Regardless of what you're looking for, Libby & Sons - year after year named ONE OF THE BEST ORCHARDS IN THE ENTIRE COUNTRY (literally, friends) - has everything you could want from a PYO experience. The corts and macs are always crisp and delicious; the blueberry options are lovely whether you want sweet or tart; the juicy donut peaches are unlike anything I've ever had anywhere (#TeamTangO)... in general, the picking is abundant and plentiful year after year after year. And they do a fantastic job daily updating their website with what's in season, out of season, picked out for the season, pricing structure (it makes sense if you know how hard they tried to stay open during the pandemic/the cost of growing quality and environmentally conscious fruits), etc. The views of the surrounding countryside are breathtaking. The glazed blueberry donuts are the best blueberry donuts I've ever had from anywhere ever. And the people who work here are absolutely the friendliest human beings on earth and genuinely remember you year after year. They make you feel like a welcome part of their family, and I love that (especially in a more automated, less personalized society). If you ever get the chance to talk to the owner about the science of apples (pomology) or the history and future of their personal agricultural story, you absolutely should. There were many rows to pick at and the man at the service counter was extremely nice. He let us know where we were able to pick (in which rows) and he gave us information about how much weight wise the tray of blueberries could hold as opposed to the pint containers. They had an offer called Bleubs & Blooms where for $45 you could pick four pints of blueberries AND make two bouquets of flowers with as many flowers as you could get in the provided glass jar from their beautiful field. The staff was lovely! Engaging and encouraging and educated; every question we had, they had a great answer for. We were given tips, tricks, and advice for picking ("go way down back, because no one seems to be doing that and the blueberries are amazing down there" and "there aren't many raspberries left, so we won't charge you if you take a pint and don't end up filling it"); it was a genuinely wholesome and organic feeling interacting with them and being allowed to wander the property at our own pace. There was no tipping expected/required, we could walk down to the rows of blueberries ourselves or grab an occasional golf cart going by, we were allowed to spend as much time as we wanted in the flower field. There were shaded picnic tables for us to sit and relax under; a small table near the check-out area with random produce available for purchase as well, lots of good signage, bathrooms, and no extra entertainment/fan fare/distractions. The owner greeted us, explained the prices and gave some picking suggestions. He was very pleasant. Raspberries were scarce at this point in the season but blueberries were plentiful on the bushes. They were clustered like grapes on the vine. These are high bush blueberries and the picking was easy. Our group picked 5 quarts, $8 each, blueberries and 1 pint, $5, raspberries in less than an hour There's something special about berry picking in Maine now I can't wait for my blueberry muffins.

On recommendation from McDougals, we went to check out this farm and was not disappointed! The Rivard Farm is a fantastic spot to pick blueberries! We came in early / mid August and there was plenty to pick from. They'll give you a plastic bag or jug and you weigh on your way out. Prices are good by the pound and you're getting the real deal from Maine! A fantastic family activity regardless of weather at a small family farm.
