You have mixed expectations when eating at a place with "cow palace" as its moniker, However the establishment was surprisingly decent. Had the Melt Down with onion rings and the melt was not greasy at all, and included the grilled onion and a huge patty. It was a bit bland though which was the only thing I can say that could be improved upon. The onion rings were obligingly crunchy and tasty.

First time here, got breakfast, wow a very pleasant surprise! Have you ever had, or even heard of a steak and cheese omelet? I hadn't but they make it here, absolutely delicious, like a steak and cheese sub, only nice fluffy eggs in place of the bread! This came with hash brown potatoes which were a bit crunchy, also delicious and toast. Ate the whole thing. Also ordered biscuits and sausage gravy which were delicious, but too much to finish, took them home. I will definitely be back here again.

The place is packed at 9:30a

With a name like cow Palace, you should already have an idea of what you're gonna get. This is a real country home-cooked breakfast place with a cow auction next-door, and the ambience is exactly what you'd expect. The food and prices are very good, and the bacon is no joke - it's thick cut just the way you like it.

Cow Palace was exactly what you would expect from down home cooking. Good, fresh and fast! They were fast to get our order (which was correct the first time), bring drinks (fresh yummy sweet tea), and as I sat there looking at the horses in the field across the street they made very good food. Friendly wait staff! Seems to be a local hang out for the people to go grab a quick bite and catch up too. When we walked in the ladies were super friendly, told us to sit where we wanted. The back table was full of a few of the local gentlemen who smiled and got back to their morning catching up. We sat down the lovely waitress got our orders. One of the sweetest things happened when we were there. A lovely lady came in and sat down. She was alone. The waitress spoke with her for a few minutes and they caught up on how everyone was doing like they were friends. I feel this place is just that. Very friendly, very busy, and the food was not overpriced. The restaurant is next to the sales barn. On sale days I bet you cannot find a parking spot and it is so very full of the workers and those selling livestock. Just a little tip that I bet they are super busy on the weekends! I need to go back again and take pictures of my food. Please forgive me for being remiss of that duty.

We stopped here for breakfast as the place we originally went to was closed on Sunday. This was combined with a meat wholesale place I think. The other dooe lead there. A popular place, we got breakfast of course. Shana got French Toast with sausage patties I got eggs sunny side up, sausage patties, bacon, and bone in ham. That came with toast and hash browns. The sausage was great, bacon was good, ham was good. Eggs were alright. Shana says the French Toast was even better then it looked. Soda only comes bottles or cans. No refills. Everything was good to great. Right off the highway but parking is limited. The bill was low considering how much and how good the food was and how quickly it arrived. Staff was friendly and fast. They had a TV going with some news program with Chris Christie but that fits the area we were in. Shana used the bathroom. They were clean but small. They had several wall displays of foreign money near the register. It was neat. Overall a good place with good food especially for the cost and good service. Recommend if your in the area.

Excellent Good home cooked meal is always hard to beat. The waitress was great. I had the hamburger steak (brown gravy & grilled onions ), french fries and a trip to the salad bar. Everything was just as it should be. The meat was cooked to perfection and the onions and gravy topped it off. When in Gonzales, Texas go to the Cow Palace restaurant. Go get Full

We decided to eat here because it had good reviews. We pulled up and we're surprised because it's in the county livestock building. We were a little hesitant but decided to try it anyway. So glad we did! Our server, Antonio was AMAZING! He took great care of us and works so hard. I feel like he's going to do great things. Our food was delicious and they were huge portions. I got the enchiladas and my husband got the chicken fried chicken special. Everything had great flavors and it was so cheap! If I was local I'd be a regular. We will definitely be back if we are ever in town again.

Cow Palace Breakfast Taco! Bacon, egg, cheese, potato.

Great big breakfast taco and great service!!!! Would get this again!!!! Busy restaurant and no waiting line. Could not have expected any better for a hungry crowd on a Sunday morning! Clean by the way!

Great home-style cooking if you're driving through Gonzales and looking for somewhere to grab a bite. It is not fancy by any means but they serve up some delicious food. The restaurant is full of regulars so if you're from out of town you may get a few stares across the room but the food and service are amazing. My burger was expertly prepared and so tasty. The kids loved the Mac n cheese. Overall, a solid restaurant for a great meal and delicious comfort food.

The perfect steak finger plate. Tender chicken fried steak fingers, Texas toast, hand cut fries, and an extra side of brown gravy.

The sautéed veggies were also an amazing side and has complimented the combo tremendously. I didn't need to use steak sauce at all to cherish the red meat. A small slice at a time plus a little veggie forkful was all it took to have this 5-star taste experience. Add tasty grilled shrimp to palate next. The ambience was great although I think I am starting to get too old for the volume of music at amazing joints like this. I should know better coz it's a sports bar. But I'm fine nonetheless. I heard that their signature Margherita pizza is the star of the show. I should have that next year when I come back to Gonzales. Kayleigh, my server, was top notch. Incredible experience being in downtown Gonzales TX for the first time. A rain storm took me here by destiny. God is good coz I was able to find a church downtown for 4pm worship, then after that while waiting for the rain storm to diminish, gave me the best excuse to have early dinner at this amazing historic restaurant -- I believe a well-deserved stopover after a tiring but fruitful time teaching Redemption at my 8th Royal Rangers PowWow in Halletsville. You place your order and then take a seat and when they bring out your food, you get a little pocket to put cash into to pay whatever you want. The food was great and it benefits addiction recovery. I went for breakfast and had a 3-meat omlette which I actually couldn't even finish cause I was full. Our Tuesday brunch at Sunken Gardens:…read more Dude. Delicious is not enough to describe the food and drink. Here's how it works. It's a buffet style of delicacies but they charge by the pound. It was $7.99/lb. Put what you want on your plate. There's so much to choose from. You can have it to stay or there's to-go containers. There's cold and hot options and plenty of entrees. Dessert is limited to cobblers. I highly recommend the sweet and spicy beef, the catfish, and the jalapeño-cheese beefsteak. Same goes for the tuna salad, crab salad, and zucchini salad. The pasta salad I could give or take because it was al dente. Wife had the meatloaf and it was gooood. Same goes for the chicken strips. The sides were all freshly made (macaroni, rice, etc), and we weren't disappointed with any of it. The rolls were also good but not sweet or anything. They were basic, but that was a good thing because I didn't want anything competing with the food flavors. We also got some cobblers (one pecan and one blackberry, but there were others). I prefer crispy cobbler and this one was doughy and dense. Some like it that way though. I will say that the flavor was good and refreshing, despite being dense. Despite having indulged ourselves at the neighboring Friday's the night before (see previous review), we woke up famished. Having no food available at Shinerville Coffeehouse (see review because they were so nice and even pointed us here), we wound up eating at the Garden. It turned out to be a great experience. At $8 a pound plus $2 for drinks and a tip, we paid around $40, but our plates were laden from side to side. We greedily ate all of it. I forgot about the mozzarella spinach. Get that. Drink options were typical sodas and four ice teas, or (free?) fruit-infused water from a cistern. The teas were also in cisterns. There were four options: a red unsweetened eucalyptus tea that I liked, unsweetened, sweetened, and peach. We got the peach. There's only to-go cups and refills are free, so you're welcome to take some for the road. The atmosphere: Inside it was cool and crisp. The noise level was moderately low and they had good music. Blackbird was playing at one point. Being that it was such a nice day, we opted to eat on the covered wrap around porch that overlooked the Spoetzl Brewery. Btw (in terms of distance) with a good driver and the wind at my back, I could hit the brewery with a golf ball from the parking lot of this place. The restrooms were unisex, as you'd expect for a small establishment like this, and very clean. The people: Staff were excellent, accommodating and knowledgeable. The manager took the time to speak to me for a bit in between rushes, but a wave of people came in so I didn't hold her up. Back on the porch, a young male staff member engaged us in some more conversation and we spoke a bit about Texas history. He is very, very proud of our state and our history - both eager to share and learn. On our way out I met a cook named Mike (easy for me to remember). He was tossing a box with a cool dragon graphic and let me keep it. He also let me fill our carrying-sized igloo with ice. Mike is ex-military like me and it was fun swapping "war stories." He started cooking when he was in the military and is a native Shiner (I gotta figure out what they call the denizens of Shiner). The patrons were also very nice and easily exchanged pleasantries and held doors for one another, which is one of the coolest parts about being a Texan - but is especially so in Shiner. Friendly and unintrusive is the best I can describe. We left full and satisfied in many ways. The pictures are of some cool views I saw. One is their electrical boxes outside, which are painted uniquely, despite being outside of clear view. Just another example of the grooviness that's the prevalent, unspoken expectation of the township. It really speaks to the spirit of the town. We also took pictures of our food before we devoured it.

The restaurant is cafeteria-style, with everything priced at $8.99 per pound, which we didn't expect but ended up working great for our family since everyone could choose exactly what they wanted. The food tasted homemade, and the salad bar was especially impressive with lots of fresh options. The chicken tenders were a big hit with the kids, and we couldn't resist trying the cherry cobbler for dessert, which was delicious. If you're passing through Shiner and looking for a casual, satisfying meal, this is a great stop.
