Today there were only 2 people working and they were chatting with a non-employee every time I went up to ask a question about a coupon. I gave up and got in line to check out. One employee was checking out another person and the second employee told me to use a self-checkout. I was really hoping a new store would be better. Maybe I got there at a bad time? 4:15 on a Monday. Using the coupon just wasn't worth it unfortunately.

But I didn't have to wander much because two well-informed customer service reps were able to direct me. I was looking for fabric to cover my dining room chairs (small DIY project). I described the color and texture of the fabric I was envisioning, and was led exactly to the right bolts of cloth to choose from. One woman worked the downstairs and the other upstairs. I got just what I wanted, quickly. A much better experience than the chain stores for fabric which are quick but without the rich variety of choices found here. Downfall is simply that Waynesville is likely a bit out of the way for many. But plan ahead and make a day of it by visiting the many antique and decor shops in town. Since it was a 40 minute drive for me, I did call ahead to make sure they were open (I'm learning, post pandemic, not to trust what's shown on websites).

The owner, Dawn (a charming and hospitable lady who told me exactly where to find everything I asked about) explained that they didn't care to do so, and the store has been Fourman's Variety for quite some time. And variety is what you will find in this very large and thoughtfully arranged shop. Everything from spices and kitchenware, puzzles and games for all ages, school supplies and stationery, to greeting cards, gift wrap, housewares, pool supplies, pet needs, seasonal decor, giftable items, and a full aisle of candy with many nostalgic classics. PLUS a whole room of fabrics and sewing accessories, and a wall or two of crafting supplies. And....tons of used books for sale! Prices were quite reasonable throughout. Store is open six days a week, parking on the street. I am thrilled to have found this great variety store. Honestly, do you really want to spend your money at Dollar General or Walmart? No, of course not! You want to come to Fourman's. Come to Fourman's!
