The Paletas had this weird aftertaste I couldn't quite describe (almost like cleaning supplies), and the Mangonada tasted very chemically. I only took one sip before tossing it, which was disappointing because it looked amazing. I watched them make it, so I know it wasn't anything they did wrong, maybe it's just the dyes or ingredients they use. It's a bummer. I've had the same things at other spots nearby, and they've tasted much better. Sadly, I don't think we'll be back, but I really hope they tweak the recipes, because the potential is definitely there!

First, let's talk about the good. Champ Donut has great tasting donuts and a wide assortment of specialty varieties. Some are picture perfect and great for posting on Social Media. I'm a donut purist and mostly stick to glazed, however, I've tried some of the more fancy styles they have here like the Creme Brûlée donut and they're good, but I really just prefer to stick to the classics. Champ Donut also has a variety of smoothies and Boba Teas. I tried the Passionfruit Smoothie and it is the kind made from a powder with milk. It tastes fine, but it's too sweet for my liking. The issues I have with the inconsistencies at Champ Donut are with food handling. I've had two instances where I've had croissant sausage rolls, and they tasted like the dough had absorbed the scent of Fabuloso. I'm thinking the dough is not stored airtight. Another time, I purchased a bottle of milk here and it was sour even though it had not yet expired. I think some attention to food storage and handling would bring Champ up to the five stars I know they are capable of. It's a great find in this area and it's a cute shop that has a wide selection of breakfast fare.

With gratuities allocated to local school charities, an intriguing question was raised: was he the sole operator of the shop, or were the employees paid non-tip wages? While both taco trucks were open by crew all opted for La Cocina De Ada. There is plenty of parking and some picnic tables and chairs so you can eat there if desired, which we did. I ordered 1 birria taco and the pork pupusa (which was the cashiers favorite). The birria taco was nicely fried and the consomé was flavorful albeit a little on the sour side. The pupusa was a decent size, also nicely cooked and well filled with a crunchy cabbage slaw on the side. All in all a solid meal all for under $10. The service was friendly and relatively quick.
