They did mention if they can't finish I won't be able to get the car back until Monday. Since that day was a Sunday. I've been coming back every time when I have an issue to them. I arrived at 8:00 AM and was done by 8:10 AM, without an advanced appointment, no less. As always, Jimmy was funny as always (prepare for his sarcasm), honest, and professional in is workmanship. A few years back, after a visit to my Honda dealership service center, and two Sears Auto centers, to address a subtile noise that appeared to be coming from one of the wheels of my still-under-warranty car, I was referred to HPTL. Jimmy's crew found the issue after leaving the car for the day. He could have said "hey you need a new Johnson Rod" and charged me a multiple of what he actually did, but instead he told me a screw was loose and charged appropriately. My thought at that moment was he is trustworthy and very competent.... and the folks at Hillside Honda and Sears Auto were somewhat incompetent for missing something seemingly so trivial. Since that moment I have utilized his auto shop for various services including minor auto repair, body work, and today, an inspection. HLPTL will continue to be the the first service center I think of, even over my car dealership's service center.

He noted that they were friendly and honest. He was correct. The first time I went, it was shortly after working with the dealer---I was hearing a strange sound and had just paid the dealer an exorbitant amount of money for repairs on my brakes (which I had been noting for several visits and the dealer and they kept saying nothing was wrong until it got so bad that it became an expensive job). I brought my car to Douglaston Auto Care and the sound was coming from my positioning of the rubber mat on the floor against the brake and gas. Another mechanic would have seen that as opportunity to take advantage. Not at Douglaston---they are honorable. They told me the truth. I have been going there ever since and will never return to my dealer. They are always truthful and explain in detail what has to be done. Their work is also impeccable. I give them my highest recommendation.

I have had to leave my cars there for a few days while they were being serviced and he always gives me updates. He even calls my husband to fill him in as well! The most recent time my car was serviced I was quoted $3000 (brakes, rotors, air hose, etc) on LI and Jason did the same work for MUCH less than that. He even showed me the parts that he replaced to assure me that he wasn't running game. He even found another hose that needed to be replaced that the last mechanic didn't mention to me and replaced it for free. Jason and his crew now service all my vehicles and my dad's. Between us we have a Corolla, Camry, BMW X5 & Dodge Durango and they do it all. If you don't live in Queens it's definitely worth the trip or phone call!

I also realize now that when it failed, Dino should have admitted he broke the line because the system would have lost pressure and the pedal would have gone down to the floor. Instead he gave the car back to me with unsafe brakes. This could have lead to a dangerous situation. On another occasion, I had issue with the front end. There was a noise coming from the right front end. The mechanic gave me a cryptic message like nothing was wrong, but in the end, Dino told me I needed an end link. Not only did were the end links just 1 year earlier, they replaced the one on the left side. The noise was coming from the right. Go figure. John, the other boss, once snapped back at me because I simply asked if he would nstall my own part. He had a nasty look on his face. Not good customer relations. On another occasion, a customer was there because her CRV had a stripped oil drain plug. She always had her oil changed by them so the logical conclusion was one of their mechanics must have used a power tool on the plug which stripped the threads on the oil pan. This would be an expensive repair.

This year, they said I needed two new tires again in addition to a $500 brake fix. Everything would have cost approximately $1,000 so I just left. Today, I went to another repair shop where I paid $37 and passed my inspection. The other shop didn't notice any tire or brake problems. I drive about 4,000 miles a year locally. I never have any warning lights, engine check lights, or any other issues with my car. Beware if you go here and they tell you this and that needs to be replaced. Get a second opinion before you spend hundreds of dollars.
