Nowadays streetwear trends have shifted, blurring the line between casual fashion and high fashion. It's made its way into high fashion, collaborating with major fashion heavyweights like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Dior, Vetements, etc. to list a few. Kings to me is what pure streetwear is all about at its core. No bots, no asinine reseller mark-ups, no insane pricetags, no bullshit. Just tried and true streetwear styles from iconic streetwear brands that have withstood the test of time. I'm thankful Kings and others like it still exist (Proper, BAIT, Bowls LA and Union are both kind of). I say kind of because Bowls opens whenever they want and Union definitely has a certain audience in mind with the brands they carry. Anyway, maybe I'm looking back at the history of streetwear with rose-tinted glasses, but there's no denying that the fact that a place like Kings can still thrive despite the fact that a lot of boutiques I used to frequent have either shifted to online exclusively or just shuttered their doors permanently is respectable. The fact that you can still walk into a place like this and get some sick drip without playing bullshit games and waiting for drops or buying bots to cop shit is something I truly appreciate. The staff is cool as always and if anything, their selection has improved over the years and they've definitely stepped up (heh) their shoe game as well. Anyway, my very long drawn out point is that Kings is still king when it comes to finding streetwear locally with an excellent selection. They carry all the brands; new and old. It's like Costco. However, during my…read moremost recent visit today, I witnessed an interaction between a manager/supervisor and an employee that I found very unprofessional and uncomfortable. While I understand that workplace issues need to be addressed, the employee was repeatedly spoken to in a degrading manner and was ultimately told to "go over there and do your thing." This interaction took place openly in front of coworkers and customers, making it difficult not to hear. In my opinion, this type of feedback should be handled privately and respectfully. Employees deserve to be corrected without being embarrassed or humiliated in front of others. I hope management will take this feedback into consideration, as the interaction significantly affected my otherwise positive impression of the store.

Sales: I learned that 40% off is the threshold for discounts, but they are stackable off markdown prices on older stock, which typically creates the perimeter of the newer shoes and clothing. The shoe selection is impressive really. Stacked very high and all styles are represented with a broad variety of sub-styles and colors. Old Chucks v. New Chucks: Older shoes are canvas in and out, whereas the current version is lined with a padded synthetic material and padded insole. Older shoes you may recall aren't padded at all. My initial goal was to buy red hightop Chucks, but then Jesse pointed out the recent 70s line, modeled after the older styles (e.g. aforementioned canvas in and out, but enhanced with a padded insole). The cost ratio for newer style/70s is $65/95 respectively, before sales. Jesse found a red 70s pair that was sale eligible in the back, and I noticed the red hue was deeper and more saturated than the newer ones I originally intended to buy. So, ultimately, I left with two pairs, a closeout color called Malden in deep Olive, for $35, and the 70s in red for $57. Not a bad haul. Update the wardrobe and shoes periodically, just don't pay too much. Pro tip: Go early the first day of the Labor Day weekend for best selection.

When the original clerk said the best she could do was give me store credit, that's when we proceeded to look for something else. I couldn't believe the service received this visit as this was NOT what not the service I received on my first visit. The exchange/return policy is small at the register which I originally didn't notice. Horrible customer service! I will not be shopping at this location again.
