Upon admitting a friend to this facility we were told that I could call for status updates. I am her acting Medical Power of Attorney & Patient Advocate. A Release of Information was signed for me to obtain updates on her status. Since her arrival, I've called every day trying to obtain a status update. Not once have I received a return phone call. I provided the necessary patient ID #, which you are to provide when calling. This was pretty useless. My friend was a voluntary admit on a 72 hour hold. Documents were signed for her to be released at the appointed 72 hours. Be forewarned. If you choose to be admitted on a Voluntary 72 hr hold make sure you sign the 72 hour release documentation upon admit. It will take two physicians to declare you "Mentally Stable" in order to be released. Don't overlook this documentation. The patient, my friend was to be placed in the detox unit. When I finally was able to speak to her I was told she was on the psychiatric ward. This is unacceptable. She witness incidences she should not have. She is non-confrontational. During a group session inpatients were confrontational. She bowed out and went back to the safety of her room. Later, when she was asked why she left the group she told them she "does not do confrontation". This was an appropriate reaction from my friend. I'm not sure where the communication breakdown is, but it needs to be addressed. While I am aware that can be very overwhelming for personnel to attend to inpatient needs, it is their responsibility to keep loved ones informed. I have been a patient advocate for many years. I'm well aware of how to navigate the healthcare system and well-versed in what the laws are. I believe facility needs to improve their communication efforts and/ or be held accountable. read more

This is my review from October 21, 2024. I brought my grandson there for detoxification when I first went in to the admittance area. I just didn't feel comfortable because of the way they handled him coming in! He was there a couple of days, and I received a call from one of the social workers by the name of Carmen who wasn't too clear on what she was asking me. The second day I received another call from his therapist and his name was Thomas. I can say Thomas was extremely knowledgeable. He answered all my questions. He was very informed about Chris and what he thought the action should be during his stay there! Now I will get to the best part. The next day I was called and they told me that they were going to release Christopher after four days of detox. Christopher would be released Saturday them knowing well that he was supposed to be transferred on Monday to a rehabilitation for 28 days. They told me if someone did not come get him they would take him to a shelter and drop him off! Someone in assisting his transfer did not know exactly what she was talking about, and could not answer my questions. Now! How is an addict supposed to get well when he was discharged after four days and the idiot that called me and told me that he was discharged, did not even know he was supposed to be going to a rehab Monday morning! Sometimes I wonder about these facilities. My grandson has told me that when he is in one, he gets nothing from it! I'm starting to believe this, because the facilities in Louisiana, are not worth of crap!!! If you have a choice, do not send them here not from the experience that I have had in the last couple of days. The only one there was his therapist that he called Thomas. Hello I just wanted to shine the light on Covington Behavioral. I am a Navy veteran and was in the vet program. The staff was wonderful the always treated us with respect, kindness, attention. The social workers, nurses, techs, recreation therapist and front office all care about the patients that go there. Even though there job is definitely hard and stressful. There was always something that we did. Either group about recovery or mental health issues. They even had dogs to come and cheer us up. That was the thing they know we be counting the days before we get out. It was fun at times and it got real alot it was always a balance. True professionalism from everyone there. My daughter is currently admitted in the adolescent unit. Staff seem very confused about the rules, particularly phone times. You can't call and speak to your child but instead you can leave a message and hope your child returns your call. When they do allow phone times it's only for 10 minutes a day. As a social worker myself, we in the mental health community should be fostering healthy relationships with children's families, not limiting or discouraging them. Additionally, the only time I received phone calls from staff was to update me on medication changes. Staff were rude. Seems more like "A matter of fact" call opposed to a discussion. I don't think this facility is helping my daughter, but rather keeping her medicated. Since they started the new medication, my daughter complains of lethargy and auditory hallucinations which she has NEVER complained of before. If I could give a zero, I would. read more

The staff is definitely extremely lazy. Something I saw was that they let kids do their work for them and treated certain kids better than others (letting them have access to the tech's phones) They were also very rude. You couldn't really tell the techs from the kids, some were immature. some of the nurses don't really care about the kids' needs, though some were nice. One med-nurse was very controlling. We basically just watched TV. They didn't really care about your mental health, the boys mingled with the girls, developed crushes, some even had romantic relationships. There was always so much drama but all they did was send us to our rooms for a very long time to deal with it. They just didn't take into consideration the people's feelings. Even if you told them you couldn't take a medication, they'd still insist on trying it. They always sent me home after like 4 days, not telling my step-mom, making her come at like midnight 'cause they didn't tell her in advance they'd just decide I was "stabilized" when I knew I wasn't. How is this hell of a place still open? Everything that happens here is terrible. Know that the staff doesn't care about ANYTHING. The paperwork is forged with fake therapy sessions, false nutritional information, and false activity completion. All they want is to keep patients in beds to get as much money from the insurance companies as they can. The staff films the patients and posts videos on Snapchat, even FaceTimes friends while walking around showing off manic residents and laughing. When the outside therapists said to avoid this "hospital" at all costs, you know it's bad. Wish I would have gotten that information sooner. It's a glorified baby sitting service. Anyone that has an issue at this hospital needs to contact the Louisiana Department of Health, Board of Psychiatrists, Department of Justice, and Board of Psychologists or Social Workers to report the ongoing unethical negligence in this hospital. I mistakenly took my daughter here after I let NAMI and Start Clinic talked me into taking her here. This place is a nightmare and can flip anyone's life upside down. This place is terrible. Think of going to another place for mental help. The nurses sit at the desk and act like they are too busy looking at facebook than to actually help the patient. The mental health techs are rude and would rather talk to each other about their weekend than to actually do the job they are getting paid for. There were two patients having sex in the gym bathroom and one had an STD. The tech found them after another patient told the tech to take a look. Very unsafe environment. NO Dr onsite after 8 or 9 am everyone there is a nurse practitioner who have an overwhelming workload. There are numerous other places around the NorthShore, pick one of those for yourself or a loved one. This place should be shut down. There was a guy in intake that worked there who kept asking people for klonopin because he was out of his. This was crazy I think his name was colin or something like that. I sure wouldnt bring my medications with me knowing they have access to my medication where it could get "lost". Hope this helps in your decision, for me, I will never go there again. read more

I just spent the week in this hospital and it needs much improvement. The nurses aren't accommodating or friendly to patient's needs. The techs were very helpful and Ms. Sharon (part of social services was great) but other than that the staff is very lazy. They stay on their phones and you have to ask multiple times to get anything done. The particular doctor I saw rushed through every meeting that I saw her and did not want to give me anxiety medication that I desperately need. She released me from the hospital with no anxiety medicine and knowing that I still was suffering from extreme anxiety. Majority of the stay is spent sleeping, eating, and watching tv. They definitely need more groups and activities for patients. I have been to much better hospitals. read more

This place is horrible. When I called to check on my girlfriend they kept redirecting me back and forth throughout the different units and saying she wasn't here when in fact she was because I brought her here. Then when someone finally says she's here in her room they let me leave a message but I can't communicate with her. The line is disconnected so when I call the same exact unit they once again said SHE WASNT HERE! Like what I just called 15 seconds earlier!! Their rosters and paperwork is complete bull. This place is horrible and I am currently waiting outside hopefully getting a call from her and make sure they are doing or saying some crazy things to her. This place is by far the worst medical center I've ever witnessed. Someone should file legal inquires into this place immediately. read more
