The coconut palms had been delivered and planted by a different company less than a year ago. They were on danger of falling because the other company hadn't dug a deep enough hole. It was going to be a difficult job because the trees that needed to removed were over 20 ft tall and they needed to avoid disturbing our fence, the paver driveway and the Asiatic jasmine. No one could promise that. I was very discouraged and began to believe I would need to accept that I would be out at least $2,000.00 in damage. Then David from Aldo's called me. He assured me that they could replace the palms without damaging any of my property. David was so personable and knowledgeable that I trusted him immediately. Aldo and David arrived on time and went directly to work. I would be lying if I said I wasn't expecting at least a small amount of damage. I was actually afraid to look! Once the job was complete I went out to inspect their work. I was actually stunned! The pavers, jasmine and fence were EXACTLY as it had been prior to their arrival. The trees were perfectly spaced and they didn't leave a mess. Prior to to leaving they explained care of the trees. They are a rarity in their industry. Nearly everyone will over promise and under deliver. They under promised and over deliver. If you're searching for a lawn or landscaping service, I can't give a higher recommendation than Aldo's! He was definitely more personable than the rest of the people I got quotes from and took the time to answer all my questions. We ended up going with him since he seemed trustworthy and was mid-range priced--not the cheapest but not the most expensive. Everything seemed to be going well until 2 days after starting the job he called us to ask for more money since there was more on the roof than he anticipated--even though he actually went out for an in person quote and probably should have been more thorough. At that point with the job 2/3 done, what are we supposed to say? No? After agreeing to the increased charge, he finished Friday as promised and sent pictures prior to getting paid. At this point I would have still felt like he deserved 5 stars because there was a lot of clean up and the pictures looked really great compared to how it was before. Unfortunately, shortly after mud water was backing up into the sinks and when they went to go check the cap was off the main sewer line with leaves all blown in. We contacted Jamie the following Monday who, of course, stated that it wasn't his fault. To his credit he offered to come take a look at it but then stopped responding. We had to get a plumber out to fix it who said the cap came off somehow and leaves/dirt was blown into it. Kind of suspicious since he was the last one to do anything around that area. He finally called us back on Wednesday and stated that even if it's not his fault he would pay for half of it. I thought that was reasonable but then 4 days later he decided that he's not paying since it's not his fault. This whole thing has been really annoying to deal with.

He sent the two lightest guys to walk my metal roof. They chopped limb, threw pieces down, chipped and hauled away. Got back up on roof and blew off debris. Crew of seven. Three trucks, a trailer and a chipper came for my job. They fit me in today. Gave estimate on extensive backyard cleanup and will schedule me in two weeks. Very happy with Bam's Tree Service. Chris is polite, considerate, organized, as were his employees. He told me if city didn't come in two weeks, he would return to remove what was left over. Good, local business with fair pricing and nice people who are there to help. My primary ding is on…read morethe quality of the product (topsoil), which has clearly been mixed with some other filler/junk. Not necessarily Larry Larson's fault, but I hope this review helps others know what they're buying. I bought soil for raised garden beds since the native earth is far too sandy to support vegetable garden at my home. Larry Larson's dark brown to black topsoil product looked good at first (i.e. not sandy), but after placing the soil in the beds and watering over time, it became apparent that there is considerable sand and some debris (plastic, glass), and more problematically, shells in the mix. While the debris doesn't bother me so much, the primary problem with actually using the topsoil to grow plants is the high pH which results from the shells. The topsoil tested to have a pH of 8 or more. Unfortunately, good plant growth requires slightly acidic conditions (less than 7, and ideally between 6.0 to 6.5). And attempting to grow vegetables in this topsoil led to very clear plant chlorosis (inability to absorb nutrients, especially iron and nitrogen) due to the soil's high pH. It's also worth noting that high pH soil problems apply to almost all plants (e.g., sod/grass, trees, shrubs, flowers, vegetables, etc.). Thus, Larry Larson's topsoil will not be good to grow plants with unless the pH can be lowered. After doing further research, free calcium carbonate (shell matter/filler) in the soil mix makes this otherwise good loamy earth very difficult to grow in. Unfortunately, it's not easy to lower the pH of soil like this because of the shell matter, which must be eliminated first by acid, and it will take a cost-prohibitively large amount of acid to first get rid of the free calcium carbonate first before the remaining soil will actually lower to the needed slightly acidic pH. Calcium carbonate essentially acts as a buffer, keeping the soil pH very high. Besides the pH, the moisture retention is good due to high humic content, but still drains well due to the addition of the sand/shell filler. I would strongly suggest that anyone planning on using Larry Larson's topsoil to grow plants to go and test it first to find out what you're buying so that you know beforehand whether the price and subsequent labor are worth it for your intended use of the soil. Lesson learned.
