My husband who passed in April had introduced me to Opera, our first time in NYC. We moved to Williamsburg 8 years ago from Washington, DC and never looked back. We did have our concerns about entertainment since we had taken advantage of the Kennedy Center for so many year. When he was well we had gone to a few of the opera productions at the Kimball Theatre in town. We enjoyed the productions. Last night I attended their season opener a dinner concert held at the Colonial Heritage Country Club. It was grand! After a nice dinner with good table mates the lights were dimed and the unexpected entertainment began. Not really a concert. It was a stream of talent that introduced us all to some of the performers. The voices. The selection of pieces. Some I recognized. All was stimulating and thoroughly enjoyed. When those beautiful voices ring out you find yourself holding your breath trying not disturb what you are hearing. I was grateful to be in that audience welcoming the season. With such a positive experience I felt had to share. Their next production is Die Fledermaus staged at the Crosswalk Auditorium in Norge. It's a large auditorium. Plenty of parking. No walking distance to the theatre. If you aren't familiar with the story you can read about it on line. There is definitely some humor. I'm looking forward to attending the matinee on September 9th. The voices of the talent is electric. Lifting the spirits. We are so fortunate to enjoy the gift these individuals have been blessed with. I look forward to continued delights ahead.

Yesterday I saw Opera in Williamsburg perform Mozart's "The Magic Flute."…read more This is a review of the opera troupe, not specifically Mozart's work or the venue. As one might expect, this nascent troupe is still experiencing growing pains. Casting for TMF was adequate, while the voice of the larger of the Three Ladies (mezzo-soprano Agueda Fernández-Abad, I believe) knocked my socks off. And Pamina (soprano Kearstin Piper Brown) was equally impressive. The normally intimate Kimball Theatre seemed claustrophobic with a sell-out audience. The Kimball, built in the 1930s, was feeling her age, as evidenced by the queues at the ladies' rooms during intermission. And little old ladies (we seemed to be a significant chunk of the demography) frequently do not do long lines well. There were no show-stoppers, however, and I intend to enjoy more OIW productions in the future.

She enjoys the multiple opportunities to take a variety of classes, with her favorites being ballet, modern, and hip-hop. We as a family have made many friends from all over the region. We love all the recitals, parades, and community performances that iDance produces. They frequently perform at the library or for some of the rehabilitation facilities in the area. The communication is terrific. If you have any problems, just stop by the office and ask. If they are not able to address the question immediately it may take a day for them to get the information from the correct person. They use multiple ways to let us know what is going on from Facebook to email messages and most recently text alerts. We also love the ability to sit in on the class twice a year to see how our dancer is progressing. Volunteering for them is easy and fun. We have only run into problems with other parents who refuse to cooperate and demand that they selfishly be accommodated setting aside the safety of all the dancers. We love iDance for it's loving and caring staff and for all the great memories they are helping us to create.

The owners greeted us warmly, they had a beautiful and bountiful hors-d'oeuvres spread. They had dancers of different ages putting on rehearsed dance routines. It was so nice to see. If my knee weren't injured, I'd be signing up immediately!! It's a great, convenient venue, and the dancers looked like they were having a "ball"! ;) Highly recommend this place. Not sure about all the racial generalizations/allegations made by another reviewer who made a ridiculous judgement based on what must have been a 5 min encounter; but these folks are NOT prejudiced and very nice people...and they know their dance moves!!

We just stopped in this establishment to inquire about classes, etc. It was obvious by the look on his face & the rude tone in his voice that he did not want to be bothered with us. He looked at us as if to say, "Who gave you permission to come in here?" There was not a class going on at the time we entered, in fact, there was only one lady (who looked just as surprised to see us in there, too), so we were not disturbing a class or private lesson. Lesson learned, I should have called first, since I have been told that I sound "white" on the phone. Maybe then, he would have been willing to share information about his business.

They don't have a good tracking system and will come back later and tell you that a class has been missed and you are being charged an additional $50. Who scheduled the class? It wasn't me! Or did you again call the student to set up a class. They need a secretary in the office to prevent so many missed calls. This place I would not recommend at all. They got the one star only because I had too.
