Been here quite a bit. The margaritas are where it's at. Consistently good, strong & great lime flavor. The food & service are hit or miss. Really good when you find a dish that's done well, but there are so many flops on the menu I wish they would change some of their core items. If you like cornbread, try it here. Was so disappointed tonight! Ordered the lobster quesadillas which was 31.98 ad there was so little lobster I it I sent it back! Ordered the broccoli chicken flatbread! Walked in and were greeted and seated promptly by a nice gentleman. That's where the friendly service ended. Summer was our server. She came by for our drink order without any pleasantries. No "thank you, I'll be right back with that". Literally just walked away after we told her our drink order. Food came out in a decent amount of time, but it was all bland. The homemade salsa needed salt and was too chunky. The chips likewise needed salt. We had salt shaker in hand the whole meal. After she dropped our meals off, Summer was completely checked out on our table. We were impossible to miss, so she worked hard avoiding our empty drink glasses and my partner's empty plate sitting on the edge of our table for 15 minutes. Service was excellent! I made the mistake of ordering an Oktoberfest special. My fault, I should have stayed with the regular menu. The quality of the Sauerbraten was not that great. After countless drive-bys, we finally gave Coyote Blue a try this weekend. From the outside, the place doesn't exactly pull you in--it looks like another unremarkable roadside bar, tucked behind a cramped parking area with a somewhat divey facade. But walking through the door, my expectations quickly flipped. Inside, Coyote Blue reveals a completely different story. The space is larger than expected and surprisingly inviting, with a warm, clean, and welcoming atmosphere. We were greeted promptly and led to a cozy booth with Mexican-tiled tabletops and intimate lighting that gave the space a comfortable charm. The restaurant clearly takes pride in its house-made margaritas, served in large jar glasses--but I opted for a cold beer on tap. The drink menu was solid, and the service was quick and attentive throughout our visit. The food menu is extensive, featuring both traditional favorites and a selection of weekly specials. I went with the Tres Amigos Burrito, which came stuffed with chicken, beef, and pork pastor, along with onions, and then topped with melted cheese. It was served with rice, beans, guacamole, and sour cream. The burrito itself was well-executed and flavorful. The rice was boldly seasoned--perhaps a touch too salty for my preference, but still enjoyable--and the beans were nicely done. I'd definitely order the dish again. My girlfriend tried a cheese-filled enchilada(as a vegetarian option) with the roasted tomatillo sauce, which was more of a mixed bag. While the broiled cheese topping was beautifully melted, the cheese inside hadn't melted, which left the texture a bit off. The sauce was sparse, and fairly flavorless. That said, her dish was still ok, and the sides--again, the rice and beans--held up well. The service deserves a shout-out: our server was polite, friendly, and genuinely welcoming. Food and drinks came out at a good pace, and we never felt rushed or forgotten. In the end, Coyote Blue surprised me in the best way. It's a good reminder that first impressions based on curb appeal don't always tell the full story. Behind its humble exterior is a solid local spot that's worth checking out. So the decor is awesome, cute little place, but that's where the fun stops!! The salsa is made from canned stewed tomatoes, the pork enchiladas, the pork alone tastes like it was just boiled in water with no seasoning... everything including the rice tastes like it's straight from a can with minimal to no seasoning!! It certainly should not be called Mexican food or Tex mex!!! And the prices were ridiculous for the quality!! We got the flight of margarita and 2 of the margs tasted like straight chemicals, so that tells me it's a mix and nothing fresh, one of the 3 margs were delicious, I can't quite remember but I think it was pear... the service was great, oh the tacos are huge and tasted like a taco bell taco, no joke, which is decent taste if you're getting it at Taco Bell for a fraction of the price!! read more

I love this local Mexican place. the food is relatively authentic. the inside décor is very cultural, and it feels like you are in a little bodega. this place tends to get super busy on a Friday or Saturday night. I also love that there is now a little outside patio area. I have tried various things on the menu. the chips and salsa are great. Incredible spot!! I've driven past this restaurant many times but never stopped in until recently. Really kicking myself for not making the time to try it sooner. Went to this place for the first time this past weekend. Very nice authentic Mexican vibe and the waitress was amazing. This place was packed with people so I assumed it was going to all be amazing food. I ordered a Mexican stir fry, great selection of veggies but very bland and the chicken had a odd taste. The "authentic rice" tastes like quick Mexican rice(pasta sides) with tomato paste added to appear authentic. I'm a foodie an cook myself so I was hoping I wasn't just being a food snob, however the rest of my party did not enjoy their food either. Very disappointed! We live in Westbrook & my brother in law lives in Bristol and a good halfway point is here. The last couple of times the food hadn't been as good but decided to give it another chance. This time the food was great and so were the margaritas. There were 6 of us and we were laughing and reminiscing when the owner came to our table and told us to quiet down. We did and were stunned because everyone around us was just as loud! We weren't drunk or obnoxious in any way. Upon leaving after paying our bill and leaving a nice tip, (our waitress was good) I stopped and asked the owner why he singled us out and he said if I got you to quiet down everyone else would follow... Went here for Thursday dinner and I was surprised at how many people there were, the place was packed!! We started off with chips and salsa and I was obsessed with the salsa, it was so interesting they added carrots & corn and a lot of cumin spice. I figured it was homemade, and got confirmation from the waitress. We got a beer and a seltzer because we didn't notice the margaritas menu tucked away on the table. They were fine. But once we found the margaritas menu, game over. My husband got a mango Margarita and I got a strawberry Margarita. They were SO STRONG. There's a disclaimer on the menu that if you're driving they suggest a "half-marg". We ended up ordering shrimp quesadilla and steak fajitas. The shrimp were huge and juicy. They also brought out a second order of chips and salsa for us, we couldn't get enough of the salsa. The fajitas were okay, the meat was an interesting texture, and the Tex Mex spices were different from what I'm used to with authentic Mexican, but not bad just different style of cuisine! I keep giving this place a chance because my bf lives up the road, and they keep missing the mark every time. Drinks are slapped together, and they definitely don't know what Mexican food is. Tonight I asked for veggie tacos on corn tortillas with a side of black beans.. a very simple order for a "Tex Mex" restaurant. Corn tortillas were raw (not warmed) so they had that crumble quality. The veggies in the taco consisted of carrots, green beans, broccoli, cucumbers, iceberg and tomato's. All cold. WHAT. Lol, they also didn't have black beans. I've gotten food here several times, waiting to be pleasantly surprised.. but no, they are consistently bad. Drive for five more minutes into Middletown for some authentic food. read more

This place is gross I've never had anything good from here. First time I tried the food I ordered a basic standard beef taco. It tasted like dog food and went straight into the trash. Another time I can recall was in the midst of Covid when my fiancé, best friend and I ordered margaritas to go. I definitely see myself visiting many times in the future. I ordered the shrimp fajitas. The shrimp were huge, the rice and beans had tons of flavor, and I was only able to make it through two of the four tortillas before throwing in the towel. My husband enjoyed his vegetable fajitas ($15) and said the vegetables seemed fresh, though I found them to be somewhat bland. We stopped into Coyote Blue Tex-Mex Cafe on a Friday night for a late dinner. I was shocked when I pulled into the lot and there wasn't any parking. It was BUSY! I finally got a spot a minute or two later when someone left. It looked like a small place from the photos I've seen, which it is, but I wasn't expecting it to be that packed! The was one table left smack in the middle of the restaurant where the kitchen doors open and close. We decided to take it instead of waiting 20-30 minutes because the food was hitting our nostrils and we were suddenly STARVING! My dining partner ordered the Cattleman's Steak and I ordered the Chicken Sedona with a side of avocado. We were given large portions and everything was delicious! This was one of those meals where you're full, but you don't want to stop eating because the food is so good. The next time I'm having a craving for Tex-Mex, I know where I'm going! This is my new go to restaurant for Mexican food!! No more tasteless franchise restaurant. A little gem hiding away. It was packed for a Sunday night, we went there with two young kids so I was worried about the wait time but we were seated right away and by the time we looked up, we already had our chips and salsa. The strong margaritas will help you not notice that the food is mediocre. I've been coming here on and off since 1993 and honestly, the food is nothing to write home about. I don't think the menu has changed in that time. When I started going there I regularly ordered the Gulf Shrimp Quesadilla.... which is still on the menu. I can't figure out how they keep packing them in. They open the bar at 5:00 but won't seat anyone until 5:30... which makes no sense. People are just jammed in, looking at an empty dining room. Why not just seat everyone and get going? That part is just beyond ridiculous. read more
