We definitely had a great time & felt like big kids! I highly recommend people of all ages going to Cox Farms during their annual Fall Festival. Great family-friendly harvest festival, perfect for kids - you can easily spend 3+ hours. There's so much to do! There's lots of thrilling-seeking fast slides, a galore of free apple cider, a fun forest walk, an interactive hay ride, and you get to pick out a free pumpkin at the end. Our toddler loved it! Opening weekend was surprisingly not crowded and not Peak prices. Weekends in October especially in the afternoons are mayhem with long lines (20 min+ per slide/hayride) while morning weekdays are packed as well with school field trips. I've had to wait in long lines both during the weekends/weekdays in Oct. Mornings in Sept is the way to go! There are about a dozen slides near the front with a few large slides in the back - Castle, Dino, and Treetop. Adults can go down most of the slides, there's a mix of open slides and enclosed, tunnel slides. There's no height, age, or parental restriction. There was a blue dino wavy slide that looked scary, but my fearless toddler conquered it! The new green Safari slide at the front is the tallest slide and very fast! The slides are pretty safe and there are staff members helping kids getting on all of the slides. T The hayride was hands-down my favorite part! The ride was over 20 min with new attractions and stations this year. It's impressively interactive with cowboys on friendly horses, aliens, superwoman, trolls, and cool sculptures. We went through water multiple times! Not a dull moment. Can't imagine how much the haunted hay ride would be at night - next time! Don't miss out on the forest walk - there are lots of cool sculptures and little rooms to explore. It takes about 20 min to walk through and the last entry is 1/2 hour before closing. There were barrels of complementary apple cider and bushels of apples. If you go earlier in the season in Sept, you'll be able to safely avoid the bees and drink cider to your heart's content. The farm provides free little cups and shuns bottles or containers. If you wait until Oct, bees swarm around the barrels and just couldn't get past them! The cider ran out early around 3:30pm. The warm fluffy cider donuts were divine! So good that one wasn't satisfying enough and went back for another one! In addition to the slides, there are other smaller attractions like pirate ships, hay tunnels, bubble machine (my daughter loved it!), wooden pictures frames where you stick your face in the hole, and petting zoo (big mama pig and cute little piglets). The petting zoo isn't a particular section and the fenced animals are scattered throughout the farm (chickens, cows, goats, sheep, and pigs). My daughter and son had a blast playing in the wooden train. Lots of great photo ops! As you exit, you get to pick a free pumpkin to take home (1 pumpkin/ticket) from a galore of different colors and sizes (except for the super big ones!). I was quite satisfied with my cut little pumpkin. On your way out, there's a small market. The local cider is delicious and bought a 1/2 gallon of cider (only $6.50), which pairs well with Bourbon! You can get pies, honey, different types of butter spreads. We usually spend 2-3 hours and are able to make it through most of the slides, hay ride, and attractions. While we could easily spend another hour thoroughly covering the rest of the park, the rosy cheeks on my kids face show utter exhaustion. Our family of 4 had a blast - $100 well spent on tickets. Got a chance to take my granddaughter before the end of the fall festival. We were lucky enough to have excellent weather which made the experience more enjoyable. Although there were lots of people because the farm is quite large, it didn't feel crowded. The staff that we encountered were extremely friendly and knowledgeable. My granddaughter enjoyed the kiddie play area and the goats. Not quite sure how they do it but the area where the goats were kept was unbelievably clean. I kept expecting to step in something, but that didn't happen. I enjoyed the free fresh apple cider and apples. They also had warm tasty apple cider donuts for purchase among other things. I visited Cox farms this past weekend and I found it massively overpriced (almost double the price for entry at $30/person and food is like 50% more) for the experience compared to competitor farms (Great Country Farms, Butler Orchards). The organization was confusing and the activities are comparable to the other farms. I liked the free apple cider, free apples, and free pumpkin per person upon exiting, but I felt like other farms had better playspaces and animal feeding/encounters for a much cheaper price. Apple cider donuts were great but $9.50 here compared to about $6.50 at other farms. Staff was friendly and the tractor ride was pretty fun. The fall festival seems to be what they are most known for but the holiday market during the winter is also fun to visit. Parking is free and overall it wasn't as busy or overwhelming crowd wise as the fall festival. We didn't get a Christmas tree this year but we saw how there was an organized process for them to help tie trees to the tops of cars if you select one. Some of the employees were nice enough to offer to take pictures of our family. There were an abundance of fun photo opportunities with a quirky sense of humor in some instances. My friend and I were hoping to go to a cider mill/apple orchard/fall-themed farm while she was in town this past weekend. Being from the midwest, this was a yearly tradition we went to in college. If you are looking to stop by to grab some fall based foods and pastries and/or enjoy a cup of hot cider, then Cox Farms is a good spot to go and probably the easiest to get to if you're in Nova. Note, this review has nothing to do with activities or attractions. We just walked around the store part to see what kind of goods we can buy. We ended up buying a small loaf of apple nut bread and pumpkin bread (8.99 each), some apple butter, and a couple half-dozen containers of cider donuts. The apple nut bread was so good and moist, definitely the "apple" version of banana nut bread that would be the perfect alternative if you don't like bananas. It's also not too sweet. I found the pumpkin bread to be a bit dry, dense and too sweet. Overall, expensive for how much we got, but worth it for the fall festivities. The cider donuts (9.50 for 6) were sugary, cake donuts that went perfectly with a cup of coffee in the morning. These were a hit when we brought them to group gatherings. We also stopped by the cafe area to get a cup of hot spiced cider. It was perfectly hot (not to the point where your tongue will burn) and smooth, perfect for the slightly breezy fall weather. We sat on the benches sipping the cider while chatting. We also took some pictures by the pumpkin section. Overall, a great time. We got the types of pastries and drinks we wanted and checked off the essential, annual midwest fall activity for 2023. read more

I absolutely loved this farm! It is the biggest one I've been to and had lots of activities for the kids. I believe it's definitely geared towards families. They have many slides, photo ops, a very good hay ride, a corn maze, animals, and more! It's huge so the only regret I have is that I only spent a few hours there (went around the toddler's nap time). If I could, I would have spent the whole day there since there seems to be so much to do. The prices for food are a bit steep ($11 for kettle corn). The admission we paid was $25 during a peak day, but it was nice that all rides/attractions were included in the fee, so it wasn't too bad. After visiting many of the D.C. area fall festivals, I can confidently say Cox Farms is the best! Here's why: 1) Price: At first glance, it feels pricey. It's $20 per person, but the ticket does get you a lot. Unlike other fall festivals where the fun wears off after 1-2 hours, you can easily stay the entire day at Cox Farms, getting the most of your money. Also, the $20 includes an interactive hayride, a free pumpkin on your way out and all the rides and activities (except for the gem mining). 2) Space: It's pretty big so pay attention to the maps placed throughout the farm. It's also in Centreville, Virginia about a 45-minute drive from D.C., adding to the appeal. You're definitely on a working family-owned farm. Although a big space, you don't feel exhausted walking from activity to activity. 3) Slides: They have six themed-slides from the "Castle Slide" to the "Dino Slide." The tallest slide is the Dino Slide and the line moves fast since there are six chutes. The widest slide is the Barn Slide. One slide to avoid is the Volcano Slide. It's a single chute, making the line (in direct sun) very long. In the end, it's the slowest slide and not worth the wait. Skip it. 4) Amenities: Besides the slides, there's a foam replica of Stonehenge, a corn maze with fun surprises (definitely worth visiting!), an interactive corn maze, play areas for little kids, a forest rail, farm animals (goats, pigs, cows, bunnies, etc.), a music stage, rope swings, a giant yellow chair, tunnels, etc. There's enough to stay engaged all day! 5) Food: It's what you'd expect at a place like this, but the prices were cheaper than I thought. For $8, you can buy chicken nuggets and waffle fries. The portions are large enough to feed two little kids. They also sell hot dogs, BBQ, kettle corn, apple cider doughnuts, cookies and milk and more. The stands are spread throughout the farm. 6) Water: They have free water stations throughout so bring a water bottle! They also have misting stations on hot days and a barn of free apple cider. (Keep in mind that bees love cider so be gentle when getting the cider. If you need it, there are bee sting kits nearby.) 7) Thoughtfulness: The staff are friendly, masked during the pandemic and really try to make it the best experience. For example, they have bee sting kits by the apple cider. Each staff member also has their pronouns on their name tags. 8) Tables: There are plenty of areas with tables and chairs and a good amount of them are in the shade. 9) Market: They have a market full of fall goodies, produce and farm fresh jams! Expect to buy some treats for the road. A few things to note: 1) To avoid crowds during the pandemic, go on a Monday or Friday. If you must go on a weekend, get there right when they open and head directly to the back attractions. You'll have a good 30 minutes with little lines. 2) Pack hand sanitizer. They have stations by the farm animal pens, but you'd expect more given the pandemic. 3) They just have outhouses, but they are plentiful. October 2021 - COVID Review: I'd say that Cox Farms is definitely worth the visit at least once if you're from the area. My husband and I don't have kids yet but we still enjoyed our visit here. You can really make it a whole day trip! The hayride was fun and so were the different trails and attractions throughout the farm. I enjoyed seeing the different farm animals and all the fun facts posted! It was nice to get to bring home a pumpkin on your way out too! And you get to try some free apple cider (be careful of the bees!). There's several slides of varying heights, a huge corn maze, a hayride that takes about 15-20 minutes, farm-related activities, so many farm animals, and other fun stuff. They've got standard amusement park food - chicken tenders/nuggets, burgers, fries, pizza. But they also have freshly baked chocolate chip cookies, apple cider donuts (which are DELICIOUS), kettle corn (also delicious) and cold apple cider. There's a sluice where you can buy a bag of crystals and silt, and then sift through it using a flume and sifting pan. You actually get a decent amount of crystals for the money. Overall this place really delivers, year after year. Highly recommended if you have school aged kids. It's worth the price!! read more
