I was hosting a Winter Reds Wine Tasting party for about 25 people, so I needed red wines from around the world. A friend and I teamed up to purchase the wine, but, I'll admit, got distracted by the Vodka seltzer promo set up in store. After a few samples, we weren't quite sure what we were doing so we asked for help. Zach to the rescue! We told him what our plan for the wine tasting party was and asked for help selecting international red wines. Zach was over the top accommodating and hooked us up! We selected an Argentinian Malbec, Italian Sangiovese, California Cab, South African Syrah, and a French Bordeaux. Zach carried our haul to our car and was super friendly and helpful. I must say, the wine tasting party was a hit! Complete with James Suckling wine ratings and delicious charcuterrie boards, the party was fire. The fan favorite? A little-known Western Cape South African Syrah called Essay. We wouldn't have found this hidden gem had it not been for Zach's keen eye in helping us pick international reds. Two days every spring and fall, Cranbrook liquors turns into a adult beverage carnival. All items in the store are $1 over cost which equals a 30% discount on average from retail. They also bring in vendors and reps for tastings with 30-40 wines and spirits to try and buy. Dollar Days?! Who can't love this place! Dollar Days are the few times a year where most beer, wine, and liquor is sold at a dollar more than cost. It's also cash-only. A few hints on this day: Go the second day. Usually it's less crowded. Also, don't forget a check book or cash and expect to wait in line. Last, don't bring our kids. There are wine and liquor tasting throughout the store and it's fairly crowded with shopping carts. The selection isn't bad. I just wish that the wine was better organized and sections were labeled. read more

I was going to stop in here today to pick up a bottle of Blue Curacao to make my Super Bowl drinks with (because, you just know I have to support my Ravens like that) - I have difficulty pronouncing "Curacao", so I called and inquired if they had it, even spelling the term out for the employee. The response that I got? "What is that, something that goes up the nose?" Uh.... say WHAT? Seriously, I've been in this place before, and they carry EVERYTHING - so they should know damned well what I'm talking about. I wanted to make sure that they had it before I drove all the way up to Cockeysville to pick it up (especially on the day before Super Bowl Sunday). Good thing that I don't have to bother, because I'm no longer coming here for my liquor purchases. Really, that response was 100% unprofessional - I'm looking for help, not wisecracks or being treated like an idiot. I actually felt like I was being a bother even for asking the question. I went here to get the alcohol for my daughter's wedding. For me walking in there, seeing all the options & knowing very little about what to select was overwhelming. Within minutes I was asked if I needed help. Mike went over my list and we went through the store and got everything I needed. The absolute best customer service I've seen in a very long time. This place is great! I almost had the giddy sensation that I feel when entering my own personal Disneyland (aka: BevMo, but I don't think this place exists on the east coast). They have a GREAT wine selection at relatively reasonable prices. (note: if you are from CA, NO premium wine prices are reasonable in Maryland. It's all actually robbery, but if you are *not* from CA, read on.) The liquor selection is also great -they carry pretty much everything and all different size bottles. I've heard that they do these things called "dollar days" - where they charge $1 above cost. Apparently, the poor alcohol starved citizens of MD stand in a line that wraps around the parking lot and it takes at least two hours to buy your get-your-drink-on goods. If you are buying an entire case of something, you can order online and just pick it up. Otherwise, you have to stand in the long thankless line and wait for a cart before you can enter the store. I think I'm going to barrow my neighbor's stroller and fill it up, so I can skip the line. I'll report back if this tactic is a success! read more

Ive been to this location twice for dollar days and I must say I'm impressed. Each time I came the store was well stocked and had a range of different vendors for wine tasting. Im a big fan of dollar dollars and will continue to come back. Not only are the prices great but the staff is friendly and always willing to help you find that particular bottle your in search of. The only thing I would suggest is more carts. Man if your not there at the right time you could forget about getting a cart. Unless you stalk the people in line and take there cart once they pay. (LOL) But that just goes to show how popular this location and dollar days is. read more

Just don't go there if you're African American. Patronize people who will actually treat you like a human. These young Caucasian staff followed my boyfriend around the store. It's ridiculous that in 2019 such ignorance exists from our own millennials. Then he had the nerve to try to help us afterward and made everything awkward. In life, it is very important to treat others accordingly. It's so frustrating that we have to encounter people like this. I suggest you open up a store in a neighborhood with only Caucasians and stop taking our money if you hate us so much. At the end of this life everyone will see that nobody is better than the other. We don't need to steal liquor. The cashier looked 13 herself and had the audacity to treat us like our IDs were fake . If they're not careful, someone will sue them for discrimination. read more

Very disappointed with my experience, ended up walking out without anything. My mother, sister, and I all went to get beer for Thanksgiving and when we got to the counter we were asked for the whole groups ID. My sister forgot her ID so this is where the issue arose. We know that the MD law is that you must present ID and since my sister forgot her ID we asked if she were able to wait outside while we purchase the alcohol. He said no. He said the issue was that she was helping us carry the alcohol and she put it on the counter implying it was hers. We responded that we needed her to help us carry all of the beer. To which he condescendingly said we should have gotten a cart. We didn't even see carts in the store as they were not presented by the front door, and it's not that big of a deal to just carry a few boxes of beer. We asked if we could come back later that night, and were told we would still be refused service. The worst part is that the people before us in line served by another person were not ID'd. Overall the person who gave us service was condescending and rude. My family will not be returning any time soon. read more

Apparently, out of state patrons are not welcome unless your state supports flipping the license horizontally at 21. I recently relocated from a state that does not flip until it naturally expires at 25 and I was refused service a few days ago as a 23 yr old. Additionally, they told me it was their policy except my SO was just there 2 days before with an ID from the same state. They sold to him but he was harassed about our home state's laws. The employee refused to even scan my ID to determine if it was valid. read more

I used to love Cranbrook Liquors and have shopped there consistently for the past 4 years. They had a power outage today and were letting customers enter the store one at a time to shop, escorted by an employee. So I waited by the door for my turn. I was the only person there and was speaking with the gentleman letting customers in the door. Another customer rushed up to the door and said "excuse me" to the man guarding the entrance. The man guarding the entrance explained the situation to the customer. So we were both waiting at this time. When the next employee escort was available, the man let the other customer, who just walked up to the door, in the store ahead of me!!! I am not sure that he understood that I was planning to purchase a significant amount of product (and paying cash), since I am hosting 2 large parties this week; however, I decided to walk alway and take my business elsewhere. read more
