I order a bushel in a half of what was supposed to be large females for Mother's Day we eat a bushel almost and when we got good into the second box the crab were mushy so I called to notify the establishment about my issue it seemed to be a problem. I paid almost 400 dollars for this experience and I was very disappointed. fast forward to today i received a credit for what I thought was going to be large or medium crabs only to be giving smalls they will not get anymore over my busines. cause this is very disappointing read more

We called the day before and ordered XLs, which was all they had available. Upon pickup, we learned that they subbed in a few jumbos since they had some around, at no extra charge. They were the best crabs we've had all season-- good size, heavy, seasoned and prepared well-- even better than a feast at Quarterdeck in Arlington from earlier in the summer. I've never tried Gaffney's Back Fin, nor have I heard of them but thank you Yelp - yet again! I stopped in on a Thursday evening around 7:50. They were running a special $30 for a dozen of medium male crabs. That's perfect because that's exactly what I came to get. As others have mentioned I would recommend calling ahead because the crabs are steamed to order. When I got there around 7:50 the really nice lady behind the counter told me they were getting ready to shut down a little earlier because business was slow that day. She told me it'll take about 15-20 minutes for my crabs and was kind enough to throw a few extra in for the wait. I didn't mind the wait at all anyway. While waiting I walked across the street to grab some Peruvian style chicken. The minute I picked up my crabs I noticed how heavy the bag was. Score! I couldn't wait to get home. Pulling them out the bag I noticed they didn't look at big as I imagined from the weight of the bag BUT once I pulled one leg off and got a load of a chunk of meat I was in HEAVEN! They were some of the meatiest, juiciest and tastiest crabs I've had God knows how long. My mom agreed. Graffney's Back Fin has 2 new loyal fans for life. read more

As a faithful customer, today's customer service was very unprofessional. The cashiers (children) were very rude. I've never experienced the disorganization that took place today. Called my order in, for a 5:15pm pick up, arrived and because the wait was unreal, I cancelled my order at 5:50pm. There was a lack of communication between staff and the many customers waiting in the lobby for their order. The owners should consider employees who can better handle the front line of their business which is greeting customers, being professional and always remembering the customers is always right; even when they are wrong. Finally decided to give Gaffney's a try the other day after only hearing great things. Half a bushel of male crabs were steamed and ready about 45 mins after ordering, and the price was very fair. Staff members were courteous, professional and friendly. They provided paper free of charge, so need to worry about getting newspapers! The crabs -- absolutely the best I have had in years. Though they were an order of smalls, they were heavy and filled with meat. Texture of the meat was perfect and bursting with flavor. I highly recommend Gaffney's. 5 stars, all around! read more

This was the first time I have ordered steamed crabs. We got a bushel ($200) for a party of approximately 20 people, and ate them on my rooftop deck. I called the order in the day before and they noted the pick-up time. Customer service was excellent, and they mentioned several deals that were going on. The order was on-time and ready when we arrived, packed in a water-resistant box, steaming hot. They provided a few mallets for us when we asked. The crabs were exceptional--large males, meaty, expertly spiced. I had feedback from the guests of the party about the crabs, and it was universally positive. Praise came from life-long Maryland folks well-versed in crabs, as well as from people who were trying them for the first time. Like some of the other reviews have said. These were top notch crabs, I don't think I've had crabs with white meat whiter or better yellow tomalley in years. Personally though, I found the seasoning too spicy and salty (born and raised baltimore). And I'm someone that puts spice on everything. So did my family. Now this is a totally subjective thing. Me and the wife came down from Philly to satisfy a craving from some crabs. We booked a room at the Best Western Plus in downtown and Yelp guided me to this place. I had called a few days ahead to reserve a dozen females (we Asians love the roe!). The very helpful lady took my order and gave me a pickup time. Unfortunately before the agreed time came I got a call telling me my order was going to be late. Something about their shipment being delayed in traffic. After about a two hour wait we finally could pick up our order. They were nice enough to throw in a couple of big males to make up for the delay. Got some corn on the cob and some free butcher paper and headed back to the hotel room for a much anticipated feast. We were not disappointed. They were the sweetest meatiest crabs I ever ate. A great place for take-out/carry out crabs. Please note that there is no seating/eating area in the establishment -- good excuse for finding somewhere nice by the water to eat your crabs, preferably with some local beers :) Really great crabs, and you get a free mallet if you check in on Yelp. I love that they have crabs of many sizes, and have the option of female crabs too. I called about a week in advance to reserve a dozen jumbo crabs. It turns out they only had larges left, but I found they'd thrown in 3 extras. :) The crabs were fat and full of meat. For people who love crab roe, they also have female crabs available! I'd definitely order from them again. My only complaint is that the crabs were a little overcooked -- there was no juice left in the shells, and the meat wasn't as tender as I like. Back in Oregon we'd steam a whole Dungeness crab the size of a chicken for around 10-15 minutes TOPS, whereas I see you guys out here steaming these tiny little crabs for a shocking 20 minutes. Definitely recommended to tourists and locals alike. This is a very real Baltimore experience, is cheaper than going to a restaurant, and the staff is really nice and willing to explain everything to you. You can even check in on Facebook and get a free mallet or paper to eat on. The seasoning was strong, my friend. And my body was fatigued by the end. Will I have crabs again in this fashion within the foreseeable future? Haha probably not. Two of us split a dozen smalls. It was fun and a lot of work, quite an experience overall. An epic experience. We took it to the Canton Waterfront Park and ate on the dock, that worked out really well. Eating in the park, by the water was much better than stinking up your abode, and you can toss your shells into the water and I am under the impression that this actually helps the environment. The only thing though is that you need to take a shower after eating all those crabs. So, anyways, I would say a dozen feeds 2 or 3 people more than enough. I also got the shrimp because... why not? It was fine, a good enough side dish to keep it interesting. I got corn and garlic butter too. The corn is a great side and I actually wish I had allotted 2 for myself. The garlic butter was really tasty but a little overkill on flavor for the crabs. I dipped my corn in it and was happy. I guess I'd just get regular butter next time. Also, the males are quite a bit larger. I liked the tomaley of the crabs, but I didn't quite Get the orange roe in the females, it was just too hard a substance to eat. I am sure there is another use for this in another dish but in this manner, it goes to waste. Oh well. Last time in Baltimore, I went to PJ Steamers and it was a little more expensive than I'd like. This was the same basic experience and cheaper, I would definitely prefer going here and taking it somewhere. read more

Not too spicy, and a good amount. They were also hot and delicious. I usually order from Conrad's up in Towson, but now that I know this place was just as good and within walking distance from my house I'm sold. Tip: paper is free! Tip: this place is TOGO only.
