I plan to elaborate in the upcoming month after I've had more time to process everything that happened. My experience was multifaceted, and even thinking about it brings back feelings of anger and regret that I allowed myself and my child to endure what we did there. I agree with this review mentioning issues in the infant room, that was the area where most of my experience occurred. I personally found the environment and interactions there very concerning. In my view, the assistant manager, Ashly, displayed behavior that I felt was rude and unprofessional. I also have a voicemail message from her that I personally found inappropriate and disturbing in tone. When I raised my concerns, I did not receive an apology or acknowledgment that felt sufficient to me. The caregiver in the infant room struck me as unwelcoming toward my baby and others. I am aware that other parents have witnessed similar behaviors. I regret not removing my baby sooner once I noticed the issues, especially since I later found an excellent daycare only a few miles away that treats children with the respect and care every family deserves. I also noticed that some reviews about the assistant manager and staff appeared to have been removed online, which makes me question whether the reviews currently visible reflect the full range of parent experiences. In my opinion, families considering this center should directly speak with former parents who spent time observing the infant room before making a decision. Nestled away in a corner of Williamsburg sits Walsingham Academy.  Why did this hit my radar?  We…read morewere visiting Williamsburg one week before Easter and they were hosting a free easter egg hunt!   The grounds are beautiful!  It also helped that it was a beautiful day.  The sun was shining down on the grounds.  Spring flowers were blooming, the green grass was inviting and easter eggs galore!  It was a simple event.  When approaching the grounds it was cordoned off with tape separating areas for age groups 0-7 years old.  Each area had plenty of eggs for hunting and one Golden Egg.  We were lucky and got our hands on a golden egg!  The winning basket included sidewalk chalk, candy, bubbles and an Easter coloring book.  Thank you Wilsingham Academy for a nice event and a memorable experience.

I am going to leave out emotion in this review and give that facts from our experience with this…read morecenter. Our 3 year old son started in June and at first everything was going well. A few weeks after he started I noticed one of the teachers he was with was very rude to myself and my husband which had me concerned that she might not be treating the kids nicely. At the same time, my son started hating going to school. He cried every day and begged us not to go. He also started to have a huge aversion to using the bathroom and when he started there he was 90% potty-trained. About a week or two went by and my husband and I came to pick our son up and found him in the middle of the classroom crying hysterically and the teacher was nowhere to be found. She came in from another classroom after a minute or two and we could tell she was very upset. When we questioned her, she said that the kids had clogged up the toilet with toys while my son was going to the bathroom. While she was explaining to us why she was so stressed, a little girl came up to ask her something and she snatched the toy out of her hand and yelled "ahhh" in frustration. I immediately took my son out of the classroom and went straight to the Director. We explained the situation to the Director and thought she handled it well. This was a Friday and on Monday she let us know she looked at the footage and the teacher would leave the kids for periods of times and was not speaking nicely to the kids so she let her go. About 3 weeks ago we started getting notified that we would have to sign an incident report because our son hit or scratched someone (usually because they were fighting over a toy or other typical 3 year old interactions). We moved to the area in May and he did not have any of these behaviors the first several months at The Learning Center or at his previous school so it came as a surprise to us. We talked with the Assistant Director multiple times and asked what language they were using so we could stay consistent. We started to see an increase in incidents when they started sending our son home because of the behavior. He knew that if he could go home if he was physical. I bought a book of positive reinforcement ideas and redirection, went through every page and marked which ones I thought would work best for him, and wrote a page worth of other ideas to help redirect him. We tried to go above and beyond but felt we were getting very little support on their end. In my conversation with the Director we asked what she thought the issue was and she said, "I think there were just a lot of little boys born at the same time and it's hard for the teacher to deal with them. The one boy who started these behaviors is no longer here but the others learned from him. I can't have my staff getting hit or crying in the middle of the room. We need to get them back on track." She also told us that the kids did not act like that when other staff were in the room. I want to make it clear that we DO NOT condone the behaviors my son was exhibiting. We are constantly trying to teach our kids that being kind is the best thing and we never hurt people physically (gentle hands, etc.). I also don't like writing a review like this. It doesn't feel good. There are several staff there who are absolutely wonderful and they don't deserve to be lumped into this poor review. I want other parents who are considering this center, which is very costly, to know our experience so they can make the best decision for their family.
