Decided to stop here because we saw it while driving through Bastrop. There was no wait and we were told to sit wherever we wanted. I decided to get the jalapeño cream cheese burger. You get to chose the type of bread. I chose the jalapeño cheese bread which was soft and tasty. The burger patty tasted like it was a frozen store bought one and was undercooked. The grilled jalapeños with the cream cheese saved the burger. The fries tasted old and lacked flavor. My wife had the bacon cheese burger. The bacon had a weird texture and tasted disgusting. Tasted like it was microwaved. The patty was overcooked and extremely dry. Once again the patty appeared to be a frozen store bought patty. Overall the burgers were overpriced based on the quality of the burgers we received. We were disappointed. read more

We finally made it out to Roadhouse in Bastrop and it absolutely lives up to the hype as a classic, old-school burger joint. The rustic, wood-sided building gives it a really comfortable and unpretentious Texas feel. We shared their famous Jalapeño Cream Cheese Burger on a sourdough bun and it was incredibly juicy and flavorful. Stopped here after hearing several great reviews of this place and their award winning burger from 2009. The jalepeno appetizer was excellent, the beef chili was also very good. The 2009 award winning jalepeno and cream cheese burger apparently stayed in 2009. The 2026 version is a frozen dry patty that did not impress. The fries were very good. read more

Came for dinner and it was just ok. There were lots of flies inside and dead ones in the window. Not what you want to look at while eating. The burger for some reason tasted like it was a frozen patty and was thin. My son enjoyed his kids burger so that's a plus! We also got the bacon wrapped jalapenos. Some had bacon around them and others had bacon beside them. They were actually pretty good and large jalapenos. Our server was very nice and attentive. Rave was very efficient, friendly, and had zero attitude. We ordered a basket of fries, a portobello mushroom burger for me, a cheeseburger, a Philly cheesesteak, upgraded side salads, and, of course, their famous carrot cake to share. Now, let me confess something: As a Californian, I walked in with absolutely zero expectations given the facade. And yet... the fries were perfect. The portobello burger was juicy, well-seasoned, and very satisfying! My friends inhaled their cheeseburger and Philly like they were participating in a competitive sport. Lol. And don't even get me started with their carrot cake. It was disrespectfully delicious! This was seriously the most humbling "don't judge a book by its cover" moment I've had in a while. I had the chili cheeseburger on the sweet sourdough bun, and it did not disappoint! Tasted like my daddy had grilled it on the grill on the back porch and brought it in for me fresh to eat. Sweet potato fries were crispy and hot, and we got a piece of carrot cake to go. Carrot cake was not the three layer that you may be used to, it's a flat carrot cake made in a sheet pan, but it was still good! We also got the avocado BLT. Also delicious and recommended. Fresh lemonade, not too sweet, just right. Don't let this pass you by! Next time I'm going to try the jalapeño cream cheeseburger, it's number 38 on Texas's Top 50 best burgers. Hadn't been to Roadhouse in a while and decided to stop by on a Sunday for lunch. Got there around 11:30, before it got too busy luckily. Since they have expanded and use the space next door there is now much more inside seating. Burgers are still 10/10- always flavorful, juicy and cooked just right. The sourdough bun is what makes it I always get the sweet potato fries because they are crispy and perfectly salted and worth the extra $1.50 upcharge. Staff are friendly and service was quick, especially for the day/hour. I'll be adding Roadhouse back into my Bastrop restaurant rotations. read more

After a nice but hot hike at Bastrop State Park, this place was conveniently located just outside the park. It can accommodate large parties, and has a large parking lot. The soft drinks and waters are self-serve (talk about efficient)! The food came out fairly quickly for our large group of nine. The food was fresh and made to order. We were driving through Bastrop which we do periodically. We decided to try this place which we never had heard of. It's almost a stereotypical roadhouse, certainly not fancy. I decided to live dangerously and ordered a Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich. My partner ordered a BLT with avocado. It took a while to get our food but the place was pretty busy for lunch. Our waitress was nicely attentive and brought us waters very quickly. We don't mind waiting a bit for good food and we were not disappointed. Both sandwiches were excellent. My Cheesesteak was really tasty with enough meat, veggies and meat to be just right. There was a lot of nice, thicker than usual bacon on the BLT. Both sandwiches came with fries. I'm very picky about fries and these were piping hot, crisp and delicious. We'll definitely go back next time we're driving through Bastrop. read more

I chose to get the grilled jalapenos and it was a good mix with the slab of cream cheese and a giant pile of fries. Both times, the burger patty was large, well-seasoned and tasty. I could see why it was voted one of the best burgers. Every visit, service has been friendly and quick. My second visit I got a lot of refills. A LOT. Each time my server asked if I wanted a refill and at the end when I tabulated how many glasses of Coke I had (6) passed 0 judgement and even gave me a to-go cup. Didn't find any pictures or reviews of their pork chop, so gave it a try. Decently grilled and seasoned, but not brined. I prefer brined for a better texture, less chance of dryness; however, their chop was solid: not dry (almost dry), not tough. Not the best grilled pork chop I've had, but I am picky, and it is good for a burger joint. Next time I may try their burgers instead, because that's what they are known for. After seeing their slider, it may be a better choice if their burgers are too big for some folks. They also had a vegan portabello mushroom burger. Kinda weird to see someone eat a giant shroom head shoved into a bun, but the person who ate it seemed to like it. Their sweet potato fries were great: not soggy, not too greasy, and not starchy. The business had a huge parking area for everyone and it was easy to find. Once we arrived the ambiance had a small town vibe to it and the staff welcomed us! I ended up ordering the Jalapeño Cream Cheese Burger, and let me tell you! It tastes as good as it sounds. I ordered it on a sourdough bun and had it served with half regular fries and half sweet potato fries. The presentation was great and so was the taste.
