I recently purchased 2 dozen of crabs from this establishment. After eating 2 Crabs I notice something very disturbing on the shell of the next crab I attempted to eat. After doing a google research , I learned that the crabs I purchased had barnacles attached to their shell. I called the next day and someone explained that it's not harmful , however for a visual person like myself , this is very traumatizing. I've been purchasing crabs for over 20 years and this is the first time I've experienced this . After doing more research , most reputable business avoid selling crabs With barnacles. I'm not trying to bash this business , I just want to help another visual person like myself . read more

To be honest my wife and I stopped there because we really had to find a bathroom. They had one for customers, so we thought "well, we'll buy something." Wow, did we luck out. I was going to get a hot dog and a soda then my wife saw the crabcakes. They were HUGE. We got a couple to go and they were great. LOTS of big pieces of crab. Nice, big, fresh buns. A+ for the crab cakes. To be honest, we didn't like the cole slaw, but it was fresh and worth trying. Definitely worth going to Essex for the crab cakes though!!! We recently tried Crabland after a Facebook deal where you got a dozen crabs, pound of shrimp, drinks, and soup for $29. It sounded too good to be true and was. The shrimp tasted great and were large, but the crabs tasted off. My husband and I fell violently ill in the middle of the night and it had to be from this meal. We only ate half and threw the rest away. Lesson learned? Never buy a seafood deal! read more

I'm late posting this review, so I apologize for that. We recently moved to this area and close to Crabland. We decided to give them a try and ordered 3 dozen large males. We had to wait in line for close to 30 minutes to get the crabs (an odd concept, I'm not aware of any other Baltimore crab place that runs this way). Get home and quickly realize these are extra small at best. We could not believe they were selling such small crabs as larges! These crabs were so small I'm certain they were illegal to catch. They were barely the size of my palm. It was so unbelievable I had to package them and go back up there, to show him what he is selling! Also, we wanted to let other patrons know what they are buying isn't even smalls. The owner got very angry and defensive toward us bringing the crabs up and wanted to argue with me saying I didn't get them from Crabland. It was truly unbelievable and I will never return. It's one thing to give a bad service but to act so rude as an owner is just not acceptable. read more

This place had some of the best crabs I've ever eaten in my life. Lived in me for 36 years so I know me some good crabs when I have them :) the crab spice was they used was a perfect blend awesomeness. You could tell lots of thoughts when into this rub. Crab land is right next to Fruit land ( they sell live crabs) I believe they are owned by the same people. I've only been there about 10 times and each time I've been treated with respect and given a fair price. They have good crab and plenty of other items on the menu. They aren't over seasoned. They use a house blend and although I prefer Old Bay the blend they use is just fine. I've never sat down to eat there but there is a small dining area. When ever I'm there they are always busy but never too busy to stop and help. I've always been greeted with a friendly hello. They also often have $1 Crabs. read more

Guaranteed? I showed up at 7:10 to pick up a dozen hot Steamed large/exlarge that were to be ready at 7:15. I was surprised that the door was locked and the store was closing. I got my crabs and they were cold and empty. I truly don't know what happened. I called at 5:30 and was told they closed at 8:00 so I placed my order to be picked up at 7:15. If these are "the best crabs of the year, Guaranteed", I would hate to see the crabs last month. Very disappointing. There was no way these were fresh steamed to order. read more

As an executive I highly recommend Crabland for fresh hot delicious crabs my condo is in Essex and the crabs have been good every time I had them ....every time they are very hospitable and the food is delicious Tony is awesome and the specials are great the only bad thing is that they are closed on tuesdays that's when I tried Shultz crab house which is closer the crabs tasted like ammonia and al's crab shack the crabs were flavorless and taste like Ammonia if you want crabs and are in Baltimore Crabland is your place. read more

I would normally give Crabland a very good rating. However this year we paid for 1/2 bushel of mixed, $115. Guess what, no males only females and they were very small. We were very specific and got there very early in the morning. The guy had not even started the pots so we had to come back in an hour to pick up our order. Secondly, I asked to taste the coleslaw and it was fresh and I was told it is made everyday. So I ordered 2 containers. I got 1 container of fresh coleslaw, however the other container was clearly and older batch, it was darker in color. I feel they were deceptive and I may go back however I will be checking everything before I leave. read more

We've gotten crabs from here so many times that I've lost count and they've always been full and seasoned perfectly but this past weekend we made 2 separate trips for their "Old Tavern Style" burgers. They cook your burgers to order and take me right back to the good old days when my dad and I would buy a bag of burgers to take home to surprise my mom, the only thing lacking is that they don't always have pickles (which sadly is an important component for me). I also have to give props to their delicious Cream of Crab soup which was not only delicious and seasoned just right but they pile crabmeat on top and sprinkle with Old Bay. Both my husband and I had to double check to see if we had ordered crab dip, it was that thick and filled with sweet crabmeat in every spoon or cracker full. Lots of parking and make sure you sign up for their Crab Land Crab club because for every $10 you spend you get back a $1 Crab cash you can use on future orders. read more

Some of the best steamed crabs I have had! Wonderful seasoning and the customer service is superb! I have never had an issue with any of their crabs and they have even stayed a little late to accommodate my crazy work schedule (I sell cars for Enterprise). I visited family in September and as always, I am looking to get steamed crabs during my visit. I grew up in Baltimore and left at 18 but always get crabs when I return. This trip was no exception. We were going to entertain about 10-15 people so I explored the idea to steam my own, as this would normally be the least expensive route to take. However, once I did some shopping around, I quickly discovered, this was not the case. I was told by several that a bushel of live would cost around $140-160 a bushel for medium males. I also asked a few places for steamed and they were $225 or more for a steamed bushel. I figured I would just stop into Crabland and see what they had to offer in the way of steamed crabs. To my surprise and I made them clarify a couple of times prior to me purchasing, they were the same price for a bushel of steamed, medium males. They went as far as to show me what I was getting, they also said that the large crabs were running light and that I would be better off getting the mediums instead. Contradicting or learning a lesson from the previous post...whatever, it worked to my favor. I picked up the crabs, along with 18 ears of corn, which was not Iowa sweet corn, but good nonetheless at the time specified with no waiting. They were bagging them as I walked in the door, fresh from the steamer. I got them home and we began to dig in. Our guests were very surprised and complimentary as if I had actually done a great job picking them out. When I told them where I got them from, they said, wow, I will go there from now on. Come to find out, my niece goes there quite often and has been satisfied each and every time. The staff were very friendly and greeted me with a smile, from the moment I first walked in to the time I left with my purchase. Thank you Crabland, I will not look anywhere else when I return. We tried Crabland last year for the first time. To date we have not been disappointed. We have uses them for carry out seafood. The crab cakes have been great. Very little filler. Fish sandwiches have been very good as well. We tried them for carry out steamed crabs last evening and we're delighted. Seasoned perfectly! The crabs were very reasonable in price for March. These were from North Carolina but tasted as great as Maryland crabs. read more

I purchased some live crabs from Fruit Land which is directly across from Crabland last year; cooked and seasoned them myself and was satisfied. Not sure if they cooked crabs; called recently and they recommended Crabland. I called ahead to ensure Crabland had large males and they said they did. My wife and I made the 45 minute trip to Essex Maryland to purchase two dozen of large males. It was the day before July 4th and traffic on 95 and 895 was in gridlock, but we had a taste for crabs and took the trip. We arrived, placed the order; waited 15-20 for them to be cooked. Everyone was pleasant as we received our crabs and left. The crabs were heavily seasoned which made the crabs seem heavy with meat. As we selected the crabs for eating, we noticed that the majority of them were nearly empty of meat. When the crabs were finished, we estimated over 85% of the crabs from Crabland were extremely light with no meat. We believe Crabland knew that the crabs we purchased were light and should have advised us before we paid or gave us crabs with meat to ensure that we were return customers. If their intent was to drive us away; it worked. We will not purchase any seafood or any other items from Crabland again. read more
