As I approached the display case, an older gentleman, the only other person in the store, left his seat and moved behind the case He then inquired if I would like a sample. Unlike my previous visit, I decided to accept the offer and requested a taste of the Cappuccino Crunch, a gluten-free flavor. The contrast between the very dark chocolate and the lighter cappuccino flavor was awesome, and I knew exactly what I wanted. Although none of the toffee crunch were in the sample, there were plenty in the two scoops I received. With gratuities allocated to local school charities, an intriguing question was raised: was he the sole operator of the shop, or were the employees paid non-tip wages? Leaving a two star review because the doors are always locked and the staff members are hiding in the back.... it's so strange. The first time we went we could see two employees inside, but they wouldn't open the door. There was also two other customers waiting outside and we all ended up leaving confused. The second time we went we had to knock on the door to get their attention and then the young man working said "I guess you can come in, but we are about to close." It was 7:28 and they close at 8pm... the ice cream we got was actually good, but we won't be back for obvious reasons. read more

I tried to take my kids here for an ice cream only to find the place full of about 30 high school kids. There was only one employee on staff. He served about 2 kids in the 10 minutes we waited. A second employee arrived and rather than take orders and help, he stood there. The first employee left since it seemed his shift was over. We left without ever getting to order. Me and my family went yesterday on labor day. My kids were excited to go to get the cookie monster ice cream sandwich. We got there around 7. The young man working there, acted like he was new and didnt know anything about this place. He just stood there and didn't say a word. I asked him if we could get a couple of ice cream sandwiches. He replied with huh?. I repeated myself about 4 or 5 times. I asked do you have cookies and again, i got a "huh". When you walk in the shop, it smells like baked goods, but we didnt see none. We took our daughter and some friends here to get ice cream near our house. The place is filthy. No napkins....large "restroom" paper towel rolls were on the counters instead. Some of the ice cream names were missing. Ice cream smears all over the plexiglass and the ice cream freezer glass. There was no one else there. The young man working should have been cleaning...the place needed it. Two of our kids ordered snow cones and they said they only had regular or large sizes. Our kids and neighbor kids sometimes walk there by themselves, and are told that they only have "large" sized snow cones, even though the menu has small, medium and large sizes listed. It's nice having an ice cream shop nearby, but I'd rather make a drive to go somewhere nicer! Very disappointing. read more

4 GUMMIE BEARS... 4!! 4 gummy bears on my daughters ice cream for $1!! I don't know what every other persons expectations are for gummy bears but this was pretty pathetic. Then to just rattle off the rest of the experience ... sad execution person working there was told flavors and put the wrong flavor in the cup twice, lack luster decor, poor attitude of the person working (this was the worst), and then what tasted like freezer burn on the ice cream. It's not cheap and for that kind of money one would expect it to be good. Do yourself a favor and drive just a bit further to the other ice cream shops around. Pleasantly pleased with this local ice cream shop. They have really unusual and yummy flavors and the staff are great about samples, suggestions and just being patient while you decide what you want. 3 days ago Thank you to the business Big Chill in Roanoke. I went into purchase some ice cream with my wife and son. I have a service dog. When we went in, I was told service dogs are not welcome since it is a small shop. I WILL NOT SUPPORT A BUSINESS THAT DOES NOT SUPPORT DOCUMENTED AND CERTIFIED SERVICE ANIMALS. We were told we could eat outside, which is great, however we couldn't order our food because it was inside to do this. Service dogs are an extension to the disabled person and she was not trouble at all. Not shaking, slobbering, nothing to cause anything to be unsanitary. We also stood by the windows where we were not by the counter. Maybe think about this when you do not allow service animals. People with service dogs are just like having a prosthetic. You would never tell someone they could not bring their prosthetic in with them. Service dogs are not emotional support animals. They have a certification from ADA to support an ailment a person has. There are laws to protect them but we would rather just walk away and not support it. read more

I've visited here multiple times before the pandemic and after and have tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. The reality is the place is filthy, looks like the floors haven't been mopped since they open and just dingy everywhere. If you need to use the bathroom, just hold it because it's even dirtier than the sitting area. I understand cost of goods are more because of the pandemic and I'm ok with that but $9 for a couple of sub par kids scoops and the place is dirty, and the customer service is decent at the very best.
