping to fast-track to facials as she didn't want to do hair either. My feet are very soft as I care for them. Tara aggressively filed away until she sliced the side of my foot by my big toe and it began bleeding. I had to tell her I was bleeding. She said, "Oh wow. I can't believe I did that. I can always tell when I move from calluses skin to softer skin. I didn't feel it." I don't have callused skin on the side of my foot. No apology. It was very disappointing after the many years I have enjoyed going to Coventina. I was also the only customer in the nail room that morning - not one other customer. How absolutely lovely! On a recent vacation to northwestern Pennsylvania my mother and cousin recommended we spend a day at the spa. I was booked "The Goddess" package which included a massage, a sugar scrub, and a aloe wrap. The location was an old house converted into a salon and spa. Music was piped through to every room, a soothing melody of music. They have a small changing room where the two changing rooms have shower stalls. There is a larger bathroom nearby, an assortment of robes, and all sorts of items for afterwards such as a hair dryer, toothbrushes, hair brushes, and more! After I disrobed and put my belongings in a complimentary locker I met Mallory, my masseuse, outside in the hall. Mallory took me upstairs for the massage and it was bliss. One, I was uncertain how this would go because it was so cold outside but the massage table had a heated pad. Mallory has me select a scent and I went with orange to be used in the lotion. There's nothing like a good massage to make you realize how tight certain muscles are! With the conclusion of the massage I was led to a waiting room complete with comfortable couches and magazines. I waited there admiring the Christmas tree and stockings until Mallory was ready for my sugar scrub. I selected another lovely scent for the lotion and then went to the Vichy shower room. The scrub itself was slightly unpleasant but I was warned it would be. Exfoliating isn't necessarily supposed to be pleasant. But after Mallory completed the scrub she turned on the Vichy shower and I was bathed in cascades of warm water while Mallory scrubbed me further. After I dried and she massaged the lotion in me. It was fantastic. Back to the waiting room and this time I sipped on vanilla tea with vanilla creamer and loved it. I was so relaxed. But next was the aloe wrap! I was given another selection of different types of aloe and then wrapped like a burrito. Twenty minutes I laid in complete warmth and almost complete darkness. It was nice. Then Mallory massaged my face and the service was complete. So, I get how some people say the receptionists aren't the most friendly. We were checked in with clinical precision and on the way out it initially was the same. But after some humor they cracked a smile and were rather pleasant. Honestly I was shocked at how good my experience was. The spa experience was lovely and I would highly recommend! read more

Left me sitting in the waiting area for 20 minutes and was then told by the therapist that she only had time for a 50 minute massage. They left a message on my voicemail that I would be charged for the full price of the massage when I was sitting right there the entire time. The front desk girl admitted she wasn't paying attention when she checked me in. I overheard her and a coworker mocking that when people don't show up and they charge them for the full price of the massage anyways...meanwhile I am sitting there the whole time waiting to be called back. My 18 year old daughter won 2 gift certificates at a raffle. She wanted to use them before she left for college. She called and scheduled an appointment and asked if she could use the gift certificates and was told yes. She went to her appointment and gave the certificates afterwards and was told that they would not accept one of them. I feel they tool advantage a a young girl and charged her almost $100 even though she had a gift certificates. We called for the manager multiple times and received no response. My husband got me this as a gift after the birth of our 3rd baby (push present!). One thing they offered is a "Vischy shower" which I was unfamiliar with but this is a warm shower on your body while you are lying down on a table immediately after a body scrub. Which is lovely and doesn't interrupt the flow after the scrub with standing up slippery and wet to walk to a conventional shower. After this we did a fully body 60 minute massage which was also wonderful. Followed this up with facial, mani/pedi, and a blowout with hairstyle. It was a lovely day all in all. I went by myself which was relaxing but might have been more fun with a friend. Was offered tea, coffee, and water throughout. All of the spa employees were very friendly and professional. The package took a long time, in the future even for a special occasion I would probably try to break up the appointments over 2 days. Although it was luxurious to do all in one day. I've never experienced anything like I did during my day at Coventina. I had been complaining to my boyfriend that I wasn't feeling very good about myself (needed my nails done, etc.), so for our anniversary he purchased me the spa sampler package. The package includes a 30 minute massage, spa manicure and pedicure, and a facial. (I upgraded to a gel manicure and also got my eyebrows waxed.) I was ushered into the ladies locker room and supplied with a robe and slippers to wear during my stay. First was my massage. The masseuse was very kind and made me feel very comfortable. The massage was a very good, full body rub down in a relaxing room. I've only had one massage before this one, and this really took the cake. I'm not sure if it would've been best to have the massage at the end of the day rather than the beginning though... It made me feel very relaxed and euphoric which was a great way to start my time there, but it also would've been nice to leave feeling that way. I then got my manicure and pedicure. The nail tech was very nice to talk to and did a thorough job. Finally was my facial. I've never had a facial before so I didn't know what to expect. The staff asked if I wanted her to explain what she was doing so throughout the process she explained every step in detail. It was a very pleasant and relaxing experience. I was there for about four hours and left feeling rejuvenated and refreshed. It was a beautiful, relaxing space, and all of the staff who did my services were wonderful. My only complaint is that the staff at the front counter weren't very friendly. I was nervous going in and they didn't help to alleviate that at all as they weren't particularly welcoming or pleasant. When I cashed out and left I got the same impression from them. I went back to Coventina to try for myself first hand. I'll be back here again for sure and I'm still sticking with a 4 star review. This is a good spa but a few nit picky things are keeping it from being really great. I had 3 facial waxing services, a shellac manicure and spa pedicure. The prices in my mind are extremely affordable/a good deal considering this is a higher end salon spa for the area. I was pleased with the results (Summer has great waxing technique) and the price which was less than $140.00 and that included a 20% tip for each service provider. Not bad! They also offer some great pre-set packages which I plan to go back and take advantage of in the next few months. Because of the prices I can afford to go more often :) Here is what Coventina gets right: The Setting. OMG the bucolic setting of this place is absolute gorgeous! It is a huge property and it feels like you are visiting a bed and breakfast. Thing homey and warm. You don't feel crowded and there are several rooms to hang out in. Because they have such a large space there are mini boutiques of product set up throughout the spa. They sell Vera Bradley, all types of hair care and makeup products, OPI, different gifts and candles. While a lot of these things not my style, it proves a great place to pick up a hostess or birthday gift or something to go along with a gift certificate. The Noise Factor. The second is the fact that you would never know there is a salon in the place. This is a good thing because there is nothing worse than going for a relaxing service only to hear chit chat and blow dryers. The relaxation areas are very quiet so kudos to the owners for taking that into consideration. Many times I avoid places that are salon/day spa because of this reason. Prices are good. Here is what Coventina needs to work on: Reception. The receptionist greeted me a took my coat which was great. I would have liked if she would have offered me something to drink especially since I was going to be there for about two hours. By the time I was about to get my pedicure (my last of the services) I had to ask my manicurist for a drink. I was offered water which is great but no mention of tea or coffee. These should be standard offerings. it would also be nice to acknowledge a client is a first timer. Since you don't know me you are not aware of what my skin situation might be. This helps to avoid assumptions on the types of products to use when receiving services and gives an opportunity to sell products. Again super picky but this would be something that goes from good to great. Services I really wish they offered dermaplaning. This is much more pleasant than waxing and it lasts a lot longer. Threading could be good too though I am not a fan but I think a lot of people like this or would like to try it at a spa as opposed to in the middle of the mall. Spray tanning would be another great service to offer. Checkout and payment. I was not asked how my services were or about re-booking. Again, super picky but this is a missed opportunity ($$). I will also be sure to have cash for tips next time to give directly to the service provider. I am used to being able to pay with a credit card and then receive cash from the drawer to place in sealed envelopes with the person's name. Got scheduled in for a session due to a cancellation two days out. Scheduled a deep tissue massage for one hour with a woman masseuse. It was pretty noisy in the main spaces both before and after my massage but it was a Saturday. Overall, the massage was not the best: my masseuse was talking for a while at one point, chewing gum during the entire session, referred to me as a kid (I'm in my late 20s), and applied pretty minimal pressure for even a regular massage. I politely asked her to increase the pressure twice, at the beginning and middle, and only for the last 10 minutes did she ramp it up. When she massaged my legs she didn't cover my calves at all, and when she massaged my hands it felt like she was taking a break. I told her I've been getting massages for the last 10 years for the knots I get in my back but that didn't make a difference in her service. The music was also skipping quite a bit at times which was not so relaxing. I'm not one to complain and tipped her for her time but the experience was anxiety-inducing. I got something out of the last 10 minutes thankfully but it was really disappointing. Went for a Brazilian waxing. Now I've been going to Coventina for this service for years however the woman who previously preformed this serviced moved away with her family. When I was told she was no longer available (I hadn't been back for a little while) I was assured that the new women was very professional and had years of experience. During my appointment I was repeatedly told what measures I needed to take to make her job easier next time. She suggested I purchase a man's beard trimmer you know "just because". I've never been so mortified! They're the one's that set the tell you how much growth is needed for the wax to adhere properly and frankly if it had been my first time having the service I would've thought there was a problem with me and never had it done again. I enjoy massage and have tried most of the local places. I've been to Coventina about 5 times for massage. Their massages are pricier then other local offerings. In my opinion, the experience of the therapists doesn't warrant the price. Every time I go I get a young masseuse that is just out of the local massage therapy school. Four out of five times, their inexperience was evident. I did have an awesome massage there once. It's been my experience that if you get a good massage there, you got lucky. My husband called on a Monday and booked me a full package for that Saturday because Sunday was my birthday. I get there at 9:00 and they tell me my appointment was the following sat. I said someone must have made a mistake because my husband wouldn't book it for the following weekend. They said sorry there was nothing they could do for me. I'm rating this spa based upon the experience both my mom and I had coming here. We each had the Green Goddess package that included a 60 min aromatherapy massage, a 20 min aloe wrap, and a body scrub/Vichy shower. I had only had one massage in the past and was nervous to realize that both of us had males that were going to give us the massages (thinking the pressure would be too hard and be painful). In the end, that shouldn't have been a concern at all. The guy doing my massage asked about the pressure I'd like to have and made the massage very comfortable for me and was able to focus on my head and neck since I had a headache that day. My scrub was a bit rough since I had dry skin, but the shower itself was amazing. The guy always left the room and gave you plenty of time to get comfortable and covered before coming back into the room. You also got to choose the scents they used for your massages and you were able to sit in a room with couches, coffee, tea and water in robes while waiting for the next step to be prepped. When we were comparing our massages at the end, my mom realized that she hadn't gotten the same treatment as me. In my aloe wrap for instance, my guy had me sit up to rub the oils/lotion or whatever it was on my back in addition to the front - she didn't receive that. In my shower, I had the front and back of me scrubbed and showered off - she only got the front of her done. The customer service at the reception area leaves a lot to be desired. I arrived 5 minutes early for my appointment. The reception desk was very busy and I signed the appointment sheet when I came in. After waiting 25 minutes, I approached the front desk and asked if they forgot me. The girl said she would go check. Approximately 5 minutes later, she said my technician wasn't available but they would "fit" me in. I felt as if I was a bother to them. I had been waiting and looking at items for sale in the reception area for 20 minutes. Not one person asked if they could help me. When I complained in writing about it, to the e-mail listed on their website twice, no one ever answered me. Apparently customer service does not matter to the front desk or the owner. Obviously, I will not be returning. My 2 star review does not in any way imply that the technicians that did or have done my pedicure in the past did anything but an exemplary job. I love this place! It's in the perfect location out in the country and just so peaceful! The staff is so polite! I have not run into any problems with them. I've only gotten nails and waxes here. But if you get a pedicure get the premier, it does cost a little extra but you won't regret it. Your feet will come out looking and feeling great! My favorite part of the treatment is the paraffin wax! Which leaves your feet soft and callas free! The polish does stay on for quite awhile. Categorically, the WORST experience I have ever had, at a salon, in my life. We were booked for a group bridal appointment which they said ranged from 10-1. Only one person had their hair scheduled for 10. The rest were scheduled for 11:30 and 12. So they offered for us to go upstairs in their lounge area to wait for our appointments. We were not allowed to talk because they were doing massages in the adjoining rooms. They literally came out and said that we had to be quiet and whisper please. It was like being in a funeral home. And besides the bride, everyone else's updo was mediocre at best. Mine was falling down before the wedding even began. I have family members that are renowned photographers who often travel with bridal parties to take pre-wedding pictures and I told them this story and they were shocked and appalled. They said most salons slot out a time for the entire bridal party and they have drinks and snacks and it is supposed to be a fun experience. This was anything but fun. And when I addressed this issue with the manager, she was rude and condescending and smirked and said "We have to accommodate everyone." So instead of making the morning before my sister's wedding fun and her having a good time to start the day right, we made the grave mistake of picking Coventina. There are much better choices in Erie. Stay clear of this place They are rude and snobby. read more

I arrived at 1:30 on a Friday to find there was no parking available in the customer lot. I waited for 10 minutes and no one had left so I parked on the side of driveway as far in as I could and walked quite a distance to get into the building. They were steadily busy and when I approached the counter, I wasn't greeted warmly but told I would need to fill out paperwork, I told her that I had been there before, and she questioned this also, but looked it up to verify, so then I was then told I could wait for my massage therapist. I was early and I used the wait time to look around. The atmosphere here is nice enough and waiting room comfortable. When my massage therapist came to get me we walked up the staircase and through and long hallway up to a very large room which was a group of employees eating and relaxing, sitting at a very large table, mixed with some customers in robes seated on a couch, it has the feeling of a small party or a break room. Our massage room was a very, very small room with a pocket door, right off this large room, 2nd door to the last. The therapist said her music was unavailable as it was broken.(My first visit here a few weeks back, I was in this same room but there was music and it was not as busy in the large room.) During the massage I was telling my therapist (who I have gone to for over 20 years, but at other locations) where my worse problems were and she described what she was going to do for this area and why this problem was occurring, I asked her what I could do at home, as she worked on this area at a lower end of the table so I certainly couldn't whisper, but I wasn't speaking loud either, and then I was startled as the therapist next door, made several loud rapping knocks on our thin wall, which, as I was laying face down, was both confusing and startling to me what that was meant for, and my therapist said it was our talking, and the walls are thin. I then tried to not speak at all or wait till she was by my head, as this seemed the best solution for the moment. I became uncomfortable thinking this was how I will be treated in here, and that I was unable to freely talk to my therapist because of the set up of the rooms and the thin walls. I have been getting massages for 20 plus years, I have been treated in rooms next to day care centers, in busy offices, etc., I have never felt I the need to ask my therapist to quiet people down. I told my therapist I was upset I couldn't talk to her like I have always been able to without someone rapping rudely for us to quiet down, and all the while the large room of women are laughing and talking and I could hear them, but I, the paying customer, am asked to quiet down?! I also told her about my lack of a greeting and no parking, and she said she had to park in the CUSTOMER lot as the employee lot had no spaces either. I will never go to this establishment again. All I can say is that it's gone downhill.When I used to go to Coventina in the past, it was an experience. I have been going to Coventina for 5 or 6 years now and will continue to go while I live in Erie. I have gone to a bunch of spa's around town and continue to find myself going back to Coventina. Although the location is a little bit outside of town, it is well worth the drive. The staff are all very accommodating and friendly, the atmosphere is cozy, and the service is consistent and always top notch. I even have a nail salon right next to my office that is less expensive, but every time I go get a shellac, the polish chips within 10 days. When I go to Coventina, it ALWAYS lasts for 3-4 weeks, therefore it is much more worth it to pay $5 more and only have to go once a month. I always have people say to me that they hear Coventina is very expensive, but this isn't true. I just started getting my hair cut there and it was the same price as the salon I have been going to for 9 years. My kid's cut cost $16 and my cut and dry was $30. I go to Coventina now for everything.... nails, hair, waxing, message. I would recommend Coventina for anyone who is looking for a spa to be pampered and given great service. read more

My husband just got me a $95 gift certificate to Coventina for a deep tissue massage. I thought it was a complete waste of money, so I called to see if I could have a refund and they were very cold on the phone but did explain that I could use it for other services! I am so dissatisfied with the overall experience that I had; especially the pedicure that I had done. I was 8 months pregnant when I went and had waited a long time for this. Since my husband had gotten me a gift card, I splurged and got the Premiere Pedicure priced at $57. Not only was this the worst pedicure I've ever gotten, it was by far the most expensive. I debated whether or not I should call and complain because I wasn't looking for anything free; since I was so pregnant, I hoped I could get it fixed. If I could have reached my toes to paint my nails or my heels to scrub them, I would have done it myself and saved my gift card for something else. I ended up calling and speaking to a very friendly desk person, (who totally out-shined the girl who cashed me out the day of my service--she should not be the first point of contact for your customers!) She took down my information and said that the owner would be calling me back. I guess my expectations were too high for the owner because I felt like she could care less about my concerns, but just doing what she was supposed to. I have years of customer service experience; many working in a salon of high caliber. I could not believe the lack of sincerity from this woman. She was a terrible listener and interrupted me when I tried to explain where I was coming from in the most friendly way I could...and she was the owner! After giving me a bunch of defensive feedback about how the state won't let them use certain tools anymore (and if this is the case, it should be communicated to clients, especially when you're charging $57 for a crappy service) she said she was going to send me a new gift card so I could come back after my baby was born. Well, my son is almost 3 weeks old and I have not received a gift card. I don't want it anyway. It's the principle. I honestly would have rather gotten reimbursed because it's embarrassing as a client to go back after you've complained. No thank you. Coventina needs to get their act together. There's a lot of competition in Erie for the same kind of services. I will be taking all of my future business to Panache and will never step foot in Coventina again. read more

I feel coventina has gone down hill, I have gone there for many years and the level of service has changed ,the managment now is not as accomodating as it used to be.they at least asked you how everything was.not to mention during my service thats all i could hear was talking from the next room over.I wont be back until the owners get new managment these ones are ruining it because it really is a nice place with lots to offer read more

Would NEVER try to schedule here again. Five friends were planning a weekend away. I called and made reservations for multiple services for five people. Called to make an adjustment and they did not have our reservations (3 days before our trip !!!). Horrible experience, basically said "sorry", no offer to help us connect with another spa, as we do not know Erie area. They do not know anything about customer service - your money is better off elsewhere. read more

WARNING!!!! DO NOT GO HERE FOR HAIR SERVICES!! I had my wedding hair updo done by Tara in June. I asked for it to be a curly bun in the back of my neck but she put it my right side. I did like it, but it's not like I could have asked her to redo it b/c of time. That should have been a warning to me that she doesn't listen to what her client wants. I was also warned by 2 coworkers not to get my hair color done by her b/c she didn't give them what they wanted and had to have it fixed by a girl named Pandora. So I went back recently to have caramel/honey-ish highlights put into my super long natural brown hair. I have been thinking about it for years but I refused to do it b/c if I didn't like it I would have to have my hair dyed and it wouldn't be my natural color anymore. I went in for a partial, specifically stated that I didn't want blonde, just caramel to lighten my complexion up a little since i'm on the paler side. I got a gut feeling that something was wrong when I asked her how many foils she had put in and she stated 50! I later found out online that a partial should be less than 12! After she was done, my hair was bright yellow ALL OVER except for 1 inch of brown roots. She was all excited saying stuff like "yay you look like Jenn Aniston!" and "now you're blonde!"............. Did I ask to go blonde? I asked for a partial!! I was crying so she said she can put a toner on it but, "that kind of sucks b/c your paying so much money to go blonde and now you have to pay to put brown back over it." She could see the hesitance on my face so she then stated, "I know you don't like it but you still have to pay for it." Her attitute towards me had compeletely changed from when I walked in the door. I knew I had to pay for it (they take your credit card info at time of booking probably for this reason), but the lack of care she had for my hair and emotions at the time just blew my mind. So I came back an hour later and she put a brown toner over it, but it's ashy looking and almost gray colored with orange tinted roots. The manager wasn't in, I was told she would be the next day. I left a message for Jenn Gilroy (manager) but never received a phone call. I've been trying to reach her but the front desk women are now being short with me b/c i've called so much. So overall this business should be avoided! Tara needs to go back to school to learn how to do highlights, and Jenn needs to learn customer service etiquette. If Tara did my hair right, I would have been a permanent client, her loss. Just head my advice and do not, do not, do not let her touch your hair! Now I unfortunately have to walk around with this hair until it can heal for a few weeks, then go pay to have it fixed at a different salon. I was 10000% clear on what I wanted, so I know I didn't do anything wrong. Coventina Day Spa, but most importantly Tara, should be avoided at all costs.
