Believe the negative reviews on the staff, they're elitist and unhelpful. Mocked my SO for asking when a beer would be back in stock, wouldn't offer to keep it in stock for him or special order it. They don't even know what they do or don't carry in the wine section or if you're looking for something specific they don't know. Just go to Hunt Valley Liquors, or go to Total Wine on Loch Raven if you're looking for something rare, at least they'll special order it for you. The Pro is they have a nice selection, but with so many other places to spend your money, why go to a place to be treated like you're bothering them? read more

Happened to be in this area twice in last 3 months and heard good things about their beer selection, so decided to check it out. Well, the pros are that they have a good selection of beers, albeit a bit pricey (e.g $4-5 for some single dogfish head bottles). However, if you buy enough of these, you might as well take that money and drive to Dogfish Head in DE from here, spend a night, and go get their brewed fresh selections from their actual brewery which are awesome. But, I digress... The big con here? Customer service on both occasions were non existent. And I even gave chances by smiling and saying hi to three people as I strolled but no one asked if I needed help or had questions. So, that concludes me going there when in the area which thankfully, isn't that often. read more

I called Shawan Liquors from California to purchase gifts for my son's birthday who lives in Sparks Maryland. My Son told me he frequents there as they have a wonderful selection of wine and liquor. The employee that answered the phone was very gracious knew who my son was because of his Star Wars conversations and immediately was able to make recommendations that she knew he would like. I purchased beer and a wine she knew he liked. When I told her it was for his birthday, she made a ribbon out of paper and gave it a celebratory look. The wine she put in the wine bag with a little card that said from mom. She was awesome! She called him and told him she had an order in for him. He had an ordered anything and was a little confused, but did go by to pick up his gifts. great customer service, professional and knowledgeable about wines, and certainly a great place to get good service and good products. These guys definitely know what they're doing! If you are a fan of whiskey and/or wine, this is the place to go to get it. They have one of the more diverse selections in the area when it comes to whiskey. From time to time, they will have liquor tastings in the store (from what I've noticed it's mostly been on the weekends). It's clean, friendly, and full of variety. I am giving 1 star because they tend to have friendly people working behind the counter. Matt, the owner, is usually pleasant as well. That is where service ends. I have witnessed and now experienced staff being rude and even yelling at customers, usually for touching the displays to find beer because they don't keep them stocked. This store isn't the end all be all of beer stores. It might barely squeak into the top 10 for the Baltimore area. There are other choices that make me feel welcome. I used to go into this store 5-6 times a month. I don't believe I will be back. I am genuinely in an elevated state of anger over the interaction I had today with their stockboy. More angry because all I did was apologize to him after his rude and demeaning reaction, set down the beer I was going to buy and walked out. I should have made a big deal about it. Congratulations Drink, Cranbrook, total wine and Pinehurst. Shit, even the hunt valley town center place is more welcoming and now will get my business. read more

It seems like there are only a handful of people who work here, regularly, so they always recognize you (or if they don't, they act like it, which is fine with me). They are very nice and always helpful. The place is big enough that you won't feel like you need to rush around, or get out of everyone's way. It's big, and very well stocked, so I guess they just have a nice set up where everything is accessible and you can take your time if you need to! read more

I literally found this place by accident a couple of months ago and have been going here ever since. An inviting atmosphere, friendly employees and well stocked store make this one of my few select stores for beer on the way home. Usually when I stop by a liquor store, I rush in, grab what I want, then dash out. However, this is the type of place that you will find enjoyable to browse for a bit and check out the vast selection. A very impressive selection of craft, micros and imports for almost every taste. I rarely drink wine or hard liquor, but they seem to have an amazing selection of those as well. read more

The selection might be great, but the customer service leaves something to be desired! Fifteen minutes before the scheduled closing time, I called the store to let them know I was just about fifteen minutes away, and to ask if they would wait to close the store until I got there. The man on the phone assured me he would wait until I arrived. I arrived right at closing time, and the doors were locked. When I knocked on the door, the man came to the door and refused to open it. I wish he would have just told me that on the phone, instead of misleading me that he would keep the store open. I wasted time and gas, where as I could have just gone to another store. read more
