What does one want in a contractor/handyman? This is what I experienced with Joel: (1) Arrived on time for the initial visit/inspection, on short notice (with his wife and two lovely children). (2) Understood what we were looking for, understood that we had NO IDEA what we really needed, and very professionally walked through the house with us, suggesting improvements with an *amazing* eye for detail. Things like replacing door hinges, changing the grout in tiles, repainting cabinets. (3) Settled on a final work list within a day, with an estimate that was less than half of what the general contractors quoted us for less than half the work. (4) Came with me to home depot, on his own time, and helped me pick out parts for the repair, explaining the process to me in the meantime. He did not charge me for this, even though we spent several hours at Home Depot. (5) Started work on time, the major job being repainting all the cabinets the house. All precautions were taken, including covering the floor and walls. (6) FINISHED WORK ON TIME. On exactly the day he had quoted, he handed the keys back to me and we did the final walkthrough. It came out way, way better than I had expected. (7) BILLED EXACTLY WHAT HE QUOTED. It shouldn't be that hard to do this, but it's rare! I am so happy with Joel's work, and could not write a more glowing review. He's definitely won all my future business.

I spoke with six GCs. Most were cheaper -- roughly $20k less for the kitchen, $10k less for the bathroom. At the time, it looked like savings. It wasn't. Craig A. explained the importance of: * Proper wall blocking for cabinets and hood venting * Replacing old copper hot and cold lines while walls were open * Installing flooring correctly wall-to-wall under cabinets * Pulling permits for inspections and proper workmanship Others focused on cost. Permits weren't necessary, they said. Now that the remodel is "finished," the shortcuts are painfully clear: hood vent vibrations, leaking copper lines, uneven cabinets. To fix it, cabinets, drywall, flooring, and some finishes must be removed and replaced, and some items can't even be reused. The fix is now $43,538 -- far more than the $30k I thought I was saving. Craig wasn't trying to sell me extras. He was protecting my investment. If you meet him, you'll see he's genuine, professional, and honest. I was too focused on the upfront price to appreciate the value of his advice. Lesson learned: a remodel can look beautiful on the surface, but what matters most is what's behind the walls. Cutting corners isn't savings -- it's deferred expense. I'm actually kicking myself because I took everyone off Angie's List and considered only the other lower bids. Craig was a referral from a close friend who told me upfront, "They may be a little more expensive, but you'll be happy in the long run." They were right. I hope others can learn from my experience. When we're ready for our backyard deck, we'll be calling Craig A. and Realty Builders.

Victor (project manager/foreman) has everything in control, day to day, and does not forget a thing.  We interviewed four other contractors, and they couldn't come up with the right floorplan for our kitchen. We did not want to settle.  David designed our kitchen and more than doubled the size.  No problem moving plumbing or switching to gas from electric and finding a better home for our fridge. Our primary bathroom was completely gutted to add a stand-alone tub, and Superb designed a walk-in closet and additional hall closet taking a foot from the adjoining room, which you would never be able to tell. He has a crew for different sets of workmanship, and they know exactly what to do in a strategic time frame. They do not waste any time and clean up the projects beautifully every day.  We had completely gutted our kitchen and primary bathroom. Had the whole house rewired, new plumbing, new LED lights throughout the house, all new flooring on the first floor, and refinished all flooring upstairs.   Superb builders accommodated every wishlist we had.  Their workmanship is precise, clean and the crew are very helpful and pleasant to work with from beginning to end.   Our biggest appreciation is that David and Victor picked up their phones or returned texts right away 100%. They passed every inspection every time, and they have done the work beyond the requirements. We are so happy to know that all the work has been done properly and safely. We will always call Superb builders for all of our future projects.  I trust that they will get the job done right, and David can help design or find a beautiful solution to any difficult home layout you may have.  They do not just remodel a space, they can build a perfect new space. I wouldn't have been able to come up with such a wonderful design without his advices. Additionally, the cabinet vendor he recommended had great prices and they assisted with designing the kitchen layout by providing computer drawn images using software. This saved a lot of time in the planning stage. Joe was our primary point of contact from start to finish, which made things go smoothly. During project execution, Victor was an invaluable point of contact for discussing and explaining technical details about our options, especially when inevitable complications arose. When we demo'd our old kitchen we found a major code violation that was concealed and they helped us correct the issue. It cost us extra but looking back I'm happy we worked with an ethically sound contractor who does things correctly and follows the city code. Those things can be huge problems later if you try to cut corners! Overall we had a great experience with Superb Builders and would definitely hire them again. They are very professional and do great work. We ended up with our dream kitchen for less than market average prices in our area!

At the site visit about a week later, Kami was very friendly and we went over the details of the job. He seemed quite busy at the time with a number of commercial projects. I had to remind him to send a quote and then he replied with just a number (which was the lowest of all our bids and half what the highest one wanted), but no details or itemization of costs. We are very detail oriented people so we did not feel this would be the best fit.
