I came in twice with multiple symptoms and both times I was told it was "just a sore throat" and…read moresent home. I honestly started to feel like I was being dramatic or imagining how bad I felt. They even told me to come back in three days if things didn't improve... so when a week later I came back feeling even worse, I thought I'd finally be taken seriously. Instead, I was dismissed again with no medication. The very next day I went to another urgent care and found out I had influenza. So no, it wasn't just my throat being a little overdramatic -- it was my entire immune system fighting for its life. I won't be coming back, but I do hope future patients are taken more seriously the first time.

If I could give Okemos Urgent Care zero stars, I would. I called ahead before coming in,…read morespecifically asking if they were busy, and was told it wouldn't be a long wait. That was an outright lie. I sat there, in excruciating pain from a scratched cornea, for over an hour and a half, barely able to keep my eye open. And just when I thought my turn was finally coming, I was bumped back further because a mother with a vomiting baby took priority. I understand triage, but at that point, I had already waited longer than anyone should in an urgent care setting. To make matters worse, when I tried to cancel my appointment and leave, I could not get the attention of a single staff member. I waved, I stood up, I even tried calling from inside the waiting room--nothing. Their complete lack of communication and concern for their patients is appalling. This place is an absolute joke. If you actually need urgent care, go literally anywhere else. I wouldn't wish this experience on anyone.

(No, it does not.) My next clue should have been that even though the radiologists always deemed my test results as normal, she always wanted more tests and encouraged me to cancel my appointment with my gastroenterologist, who agreed with the radiologists. She talked me into having a procedure, which I was very nervous about, but my fears were dismissed and ignored. Right before my procedure--being rolled wide awake into a tiny operating room crammed with instruments and tons of students--I decided I there was no way I could go through with it, but they conked me out and did it anyway! Despite saying, "I can't do this, I can't do this, I need to get out of here" over and over, they did it anyway. When I woke up, I felt completely violated. I called the hospital and made complaints, but got a form letter back saying that my procedure had been "adequately explained" and that I had signed a consent form. Consent is always revocable, people!

Last year I went septic with a dental infection and was in the ICU for four days. I spent a total of 16 days in the hospital. The pain is causing me to lose sleep, which feels like mania. I have bipolar disorder. If I have an extended session of mania, it leads to psychosis. I see a paychiatrist regularly and I actually saw her in the morning, but there is a paperwork issue and the meds she requested for me will not be filled to Tuesday. I know the ER is not a dentist or my psychiatrist, but I felt like I was in crisis so I went. I was hoping for antibiotics for the dental infection and maybe a bridge prescription of a couple of my psyxh meds to get me through until Tuesday. Instead I was summarily dismissed by Dr. Chad Kovala. "I'm not a dentist and your psychiatrist is treating you. I can't help you." It didn't matter that I went septic last year from the same issue. Apparently my inpatient psych history doesn't matter either. I was so distraught by his dismissal of me that I called the suicide helpline when I got to my car. I have the screenshot. I was on the phone with them for 30 minutes before I felt safe to drive home. I have never before been dismissed with such a smug and superior attitude. Yes, I know a dentist is the ultimate solution for my tooth issue and a psychiatrist needs to do long-term med adjustments but I was in CRISIS. My teeth are IN MY MOUTH AND THEY AFFECT MY HEALTH. I am terrified of ever utilizing your ER again. Hospitals are supposed to care for sick people. Period. You didn't. Do better.
