I've been there several times, and the quality has always been consistent. It's always busy, which tells me people know they're getting fresh seafood. Even when the parking lot is packed, there's plenty of free parking, so I've never had trouble finding a space. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect from a seafood market. You'll smell fresh fish when you walk in, but it's not an unpleasant odor--it's simply the smell of fresh seafood. One of the things I appreciate most is the staff. They've always been friendly, patient, and helpful whenever I've needed assistance or had questions. Over the years, I've purchased crabs , oysters , black bass, whiting, trout, spot, crawfish , and shrimp . Every purchase has been fresh and delicious. Their tartar sauce is also worth picking up if you're planning a seafood dinner. Now, I'm not a crab expert, so I can't compare them to every seafood market around. I can only speak from my own experience, and the crabs I've purchased have always been good. If you're going for crabs, get there early. They sell quickly, especially during the summer months. Another reason I keep coming back is the daily specials. They often have great seasonal deals, making it a perfect time to stock up on fresh seafood. I was disappointed with my experience today. Before I order at Captain White's Seafood, I always check who is cooking, especially on Fridays through Sundays, because the weekend cook consistently does a great job. Today, I didn't see that cook, so I decided to give someone else a try. Unfortunately, the experience was not the same. The cook didn't seem very welcoming or enthusiastic, and my shrimp and crabs were extremely overcooked. It felt like a waste of good seafood and money. I didn't feel like returning the food because of previous experiences where I felt belittled by management. If the weekend cook has left, I truly hope they're doing well wherever they are. If you're still cooking seafood somewhere else, I'd love to know because your cooking made a difference. I'll check back next weekend and hope for a better experience. read more

We purchase blue crabs from Captain Whites every year for the last three years. Last year and the year before, all crabs are great. We were there this Saturday afternoon for 1 dozen large male. $55 a dozen, good price but bad deal. Half of the crabs were visually smaller and nearly empty. During our previous visits, the staff would pick from one bucket. However, this time, the staff picked crabs from two different buckets, which were abnormal. We trust this vendor before and that was why we purchased from here. However, this time, it is absolutely disappointed. read more

Went there Sunday July 19, 2026 an ordered a half bussel male, it took 2 hours to cook my crabs. The guy steaming the crabs was doing as good as he could but he clearly needs help. Also when I got home I was disappointed because the size was way off. read more

Captain white seafood city- I had not been here previously but off a neighbors recommendation decided to try it , my family and I went to get some steamed crabs,they had alot of them in varying sizes and genders, we settled with large and a few extra large both genders, then we had to go out back to pick up the crabs from the steaming station, while this was going on, I then went to the fish side and helped a relative pick out some shrimp and fish, the cashier grace/gracie was very helpful and let us know about our options and choices and made the experience seamless she told us we can even take the fish fillets to the butcher and they'll debone them and filet them which is a great service to offer especially if you are pressed for time! my only critique was it smelled very fishy in there and not in a fun way , and I've been to other full service seafood and fish markets and there wasn't one but others a good experience and I would go back. read more

I follow their social media accounts and saw they had a sale for Large male crabs for $35 per dozen before 11am on Sunday. I went at 8:30am. It was my first time ever going there. There were no lines when I arrived. The process was smooth and the customer service was great. I ordered the crabs inside. Then waited 35 mins for the crabs to be cooked and picked up at the white tent on the side of the building. The crabs were well seasoned and meaty. Most definitely worth the pricing. Next time I'll grab the XL male crabs. read more

Never really been a fan of this establishment but my friends wanted crabs. So I was near by and said why not. Man take your business elsewhere. This is the crooketest crab spot in the area. I called and asked for 1/2 bushel of large males because on FB it said $125. When I got here i was told they were not selling crabs that way because of the speical of buy a doz and get 1/2 doz free. Then I seen them take 8 crabs out the 3 dozen I had order. Then I look at the so called large males and they are small to mediums. Man go to Ernies or Edwards Seafood where they do you right with the right size of actual Large crabs and not passing them off as small or mediums and they dont start unloading crabs from your order.look at the size of these crabs. I don't know of a better spot to buy fresh seafood in the DMV than Captain White's! I've been a customer since they were located at the wharf, and while the new location isn't as convenient for me, I'm happy to drive out there to get fresh crabs, shrimp, and more! This past Sunday, we took advantage of the buy one dozen get one dozen free deal and bought two dozen extra large mail crabs for $99! They were absolutely fat, sweet, and delicious! We also bought 2 pounds of North Carolina wild caught shrimp and they were fantastic! Thank you Hank, you've got a great business going and I'll be sure to send all my friends your way! I was told my crabs would take 45 minutes to an hour to be steamed and seasoned. I returned after waiting an hour, only to be told it would be another hour. Had I been given an accurate estimate from the beginning, I could have planned accordingly. When I asked the owner what could be done about the situation, I was simply told I had two options: wait or get a refund. I felt the response was dismissive and lacked any effort to make things right. Delays can happen, but honest communication and good customer service go a long way. Unfortunately, this experience left me disappointed. I hope they'll work on providing more accurate wait times and better customer service in the future. read more

I finally came to the new location as I live closer to it now. I've only been once but will definitely come back in a weekday because the weekend and the parking can be a little tricky. Ok...not going to lie a lot tricky because the parking lot is not big and many people park on the side street or even across the street and walk over. I really enjoy the seafood atmosphere and the people who help you and cooks it for you. This time around I got some X-Large, jumbo shrimp, and 5lbs of crawfish. You get your number then have to go outside under a tent and wait until your number is called if you want it steamed. It didn't take long. As the line was really long but they got the light everyone rather quickly. Can't wait to go back and get more crawfish and some clams this time around! read more

Although they don't have the nostalgic feel and vibe that was at the original location, the new location is really nice and a step up on their game! Located at a busy cross-section in the Oxon Hill 'HOOD..lol.... You will find their new location, hustling and bustling with crowds of seafood, lovers and patrons. The location is open, airy and loaded with great seafood finds and choices. From fresh fish, shrimp, scallops, oysters, clams, and many other seafood delicacies..... You will find them all here. And of course, the star of them all is the Maryland Blue Crabs. People normally travel miles for it and Captain White seafood delivers. The crab are always fresh, live and kicking, and their prices are competitive. My only gripe with this location is the wait time for having them cooked on site. Although the lines are long, they move fast, but if you're looking to get your seafood cooked on site, the wait can be long and in-upwards of a hour long wait or more! This is my only issue coming here. You can waste a lot of time waiting for crabs or seafood to be cooked and talk about waiting in the summer heat....who has time for that!? The only other option is to buy the pre-cooked crabs that are available or..... cook them at home. This is my only issue and what downgrades this place from getting 5 stars in my book! I actually ordered, as a test today, a dozen of the pre-cooked crabs because I did not want to wait that long. Surprisingly, they were actually really good and hefty-meaty. Other than the issue of long waits for having your food cooked on site, the seafood is fresh and the customer service is great. If you crave fresh fish go to Capt White's Seafood City. Times have changed! It's been a while since we drove out to this location. WELL, upgrades galore! Phone in orders are well organized. I called at 8:15 and asked for a pickup of 9;00am. Arrived at 9:15am,to find a special pickup window that handles just call in orders The guy was so nice and explained the whole process to phone in and pay and pickup! I didn't even have to go through the indoor line. Now if I did want to just walk through, they have a nice indoor space where friendly staff are waiting to take orders. The CRABS! Yes, those bad boys were large! I got a bushel of exlarge males. They weee steamed with the correct amount of spice. They were fresh and meaty.
