He stated what we were saying was not possible. We told him that they didn't taste like Maryland crabs He then stated that the crabs were from Virginia and also stated that there was a no refund policy. First time ordering from Pete's, we ordered 2 1/2 dozen LARGE females for $75. What we got was TOTALLY different! Upon picking them up we inspected them, as usual, before leaving and asked if they were actually LARGES. "6 inches" he said. Not sure how he said that with a straight face. Context: If these little ones were sold as small or even mediums I would find no fault. However, if you charge me for something that you didn't deliver, as a proud, cradle Marylander, I take issue. Some of these babies should have been thrown back! Don't rob me! As children growing up in Maryland we are taught the following: Large - Hard crab measures 5 1/2 to 6 inches in size. Medium - Hard crab measures 5 to 5 1/2 inches in size. Small - Hard crab measures 4 1/2 to 5 inches in size, usually females. We know our crabs, we are connoisseurs . We are taught that the Females, #3, also known as "Sook" can range up to 6 inches. They are typically sweet and usually have egg roe inside the crab. Sooks usually have denser meat. Were they dense? 3 dozen small female crabs for $45 bucks was one of the specials for the evening so we went with that. Unmmmm, I'll say small was small .... for real. Tasty ... but really small. I originally placed an order for large females I got a call that they over steamed that order so he had to change my order to medium females. That was fine I picked up the order they were the smallest cramps I've ever seen I said that to the gentleman and he told me that they measure from point to point which is 5 inches so that's considered medium but they are very meaty so I went with that I went home and open the crabs and again they were very small! I've been getting crabs from Pete's a couple times each summer for about 10 years and have never been disappointed. Their prices and selection are always good. They have great specials and the crabs are ABSOLUTELY FULL AND DELICIOUS. I have to wonder if Gabrielle didn't close her bag resulting in the mushy crabs she got. I ordered two dozen crabs from Pete's Crabs and they were so dry that a couple of them I could even remove the top shell. The mustard was so dry that even with a knife I couldn't remove it. I spent $ 50 to treat myself and my daughter for my birthday. I was disgusted and I felt like they re steamed the last of the crabs because it was a half an hour to close. I called the next day to tell them how upset I was and that I wanted to bring the crabs back and get fresh steamed crabs. I don't know if it was the manager or the owner but they were very rude and told me they don't except return crabs.
