Still a solid choice and one of my favorites in Richmond. Got lunch with my mom and sister and picked a good day to eat outside. Bees and bugs were a little annoying but comes with the territory. Some fans on patio might help with that though. We ordered the chicken Cobb salad, the fish and chips and the ahi tuna plantain tostada. My mom loved her Cobb salad and my sister loved the fish and chips. I liked my order of tuna plantain tostadas for the flavor and creativity but the tuna wasn't the best cut because it had a lot of ligament in it which made it less appetizing unfortunately. Service was fast and friendly and it is handicap accessible for both inside and outside which was helpful for my mom but the chairs outside need some cushions. My two friends and I got three different lunch dishes and one appetizer. Every dish was extremely over salted Salt is supposed to enhance the flavor not be the flavor. The fried chicken breast in my cobb salad was fried for too long to the point of being blackened. The ranch dressing was so salty I didn't put any on my salad. The chicken, blue cheese and bacon were salty enough without the dressing. Very disappointing since previous lunches were always excellent. We shared a large slice of pineapple-coconut cheesecake that looked delicious but with each bite we got a really odd after taste. I've eaten more cheesecake in my life which I hate to admit but the odd taste was nothing I ever experienced with any cheesecake. Couldn't quite put my finger on it but if I had to describe it, I'd say it was like meat that was expired. Very strange indeed. Just hope I don't get sick. We decided to come to Hobnob for brunch and had been here before, so we were excited since my brother was visiting from abroad and was craving southern food. The staff was kind enough to seat us earlier than our original reservation, which was a really nice touch and much appreciated. I was also happy to see a decent number of gluten-free options. While the main dishes are a bit limited, most of the sides are gluten-free. Now for the food, the crispy chicken sandwich was the highlight of the meal. The Smashburger was also delicious. I ordered the rockfish without the bun, while my dad had it with the bun, and both were great. The beet salad was fresh and flavorful, and the fries were solid. The mac & cheese, unfortunately, was not good at all. On the plus side, the hot cider was delicious. Desserts were a bit of a mixed thoughts. The bread pudding was definitely the best one we tried and really enjoyable. However, the chocolate peanut butter pie was a big disappointment. It was extremely hard and cold (not pie texture), the peanut butter wasn't creamy at all, and it honestly tasted more like a protein bar loaded with sugar. The crust also tasted like it had been sitting in the fridge for a while--disappointing. Such a cute spot -- I absolutely loved it! The ambiance is perfect, cozy, and inviting. It's a great brunch location -- not overly crowded, but lively enough to have a good vibe. I had brunch with some friends on a leisurely Sunday, and each of the guests remarked on the quality of the food, beautiful decor and friendly service. The interior features clean and modest decor with some pretty plant art on the walls. I liked the comfortable setting, well-lit with natural light. I ordered the corned beef hash, which came with freshly-made beef cubes that were juicy, tender, and well-flavored; not canned! I'm struggling with a rating for this place. 3.5 seems more accurate. Place is cute and has quirky decorations. Fine is the word that comes to mind and stays there when I think about the experience. We started off with the cinnamon rolls because A I love those and B there was a sign... kinda disappointed with them. They were mostly fine, plenty of icing which I appreciate. One was incredibly hard so we didn't eat that one at all. Nothing special there. Mimosa portion seemed a little small but no biggie. Chicken and waffles were fine. I like my waffles a bit sweeter personally. They remind me of chicken and waffles from social 52 just not as good. Eggs Benedict was fine according to my husband. What a nice evening at Hobnob! I organize a monthly dinner group and our October visit was to Hobnob. It proved to be a very popular choice. There were 12 of us for dinner. Staff was terrific and took great care of everyone. The shrimp and grits proved to be the most poplar dish at the table. We were also amazed at the portion size of the trout. I was in a mood to graze so I had the fried oysters (great!) and the prosciutto/fig jam flatbread pizza, which was a really amazing combination of flavors, especially with the peppery arugula. Tiny little out of the way place, this is so cute. Small parking lot admittedly, but with inside, outside, and bar. We chose seating at the bar and the bartender was great. My friend was a bit confusing explaining her separation requires as far as the to go order, her gluten allergy, and how she wanted everything separated for the trip, but the bartender was great about it. I got the spinach omelet and she got the breakfast meal without the biscuit. I didn't get the potatoes that came with it but she mentioned how good they were so I tried them. (I don't normally like potatoes for breakfast, it's nothing against any restaurant.) The potatoes were really good, the sauce on them was delish. My omelet was amazing! I couldn't finish it all, so it went home with my friend for her chickens. She really enjoyed her bacon and eggs, and her fiance will hopefully enjoy his chicken and waffles! read more

I visited Hobnob one Sunday morning and was seated immediately outside despite waiting on my friend. It was a nice day so this was a good spot. When my friend arrived, the waitress came and gave us menus and waters. We ordered pretty quickly - homemade cinnamons roll to start and breakfast platters with bacon for both of us. The cinnamon roll was solid. The icing was made of cream cheese and while it felt like too much, it went well with the bread. I didn't enjoy my breakfast platter. The potatoes were tossed in what I assume was aioli and I wasn't a fan. The first cup of fruit had a piece of hair. The waitress quickly returned with a new bowl but I was already icked. The bacon tasted over cooked. The biscuit was soft and over medium egg was cooked perfectly so I made a sandwich and used their jam. I don't remember what flavor but it wasn't grape. Anyway, I let my friend finish eating and (forcing herself to) drink her cocktail and I got the check. After taking my card, my friend found a long piece of hair in her cup. At this point I was beyond annoyed so I wanted my card to go. When the waitress returned, I informed her of the second piece of hair. She looked mortified and took the bill back. I believe our original total was $55 but we ended up paying $35. I appreciated the discount but it probably should've been free. It didn't make me feel better when the host came over and said "this happens every few weeks but it's weird it happened to you twice". I likely won't be back but understand why people like the food and price. read more

Went with a friend for a birthday brunch and our server was unwelcoming from the start and just slow throughout our meal. But that's not why you brunch, right? Let's talk about the food. It's disappointing that menu items are often unavailable so it can feel like you're settling if you come hoping for a certain dish. The cinnamon rolls were out, so I ordered waffles, which arrived burned and tasted charred. My friend's Eggs Benedict was served lukewarm with the hollandaise gelled as if it had sat out for a bit. Beyond that, our seating was less than ideal. We had a reservation and were placed at a small middle table with another couple less than an arm's length away. That could've been manageable, but servers constantly brushed past us throughout our meal which was uncomfortable and totally ruined the experience. Salmon carrot salad - I thought it would be more like a traditional salad but didn't realize the salmon would be on a bed of carrots. The carrots were good but I just wanted more leafy greens. Great spot for lunch. I dined here on a Saturday for lunch with my LS and nephew. The parking lot is next to the restaurant and it was packed when I arrived so I had to park on the street which a lot of people did. I will say the restaurant was busy and some people had reservations; we and other parties were walked in and sat almost immediately. The outdoor patio was perfect for the weather and we were lucky to be in the covered patio. Our server Brian was helpful, attentive, and patient with our questions and our little one. Everyone's food that I saw looked delicious and hearty. We ordered the shrimp fried green tomatoes and lamb meatballs to start. The shrimp fried green tomatoes were so flavorful and the tomatoes held their crunch and texture. My only complaint is that the dish was just a tad salty but I think I that may have been due to the blackened seasoning and the sauce (remoulade I believe) on the slaw/lettuce. The lamb meatballs and beet tzatziki were perfect and honestly both apps could be entrees. I had the Cobb salad and subbed for grilled chicken and removed the tomatoes & blue cheese; it was a great portion I just wish it came in a bowl or on a salad plate. I have been wanting to try Hobnob for a while. I pass it almost daily and it is always full. Today I was finally able to visit and it did not disappoint. Hobnob is a small quaint restaurant in the center of a residential neighborhood. It has ample parking and outdoor seating with no cover and covered. I door seating is quite intimate. It has a full bar and an inviting ambiance. Although we didn't have a reservation we were greeted and seated promptly. Our server Brian was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Very attentive the entire visit. The food was so flavorful and the cranberry mimosas hit the spot. We had the pimento smash burger and they were finger licking good! We were able to get a seat without a reservation, but were told there was a reservation starting at 10:20am at our table. It's a cozy spot that seems to be located in a residential neighborhood. We went for my pre-birthday dinner last evening and it was really great. I think there are a lot of great choices on this menu. If I had to give one side comment for an area that I would personally like improvement is simply the crabcakes. They were very good, but I'm used to Maryland crabcakes that have virtually no filler in them. These crabcakes did have a significant amount of filler in them, but still very tasty. The Keylime pie was just out of this world. I thought that I was sitting in Florida having it. The ambiance is also great. So nice on the patio. Service was great! Hobnob is a well kept secret, tucked away in a Lakeside neighborhood in Richmond, VA. There is a beautiful mural on the wall outside, lots of covered outdoor seating, a cozy bar, and smartly situated indoor seating. The service is exceptional. Ruth was so friendly and answered all of my questions about the menu offerings, history of the restaurant, and the seasonal menu schedule. I had chicken piccata with a glass of Chardonnay and the lemon basil panna cotta for dessert. Beautifully plated, delicious, and ample portion sizes. We arrived at 11 AM and the hostess initially said it would be an hour wait for 4 people, but I guess a table cleared up because we were seated in 5-10 minutes. But the dish came with brunch potatoes, which I instantly devoured, however I wished it was more crispy. Everything came out efficiently.
