He was friendly, a very nice smile, accommodating with my questions as I have a dairy allergy, and he checked on us just the right amount. I had the meatloaf, green beans, and sweet potato. I've been to other Cracker Barrel restaurants in other states and had no idea there was one in my home state. When I found out I was super excited ! We were in the desmoines area so we went for breakfast. It wasn't great. The food was ok but service was lacking. They weren't very busy as it was a Tuesday. The hostess was not rude but not friendly either. The server acted annoyed because my friend reminded her that she ordered a side of cheesy potatoes. Instead of just going and getting them she corrected her and said that she never ordered them. There were 3 of us there and we all heard her order the potatoes. It did not even need to be an issue but the server made it uncomfortable. There was one lady, very friendly in the country store who was very nice and helpful. She helped me pick out some things to buy and checked some prices for me. The selection in the store was good! Halloween and Christmas all out for display! That was fun! That was the best part. Overall, I won't make a huge effort to go out of my way to visit this particular Cracker Barrel restaurant. read more

Leadership in this restaurant is horrible. They consistently mess up orders!! When you call the store they refuse to transfer the call to the manager in the kitchen. They also teach the art of hanging up on the customer!! Took me three calls to resolve the missing items and even the last supposed manager said he would refund me and I started to ask a question and once again, mid sentence he did the Cracker Barrel training perfectly and HUNG UP on me! This company USED to care about the customer service. If you think that you are stopping off of the freeway to just have a Country breakfast or soup and salad and it should be decent because it has a household name like Cracker Barrel? You're wrong! If I can save one person from stopping here, then I will have done my job. Our waitress was rude from the moment we got there till the moment we left. Snappy ,catty, and demanding. When I sent our soup back, which was the vegetable, I told her it was inedible. She sent over the manager not five seconds later who proceeded to tell me" this is our vegetable soup". I said yes, I know. He then says "I'm just telling you that this is our vegetable soup so when you come back, you don't order it again as this is what it always taste like." I told him I am not coming back He continues to tell me that this is our vegetable soup to which I replied again, I'm never coming back, so it doesn't matter. He was very unfriendly. We had the rest of what we had wrapped up, which was all disgusting by the way. Chicken tenders that was mechanically, separated, and glued back together strips. It was gross looking and we tossed it all in the trash at the next stop. Everything we got was absolutely disgusting and a frozen banquet meal would have been better. Ambience is a wanna be diner, dressed up under a low class Walmart umbrella. I've been in the service industry, and I know what good service looks like. I stopped here for a Sunday breakfast. It was really busy and they did a pretty great job of moving through tables. However, I wasn't super impressed with the food. I went to the location in Des Moines Iowa on Friday august 19th around 10:30am. Came for breakfast with my husband traveling home Nebraska to Chicago. we both ordered the country boy breakfast with steak medium rare more on the medium side and upon receiving the steak it look completely raw asked to have it put back on the grill it still came back raw. If I could give this restaurant 0 stars, I would. We were regulars and came here every weekend, but that's now changing since they've gone completely downhill. They call you up to the host stand saying your table is ready, when there's no tables ready. The hosts are rude, they assume you'll follow them without even telling you they're seating you. Last weekend, we ordered a scramble with steak bites and the steak was UNCOOKED. It was completely raw meat. They didn't offer to comp it, and they replaced it with unseasoned steak bites. When we voiced our concerns, management yelled at the server, when it wasn't her fault. This weekend we went back to give them another chance, in hopes that last weekend was just a mishap. But this weekend when we ordered a steak scramble, there were no eggs, and only 1 piece of diced tomato when there should have been a lot. When we told our server and the manager, we were given a side of cold eggs, the general manager Jason seemed to not care at all, and after saying he would comp it, he didn't and it was a pain to deal with at the register. Turns out they also forgot to include forks in their silverware sets this weekend. I'm extremely disappointed, to say the least. read more

The staff here could not have been better. Coming in after a long road trip and weekend after passing of a husband and father my mom and I were craving comfort and embarking on healing. "Stellar Stephanie" (a nickname we coined during our dining experience) could not have been more amazing. Her attitude, kindness, and empathy were simply just that... stellar. In a time of need, crackle barrel food provided the comfort we craved but the staff provided so much more. We checked it online, always a great plus, and easy to check in at the hostess station once we arrived. There was PLENTY of people working, 4 at hostess stand most of the time. Waitress was friendly and quick. I ordered the strawberry French toast breakfast, strawberries were cut a while ago but still good despite the browning on the edges. French toast was delicious and came with its own small bottle of warmed up maple syrup. My boyfriend ordered the fresh start breakfast with a yogurt parfait and muffin. My main problem was that a small carton of milk, the size kids get at school, was $2.39. Everything else was reasonably priced but we were just floored that one cup was so high. read more

Let me start by saying that Cracker Barrel is one of my favorite restaurants. That being said, I have rarely ever been more disappointed by any restaurant. We started out fine. Service not horrible, then our food arrived, my meatloaf was ice cold. It took 10 minutes to get our server back to tell him. He took it back to the kitchen and told me it would be back soon. He was not. By the time he brought the meatloaf back, I had pretty much filled up on the apple slices and my wife's nasty chicken strip. The replacement meatloaf was as nasty as before, just a bit warmer. When we told the server, he took $2.00 off our bill. My wife spoke to a manager about a cook who wasn't using safe food handling procedures. The manager didn't seem to care at all. I wasn't asked by the cashier how my meal was. We will go back to Cracker Barrel, but not that one. read more

I haven't been here since the pandemic but there may still be a worker shortage in the kitchen because we waited quite a long time for our breakfast to come out. My scrambled eggs were warm at best. The sausage patties seemed to have a main flavor of salt with a hint of spiciness and boy, they were dry and tough -- kind of heading toward 'sausage jerky' territory. I ordered sourdough toast which for some reason was served grilled on one side. Is the toaster busted? My wife had the biscuits which were not the best in town. Seems to have gone downhill since the last time I went. And the breakfast menu is a logistical mess. if you just want pancakes and a side, you piece it together yourself, there isn't a listing that doesn't have eggs and 13 other things. And I don't quite understand how in this day and age, a restaurant can serve coffee but they don't give you a spoon? I dunno, seems silly. read more

Had an okay-breakfast here. While their food isn't my usual breakfast jam, would come back again if someone else in my party wanted to. -Tables aren't too close to one another. I still felt like I had space despite not seeing a single open table. -Wait wasn't unreasonable. 15 minutes for a Sunday morning isn't bad. There's the (odd?) trinket shop to browse and buy from while you wait - children's toys, home decor, individual candies, individual craft sodas, etc. -They have sugar-free syrup. They WARM IT UP FOR YOU BEFORE SERVING IT TO YOU. That's awesome! The bottles were easy to open - if you like drowning things in syrup, you might want to request two (they seem to only bring one per person if requested). -Ordering a specialty soda will land you a fresh-opened 16oz glass bottle of it and an iced-over beer mug to pour it yourself and drink as you please. Since it's the same price as a cup for the unlimited standard soda, well worth the price. -Our waitress, Sharon, was super sweet and took time to interact with us. -There's a game on the table to play to keep people occupied. They sell versions to take home in their giftshop. -Pancakes were good. The portion was fine when I was feeling a bit peckish. I'd probably still want more food if I was starvingly-hungry when seated. It's a decent amount for $7 - but that price might get you entirely full at another breakfast establishment. (I had the Blueberry pancakes) -Biscuits are delicious. Yummmmmm. It's clear that Cracker and Barrel makes quite a bit of money off the tourism and "experience" of eating here, but the actual experience wasn't too bad either. Food is usually very good if you eat there and the service is usually some of the best you'll receive. I would advise against delivery however as the portions are obviously much smaller and it seems they find all the worst product and send it off since you then can't complain to them in person. The wait here is long when you show up at 1140am on a Sunday morning. We had to wait 40 minutes before we were seated. While waiting outside, we were subjected to a bunch of cigarette smokers because Cracker Barrel had placed their cigarette receptacles right outside the entrance. By law there is no smoking within 15 feet of an establishment. This was definitely not 15 feet away. As for the food and the service, it was great! During our visit there was a screaming child that was non-stop. I guess there was not much the restaurant could do about that. It definitely ruined the dining experience a bit.
