Crafted is my neighbor, and I have visited 45 times over the years. If I turn to my right as I type this, I will quite literally see their lovely covered patio space. As such, it doesn't exactly feel great to be downgrading my review, but my previous sentiments aren't necessarily accurate anymore. My visits have dropped off in recent months, and it seems like the restaurant itself is dropping off, too, if you just read some of their latest reviews or stop in. I know they had a shift in their ownership, and it appears to be reflecting poorly on the restaurant. I'm not a big craft beer drinker anymore, but it turns out that doesn't matter, as Crafted is no longer a craft beer spot (see the picture I posted today for their offerings). I used to looooove traipsing over there to try their rotating draft list with some top-tier brands on it. This past weekend, I had a beer-loving friend in town from another state, so we stopped in on Thursday night. The bar area was pretty empty around 7 pm. I was embarrassed that I wasted his time, as they just serve domestics and the most basic of local pours these days. When I talked to the bartender about it, he seemed fairly nonchalant and informed me that Crafted can mean more than beer, such as craft food and craft cocktails. So let's talk about the craft cocktail I ordered. I selected the espresso martini. I love a good espresso martini. Crafted managed to serve me the worst one I genuinely think I've ever consumed. It was weirdly frigid, crunchy, and looked like it was curdling upon arrival. I don't know how they managed it, but I would highly recommend not ordering one of those. I've ordered quite a bit from their food menu over the years. I didn't order any food on our latest trip to see if it fits the "craft" label, but I've been within the past few months for dinner and it was just okay. Nothing extraordinary. I know they're impacted by inflation so I won't comment on the drastic price increases I've seen beyond saying they have been pretty steep jumps for decreasing quality. At this point in time, unless they have a major revamp, I don't see a reason to return. I'd rather spend my money on an experience I know is going to be better and my money will be appreciated, such as at my other neighbors, Acacia and Shagbark. read more

I highly recommend starting with the drinks -- the menu has a wide variety of creative options, but even the well drinks were solid. Great bar all around. As for the food, the crab dip has more of a soup-like consistency, so if you're expecting something thick and hearty, it might not be for you. The chips and queso were pretty basic -- not bad, but nothing memorable. On my first visit, I ordered the beef and cheddar, but the beef was really dry, and I wouldn't recommend it. On a return visit, I got the club wrap with onion rings, and it was much better -- flavorful, fresh, and well put together. Service has been consistently attentive and welcoming, which always makes a difference. I'll definitely be back to explore more of the menu. read more

The wings were fantastic. They are a bit expensive but there is a happy hour where you get it cheaper ($10 I believe). Smoked wings is my new favorite way to eat wings. Also had the burgers and they were pretty good but the wings were the star of the show! read more

Another delicious lunch/diner at Crafted. I was craving a hamburger and the Fig & Pig didn't disappoint. Fig preserves, Brie cheese & bacon. I requested medium rare and it was a little more medium well but still juicy and satisfying. Served with plenty shoestring fries I tried the Potters Farmhouse Cider with it. My waitress noted that this cider was dry and wine like and she was spot on. Delicious, dry, crisp with a nice mouthfeel. I wish I caught her name as she was attentive and informative without smothering. Crafted is dressy casual. Comfortable like an old pair of jeans but paired with a nice purse and leather boots. read more

The atmosphere was conducive to talking and not shouting. Everyone in my party enjoyed their food and cocktails. Would definitely stop by next time we're in town! We've been here a handful of times and this will probably be our last. In the past the service has always been pretty good and the food hit or miss but on this Sunday brunch outing the service was truly painful and the food was mediocre at best. The host was welcoming and prompt but that's where good service ended. It took 12 minutes for someone to come welcome us, hand out silverware and bring us water. Our orders were finally taken after twenty minutes from arrival and another half an hour for breakfast food to arrive. Strangely, a table of two that arrived after us was done eating by the time we got our food. They had a different server. Thankfully we had a lot of catching up to do with friends. Unfortunately the service did not improve throughout the meal and we never got any refills for water or tea. The server was clearly irritated when we asked if one of the refills we never got could be made to go. They brought the cup back with out a word and a disgruntled look on their face. The food: we ordered a cinnamon roll, the james spott, the southern bennie and French toast platters. The cinnamon roll was good but not great. Didn't seem fully cooked and not warm at all. The james spott was missing the bacon and was not a great pairing with the biscuit since the poached egg just made it soft and mushy. The only thing good about it was the fried chicken. The southern bennie fared a little better according to my friend. The French toast platter ms were adequate. Pretty much what you'd get if you made it yourself and not bad if you consider the reasonable price. The price was the only good thing about this visit which is why I gave it any stars. If you don't care about service and are OK with standard fare, then give it a go. But I will say that my friend didn't even take their tea to go because they were afraid the server spit in it since she was clearly unapologetic about forgetting our requested refills the entire meal. read more

I visited this establishment a few years ago and enjoyed the food and our experience however, fast forward to today, not so much. The service was lackluster and the food was just edible. The wait time for the food was astronomical only to have be served food we didn't order is unacceptable. There was no communication from the waitress to the table about the extended wait. I inquired about the wait time and was advised (by the manager) that it was due to the holiday however, after reading other reviews (something I should have done prior to returning) it seems to be their norm. To add insult to injury, we ordered entrees from the Brunch menu that were to include breakfast potatoes only to be served French fries + my eggs were not prepared as requested (over hard) and the grits were quite gritty. There was no communication from the kitchen to the table(s) regarding the change; serving French fries, instead of breakfast potatoes, with brunch is diabolic. Crafted my a$$. Crafted from what? Freezer bags? Our meal was embarrassing. My sister had a burger that was clearly from a freezer bag and cooked until it was dark grey. Fig jam and Brie? Looked more like jelly and cream cheese. My mother had a salad with grilled shrimp. Grilled? AGAIN with the freezer bag. They didn't grill the shrimp, but took them out of the pre-cooked bag and ran them under cold water until they were "defrosted". Grilled?! Ice cold and slimy. Did the cook even read the menu?! Crab cake entree? Crab cakes were a smear of grey, greasy potted meat and the "shoe string fries" were again from a freezer bag. The asparagus on top tasted like they'd been thrown in the fryer. How was my drink? My beer glass was dirty. There is no fixing this dump. The only hope is that it closes and something else opens in its place. The server looked embarrassed to be there. I was fine with my order as I got pasta and a house salad and it was filling and sufficient. However, there were a couple problems with Crafted which made it not a great experience especially when related to so many other similar types of options in any major city like Richmond. I had two other friends that ordered fish and chips. The fish did not really look good to begin with and certainly not in a style one would expect of pub fish in a fish & chips order. They then asked for tartar sauce. Crafted does not have tartar sauce. How about malt vinegar? No malt vinegar. I could let slide the malt vinegar, but no tartar sauce?! You shouldn't even have fish & chips on the menu then. What was further bizarre was one of the employees that came around (presumably a floor manager?) was wearing a polo shirt of a completely different restaurant. It didn't make any sense. It's not necessary to have Crafted branded shirts but just don't wear a shirt of another restaurant. It's confusing and kind of doesn't making me feel like you give a damn about the actual restaurant you're currently working in. Our server was nice but those downfalls related to the food would be why I wouldn't return and simply to point out that the essentials for their menu items and for pub food are inexplicably missing and that, on a simple level, needs improvement. read more

Crafted is such a gem of a restaurant! Located in the heart of Libby Mill, I love the rustic yet modern vibe that this restaurant has. I went with a large group of friends and we all enjoyed the meals that we ordered. There was a variety of salads, appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, and more. Plus, their Sunday brunch menu looks fantastic! I opted for the Greek Salad and it was super fresh & delicious. My friends' also recommended the Midtown sandwich, Tomato Basil Soup, Alabama Lady Bird Sandwich, and the nachos. Additionally, our server was so attentive and helpful. I felt like we got our food at a great rate and very quickly, especially considering the quality. They also had a good variety of options for Happy Hour, which ends at 7pm. I thought the food here was very tasty! Service was really good. The ambience is nice and laid-back. I had the meatloaf and it wasn't very good. I did not like the sauce that came on the meatloaf. It really took away the natural flavor of the dish. My other half had the shrimp and grits and oh my goodness dish is bursting with mouthwatering flavor. Everything was cooked perfection. If you're going to eat here, I highly recommend this dish.! This is a good local spot to grab some good food. Also, have they have this drink made with Jen and it kind of looks like a Mojito and I can't remember the name of it. Crafted? ...they need to hone their craft. The food is good, especially the burgers, but the management leaves much to be desired. This is my 6th visit here and it gets exceedingly worse every time. I'm hoping some more restaurants will open up at Libbie Mill so there will be some other eatery choices. On one visit we were completely ignored and it took 45 minutes to get out drinks, mind you we have an hour for lunch. The manager should have compensated us in some small way, but alas, we left disillusioned. This most recent trip, there were about at least 7 open tables, yet I was told by the salty hostess that there would be a 15 minute wait. I was also told they were short staffed, a frequent excuse for their subpar service. I asked to be seated while I waited, and she refused my request. We went to Crafted on a Tuesday night when my husband and I didn't feel like cooking. Overall we had a good experience. Our waiter was kind and attentive and the service was pretty efficient. It was pretty quiet so the vibes were really relaxed. Our cocktails were refreshing and delicious. The food was tasty but nothing too spectacular. The appetizer was unique and fun - the redneck bruschetta had fried green tomatoes, prosciutto and pimento cheese - a combo that was tasty and one I've not had before. Our entrees were what was just ok. For a summer pasta it felt really heavy and my chicken salad wrap was good but I've had more flavorful ones before. I'll be back but likely order something else. I'd like to go back for their brunch sometime cause the menu looked fun. read more

This quite literally may have been one of the worst bar experiences I've ever had. Met a friend here for their happy hour (iirc it was $1 off alcohol, not a great hh compared to most but whatever)....we sat at the bar. The place was DEAD at 5:30 on a weekday, which should have been a sign. The bartender comes over, barely looks at me, drops off a water and walks away. I ended up borrowing the menu from my friend. When the bartender came back over, we attempted to chat with her and I told her we were deciding but I was torn between two things and she paused for an awkward amount of time and then just goes "well....let me know what you decide" while walking away. She acted annoyed that she had customers the whole time, even though the restaurant was not busy in the slightest. I ended up going with the cold brew old fashioned, which was at least tasty. We ordered some small plates to share but spent the whole time feeling like we were imposing. As we wrapped up, the other employees and our bartender were pretty obviously signaling to each other that they were ready to be done for the day. It was 7pm (hours are until 10) although I guess I'd want to leave too if I had only two parties at my bar...super unwelcoming and awkward experience. Food was blah like most other reviews state. It's a shame, this spot is in a good location, it's huge, and there's so many apartments within walking distance that they have the potential to be a great hangout. You should definitely check this place out! My alum chapter had an event here and they laid out a full spread. Nachos, quesadillas, wings, various sauces/ salsas,chicken, etc. The cocktails are really good. The Mitz Spritz is a great cocktail if you want something kind of springy and refreshing. Others with me liked the burgers too. The service was very attentive and regularly checked on us. It's a really beautiful place inside and out with a great patio when the weather is nice. Went with friends to celebrate my husband's birthday. They take reservations which is helpful for a Saturday but when arriving, the place was quiet. It filled up more during the evening. We were greeted immediately by Hannah who was very friendly and on top of her game. The drinks were mediocre for the $. The Espresso Martinis were not great and small, and the cold brew had to go back for more cold brew and bitters. The food came out quickly. Visited for the first time for lunch with a friend and absolutely enjoyed it. I made a reservation through Resy but we could've walked in as we were there 30 minutes after opening. The restaurant and bar area (where we were seated) definitely got more crowded while we were chatting. Our server was great and patient with us; especially me because it took me 3 samples before I settled on a strawberry cider lol. We took her suggestion and tried the Brussels for our appetizer and they were cooked perfectly and seasoned just as great. It was hard to select what we wanted from the menu so I'll definitely be back. But I enjoyed my poboy; the shrimp were fried well and the slaw gave it more flavor than expected. The wait staff at Crafted was great. The cocktails were amazing!! The vibe is like a whiskey bar. The food, after it was sent back from being cold, was good. I had pork chop with polenta and collard greens - pork was hot (dry) but sides were cold. My partner had ossobucco and the risotto was hot but meat was cold. And, it's in a red tomato sauce (not expected as it's not described as such in the menu). After we sent back the food, we waited a while for the replacements to arrive. My husband switched to pork chop too. They accommodated us nicely, even comped a drink and discounted the meal. We appreciated that. First and last time to Crafted. We sat on the restaurant side and ambiance was non-existent. Just a room with tables and chairs. No decor, uncomfortable chairs, and no soft surfaces to absorb any noise. Stark and boring. The food was equally lackluster. Started by sharing an entree salad with shrimp. The menu description made it sound interesting. It was not. I will say the lettuce was fresh but the shrimp were so bland. No seasoning at all. Like they were just boiled in water and that's it. A tiny smattering of the other toppings but mostly just a mound of chopped lettuce. We quickly ran out of dressing and needed more as there was zero flavor to the salad without it. But our waiter was no where to be found. We finally had to flag down someone else after a ridiculous amount of time. (It was NOT busy) Also second drink took so long we were almost done with our meal. We shared the fried chicken sandwich and it was just ok. Our biggest gripe was the French fries. Obviously frozen from a bag. If you're going to name your restaurant Crafted, then you should CRAFT THE FOOD. Think it through, offer something unique and hand made. We stopped here one afternoon to give this place a try and it did not disappoint. Our server, Laura, was friendly and attentive. I am picky about my beer so they aloud me a sample to find one I liked. My husband didn't like that they cam in wine glasses so they gave him his second round in a regular glass. We had the Broad St., the Libbie Mill, and the Engine Co 10. They were all excellent. We were disappointed they were out of onion rings but we plan to return so maybe next time. I also inquired about having a Christmas party and was helped by another worker who was just as nice. The only concern I did have was the table. My husband almost hurt himself because a hunk was missing. I'm sure this is probably reclaimed wood or part of the design but I think it would be safer if they filled it in with some artistic resin or something as I saw our table wasn't the only one that looked like it could use it. read more

Always a fan favorite for lunch. As a matter of fact, we went there this week and after seeing this thick-cut bologna sandwich, I had to try it the next time I came in, which I did on this particular trip. Mind you, I hadn't had a bologna sammie in a bajillion years, much less a thick cut one. But they did it right by frying it up in the pan and getting a little sizzle sizzle on it. I also had never had a bologna sammie with so much veggies on a thick cut toast either. I don't know about you but back when I was eating bologna sandwiches, we made ourselves a sammie by slapping two regular cut bologna slices in between two giant or wonder bread (whichever was cheaper) slices of bread. Then a cup of milk and I was golden. Sometimes, if we got fancy, we'd add a slice of Kraft cheese. This sandwich was nowhere close to that and the veggies were super fresh. The only drawback of this meal though was that it was super messy, and everything was sliding around with every bite. I ended up having to leave half of it on the plate and picked at my veggies with a fork so I didn't waste those! The service, per usual, was great and the ambience, the same. The reason for the fifth star is their consistency. I haven't gone in there and gotten a bad meal or bad service. Definitely recommend as a casual spot for lunch or dinner. read more

We immediately ordered our food and when they brought it out we told them that we only had 3 things of silverware and asked for a fourth the male waiter just never returned. Why only four stars instead of five? When we arrived at noon, we were seated promptly. The restaurant appeared to be about 1/2 full at that time. We waited about 10 minutes, maybe a little longer, for a server to come over. When she did come, we placed our order immediately and everything else with lunch went smoothly.. the food was delicious, the server attentive to refills, etc, for the remainder of our lunch. I visited Crafted for a business lunch so that we could continue talking work through the meal. Crafted is similar in menu variety and food quality to the best of the various shopping mall out-building offerings. The lunch menu consists of appetizers, salads, sandwiches, and burgers. Prices are on the high side for a typical lunch of similar provision, but I would expect higher than average pricing in the Libbie Mill complex. Service was prompt, if not very present after the food was dropped. The place was busy for a lunch hour but didn't feel cramped. I may go back for a dinner experience, as the "after 4 PM" menu looked a bit more interesting. A decent place for a business lunch, or for a break in shopping if you are in the near west end. read more

I needed to book a private room for a group of 24. The website advised to call the restaurant for this so I did. The first time I called the girl I spoke with said the manager has to do this and she's away. The girl took down my number and promised to have the manager call. After five days of not hearing anything I decided to call again. Once again the manager was not in. I left another message. At this point I probably should have looked for another venue but this venue was the closest in proximity to my other team event and had plenty of parking options so I really wanted to push to make this work. After a few more days I was able to connect with the manager and reserve the room. I asked the manage if the room could accommodate 24 people and was told it could. There was no price for the room but we did have to agree to spend at least 800 dollars for food and beverage with a group of this size I had no concerns. On the day of the event we get to our room which is sectioned off by a sliding barn door. We had one large table for 24 people. The chairs were so close together that many people had to slide back to the wall to eat their meals or eat In shifts- not great. The noise in that room really carries it was loud in there that you could barely have a conversation with the person next to you. We had to text friends on the other end of the table. We had only one server. She was wonderful and did the best she could but it took a long time. 90 minutes into our dining experience and we finally had our order taken. The food quality was not good. I had ordered chicken skewers for the group (not sure of the official menu name) but they were bland and dry no seasoning. We also had Philly cheesesteak egg rolls which were over cooked.For dinner I had a burger that was burnt and unseasoned. This experience was not at all what I imagined it would be. I think a more realistic max head count for that private dining space would be 16 people. We payed well over 1200 dollars for bad food in a really loud and warm room. I had issues with the billing as well but the manager was kind enough to call quickly and get things straighten up. I will say the cocktails we ordered were done really well. Perhaps smaller groups and happy hours are something they do well here. Me personally I would not recommend this venue to anyone for a private event or large group dinner based on my experience. read more

The decor to start was modern, casual and well designed- blues, browns, whites- with a great bar hosting a large line of craft beers on tap plus a nice selection of bourbon, tequila, and other fun beverages. Our bartenders were engaging while not pushy, helped with some suggestions, and kept the service going. My drink was delish! The Blood and Smoke is one of their signature cocktails. The Libby Mill sandwich on GF was just what I'd hoped- alll the meats stacked between some of the best Wheat-less bread I've tried, flavored with crisp sliced tomato and red onion. The cheese melted onto it reminded me of cheese toast, browned a bit but just right. My husband had the Beefy Cheddar which was equally impressive and tasty. We went there a couple mths ago... late lunch so service was fast - very clean - pleasant. ( same for all subsequent visits ) Not even going to talk about my friend's most awesome salad. I will wax on about the most amazing chix sandwich - ever. I did not want one of the few "pre designed" chix sandwiches. I wanted the same old thing... and I paid for it. Fried Chix sammie with swiss, bacon, LT and mayo on the side. WOW. Every single thing about this sandwich was amazingly awesome. IMHO, they could pound the breast a bit more evenly... But - they really do marinade the bird before frying in perfectly seasoned breading. The flavor! Moist! Even the bacon, that I think was glazed - and perfectly crispy! The seasoning on the breading... next level! That was the fried chix breast sandwich that left me wanting. Craving my next bite. Two wks later, I treated myself to another! The crying shame is that the bacon was mostly raw. By the time our server came to ask about our food, the Husband was half done with his lunch. She took my entire plate back... just because I asked for cooked (not raw / not kidding) bacon - nothing for me to eat. She did ask that I be given fresh fries when she returned my meal. The Husband was done upon the return of my meal. I asked for mine to be boxed to go. I am not in the kitchen, but I suspect that they tossed my bacon in the deep fryer so that it was border line burnt (ok, burnt) and lacked the wonderful flavor that their bacon usually has. I like crispy bacon - not burnt. I love the flavor of their bacon! Until it is killed by an upset line cook (my opinion, not fact), when the partially raw bacon is sent back. So. The chix is phenom! You will love it! If you are lucky enough to get perfectly seasoned crispy bacon... it might be the best chix sammie that you have ever had! I simply wasn't that impressed with this place. I went here with a reservation for a table of 2, we were seated quickly but our server was mediocre. We got the crab dip as an appetizer which was alright but overpriced in our opinion. We significantly enjoyed Tarrant's Spinach + crab dip more. The bread was nice though. I got the Beef & Cheddar sandwich which was decent, I appreciated how tender the prime rip was but the sauce was so light it wasn't noticeable which was disappointing because it sounded really good. The fries lacked seasoning & could've been fried longer. My partner got the Po'boy & thought it was fairly dry, we didn't see any remoulade on it. So all in all it was alright, but it's not somewhere I'd go back to. read more
