    Walking in

I was driving across Ohio on back roads and happened to look for an Amish market and this place popped up so I thought I would check it out. On the outside it looks kind of big and sprawling. Like you think you were going in Walmart. They have some cool little artifacts and kitschy stuff outside. You walk in and they funnel you through this weird little alcove that has some refrigerators and food in it and I was thinking that was very weird. They also have some soft serve hard candy that you bag and weigh yourself. When you walk inside this is the gold mine of Bulk Foods. I love these places. I love Bulk Foods. I get so much crap that I don't need but I can't help myself. They also had a bakery and I think they were serving some hot food but I didn't try it. I did get two rolls of Amish butter and some almond cheese. They also had a bakery and everything looked pretty good. The store was very Full of stuff. Like it looked big on the outside but it was not big on the inside and the isles are small and there's a lot of people inside so it was almost a bit claustrophobic. There's people milling around in front of the hot food counter ordering their food and there's no way you could have a shopping cart in there so you have to hold one of those arm baskets which gets very heavy very quickly. The people that work there were fairly friendly and I don't even care about all those other things because this is a kick ass amish store and I love them.

This review is for their baked goods. They're usually available at the Huber Heights farmer's market on saturdays. Everything i've had was delicious. Their banana breads and zuccini breads are moist and dense. Their cherry pies are not too sweet. Their blackberry pies are also good, but if you don't want seeds, get something else. That's normal when you eat fresh blackberries!

I can't believe all that's in here, so much variety around every corner. You can shop to fill your pantry, fridge, freezer and get something freshly made to eat when you get home like hearty chicken noodle soup. It was so good. Look at this size of the pumpkins for sale, there're HUGE! This Amish store is jam packed with variety and friendly staff to help you.

So disappointed with the hot cross buns. Way too much frosting and no candied fruit in them, just raisins.

I hail from Northeast Ohio,…read morewhere apple picking is a quintessential fall activity that takes place in late September through October. So imagine my disappointment when last October I went hunting for an apple orchard in the greater Cincinnati area only to discover every single one had sold out of u-pick apples by the end of the first weekend of the month. Um, what?! So this year I was determined to get my apple picking in, even if that meant going in the second week of September. Which I did, right here at Monnin Fruit Farm. This place is out in the country as it should be and has a great variety of apples to choose from. When we went, the honey crisp were already nearly gone, but they'd just opened up the winesap rows. We got some of everything, from Fuji to golden delicious to macintosh. You buy by the half bushel or the bushel; prices aren't posted but this year the half bushel is $20. Cash or check only! Be sure to check out the store as well. On our way out we grabbed a dozen free range eggs, some apple butter and a bag of toffee. They've also got local milk, meat products and other produce. Monnin gets high marks for 1) actually having apples, 2) posting u-pick information on Facebook, 3) their awesome store and 4) knowledgeable staff. Minus one star for a confusing map/flag system for identifying apple varieties, and only two sizes for buying apples. Didn't really need a whole half bushel but you can bet I filled that bag! Would be nice to pay by weight or have a smaller size. Overall, this place scratched my apple-picking itch. Great way to kick off fall. Now, who's ready for apple pie?
