What a great little spot! Went here after shopping at the limerick outlets. It was a Saturday, early evening and it was definitely packed. It was a 45 min wait for a 4 person table, but man was it worth it! We were able to start a tab at the bar while we waited. Once we sat down they brought this amazing beer bread and whipped butter! I got the almond crusted trout with lentils and it was fantastic. All of the food was really delicious and you can't beat the draft and bottle selection. It was a great night! This is the go-to place for my wife and I on date night. The food is consistently good; we usually order a couple of appetizers plus an order of mussels for our meal and that makes us happy. The beer selection is fantastic, with the best bottle selection around in the W. Philly burbs, and the drafts are usually equally as good, but I do wish they'd have a few more European drafts on a regular basis. There's usually a few out of the 12+ taps, but they could put on a couple more. Just my preference for Belgian and belgian style beers, that's all. read more

The beer selection is the absolute best in the area, but that's where it ends with CAH. I too have experienced the rudeness of the hostess, but we had a good experience with the server. The food is terrible. Two of our party ordered the fish and chips and they were flat out the worst they've ever had. If you're looking for good beer, it's the only place in town. Has a great draft and bottle selection. Mix 6 take out is a nice option too. Lunch was a little pricey, and ok. Being a gastropub I was expecting more interesting choices. I ordered the Mahi fish tacos and they tasted like they were missing something and the jalapeño cream was just sour cream and the side order of chips were so coated with spices it made them inedible. Husband ordered fish and chips and they were good, tartar sauce was very bland though. Stepdaughter enjoyed her burger. Both came with a hardy order of hand cut fries. The Craft Ale House was the first "non-chain" restaurant that my husband and I had eaten at since we moved to the area. We went on a Friday for dinner and even though the atmosphere was upper-scale, the staff was welcoming of us bringing our infant son. There was also another family with younger children there, which made us feel better. What I really like about the atmosphere was that it seemed like a place that you could go for a causal dinner or a date night, and that their menu also reflects that: You are not limited to typical bar food. Everything we ate was delicious. The wait staff was very courteous and our server was extremely helpful on recommending some craft beers to my husband (an aspiring craft beer aficionado). The reason that I am giving them four stars is because although it is a major benefit that they have a long array of craft beers that they serve, it can make the drink order seem a little overwhelming to a newcomer. read more

Beer selection is great. Had the special, pork porterhouse, and it was one of the more tasteful dishes I've had.

Menu items were not very exciting and there was no entree special. I had intended to order a salad but out of their 3 choices - I didn't see anything I really wanted so I went with the fish and chips. The fish was overly battered and the fries were mushy and too salty. The saving grace for this dish was the white tartar sauce. The food took a long time to come out and we had ordered before the lunch rush so that was surprising. My husband ordered the lamb sausage sandwich. He stated that the lamb was burnt and that there was so much mustard on the roll that it overpowered the whole sandwich (which explained why he left a lot of the roll on his plate). read more

We flew into Heritage Field Airport just to eat here upon another pilot's recommendation. Although the menu was limited for a picky eater such as myself, we did not fly away disappointed. Everyone at the table enjoyed their meals; the pork belly and the roast pork sandwich come highly recommended. A pleasant surprise was the live Irish band playing in the front. My fiancé was excited that they had sweet baby Jesus pnb stout. I got a pumpkin beer. I was asked if I wanted a sample first, which I appreciate. I ordered the strawberry ricotta salad and he ordered the fried catfish sandwich. We split the fries. All the food was great and the aoli for the fries was awesome. This is not the kind of restaurant we'd expect in Limerick, PA -- and it's a pleasant surprise! The restaurant features an amazing selection of bottled and draft beer at relatively reasonable prices, given the lack of competition in Suburban Philly! The food was outstanding -- I had the herbed ravioli, undoubtedly handmade, and really delicious. Others in my group ordered the special sirloin of the night, a hamburger, and a pulled pork sandwich. I would give the Craft Ale House 5 stars for their fantastic variety of beer selections (with a 4-5 page listing of them all on your table), 3 stars for their food due to the saltiness of most of the dishes., and 4 stars for atmosphere/background music/nice waitstaff. If your into beer like I am into food, then you will love this place. There are soo many beers on their selection list that someone with great beer knowledge would have assisted me alot in choosing something other than my Brooklyn Lager choice. We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday and we got there just before it got crowded. We were a party of 6, and they accomodated by putting 2 tables together. It is definitely a location for couples up to a 4 some in the main dining area, but if you plan on going with 6 or more be prepared to wait for enough space. But I would suggest, if going on a Friday/Saturday night that you be prepared to have a couple of beers at the bar and relax. We had a couple of appetizers: the tator tots and the spinach dip. The tator tots were small/dainty and about 8-10 of them. The spinach dip was tasty but soo salty. The cheeseburger was good; a little greasy but I would rather have it a little greasy then dry. It was a bit salty as well, but not as salty as the spinach dip. The hand made fries were cooked perfectly, but the salt was heavy handed on them as well. The fish and chips was like another yelper stated: heavy on the fries and light on the fish. There were 5 smaller sized pieces of fish. I understand the concept: it is a craft ale house and the highlight of the evening is the beer. For the beer, they definitely get 5 stars. But I have to take away1 star for the food if there was less salt. read more

Great place that opened up within the past few years near where I grew up. The explosion of craft brew bars around Philly is amazing and this is a great example. We've now had three really great meals at the Craft Ale House...two of which were on consecutive evenings. :) In the area for some shopping and relaxing, this place came highly recommended by a local store manager. This super nice guy was right on about this place--great food, awesome beer selection, and leave room for dessert! A few notables: -The chicken tender appetizer is awesome. Sauces are legit and made in-house! -The pulled pork sandwich is enough for two people. -Yes, the chicken pot pie is awesome and a little different from Marie Calendars. It's delicious and surprisingly light. -Fried mozzarella cheese curds are best eaten with the arugula and smokey tomato sauce. -One of the best burgers I've ever had! Ask for the bourbon bbq sauce--you won't regret it! -Servers are friendly and helpful with both the beer and food menu. Don't be afraid to ask for recommendations! read more

My first time dining at the restaurant. And I have to say that I had the best meal since I moved into the neighborhood four years ago. I had the special of striped bass and looked and tasted like I was in an upscale center city restaurant. Food was incredible and service, impeccable. Wow! The beer coolers rival a boutique beer store with such an extensive selection that it takes 7 pages to list them all. Add to that an impressive variety on tap and a creative menu with fresh ingredients, and you have the perfect pub. There was a 20 minute wait at 6:00 on a Saturday... just enough time for a drink at the bar and to get a feel for how great this place is. Cozy, friendly, just right all around. We enjoyed lunch here post outlet shopping, courtesy of a "craft beer" search via Yelp. The bottled beer list is impressive, including 4 Russian River selections (though, none a hophead would be interested in: the Belgian, brown, golden, and I forget the fourth). The Spinach Dip appetizer was good, but the toast points way too crunchy (so hard most were left uneaten). It would have been much better served w/the same grilled bread that accompanied the mussels. My husband's steak sandwich had the same issue. I enjoyed the Funky Farmhouse mussels and our companions both enjoyed the Baked Potato Soup. This is a nice place, but the atmosphere is a little stuffy for our liking. I'd rather eat lunch the same distance in the other direction at the Railroad St Bar and Grille (w/a similar beer selection). Service was fine, though beer delivery was a bit slow. I'd prefer eating at the bar here, as opposed to a table. read more
