My friend insisted we go here for lunch because he was raving about "the best burger in town." I immediately hit him with, "But I'm a vegetarian!" Lol. Pulling up to Roadhouse felt like I was about to film a low-budget country music video. The aggressively unpretentious energy was immaculate. The all-dirt parking lot said everything! No curated patio, no aesthetic succulents just straight up vibes and dust. The place was packed at 1 p.m. Our server, Raven, took great care of us from the jump. Rave was very efficient, friendly, and had zero attitude. We ordered a basket of fries, a portobello mushroom burger for me, a cheeseburger, a Philly cheesesteak, upgraded side salads, and, of course, their famous carrot cake to share. Now, let me confess something: As a Californian, I walked in with absolutely zero expectations given the facade. And yet... the fries were perfect. The portobello burger was juicy, well-seasoned, and very satisfying! My friends inhaled their cheeseburger and Philly like they were participating in a competitive sport. Lol. And don't even get me started with their carrot cake. It was disrespectfully delicious! This was seriously the most humbling "don't judge a book by its cover" moment I've had in a while. After a nice but hot hike at Bastrop State Park, this place was conveniently located just outside the park. It can accommodate large parties, and has a large parking lot. The food is what you'd expect from an American roadside eatery (in a good way). Burgers, salads, sandwiches, fried pickles and chili cheese fries. The soft drinks and waters are self-serve (talk about efficient)! The food came out fairly quickly for our large group of nine. The food was fresh and made to order. Hadn't been to Roadhouse in a while and decided to stop by on a Sunday for lunch. Got there around 11:30, before it got too busy luckily. Since they have expanded and use the space next door there is now much more inside seating. Burgers are still 10/10- always flavorful, juicy and cooked just right. The sourdough bun is what makes it I always get the sweet potato fries because they are crispy and perfectly salted and worth the extra $1.50 upcharge. Staff are friendly and service was quick, especially for the day/hour. I'll be adding Roadhouse back into my Bastrop restaurant rotations. read more

We were driving through Bastrop which we do periodically. We decided to try this place which we never had heard of. It's almost a stereotypical roadhouse, certainly not fancy. I decided to live dangerously and ordered a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich. My partner ordered a BLT with avocado. It took a while to get our food but the place was pretty busy for lunch. Our waitress was nicely attentive and brought us waters very quickly. We don't mind waiting a bit for good food and we were not disappointed. Both sandwiches were excellent. My Cheesesteak was really tasty with enough meat, veggies and meat to be just right. There was a lot of nice, thicker than usual bacon on the BLT. Both sandwiches came with fries. I'm very picky about fries and these were piping hot, crisp and delicious. We'll definitely go back next time we're driving through Bastrop. read more

The burger was good-the fries were crispy well done. I went back for lunch with a former co-worker and decided to get the the best burger: their jalapeno cream cheese burger. I chose to get the grilled jalapenos and it was a good mix with the slab of cream cheese and a giant pile of fries. Both times, the burger patty was large, well-seasoned and tasty. I could see why it was voted one of the best burgers. Every visit, service has been friendly and quick. My second visit I got a lot of refills. A LOT. Each time my server asked if I wanted a refill and at the end when I tabulated how many glasses of Coke I had (6) passed 0 judgement and even gave me a to-go cup. It took a while to get our food and my friend's order wasn't what they requested. However, I took the extra veggies. Now one thing for gluten-free people: their buns are not gluten-free, and they didn't even seem to be sourdough. My friend liked theirs but I could not risk eating a super springy bun. Bummer. Didn't find any pictures or reviews of their pork chop, so gave it a try. Decently grilled and seasoned, but not brined. I prefer brined for a better texture, less chance of dryness; however, their chop was solid: not dry (almost dry), not tough. Not the best grilled pork chop I've had, but I am picky, and it is good for a burger joint. Next time I may try their burgers instead, because that's what they are known for. After seeing their slider, it may be a better choice if their burgers are too big for some folks. They also had a vegan portabello mushroom burger. Kinda weird to see someone eat a giant shroom head shoved into a bun, but the person who ate it seemed to like it. Their sweet potato fries were great: not soggy, not too greasy, and not starchy. Their salads were average, what you'd expect from a burger joint. They only used iceberg lettuce in all their salads, not even romaine. That's usually a deal breaker for me. Me and my coworkers decided to try a local resturaunt around the area and notice that a lot of people were headed here for lunch, so we decided to try it out. The business had a huge parking area for everyone and it was easy to find. Once we arrived the ambiance had a small town vibe to it and the staff welcomed us! We were driving through on the way to an appointment and the restaurant immediately caught our eye. We both said "I bet that place is good."
