Having moved from Maryland in late 2023 my concern was finding a reliable and efficient local service station. I visited Bott's Service Center in Port Washington in April 2024 for my first New York State Inspection. [[HIGHLIGHT]]A few days ago my check engine light went on darkening my day. Fearing a breakdown I sought an earliest appointment from the local VW dealer. Alas, none was available until three days later and I faced being without our sole vehicle for several days, or more.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I then phoned and the eponymous Craig Bott answered. He suggested that I bring my VW Jetta over immediately and they'd look at it, which they did.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] He did a diagnostic check, turning off the check engine light, and recommended that I return the next day for my appointed Inspection renewal. I love these people. I have used them for years. WARNING ONLY USE BOTT'S for simple general car repairs and maintenance... Breaks, Oil Changes, other fluid changes, maybe tires... But... NEVER...DO NOT USE BOTT'S for any kind of catastrophic car failure or even general to serious car repairs. They are totally not skilled or capable of handling the diagnostics of a serious problem or it's major repair. Going to Bott's as my first move, at the calming assurances if its owner, having my car towed there, ended up costing me $1500.00 more than if I had just gone to any other shop anywhere whIch had actual real repair skills. My mistake in trusting my neighborhood Bott's service station is all my own fault, I accept that part. But I hope I can save someone else. 1) they couldn't diagnose the problem at all, or didn't want to deal with it and could offer no advice except "come tow your car elsewhere asap please". 2) the problem was obvious and catastrophic and a high school car shop class would have easily discovered it within an hour 3) I have 2 full warantee's and other insurance coverage that could easily have paid 100% at Bott's for an immediate repair. [[HIGHLIGHT]]4) with intent Bott's at first encouraged my patronage and when it looked like too much to handle gave me no diagnosis whatsoever, no help, no repair and a sassy, arrogant and rude demeanor overall.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]the owner seemed bothered by me and didn't answer my call or talk to me when I saw him at the shop "just get the car out if here" was his only advice to me.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] BOTT'S made a bad situation 100x worse for me unnecessarily. my car was successfully fixed elsewhere. but Bott's made the whole experience worse and cost me a lot more money having consulted with them. [[HIGHLIGHT]]they are nice when the job is super simple.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] but their prices are on the high side. their gas prices are the highest on Long Island. $3.79 a gallon when I pay in new hyde park $3.09? 70 cents more a gallon? come on. read more

Criag Botts service station is one to RUN FROM rather than avoid. They treat their customers like garbage and take part in to my knowledge, unlawful business practices. My first experience with botts was arriving first thing in the morning to have my transmission and filter done. I waited for 6 hours while he took other customers, one after the other whom came after me. I left and did the job myself. I decided to give this shop another try. I went to have my timing belt done and was first to arrive in the morning. I patiently waited while he took other customers, one after the other. After about 3 hours, im told, we got swamped, real busy and cant do the job for you. Keep in mind, i didnt negotiate or haggle on the price but suspiciously, ***** i did write down on the work order the estimate ( since craig didnt ) and requested the old parts back that were replaced. ****** I came back to speak with Craig to let him know i am coming on Friday and met up with his worker whom i dont know his name but hes very slender with large ears. I told him i had the remote starter assembly removed but it didnt fix the problem. However, i said, i personally changed the starter to a Bosch and have had no issues. His worker erupted YOU CHANGED THE STARTER 4 TIMES ALREADY ! YOU DONT REMEMBER !!!!! I said, i just told you, its fixed ! What are you talking about ? I came back one more time to have my timing belt done and Craig tells me, you CAN'T HANG AROUND HERE AND WAIT FOR YOUR CAR.... so lets recap this. craig doesnt provide written estimates, doesnt allow customers to wait for their car ( they have to leave ) and no agreement from craig to provide your old parts either. Update- I did in fact find a problem right when I got my car back from this place. I cant say definitively they broke the part, but there was no noise before I brought it in. I did a lot of research on service shops in Port Washington afterwards and know how to do that and found several that I now know are competent and trustworthy and every time I mentioned Botts to vehicle owners and mechanics, most people just rolled their eyes or laughed. I also btw heard very negative comments about the Shell station next to Target and MB Port Auto Care. When you look at the comments on Google and Yelp for those places, too, most of the comments are positive. So just do your due diligence, talk to as many people as you can, use your powers of discernment, don't dismiss the red flags and eventually you'll find someone you KNOW is good. read more

I am 71 years old and a retired heavy duty mechanic with many certs and started working on my first car when I was 14. Yes, 14. I am now not able to move well and started with Botts 2 years ago for basic repairs on my wife's car with many minor issues that I thought were normal. Idiot. Just realized that he knew I had a formal mechanical background and he couldn't rip me like his normal customer base. My opinion is that the positive reviews are from people that trust his smiles and agreement to all things as I was until I realized it was a scam to rip me and my Carshield insurance. Just check the negative reviews and most important to my understanding is that every time a dissatisfied customer took their vehicle to a dealership or independent service center Botts diagnosis was always incorrect. Just try them your self and when you get screwed please let me know cause it will happen but you may not even realize. read more

I have been taking all my vehicles to the Bott brothers since they started doing business in 1988. They will always contact you before they begin any repairs that you did not know were needed and will quote you a price over the phone that is the price you will pay, no surprises. Their prices are probably higher than you you could find elsewhere (much less than a dealer) but you get piece of mind at Botts that they actually stand by their work. It's hard to believe Botts is still in business. I brought my car in for an inspection. Craig calls me with a list of things that needs to be fixed. One of it was the left boot was cracked and needed to be fixed because once it starts leaking it gets expensive to fix. Since we don't drive the car that often we decided to hold off on fixing it. I figured let me get a second opinion. I brought it in to another "more trustworthy and honest" mechanic and he checked the boot and said that "both boot" are leaking and looks like fresh grease since it wasn't dirty. Well you guessed it Botts cut the grease line now it's costing me hundreds more to fix! What a spiteful thing to do. This is not the first time they broke something in our cars. They stripped the nut in the oil pan and Honda in Manhasset couldn't change our oil. They had to install a whole new oil pan which cost us hundred again. Another time we told them we were going on a ski trip and wanted to make sure the car was in good driving condition. Guess what, the day before we are supposed to leave they said our tire rod was cracked and needed to be fixed and 'conveniently' they had the part in stock. We had no choice but to fix it after they told us we can lose control of the car while driving. Botts is a scammer and looking to rip you off. If your looking for convenience and don't care what it cost to get your car fixed then you don't have a problem. If you don't fix your car with them then expect more problems and headaches. Every time I get the bill when something is done its always double what I thought it would be and tell myself I am not going there again. Time goes by and I forget and go again, plus I am not a mechanic so maybe what I think and see on forums online aren't correct when it comes to how many hours it takes do something. What these brothers have done after Hurricane Sandy, will finally make me remember not to go there again. Now Bott's isn't cheap with their gas, but I drive by almost everyday and the day before the storm the price on the sign was $4.059 for regular (BP up on Port blvd was $3.899 for regular at the same time). When Bott's finally got power, they had lines 3 to 4 blocks long.....price now $4.259 for regular and that is their cash price (who pays in cash any more) so the real price is $4.359 for regular. They had that same price the whole time until they ran out of oil. Now that the lines aren't there... to my surprise (sarcasm) they are at $3.999 for regular (cash price). Now they may try to say there was added cost to get the product there....well I work in the fuel industry and there was no added cost at that time from the distributors and gasoline futures didn't go up significantly to justify that increase...... to boot BP up on Port Blvd at the same time there were lines had the same price of $3.899 for regular (credit or cash) that they had before the storm. Another example is Harbor Deli, brought in a generator to have power (so they did have added cost to their bottom line), lines out the door.....prices never changed! They could have done the same as Bott's but didn't.... a lot smarter business decision in my opinion. I see it as Bott's being opportunist..... who does that to their neighbors/customers and expect their business after all this is over.....sad thing is most people forget (just like I did)....and some people don't care or even noticed. If they can do this during a time their neighbor/customers where dealing with hardships what are they doing to their customers when times are normal? read more

I have no idea what these other people are talking about , but,the brothers and the mechanics at Botts have been working on every car that I have had since me return to single life and my room mates car as well! Being a single woman is not easy... Being a single woman with a messed up car ... Even worse They always call me before they do anything and they have never ever overcharged me .. How do I know ? Because I have already had estimates from other Shops and they have been the cheapest, the quickest and the most efficient!!! I would recommend them to everyone I know AND I will say ...
