I couldn't wait to write a review on this place, and if I had a chance to give zero stars I would. I took my car in for a smog check and it had the "check engine" light on which had been on for a few months but not affecting the performance of the car. Well little did I know when you have that light on in your car its an automatic fail. The attendant knew that and did the smog anyway only to fail me so they could get some money. To make matters worse he gives me this printout with little to no information and kept saying "fail" "fail". The guy had a bad attitude to which always pissing me off because I am spending money at your establishment, and now I have to scramble and figure out the issue and dish out more money. Id rather spend triple the amount to get a smog done elsewhere, I don't even want to drive past this place I left so pissed off. ANYONE WHO READS THIS DO NOT GO TO THIS FACILITY, ITS SHADY, THEY WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND LOOK FOR VARIOUS WAYS TO FAIL YOU. Great prices for smog tests. I've been coming here for a few years now and each time it's quick service. They did my test in under 10 minutes and sent all my information regarding the test to the dmv. It is a hit or miss when calling the shop, I called twice and no one answered. I used this place twice because I found their ad in the Pennysaver and wanted to save a few bucks. With all the smog test options in the area, there's no reason to go here. They're super nit picky, and if you're looking for a "pay for pass" place this is definitely NOT it. But that's not my problem with it- I'd rather get a legit smog than go to a shady place and put off my problems til later. My problem is that these guys were going to fail me because they said my aftermarket intake was the wrong model for my car. I disagreed with the guy because I did the homework on the intake before I installed it. I can see where other reviewers said the guy is rude, but I think that's more cultural differences. Long story short I wound up commandeering the dude's computer and scrolling down two clicks on the website he was on, where it said my intake was acceptable. And that's my big problem with this place. You're not super polite? I can live with that. Your standards are super strict? It's a smog check- that's their job. But how many people have they needlessly failed? How many times have they sent people away to get unnecessary repairs in order to pass? If you're going to be obstinate about going by the book, make sure you're referencing the right page. One more thing... the dude said they were failing me on the intake. Then after I cleared that up, the told me I was failing anyway. Because they thought a hose was the wrong size. The exact same hose that was on the exact same intake I had when they passed it the last time I went to this place for a smog check. With the Pennysaver they are the cheapest smog check in the area. Unfortunately, I won't be using them anymore because if they ever fail my car again, I can't be sure whether it actually failed or if it was an oversight on their part. read more

What you need to know about the "Pass or Free Retest" deal he offers before you go. To clarify, you only have "1 WEEK" from your first test to get the free retest. If you've got extensive work that needs to be done and you can't get it all done before the week, no free retest. Additionally you only get 1 free retest. If it fails a second time you've got to pay for the whole test all over again. What I find frustratingly deceptive about this is that you don't see any mention of the 1 week limitation or that it is only 1 free retest anywhere in his office, his banner outside or on the contract that you sign. You only find this out AFTER he has ran your test and failed you and has your money. THEN he gives you the DMV report with a RED stamp that says "Free retest within one week $11.25 ($8.25 the smog certificate and $3 electronic transfer fee) that HE signs and holds you to it as if you signed and agreed to it from the beginning. He sees nothing wrong with not explaining the limited terms of his free retest program until after the fact. Cheapest place to go in Covina if you're using his Pennysaver coupon and you are sure you are going to pass. If you know or think you have smog passing problems... have a check engine light on etc. you need to get your smog problems figured out via a mechanic first and be sure that your check engine light problem is fixed BEFORE you take it to him or any other smog station. Also be aware that if your battery has died or if you had to jump your car recently that that resets the computer and you'll need to drive @ 200 miles before you take it in for the test. He may be the cheapest around but definitely not upfront about his Pass or Free Retest deal. My experience with him left me feeling like I had been tricked / cheated. When I explained my frustration with him and how it was deceptive of him to operate as he does, it was clear he didn't feel the same and was not willing to do anything to try and make it right. Now I clearly let him know that this was the situation at hand in my car. (He knows because I love my car, I love driving, so like I was really excited & I was actually explaining to him what a bummer it was that my battery died but how happy I was gonna b after my car passed smog because then I could drive it once again! I really missed my car, you know? Anyways, knowing that my battery had died and I jump started my car to get here, the man proceeded to run the smog check. He came back in and didn't just said &22.xx (I don't remember the actual amount precisely) & drive 200 miles the CPU needs to run miles & then said come back within a week for a retest. I was just like... FORREALS? haha but whatever I wasn't too upset yet you know just chillin. So I go to the AAA and get a moving permit so I could run 200 miles in my car. (This parts not that important so I'll fast forward to the part where I return) So i come back and the dude gives me HEAVY attitude. TL;DR just go elsewhere for a hassle free experience. read more

No frills Smog Check only center located in an area of Covina that seemed to be filled with body shops. I came here and got a smog check for a car because of a coupon that saved me about $5. Total for the smog check was $31.24. First come first served, I was the second in line. The smog check did take a bit, but the guy was nice enough about it to apologize for the wait. Credit cards are accepted and plenty of parking in their lot. Their waiting area was nothing more than a couple of miscellaneous chairs out in front of the office. I have been here a few times for couple of my personal vehicles to get a smog test and the lady sitting has told me that the machine isnt working come back next month. However they have signage up stating they perform smogs. I dont think they have a license anymore and i will be reporting them to the city and the BAR. read more

AKRAME IBRAHIM put his hands on me when he did not like that I took a business card because I told him I would leave him a bad review for false advertising. Crap service. Had to get an E.O. "decal" from manufacture for an aftermarket cold air intake, no problem. Attendant didn't even know what was mandated by the State of CA. Ignorant people, even accused that decal from manufacturer was forged. Which nearly got him in bigger problems than he would care for. read more

Waste of money. The guy inspected my vehicle and told me my CARB sticker on my intake had a corner torn off. Thats all he said. He didnt say i needed to have it fixed. He proceeded with the computer test. Came back with the paper saying I failed. The reason I failed was because the corner of the sticker was torn. He just wanted my money. I took it down the street and passed. They looked up the carb sticker online and verified the part and CARB number. The guy gave me the number to call and had the company send me out a new sticker for the intake. I passed smog and have a new sticker on my intake thanks to taking it somewhere else who was willing to assist their customers. If you want people who will just take your money and fail you for any reason then take your vehicle here. If you want a smog place that will assist their customers in passing and make it an easy experience then take it somewhere else. read more

They were fast in service. No one was there and the place is small and dumpy. It was awkward,as an elderly woman (I'm assuming was the mother or grandmother) sat in the office while I waited (assuming she doesn't speak English). The one and only guy doing the work and working the desk at the same time,talked me into an air filter. Which wasn't a problem except that a month later when I took my car into pep boys for some issues,they showed me the filter and it was jammed in so haphazardly and forceful it was broken and bent to hell. I forget to keep the filter to show the worker...not so much for the $5 I spent,but to bring up the lousy workmanship and total disregard for my property and/or safety. Don't go here. Took my truck. Didn't pass due to aftermarket catalytic converters. Explained I had them done 3 years ago and it passed 2 years ago. Also had paperwork to show it was the correct replacement. Upon review of failed certificate I advised the tester he put in the wrong model for my vehicle and requested he input it correctly and retest. He refused and stated he didn't have the time to listen and that my paperwork from the state website was wrong. Long story short. Had to take half day off work for a referee to tell me that HAD he ran the correct model, like I asked, there would have been no problem. Tester was rude and confrontational with me. Human error I can accept. Rudeness impatience and refusing to work with a customer I can not. Please don't send your wife or girlfriend here. FYI. My truck is a Silverado with a 5.3. NEVER EVER USE THIS FACILITY!!! Not only was he rude, but the attendant gave me a print out for the wrong vehicle... When I went back to get the correct paperwork, he was very defensive, and accused me of giving him wrong information. Keep your paperwork close! Been coming here for a while, but now that the owner is pretty busy, he uses his mother? to help out in the front. She took my DMV paper and I filled out the form he provided. Smog check went fine and my vehicle passed, but when I got home I realized that the notice from the DMV wasn't with the paperwork he gives you at the end. I know they had it because they use the barcode on it to enter the vehicle information into their machine! I should have known the keep an eye on the paperwork because when I was waiting another guy came in and asked if they had his DMV notice! Sheesh! I returned the next day and asked him for the notice that was left behind and he said he didn't have it and that I didn't need it. It IS needed because on the notice is a five digit code that allows one to pay online. He kept saying I didn't need it but when I got home I verified that it was needed in order to pay online. If you're anywhere near Covina and need to get a STAR smog test done quick, this is the place to come! I brought my car in on a Friday afternoon and there was no waiting at all, they took me right away. I got my oil changed while I was there, the price was very reasonable for both services, and they were nice enough to have free can sodas while I waited. Plus they have really comfortable lounge chairs in the shade outside and the man who helped me was nice and professional as could be to help me pass first time. And if you don't pass for whatever reason, you get a free retest. I will definitely be coming back. read more

I have been coming here 3 time. The owner is very friendly and honest. he does his Job the right way. I have a 2000 Chevy Silverado with 250,000 miles. Every time i come the test result is Pass. They have the best price in town. I have tried other places and seem the always want to upsell you on things that are not necessary. This place is you pass or you fail. If you car fails the Smog Test is because it needs repairs and Akram will not B.S you. You just have to fix you car with a trust worthy repair shop. For the other people complaining.... you should do your homework before you take your vehicle for a Smog Test.... "Check Engine Light on" it will Not Pass... This goes for you Terry J. Don't be cheap and fix you car before you do a smog check. Any after market performance accessories you are taking your chances. Some automakers even void your warranties if not installed professionally. If you car is running normal and every thing if your car is stock with out aftermarket upgrades this is the place to go. He will charge you about $37 for the smog check and passed certification. If your car failed and bring it back 2nd time, he will charge you about $12 more for retest and certification. There's no such thing of pass or free retest or $19.99 coupon anymore. Drove my 1990 Toyota Dolphin motor home to Covina Test Only. The manager was very friendly, tested the motor home in 15 minutes and the bill came to $50.00.
