I made calls to a couple places near Annapolis listed on the state Department of Agriculture's seafood Web site and was fortunate to find Maryland Crab & Oyster. It's off the beaten path on a farm just south of Edgewater, but well worth a visit for the price, quality and service. The guy running it, Warren, gets his product from Crisfield on the Eastern Shore. He was very generous in packing as many crabs as he could into the bushel basket, and brought me back to the storage shed while he sorted them out. It was only $150 for a bushel of No. 1s -- about $50 less than what some of the markets were charging. It kept our crowd of about 30 people happy and well-fed with enough left over to make crab cakes for 10 the next day. He can steam them for you, too, and there are even a few tables in the yard, so he was letting a few customers have a crab feast right there.

Call ahead if you questions or requests to save yourself time, the standards will be in stock. The people and the service you get is as good as it gets. If the place is not crazy talk to this great bunch of nice folks who know their stuff. When it gets crazy be patient please because seafood takes time and is hells hard work. Enjoy! No greeting just silence and then got hung up on after a second of them picking up. I called again and they finally young lady decided to answer with a greeting. Upon arriving to grab our LG dozen... we've always been able to stack military discount and the online coupon for $5 off since our last visit. I even confirmed with the cashier during our last visit because I thought that was really nice of them. The young lady cashiering this time around had no remorse or explanation but a "NO" just military or the coupon. If you're okay with this type of customer service and can over look it plus this place being a bit $$$ definitely try their steam crabs and fish they got here. Customer Service definitely needs work. Its very awkward coming inside to an awkward staring contest with everyone behind the fish counter and cashier ( NO GREETING OR HELLO) as if your trespassing into the building or hi how can we help you today? There is a paved parking lot with plenty of parking. We have been going to Gay's for years so it's good to see them expand to a new location. We always get the crabs, with paper and the wooden crackers. The crabs are consistently fresh and delicious and never disappoint! If your planning a trip to the shore stop by and check them out. I ordered the catfish platter with French fries and a side salad, along with a 32 oz Maryland crab soup. Everything was delicious. The catfish was cooked perfectly, the fries were solid, and the crab soup was full of flavor and packed with crab. The service was also really good. The cashier was patient, let me take my time, and even offered helpful suggestions, which made the experience even better. The inside was clean and comfortable, with several bench-style tables and condiments ready to go. Overall, I had a great experience and I'd definitely come back again.

Our host had recommended this spot and it did not disappoint. We got a couple dozen crabs and some shrimp and we were stuffed. The crabs were fresh, as I was literally waiting for them to come in from the fisherman in the morning., and waited outside for them to be cooked. The crabs were sweet and stuffed. We loved them! This is a pick up spot, they do not have dine in. I would call in the order as early as you can when they open. I'm sure they run out at some point.

I've been there several times, and the quality has always been consistent. It's always busy, which tells me people know they're getting fresh seafood. Over the years, I've purchased crabs , oysters , black bass, whiting, trout, spot, crawfish , and shrimp . Every purchase has been fresh and delicious. Their tartar sauce is also worth picking up if you're planning a seafood dinner. Now, I'm not a crab expert, so I can't compare them to every seafood market around. I can only speak from my own experience, and the crabs I've purchased have always been good. If you're going for crabs, get there early. They sell quickly, especially during the summer months.
