Frozay was a cool spot! We visited on a weekday so it wasn't packed at all but I can see it would be packed on the weekend. They had frozen drink specials...the drinks were too cute and the service was very friendly. It's a nice listen to music or live band spot..a little fancier than a sports bar style. I have been here on a few occasions, and it disheartens me to give such a poor review to a local small business. I will say that the food is okay, especially the whole lemon pepper snapper which is nicely seasoned. The service is ok, but the servers are not very knowledgeable about drinks or food items. It is also hard to get their attention on a Friday night because the music is so loud. I understand that they are trying to attract bar goers with the music, but it is so loud that you can't hear the people standing next to you and it is extremely hard to hear the server. Now, my biggest gripe is the fact that all I ordered on my recent visit was a double Jack Daniels on the rocks and it cost me $26!!! First of all, I bartended for many years and even managed a bar in this exact location about 16 years ago. So I know what a double looks like. I got charged $10 twice and I promise you that my drink was no more than 2oz of whiskey in total. Then, there was an automatic 18% service charge added to the ticket. That means, I paid a $3.60 tip for a drink that took all of 30 secs to make. I could have bought a 5th of Jack for that exact same amount. Or I could've bought 2 drinks next door at McCormacks for that amount and they would've put it in a real glass and not a tiny plastic cup. read more

Went here after a friend recommended it. First off, just know the place is kind of giving a club vibe. The music is blaring and it was a bit hard to talk or hear anything. The service wasn't the best either. The lady took 10 mins to even greet us and ask us if we wanted a drink. Once we ordered food it took another half hour. I was really surprised by how TINY the mini crab cakes were given the price of $14. Nonetheless, they were tasty and the sauce was the highlight of the dish. I also ordered the Honey Jerk wings. The greenery walls are the perfect aesthetic for a great photo opportunity. They offer a full bar and hookah. Now let's talk food! My favorite thing to order is the deep fried lemon pepper red snapper. The snapper comes whole and is cooked to sheer perfection! It's crunchy and moist! The lemon pepper elevates the taste. A perfect pairing with the red snapper is the macaroni and cheese, which has a homemade taste and isn't commercial at all and the asparagus. I would rate this dish a 9/10! The drinks are on the sweeter side, so if you like sweet mixed drinks than you would love theirs. The service is a tad slow. So, you will need patience. Arrived with full party and were made to stand for 45 minutes in the heat while they told me I had no reservation but they certainly took my payment and sent a confirmation! No refunds but they seated my party not at a table but scattered around the restaurant. They treated me like it was my fault, didn't acknowledge or attempt to rectify the situation. It was either take what we're offering or leave with no refund. Stopped by MiniBar on a Saturday around 8:30-9pm for a quick appetizer and drink with a friend. Restaurant was fairly empty..about 3 other parties at the current time. We were greeted outside and sat at the bar quickly. Our server was ok. Not too much convo, she did get our orders in quickly but I have to agree with previous reviews. She kept leaving to go sit outside in the front with other co workers. It didn't bother us but when it was time to leave she was outside and someone had to flag her in to bring us a check. If I'm paying $50+ for 2 drinks and appetizer at your bar I would at least expect your employees to stay inside. I highly doubt she was washing her hands each time she came back in. Any who, the crab cakes were good. Sauce was slightly spicy but not a bad thing. I probably will give them another try for lunch or dinner but the service needs to be a bit better. read more

1st time here and I can say I'm not too impressed by the service. Not sure if they were short on workers but it I had to wave the girl down to get her attention to ask for stuff. This was the first a last time I've been here (now Frozay RVA). You can't put a flower on food and call it good for one. They opened an hour and fifteen minutes late...then charged 18% gratuity while immediately taking payment for the food like it was a to-go order. I ventured here last month with two friends. We arrived around 7/730 and the place was not packed. Ww were s eww ated within about 6 minutes of arrival. This space is not very big, so it is very intimate. It is a great atmosphere. Love the uniform of the staff. I ordered the crab cakes appetizer. They were more like crab balls, but they were delicious. The sauce was great as well. A friend ordered the Big Ash Shrimp appetizer. Those were also good. The sauce was excellent. The shrimp were actually big. I intended to order the crab stuffed shrimp, but I was informed that they has run out of that dish. As a backup choice, I ordered the cajun pasta with shrimp. Just the right amount of spice and just the right amount of sauce. I could've used a little more shrimp. I love shrimp. It was a nice portion. My friends, respectively, ordered fried rice and jerk pasta. They said that their dishes were great. I would return and I hope that my next experience is the same is this one. [I did attempt to have Brunch the very next day. Upon my arrival (2 hours after they state that they open for brunch), there was a note handwritten on a piece of paper stating that they would not be open on that day. I have been wanting to come taste the food here as I have heard really good things about this restaurant & cocktail bar. A friend and I came Saturday 3/31/18 @6:30pm. This restaurant isnt that big but a comfortable size. The seating area at the bar was full and there were a few tables with a reserved sign on them which made there be about 3 tables available, lucky me! I ordered a Ceasar Salad and the Lobster Imperial which came with Roasted Red Potatoes and Asparagus. My friend ordered the Lemon Pepper Wings for his appetizer and for dinner the Lamb Chops with a Balsamic Glaze. This also came with the Roasted Red Potatoes and Asparagus. Both dinners were pretty good. The waitress offered us a side order of corn bread because of a slight wait, that was appreciated because we were both hungry. The corn bread was VERY good. This restaurant also had a buzzer thing on the table for you if you need the waitstaff. If you hit it, they are alerted on their "smart watch." Pretty cool. I'm blown away once again. I love the cuisine here and the presentation, even on takes out, is flawless. My burger was rich and seasoned to perfection, and reasonably priced for lobster tails. Friday had a great atmosphere and the DJ was phenomenal. The drinks were good and the overall atmosphere was quite a vibe BUT the organization was awful. We had brunch and paid in advance $60. The place was to open at 1 pm. we didn't get let in until 1:35. That is unprofessional to say the least. The buffet was delicious, however it came out at 3 which I was unaware that it was due to come out at that time so that may be on me. I thought 2:30 was the set time for the buffet. The overall experience was really great but if I were to actually give my own party there I would definitely want something written about the time. Minibar RVA is not far from my apartment and it first came on my radar during Black Restaurant Week. My schedule didn't allow me to visit then but the following Sunday I decided to see if the buzz was worth the hype. On Sunday's they have their brunch menu, which is small but everything sounded delicious. I ended up ordering one of their infamous Lights Out drink, which is rum punch cocktail served in a light bulb. This cocktail lives up to it's name because it is sweet but has a quiet bite and too many of these will definitely have you out like a light! My server and a regular customer sitting next to me at the bar, raved about the chicken wings and their fried fish so that is what I ended up ordering. I got the wings in the sweet whiskey sauce, which was tangy, sweet and finger licking good! The wings are a must order when you come here. The fried fish was just as good. 4 pieces of tender whiting fish seasoned down to the socks, breaded and fried to the heavens, served with amazing cooked potatoes. Along with the friendly staff and the great ambiance of 90's R&B playing in the background, Minibar had spoken to my foodie spirit. My second visit was for dinner, thus a different menu! I ended up getting the Ciroc Sangria and Jerk Chicken Pasta. My cocktail and my entree was even better than my previous meal. The chicken had a kick but the pasta sauce balanced out the heat into perfect harmony. The pasta also came with a small piece of cornbread, which tasted like yummy pound cake. The portion of the pasta was so big I had to take most of it home for leftovers. On top of that the staff remembered my order and me from my previous visit. That really resonated with me, I love customer service that is genuine and gives that personal touch. When my bill came I was even more surprised to find that my drink and pasta had a $2 discount for each for happy hour ( 5 pm -7pm). Thank you Mini Bar for two great meal experiences. Went today for the first time for their Sunday brunch. When I say that was the best buffet for brunch I've had in Richmond I mean it. The Rasta pasta was perfect. The salmon was season very well. The fried fish was a " lil " to salty for my liking, however it was still good. The pitcher of mimosas were great, definitely all champagne (hold the orange juice). I do recommend that you purchase your ticket before for your reservation because the first come first serve seating goes quick. This was my first and last time at this restaurant and I was not pleased at all. First you walk in order your food they charge you 18% gratuity up front then you go to your table order drinks and they charge you another 18% gratuity that's unrealistic. I paid almost $40 for 6 chicken wings and 1 drink (see pictures below). The wings had good flavor and were cooked perfectly. The service was horrible we waiting 30 mins for food which was not bad but then another 10 minutes for silverware. Approximately 12 tables in the building 3 waitresses Still horrible service. I really enjoyed my visit to Minibar RVA. This was a solo restaurant trip because my boyfriend is allergic to shellfish and i don't have any girlfriends in RVA. Minibar RVA is a seafood restaurant that offers a short specialty menu. I like that! I ordered the shrimp Cajun pasta which was creamy and favorable. It's was very delicious, a hearty portion and was served with sweet cornbread. The bartender poured a nice drink and the atmosphere was comfortable. I really liked the decor of this restaurant and staff were very nice! They should be careful with the music played during business hours, trendy rap music with curse words was playing loudly when i arrived but it was changed to something softer after a while. I do suggest that they purchase an open sign for the outside. The restaurant looks very plain from the outside and I was unsure if they were open for business. And the locks in the ladies room Need to be fixed. All of my critiques can be easily fixed. I will definitely come back to Minibar RVA and I would recommend this place to others. Ordered wings to go on a Saturday night at about 8:30. The server advised it would be ready in 30 minutes. Well she completely lied when I arrived at the venue 30 minutes she said my wings hadn't even dropped and it would be an additional hour wait. This instantly made me upset however I waited. This is the most unprofessional establishment because the chef and some of his friends were hanging out at the bar and outside of the restaurant. I watched them tell several customers who apparently were told the wrong pick up time as well that their food would be ready in an additional hour as well. The wings were delicious got the Hennessy and Jerk wings. So it's unfortunate that this venue can't get their customer service together. Piece of advice. Take down the customers number and call them about 15 mins before it will be fulfilled to give a more accurate timeframe when they should arrive for pick up. It's just that simple. They have a few things to iron out in their process during the covid closure. read more

Went here because one of my associates invited me. It had a nice little vibe. We got there about 10 minutes before happy hour ($2 off signature drinks and $2 off small plates) and the bartender that served us gave us the heads up. I ordered the Hennessy and sangria drink which by the way was really good. For my food I got the Cajun pasta and shrimp because it had great reviews and I wasn't let down. It was perfectly seasoned the the shrimp were amazing. The reason I am giving them 3 stars is because of the service and the fact that I had to wait almost an hour for an order of plantains I ordered to go. Had she not given me the check to pay about 40 minutes before I would've cancelled the order. There had to be at least 10+ waiters and waitresses there on top of the 2+ bartenders which I felt was unnecessary given the size of the location. We decided to try Minibar for takeout as we are trying to support local restaurants in our neighborhood in particular and got some ribeyes and lobster. Everything was cooked and seasoned well. Fair pricing and huge portions. They don't have a sophisticated menu here but the food is solid and they've adapted well to this new takeout only model restaurants have had to resort to due to the Covid pandemic. If I could zero stars I would. This was my first time and last time ever going to Frozay. I went on a Sunday for their brunch. First you have to pay before stepping in. After very very long wait for the buffet to open. While your customers are waiting offer some appetizers or give your paying customers an explanation for the wait. The drink menu offers no variety. You're a brunch spot but you don't have bloody Mary's on the menu. The buffet finally opened there was no variety in that. Where's the fruits, vegetables,dessert, eggs that are not powdered. My experience was lackluster, and I was a bit disappointed. There's nothing wrong with employees getting automatic gratuity, but how can employees get automatic gratuity for a service they're not providing. The first young lady just took the order, payment and never saw her again for an 18% gratuity she didn't put any work to get. We had to run people down to get assistance. The food was horrible. We had the fried lobster burger; the bread was stone hard; they over toasted it, and we had to wait 15 minutes for an extra two slices of bread. Secondly, we had the Cajun pasta, which wasn't spicy at all and wasn't right. The shrimp on the Cajun pasta had no flavor or nothing, not even a sear on it. Looked like a shrimp cocktail on top of pasta. They said the pasta had broccolini, but it was just regular broccoli, lol. Lastly, we ordered the bread pudding, and we never got it, so I need a refund for that. We received no service from the employees unless you ran them down since they were engrossed with their cellphones. Except The bartender who serviced us was pleasant and made some great drinks. The rest of the servers were on their phone by the bar and rolling their eyes like you are bothering them. For basically close to a $150 meal, including automatic gratuity, I was very unimpressed with the food and service. They give me Applebee's food quality. They have music playing, so you'll get good vibes with the music to distract you from the food. The drinks are good. I called them to get the refund of the dessert resolved, but they don't answer their phone at all. First of all my wait was 30+ minutes and that was a bit excessive seeing as how it was only myself and one other couple there. The lamb chops were tiny and burnt. There was literally 1 piece of asparagus in my box, the potatoes were nasty no seasoning at all (same with the asparagus). Whatever this glaze is is also disgusting.
